Really enjoyed the hotel. Very close to many amenities and bus services.Room was very comfy, great views from balcony. Staff always upbeat. Do need to say that the Mimosa hotel is up a steep hill but you can get the use of a buggy. Breakfast was varied and very tasty. Great areas to relax iinsidecthe hotel and around the pool. Many evenings had entertainment around the pool area. If wanting to come to Madeira you need to know that there are many hills. Would recommend this hotel and would return. Cheers 😁😁

I had a lovely time. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Cleaning staff are very friendly and helpful. My only criticism is that the outdoor pool needs to be heated as it is very cold.

Stayed for two nights. Chose this hotel as close to the start line of the Funchal Marathon. The main part of the town is a good 40 minute walk which is hilly in places. Be warned, if you're not in a car you have quite a steep walk to get to the hotel. You go down two lots of stairs to get to the buffet restaurant. Better signage is required as it is not clear from a distance where the restaurant is. You see the sign when you're on top of it. The restaurant itself was very chaotic lots of people getting in each other way. Though staggered evening meal slots still too many in there. Choice of food was quite good and varied however wasn't hot. Breakfast starts at 7.30 am though judging how many were already there when I arrived just after 7.30 am they probably allow guests in before then. I found one table free with no cutley so ended up setting my own table. There needs to be clear signs on where to obtain hot water for making tea and where the milk is located. The milk should be near both machines which are at both ends of the restaurant. When I found the milk I was disappointed that it did not taste fresh. Did not raise with the staff in the restaurant as lack of English understood. It was good that fresh fruit was available bananas, apples, melon and pineapple. Would of been nice to have a bowl of berries.
The hotel room is part studio with fridge, microwave and cooker. It would of been helpful to have glasses which were not for wine and a tea towel would also useful.

The breakfast buffet was not worth the price. There are much better cafes around the corner that have better food for the same price. Checking in was a nightmare. They would not let me in the gate, so I had to park in the street, run up the hill to reception, where they told me that parking was full and directed me to a parking garage several blocks away and then carry my luggage up the hill to check in. There are several Dorisol Hotels in the same area, so it was very unclear which one was Mimosa. Clmbing the hill to Mimosa every day got exhausting, by the end of my trip I dreaded walking up that hill, even for a fit person. I requested to get a parking reservation, but when I asked the next morning, they said parking was already full so I gave up on trying to park on site, besides the parking garage was actually cheaper. However, at the end of my stay they tried to charge me for my parking reservation. The rooms are outdated. The beds and pillows are so uncomfortable. There was hair in my bathroom from someone else. The view from the balcony was nice, although there is not much privacy and can see your neighbors. There is no A/C or heat so it did very warm even with the balcony door open at night. Outside noise and noise from neighbors is very easily heard inside. The pool was nice and the bar was decent. They did have nightly dance shows. Overall, I would not recommend.

Check in member of staff was rude, would not check us in without passports which we didn't have as we were only staying 1 night for a wedding down the road, how do the locals check in? got in around 3am to find a massive cockroach in the room. beds were comfy and shower was nice

Good hotel for families - 2 outside pools & 1 inside, plenty of loungers/chairs to sit. Hotel communal areas rather dated but clean. Sizeable rooms with lovely balcony overlooking pool & sea views. A steep slope up to the hotel itself, but good exercise! Decent location, walking distance to seafront & plenty of shops/restaurants around. Overall a very pleasing stay!

I can ignore the steep road to reach the place because it’s the feature in Funchal, even for other hotels. But Most of services written on the website are not available. WiFi can only be accessed at public area, not in room. The website stated refrigerator and microwave available, however, they are not provided. The staffs working at the reception didn’t tell details about their service like massage. The last thing is the indoor swimming pool is extremely dirty, I hardly could see inside of the pool. Except these, the breakfast is good, the scenery from room is beautiful, you definitely can relax in such a place even there are many annoying things.

Hotel room was clean, adequate for our needs and had a small balcony. Bed was very uncomfortable though. Facilities at the hotel were good. Hotel was on a very steep hill, so not so good if you're unfit. We hired a car for 3 days and was able to park in the Hotel underground car park, however I would imagine there wouldn't be enough spaces in peak season.

Nice hotel close to Lido

Good location and pleasantly surprised re breakfast choice.
Room was okay and clean. I’ve stayed in better but more expensive hotels.
Staff were lovely. Didn’t make use of indoor pool or jacuzzi but looked amazing. Gym was so so with mainly weights and abs no cardio machines.
Location was ideal for walk to town or rocky beach.

it's all true. hotel has 3* and it's quite dated. but the price is fair.
breakfast is ok, quality of food is 3/5.
room size was ok and the view over the pool and sea superb. inside pool was warm and we enjoyed it.
location is ok, I didn't mind the hill everyone keeps talking about.

