Overall we enjoyed our stay. However, with the temperatures being around 29c we found that the ceiling fan was not enough to keep the room cool. We tried sleeping with the balcony doors open but the traffic noise kept us awake as well. We were given another room which was a little better. Bathroom & Kitchen areas need refurbishing, our bathroom was very dirty in places. If you want hot food in the evenings then book the A la Carte restaurant. Restaurant & bar staff were very friendly and helpful. A good location, with 2 small supermarkets down the road but Funchal centre was too far to walk both ways.

The hotel grounds, pool etc are excellent along with all the staff, always smiling, happy and helpful.
The food was good apart from the Italian night which didn't appear to have a lot of Italian food.
The rooms are clean and spacious but are in need of an update along with the bathrooms imo.
Complimentary shampoo/conditioner would be nice along with bottled water.
Not enough electrical sockets.
Overall a nice hotel and would certainly stay again ☺️

Nice hotel with decent facilities, but the wi-fi in my room was awful - couldn't work or make calls using it at all (though it was better in the public areas). Also I found the breakfast buffet rather disappointing, with very little to mark it as Madeiran.

This place had a \"nursing home\" feel to it. In fact my wife joked she was going to \"check me in\". I didn't know but apparently Madeira Island has always been an old people place. This was also much different because I thought it was a small boutique place, it is a HUGE place, a corporate place with two hotels joined in the middle

Though located right in the city due to its lovely set up it is really quiet and you almost have the feeling to be in a botanic garden dotted with swimming pools on different levels. The room was homely and clean and even had a kitchen. The breakfast was included and amazingly good. The staff were super friendly and fun.

The gardens were excellent and well kept. Staff were friendly and helpful. We appreciated the low-rise nature of the hotel - we were on the ground floor, but the highest was only 6 floors and fairly unobtrusive.

We were not informed beforehand that there was a charge of €6.50 per day for car parking!

Fantastic stay for 4 nights in Madeira. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Breakfast is amazing! Room was large, clean and had everything so needed. The garden around the pool is gorgeous.

The room allocated to us was just as I asked for and made our stay all the better. Good swimming pools including inside pool and for us the benefit of a ping pong table to use when it rained (a lot!).
More a functional hotel rather than top quality but we would use again.

Good position, pools and gardens. The Village and the Miranar are interconnecting hotels which is rather confusing for the first couple of days. Breakfast room needs to be larger. However it was a good stay.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. I was a little taken aback when I had to ask where to park at check-in, and she said anywhere. Then proceeded to ask me if I wanted a parking pass. What? Strange, but ok. Also no comment on the fact that our room was super-small for four people. Definitely more of an Expedia issue, which I need to address with customer service... however, the end result was a good one. When we questioned the front desk if we were in the right room, having two children who had to sleep in a pullout loveseat, they graciously offered to move us as soon as possible, at no charge, to a bigger room. That turned out to be a fantastic junior suite with a partial view of the ocean. Corner room, very quiet. We couldn’t get it until two days into a four-day stay, but we’ll take it. Breakfast was fine. Too many choices, nothing too spectacular, but lots to choose from, especially if you’re into bread and sweets for breakfast. Whoa. Flavored waters were lovely. Overpriced bar as per usual for a fancy hotel, but just gorgeous views everywhere you looked, even in the lobby. Hot tub was lukewarm, which disappointed my family. Pool gorgeous but unfortunately it was too cold to swim. Overall, definitely recommend!

Could be better in other parts of the hotel.

We were put into a timeshare studio unit which was rather dated and dark as the sun never reached the patio. This may have been because I changed the original booking so it may have become a late booking. The dining facilities were crowded food reasonable. I would be careful about booking a \"classic \" studio \" again. however I am normally very happy with rooms booked through Hotels.com

Great location only 10/15 walk into Funchal. Loved the choice of pools...used the indoor pool as it was chilly. Breakfast was full of choice...but no information about what time breakfast was. My room was a good size & comfortable bed. Only problem was due to the location on a corridor that led to restaurants, spa & pool there was noise from people walking, talking & kids running. Also charged me 5euro to use an iron for an hour & then no one came to get it so had it all time I was there?? Not very helpful at the reception when I asked for a travel adaptor...felt like I was an inconvenience...they didn’t have one any way.

