Well located along main avenue, about a kilometer from the Cathedral and main downtown area. Good breakfast, staff helpful. 2 negatives-entrance down a long flight of steps from the street and the supposedly heated indoor pool was not heated.

I traveled with a male friend and, being that I am a woman and we are but friends, so at reception we requested separate (already paid for separate rooms) but adjoining rooms. We arrived early in the morning, stored our luggage, and then returned around 5 pm, whereupon we were assigned Rooms 360 and 362 which we were told were next to each other. Instead, there was both a large meeting room and a large library space between them. I was in 362, which unlike my friend's room had no sofa, no desk with a chair for writing, no nook for coffee pot, and was considerably farther from elevators. We paid the same amount for our stay. Also, unlike my friend's room, I was not supplied with face cloths and had to request them. We were exhausted after a long trip from the US and sightseeing and I didn't have the energy to protest the inferior room and possibly move.

People should be aware also that, while the distance to the historic downtown is a 15 minute walk, the return is up a very long and steep hill. We noticed, after several trips up and down the hill, that there is a bus that goes up the hill. It would have been helpful if at reception, someone would have alerted us to the availability of the bus and indicated the bus number and cost.

On the positive side, there are a number of small, reasonably priced restaurants across from the hotel. The hotel buffet breakfast, which was included in our reservation, was excellent and offered a vast number of choices of food.

Room was very generous size and 'double' bed was 6ft and very comfy! Double sink and spotless bathroom. We were lucky to have a balcony with view over the sea. Breakfast buffet offered fantastic choice and one night we opted for Madeiran evening buffet and were visited by a traditional Madeiran singing and dancing group! Within walking distance of the town and hotel also provided us with information on tours with direct or nearby pick up.

The location, the Staff, the cleanliness of the place, lovely breakfast and big choice of food at the breakfast buffet, overall very very relaxing stay. Spa is a great bonus as in January, the pool is still too cold to dip in. Enjoyed morning coffee overlooking the harbour and cruise ships.

Great location, very retro in the communal areas. large selection at breakfast, few negative point though. If you have a garden facing room, take ear plugs. The nightclub at the casino goes on till 3/4 am and the noise from the club is LOUD!. Also if you have a suit at the sea end of the hotel, be prepared for noise from the cruise terminal pumping station. Room service was rather late in the day/ none existent My room was only cleaned after 4pm and another room in our group wasnt cleaned at all. Over all the the hotel is very nice place to stay

I commend you on the inviting atmosphere and thoughtful layout of the lobby and floors, with comfortable seating enhancing the overall experience.

However, I faced some inconveniences during my stay. The lack of an iron and ironing board was inconvenient, as I was informed that this was due to fire hazard policies. While I understand safety regulations, I believe these amenities would improve guest satisfaction.

Additionally, clean towels were not provided during housekeeping, and one of the washcloths I used was not replaced. My daughter’s washcloth was left hanging by the bathtub. Having replacements available would ensure guests have what they need.

The complimentary breakfast was limited, with the potatoes never served warm or hot. It's important to ensure that meals are enjoyable for guests.

Lastly, I attempted multiple times to book spa services but found the spa unattended, with no indication of when someone would be available. Thank you for considering my feedback.

Parking at casino is $12€ per day and no in and out privileges.

Cleaning staff came in and cleaned our room on day 3 even though we had do not disturb sign up.

Blow dryer in our room broke. We called 4 times, went to the front desk and it was never fixed. Eventually on day 3 they brought us a plug in one.

Beautiful spot… staff service leaves something to be desired.

Overall, the hotel wasn’t a 5 star hotel experience by any stretch. Parking in the hotel isn’t convenient and isn’t included. For a five star hotel I would expect this to be included. The showers are ridiculously small, there are no hooks to hang your towels and the dinner buffet wasn’t great. I would rate this hotel a 3 to 4 star. The only good thing is its convenient location and breakfast. The staff were friendly at least. I would also expect more fun activities that wouldn’t include a 8 euro charge for an hour game of pool. Overall, I would not recommend it if you are expecting a 5 star experience.