Once you have managed to walk up the steep hill to this hotel you are rewarded with outstanding views over Funchal. The decor could be spruced up a bit, but if you want a fancier hotel then go to a more expensive one with a lesser view.
The food was good and the staff, especially at reception, are great. Nothing is too much trouble, and always friendly and very helpful.
Location is excellent. Restaurants, shops and buses are all close by.

Just stayed there for two weeks. The buffet breakfast in the morning was great. The fried eggs and bacon were a little oily but was good. Lots of fresh fruit, breads, cheeses. The hotel had two pools. The outdoor pool was always clean with plenty of seating. The indoor pool looked a little dated but the water was very warm. Parking is limited and had a few days where I had to find parking on the street. Great view of the ocean. There was entertainment nightly. The reception staff was phenomenal. Great people. The rooms were cleaned daily but I found the floors were never fully clean. Didn't have a chance to eat at their restaurants because there are so many different types within walking distance. They will prepare a picnic meal for you. Just order one from reception. It was awesome.
I will definitely stay there again. Thank you Dorisol Mimosa staff. See you again.

The hotel was clean and breakfast was good. Service at the bar was very poor, they never had any change in the till as they seemed to only cater for all-inclusive, and bar staff tended to ignore you. Room was clean but stifling hot as there was a large hot water pipe in the wardrobes that acted like central heating and as there is no air conditioning I would hate to stay in the summer. Overall very good value for money though, but probably would not return.

Our third stay here.

The hotel keeps improving - which is nice. Accommodation is plain but cleanliness and comfort are what interest us most. This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel and our only complaint would be that you experience quite a lot of traffic noise. However, for the price paid we cannot complain. Good facilities and a great location.

Budget offering in truest sense

The Mimosa has all the facilities on paper and is conveniently situated for a vacation near to Funchal.
The staff are mostly very courteous and helpful BUT beware the facilities are very rudimentary and furnishings, decor etc. are seriously outdated and the whole place is years overdue for investment and refurbishment. But everything is clean to their credit.
For example, the lounge furniture is marked, scarred, damaged. The decor is depressingly bland painted walls and ceilings. In the bedroom, the bed linen is very worn with thin towels with holes! The furniture is very well-used, beds hard and old and pillows - ugh! You are promised a kitchenette - again absolute minimum - no kettle just a two-plate stove with just enough cutlery and crockery.
The views are appealing (though partial ocean in my case) BUT the only ventilation is via a hinged patio door. If it storms you have no option other than to close the door and, even then, thew ingress of rainwater could not be stopped.
The breakfast is extremely basic - buffet in the narrowest sense as choice is very limited and the hot food again depressingly bland and pre-cooked.
Lastly, BE VERY AWARE that the access to the hotel is up a very steep long hill, being the third building of this Dorisol Group on this site and highest up the slope! Not for the frail or faint-hearted and, to reach the main restaurant / shopping street, another steep climb.
If you truly want budget accommodation and facilities this maybe for you.

Good hotel, indoor pool was a bonus as the weather was not warm enough for us to try the outdoor pool but it was very pleasant sitting around it on the sun beds, meal at the pool side cafe was good. Bedroom on the 9th floor gave us a good view to the sea and mountains and over the town, beds comfortable, kitchenette adequate. Small balcony but enough for table and 2 chairs, the table was old and plastic was deteriorating but was stable. Access is via a steep hill so you need to be reasonably fit.

It is a cheap and cheerful hotel. location is good but quite a trek downhill towards the town itself, approx 20mins. We liked to stay close by and eat at nearby restaurants, some good choices.
facilities good, pool area and bar was nice. had indoor pool for rainy days. wanted to use the spa but no infomration on how to book etc.
rooms themself were dated. beds rock hard. and overall quite a noisy area. they were clean enough apart from the bathroom. but for the price we paid £24 a night not much to complain about.

Horrible hotel, no Air Conditioner and when we spoke to hotel staff of cockroach's they said that is a problem with a lot of the hotels. Really have you heard of pest control. Don't stay here unless you want unexpected guests.

Good value for money basic clean hotel

Tired and dated rooms but clean and good enough for a couple of nights stay or anyone on a budget for a cheap holiday. No aircon. Small but powerful showet head ovet bath. Terrific side view of sea from 9th floor. Lifts v. small. Up a hill. Close to lido nightlife area. Taxi or bus into town. Reasonable facilities. Good breakfast and hotel very good value for price paid.

Friendly hotel in great location. Needs updating.