Freezing pool, dated small junior suite. Please don't waste your money. Luckily we only stayed two nights. Wedding party under our suite till 3am the first night.....it was horrendous but we made the most of our stay with the previous 14 nights so all is good...

The property is very close to Funchal marina and town centre so ideal for visitors. The staff are very helpful which is very important for visitors who are not familiar with the area. I would definitely recommend the hotel to all my family and friends.

Pleasant atmosphere, older more classic style of decor, not impersonal modern. Winter Gardens a comfortable area to sit in for a drink and to listen to any entertainment. Beautiful well tended gardens. The restaurant in the Miramar is great for a special fine dining treat. We were on a b&b package so tended to eat out or do simple self catering as the rooms have a small kitchenette. Lots of restaurants in easy walking distance.

There is nothing to dislike about this hotel. it is set in beautiful tranquil tropical gardens which are absolutely stunning. Room sizes are good. A little chaotic at breakfast on occasions, but quite manageable.

if I could change one thing, that would be to have the indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam and sauna based on one area.

Third stay at this hotel. Rooms are clean and spacious and the garden areas very pleasant. Two clean outdoor pools with plenty of sunbeds. Good location with about 15-20 min walk into Funchal centre. Steep slope to entrance which may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

Great location only 1 km from centre and 1 km to big shopping centre called forum. Bus stops outside the hotel no1,2,4 takes you to city centre and only €2 best to get week ticket as much cheaper.
Hotel marvellous with a few swimming pools on different levels. Gym sauna hot tub and steam room all free. Rooms very tidy and look great. Kitchenette in studio has 2 ring hob and a fridge and a couple of utensils.
Overall I hope we can get back to here next year.

Good size rooms and garden view was great. Close to various pools. Staff were very friendly and helpful. 15 minute walk from the centre of Funchal. With several nice bars/restaurants only 5 minute walk away. Only constructive criticism I have is that the bathroom was a bit tired.

Nice resort for a decent price!

We only stayed here for one night, but we had a very nice stay. Our room was clean and spacious and had a lovely view over the pool and garden. The staff were very friendly, and went above and beyond when the airline lost my husbands luggage and had to deliver it to the front desk of the hotel. We enjoyed a drink beside the pool, but found the pool to be a bit too cold to go swimming in. The hotel was near an authentic Portugese bakery, where we had a delicious breakfast. It is also walking distance from the heart of Funchal and many good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again!

We travelled independently ( via Expedia) and booked a studio room with breakfast. Plenty of choice at the buffet breakfast .Go early for the fullest selection although staff work fast to regularly top up . Prices for soft drinks, teas and coffees were reasonable. Didn't feel the same about their evening restaurant prices and we only ate in once . Good room size and big comfortable beds. Sadly some room furniture looked knocked about. The large bathroom was essentially clean but tired looking.The bottom of the shower /bath was yellow and needed replacing. The whole place was refurbished some years back, but its 'time up ' for some rooms. Mentioned this to reception who said they regretted to hear it, but that many guests had said the same . The hotel is part of a large Madeiran family owned group. . Madeira is a wonderful place and our Pestana Village stay seemed reasonably priced.

A beautiful garden oasis

The property has one of Funchal’s best gardens; excellent location between central Funchal and the Lido (the taxi to the centre was approx €5,00 but the bus stop is right there); great breakfast buffet; service was great and I appreciated the efforts of the housekeeping staff; facilities are shared with the Pestana Miramar which gave more dinner and pool options; March is warm but the pretty outdoor pools are not used much as they aren’t heated - something manage may want to consider for the future. There is a heated indoor pool at the Miramar which allowed us to swim daily.

The garden is truly pretty. For me a highlight was the huge Chilean Monkey Puzzle tree near the reception.

Does What It Says On The Tin

Chose this hotel for the garden setting and freedom of aparthotel concept.
Worked perfectly for us. Its a laid back atmosphere and the greenery is restful yet the hotel has all the city centre convenience. Staff all frendly and helpful and made my birthday feel special too. The only aspect of the hotel which needs addressing is that the
general bedrooms are looking a bit tired compared with the quality of the public spaces and the owner accommodation. That said, everywhere is well kept.