A good location

Great location but a little tired in places, particularly the room. The room smelt musty upon first entry, my wife said it smelt of smoke. Bath plug was missing and there was hair on our floor and in our bathroom which was definitely not ours. I think housecleaning can do with an upgrade. Also towels were not always replaced.

On the service side, staff were polite but not always helpful. As it was our first time, we asked for directions only to be given a map and told to look on that.

Bar prices were a bit expensive. €6.50 for a lager an lime, €4 down the road.

Buffet breakfast was ok. Had much better elsewhere.

But overall it was good and the location was very good. We particularly like the Prince Albert pub 3 mins walk away.

The staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay . The room was probably in need of an update but cannot fault the cleanliness . It has a lovely bar area inside and out and both the outdoor pools were clean and tidy . The indoor spa and pool were an added bonus . We were B&B and the breakfast was more than acceptable. We did eat in the restaurant on one of the evenings and found the food lacking in choice but this would be my only negative. The hotel is a 20min walk into the town centre and very handy for bus stops/taxis and lots of restaurants in walking distance . We found it an excellent base to explore Funchal from .

Great location and beautiful pool with a great view. Unfortunately that's where it ends. We stayed in this hotel twice, once before the cruise and once after. If my second booking was refundable then I wouldn't have gone back. Staff at the front desk are completely incompetent and not properly trained. The gym equipment has not been serviced in years. I complained about this on the first visit hoping that at least one of the cardio machines would work a week later, but nothing was done about it. What makes is worse is the staff seems annoyed when you bring this up. Loved Madeira but won't go back to this hotel.

Location! - the Casino Park is without a doubt the best located hotel in Funchal - you get out and walk to all major sights. That comes with a curse - NOISE, LOUD INCESSANT NOISE ALL NIGHT LONG - which is not their fault but rather the municipality of Funchal, that somehow believes that absolutely insultingly and preposterously loud concerts of horrendously mediocre bands and music is what tourists that stay in 5 star hotels want.... in any case, the Casino Park - which 40 years ago was the Grand Dame of Funchal is clearly dated, not a 5 star hotel, at best a 4 star - needs renovations/dire improvements in a few areas: there are no coffee/ tea machines in the room, the breakfast buffett is a disgraceful display of bad, processed, garbage food, they have four coffee machines for 200 people: it takes 15-20 minutes in a line to get a cup of coffee for breakfast. There are 3 very small elevators for the entire hotel - so in a busy period, it is impossible to get one, prepare to go up and down 5 or 6 flights of stairs - which is not that bad after you ate that horrendous breakfast food... now let me mention some great things - the staff is awesome, truly concerned about the clients well being - the problem is that Grupo Pestana, who has bought all the largest hotels in Madeira, is not up to international standards, they are a cost cutting, accounting driven corporation from stingy owners who will replace 20 humans with one bad coffee machine in a heartbeat. SHAME ON PESTANA

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The hotel is ocean front and close to everything you could need. Our room and the hotel were kept very clean. The main issue I had throughout my stay was with the staff at the front desk. Every time we needed to go to the front desk, including at check in, we were treated rudely. (*Except for one tall young man with dark hair, he was the exception. Always pleasant and happy to help) You felt as though you were annoying them and information, particularly regarding parking, was inconsistent and at times misleading. I have never been treated so poorly by hotel staff before. I would never stay there again.

This is definitely not a 5 star hotel. The lobby is nice and the breakfast options are good, but the bathroom has black mould all around the tap and sealant. What 5 star hotel doesn't have a coffee and tea tray in the rooms? I went down to the bar one evening to buy hot chocolate. The very rude barman glanced at me and carried on serving others who came after me. At first I thought it was a mistake, but when he did it twice, I just walked away because I didn't want to exchange words with such an ignorant person. The evening before I purchased a cup of tea at the bar. I had to wait a while for it and I specifically asked for oat milk, which I was told they had. They arrived with regular milk which made me sick. I will rate this hotel 3 stars and that is me being generous and their bar staff need serious training.