The Mimosa provides value for money. Because of its location, views, terrace, and helpfulness of staff, we are prepared to accept its weaknesses - the breakfast and out-dated decor etc. Many people wouldn't, but we keep returning. It is what it is: a budget hotel, providing a great base for exploring the whole of Madeira.

Note: It is more accessible than some people seem to realise (see bus details, below).

When Your expectation is to get the normal conditions for reasonable price You'll have it all at Mimosa. The facilities are a little bit tired, but on function. The breakfast is not varied, but enough to stay fit untill the lunch. The game room is very poor, but who needs this room on Madeira?
In your room You will have enough equipment to cook or drink tea or coffee.

We thought we had booked at Dorisol Mimosa but when we arrived we were directed down the hill to Burganvilia. Obviously the original hotel on the site. A bit old fashioned and in need of some renovation. We were lucky to get one of the front rooms so faced the sea. The room was clean and the staff very friendly. Well worth booking in for the breakfast.

Unforgettable week ! love it !

I stayed there with my mom and had a spectacular experience . The room was on 11 floor with a ocean view ,we had balcony and kitchen . We used the pool and danced in the lobby ,we went to restaurants next door and to forum shopping center. I will never forget this week and will be back only to this hotel .you can't beat that service and price and I live in los angeles now. My mom lives in madeira and this was such a cool vacation for both of us because of this charming hotel and excellent location! Thank you to all the staff and management there !

Good choice for short break.

Excellent budget hotel. We were on a 3 night short break. First time in Madeira. Room a little tired but enjoyed a nice balcony & small kitchen. Good breakfast choice. Indoor & outdoor pools are good addition. Hotel is a top of very steep but short hill. Worth the effort !!!.

Had a lovely stay in this hotel, clean, comfortable room, with small kitchenette. Not the height of luxury, but a great option for people on a lower budget. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also good with plenty of choice and hot options every morning. Also in a very good location- 20 minutes walk into central Funchal though there is a regular courtesy bus, and just 5 minutes from the sea, supermarkets and lots of eating options. Overall very happy.

Functional Hotel, fit for purpose, good location

Convenient position for exploring Fuchal, must be fit enough to walk up a fairly steep hill, the walk into Funchal takes 30 minutes, some of it downhill, but of course on the way back some is uphill although one can catch the local buses running every 10 minutes or so.

The rooms are basic but functional with a small kitchenette if you wish to do basic cooking, overall I would say although not top notch the rooms are clean and serve as a good base for exploring Madiera and Funchal in particular, the breakfasts are O.K but not the best Iv'e had, pool area is very good.

Hotel entertainment is poor, we found that the reception staff were not that engaging, giving information only when pressed, we found information from the local shop keeper in the Spar store at the bottom of the hill on the left who spoke excellent english and was very helpful with bus tickets and information on various tours

A hotel in just the right spot

Moments walk to restaurants and bars, bus stops and shops. A little further to the coastline and about half an hour into Funchal itself.
The only draw-back was a room where smokers had stayed so the furnishings smelt of smoke somewhat. Did ask for non-smoking but this seems to mean they just remove the ashtray from the room.

Lovely hotel with great facilities

I am very glad that booked this hotel thanks to all good reviews! The room with a balcony had everything to provide a comfortable stay. Do pay for an ocean view vroom as it doesn't only give a great view but also keeps you away from the noise of the road behind the hotel. The breakfast was great and well worth the money paid! There was a good choice of breads, cereals, fruits, hot and cold drinks, some cheese and meats, and also hot cooked eggs, sausages, baked beans. Looking for a meal out will cost you much more time and money in the area in the morning.
It was great to discover that the hotel has a sun deck on the 11th floor with glorious views of Funchal, and also a lovely spa with an indoor pool ( in addition to the outdoor one), jacuzzi, sauna and gym. One can also book a massage for additional cost. There is a curtacy bas to Funchal every hour which was great! Amazingly, they also organise an entertainment almost every evening.
Wifi is provided downstairs in a lovely resting area.
All in all a very pleasant stay.

Good hotel in the Lido area.

The hotel gave us what we needed in the form of room configuration and location. While not in central Funchal the Lido area has many facilities like bars, restaurants, banks, gift shops, souvenir shops, car rental and tour companies. Furthermore the hotel provides an hourly courtesy bus service to the harbour area which is a short walk to old Funchal.

The breakfast is not the best; eggs and beans are not warm, at 8.00.
The quality of the buffet restaurant Europa, was not good at the price.
However, the Gala dinner for Christmas was amazing!

Greit hotell når formålet er vandringer på Madeira- grei pris og beliggenhet. Gode muligheter for bading og soling.
Bakken opp til hotellet var slitsom når en har problemer med hjerte pg pust.