Hotel within a garden in Funchal

We were in the sister hotel next door. The room was smaller than the one we stayed in before in the main hotel. Found this bed room rather tired looking & could have been cleaner ie beds moved etc to clean under found all sorts under it when looking for a dropt item. The bathroom was again clean but tired ie the shower curtain.
The staff were very pleasant & helpful. The jacuzzi in the main part was not working for the full 11 days we were there. The gardens are well kept and beautiful. Breakfast was the usual buffet, catering for all nationalities.
Be aware that this area is very hilly and even though the local bus service is good you still end up with aching legs!!! It’s in a great position if you like walking in both directions ie prom or city. There are small supermarkets in the area, prices similar to here in the U.K.

Hotel in good location but needs updating

Hotel in excellent location. Rooms comfortable but require updating. Our room had a stained bath and bathroom floor had red paint that had been stained in. Ceilings in bedroom very stained. TV very old and air con was a bit hit and miss. Breakfast time is manic requires organisation- lots of children running around. The toaster at breakfast needs updating and more than one is needed. The age limit restriction in the spa areas are not adhered to. Young children playing in the sauna/steam room and in the spa bath - spoils the experience for adults. The cocktail bar is poor and expensive. Our experience was that we was served tasteless cocktails and staff were smoking in the room adjacent to the bar. Lunch time food limited and poor. I would stay here again purely for the location as the hotel is close to the town. The grounds are also well kept.

Enjoyed it here as it was not too big with friendly and helpful staff. My only complaint was that I thought tea, coffee, sugar and milk should have been provided daily in the studio room as there was a small kitchen area. Happy to make drinks myself but not a lot to ask for the packets to be provided. Otherwise no complaints at all.

I was upgraded to superior, which meant that I was on the third floor with a view - albeit of the city (and not the sought after sea view). My room was spacious, clean and well appointed, although a spare plug socket near the bed would have been useful, and it was mighty cold with no heater - apparently these are supplied when it gets 'even colder' - I slept with two duvets, two blankets and lots of layers of clothing. The breakfast and dinner buffets (the latter was somewhat pricy) were really super, with a good range of choice, including gluten-free and other allergy-friendly. The staff were also very friendly and remembered my room number from day two. The outdoor pools are unheated so it was too cold to go in the water, but it was still pleasant to sit by them. The location is good - 20 minutes (1 mile) (steepish) walk into town. The grounds are lovely and quite tropical, and the office in charge of organising walks and day trips was efficient and friendly. I would stay here again.

Good hotel - easy walking to Funchal old town

Staff, accommodation, breakfast and facilities were all very good. The hotel itself is within easy walking distance of Funchal old town and, closer, there are a number of excellent restaurants. We hired a car from the airport and it is extremely useful to be able to park on site.

Good location 15 mins walking from town centre

Very good value hotel with pretty gardens and swimming pools.
We had a classic studio with kitchenette which was great for two adults.
Room did not have air-con and was hot over night. Ceiling fan helped to make sleeping
possible. Could walk to town in 15-20 mins and sitting areas inside hotel were
comfortable and welcoming. There was a balcony with tables and chairs for enjoying the
lovely Madeira weather in privacy with a glass of wine which was great.
Great places to eat at
Leeno's restaurant turn right outside hotel, walk 1/2 mile, great food and value, need to book.
A Cuba bar/restaurant close to Funchal Cathedral, good food and AMAZING interior in historic
building.

The hotel is set in pleasant gardens but there is not much opportunity to sit in the shade, the room was OK but set at the back of the hotel on the ground floor so did not get any sunlight onto the balcony (I couldn't use the balcony as a result) and the bathroom was for someone with a disability and not really comfortable for me. I had little interaction with the staff apart from a very clipped woman who recorded that you had been in for breakfast and two receptionists, one of whom was very helpful and the other less so. I was coerced to attend another hotel only to find it was a sales pitch for the hotel club which was a good offer but not one that I could afford to take up and caused embarrassment when I was made to justify why I couldn't afford it. Pestana are the largest chain on the Island and offer this 'Time of your Life' experience but I came away slightly disappointed.

Good Hotel

Good hotel for the money, located 20 minutes walk from central Funchal and handy for local bus. Some building work nearby but not troubling. Staff friendly and accommodating. All facilities in good order, gardens well stocked and maintained. Breakfast buffet had a good selection, did not eat in hotel restaurant but used local ones which were good value and excellent choice.
Would return.
There is a lot of time share sales at the accommodation and generally out and about- be on your guard if you don't want hassle, the hotel team leave you alone once they are aware you are not interested.

A peaceful garden retreat

Our holiday started the minute we entered the hotel on checking in we were greeted by the staff with a complementary drink, great start. Joulio the bellboy showed us to our room which had a splendid view over Funchal.
The reception staff were very helpful when my wife had her mobile phone stolen , they phoned the number on several occasions to no avail, since learnt the £80 on it had been spent phoning Portugal.
Apart from that it was a great holiday.

Very pleasant stay here. Beautiful gardens and pleasant pool area. Very good breakfast with plenty to choose from. Clean everywhere. Comfortable room. A few communication issues. On our first night there was a fire alarm and guests gathered outside. After 45minutes no member of staff had appeared. Eventually another guest told us she had asked somebody and they had told her it was a false alarm. The manager sent round a letter of apology and some cakes - 2 days later! One night it was advertised that a band would be playing in the bar. There was none and when we asked we were told they were not coming as they were ill. Fair enough but the poster was still up with no note of a cancellation. Also one member of staff was very unhelpful when a tour we were waiting for didn't arrive. Eventually she reluctantly came to our aid after some persuasion. This was a pity as all the other staff were charming and overall we had a good experience and the hotel was good value.

Enjoyable stay

Lovely pool and gardens. Room comfy and kitchenette useful. Some heating would have been good in the lobby and bedroom as weather not too hot when we visited w/c 25/02/17. Staff mostly very friendly and helpful.

Perfect location

A lovely hotel - nicely located within walking distance of the marina and lido. It was lovely to have an indoor pool too. The room was lovely - I cannot fault it, except two minor things - I would add that a small frying pan in the kitchenette and offer a firmer pillow.
However, the hotel was kept clean and everyone I met was friendly. Lovely ambience throughout my stay - I would definitely stay here again and I will use their chain of hotels again.

Nice hotel with beautiful grounds

We were lucky to get a room that was much bigger than others on the floor, with balcony overlooking one pool and windows to the other. Kitchenette made it very practical, especially if you like to make your own breakfast and eat it on your balcony. Hotel receptionist sold us one week bus passes that got us anywhere in the city limits - well worth it.

Comfortable stay in pleasant hotel.

Our room was good and it had a patio with a little garden. There was also a fridge, small hob kettle and microwave if we had wanted to use them. The cocktails were extremely nice at the end of a warm day's sightseeing. There was a wide range of food for breakfast and pancakes and eggs made to order. All in all a pleasant stay.

Had a lovely time. Our only small negative comment is the kitchenette facilities. You couldn't really use it for a meal, more just for a light snack but as eating out was very reasonable this wasn't a problem.

Nice hotel close to the Funchal centre

We stayed there for 10 nights and overall enjoyed the stay - mainly the rich buffet breakfast, the nice swimming pool area and convenient location of the hotel close to the city centre. On the other hand we did not like the WiFi being only available in the hotel lobby and being too slow to be actually usable. Also we had a room on the ground floor close to the lobby so it was a little bit noisy in the morning when the staff began preparing the breakfast and in the evening when there were music performances taking place in the lobby. Overall we liked this hotel and we would recommend it (if you don't need the WiFi too much).

We booked this hotel because of room size specified and the fact it had cooking facilities and a fridge, for myself, husband and 19 year old daughter. On arrival, all being a day late as flight could not land in Madeira due to high winds so had to land in Porto Santo and catch boat following day (we did contact hotel and advice them of this matter), we were given a musty smelling room with a single bed set up at the bottom of two twin beds pushed together. There was very little space to move around, no where for cases to go, we spent 9 days stepping over cases! The fridge and air conditioning did not work! With three adults in this space it was highly uncomfortable and with the fridge not working we couldn't buy any food to cook.
When we approached reception and advised them we had booked a superior room we were told all their rooms were superior and that they were fully booked. The air conditioning and fridge only got fixed on our second last day.

Nice hotel, excellent location

We chose this hotel because of its good value and location - its close to Funchal centre and also close to the bars and restaurants of the hotel district. There is also a bus stop outside the hotel which goes to many parts of the island. The hotel was quiet at night with comfortable beds - we slept well.

Great location

We loved the location of this hotel in relation to Funchal town centre and nearby restaurants. Everything was within walking distance. 30 minutes walk to the centre of town, and many restaurants within 3-20 minutes walk. Bus stops were located right in front of the hotel.
The hotel is a quiet oasis set in beautiful gardens, lovely pool area. Everything was very clean, and staff were pleasant and helpful. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the pool, parts of Funchal and the mountains. Lovely to wake up to that on a sunny morning. The room was fine, very clean, and large. We enjoyed having the kitchenette, although we didn't have a microwave. Beds were very comfortable(2twins pushed together to make a large king) pillows were good and plentiful. Pool towels were provided.
A full breakfast buffet was included, but after ten days we tired of the same thing everyday. Eggs were served either fried or scrambled, same fruit everyday. Nice selection of breads, and there was yogurt, cheese, luncheon meats, cereal, pancakes.
The hotel is located up a bit of a steep hill from the road so anyone with mobility issues might have a hard time.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Relaxing and peaceful hotel.

Fabulous breakfasts with a large range of items and choices (hot and cold) with efficient table service. Good sunbeds and pool options (3 to choose from). Hotel puts on entertainment most evenings. Hotel is centrally located to either Western Funchal (beach promenade walk) or Eastern (old town)/Central Funchal. Wifi only available in lobby and difficult to connect. Jacuzzi didn't work, despite reporting to reception. Only a few of the bars/restaurants open in the winter months, which limits your choices if you decide to eat in.

Lovely hotel, good location

Lovely hotel with nice gardens. Good size quiet comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the sea and palm trees. We booked a superior room which meant we were on 3rd floor, hence the view. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Hotel is in a good location with plenty of eateries a short walk away. Buses are fairly reliable. Funchal is a very pleasant city to walk around, feels more like a market town. Botanical Gardens (bus ride away) and Monte are well worth a visit.

We stayed here first week in February. Hotel was nicely set out. Reception and staff were extremely helpful. It was my birthday whilst I was there at breakfast I was given a nice card and we all had glass of champagne which was unexpected but a nice touch. Breakfast was a hot buffet with great choice gave us a good start to the day. Everywhere was clean and tidy the gardens even in February were colourful. Would stay there again. Only downside no wifi in rooms only in lobby. Quite a walk into town but I think frequent buses from opposite the hotel - we had a car so didn't use. Also had to pay to park the car in the hotel grounds which is annoying but worked out about £3.00 a night. Hotel was joined to sister hotel Miramar next door so could just walk through use their indoor pool - we didn't us sun shone most of the time!

The Negative - no wi fi in room and very poor wi fi in public areas, in this day and age this poor customer service. Bed ok, but pillows not very 'comfy'. Poor selection of beers etc in bar - choice of 1 beer ! (why only one kind of beer). Breakfast ok, but could be better.
The Positive - The hotel & staff etc very good. Good location. Good value and the rooms etc were comfortable and clean. I would return to this hotel.

Christmas in the sun

We stayed at Pestana Village hotel for Christmas. Our first visit to Madeira and we were very happy with our choice. The hotel facilities were good and the only reason we have not marked it top marks overall is that the lounge lobby area was a bit soulless and a bit chilly on an evening. The hotel did put on entertainment on the evenings we were there but it seemed to be little appreciated, not the hotel's fault. It was about a 30 minute pleasant walk to the Funchal old town which was fine for us, but buses were also frequent. The Christmas market festivities were great and there was a lovely atmosphere overall. We were lucky with the weather which was warm and sunny so great for our levada walking trips. All in all a great Christmas break.