This was a very nice hotel. The location is perfect! The rooms need to be updated. The beds were hard ( although some people like firm beds). The shower was rough because the shower head was not in the correct location and it was impossible to move it in the right direction. There were very few outlets. I couldn't straighten my hair in the bathroom because there wasn't an outlet and there was no other mirror in the room!
The breakfast, which was included, was great! The pool was only opened till 6pm.

It was an excellent stay. Location the best. Walkable to waterfront and local streets with a variety of restaurants. Views are wonderful. Breakfast had many options. Staff polite and accommodating.
The refrigerator in the room was inconsistent. Sometimes it was cold and other times it was not working. The mattresses are hard but it did not bother us. Could hear doors in the hallway but again not an issue for us.

We got a room which felt that wasn’t used for a while with a dust smell, bad bed condition and 1 glass without water or wine like we were promised. At the reception we’ve been told that we’ll get another room, we saw the housekeeping preparing the room which felt again like it wasn’t used for a while (it was the far last room). The room was even worst with dust smell, dirty on the wall and broken sockets.

We spend 4 wonderful day & nigth in the hotle
The entire staff, in all departments, was courteous, polite, businesslike, only wanting to help you enjoy your stay at the hotel and on the island, a staff that provides the highest level of service

The breakfast was very rich, clean and aesthetic and when you have to eat early before the flight they have such a service

The entire design and planning of the hotel is simply stunning, 3 pools: on the roof, outdoor and indoor, endless seating areas, we didn't want to leave, the location is perfect in the center of Funchal

Just a delightful experience.

I have never stayed in a hotel with so much space in the lobby and the gardens.There were so many different seating areas throughout the property. My only hiccup, please do not close the rooftop swimming pool before sunset actually occurs. We went up to capture the sunset only to find the access to the rooftop pool closed. We really lived the amount of space in our hotel room. We were able to experience sunrise and took amazing pictures. 👏 The buffet breakfast was fantastic each and every morning of our stay. Also really enjoyed the falcon and their trainers - what a unique experience. Obrigada

The property is beautiful and the restaurants, spa and pools are fabulous. Food is great too. Location is fantastic.
However, the beds suck! I am not a tiny woman, but thin. The beds are awful!!!! I didn’t sleep much and literally still have physical bruises on my ribs and hips, because I am a side sleeper. The beds are like sleeping on pure coils.
Sleep is so important and because of that I will not stay at this hotel again.

(P.S. I am sure I am not the only one with this issue. I stayed there because I had no choice and every day, out of 3 day stay, I saw mattresses and beds being moved around the hallway)

To the west of this architecturally distinctive 1960's hotel with an expansive property overlooking the ocean, high rise hotels on small footprints are crowding each other, competing for the view. There has been a lot of staff turnover since my previous visit less than a year ago (which I suspect is true everywhere), but they are friendly and helpful. The buffet restaurant is a convenient choice for dinner, and the dining room a spacious, glass-enclosed space with 25 foot ceilings. There are signs of new investment in the property, which is generally well-maintained. I would happily visit again despite other options.

This was our second stay at Casino Park this year. Our side sea room on 5th floor facing east was perfect. Had a great view of the sea, harbour, mountains and downtown Funchal. Only a 10 minute walk to downtown. Highly recommend.

Top hotel

This hotel surpassed my expectations. The design is iconic and the hotel whilst large is very spacious with good grounds and three pools so you do not feel overcrowded. My room overlooked the gardens and the port area it was very pleasant. There were plenty of sun beds The indoor pool and spa would be an added bonus on a day with poor weather. The location is excellent 10 minute walk to start of Funchal. We went everywhere on foot. Some excellent restaurants close by on other side of hotel too which were very good and reasonably priced. There is a supermarket close by. The gym is quite small but provides unlimited water to top up your bottles.

The pools at the hotel are great and so is the location but it is definitely not a 5-star hotel. The rooftop pool and the view from up there is amazing! The rooms are extremely dated and in need of an upgrade. The choice of food at breakfast is great but the food itself is marginal at best. There is always a line for the elevator as there are only 3 elevators for a 400 room hotel so it can be very slow. We also asked to play tennis and found out it was €16 for 1 hour to rent rackets and the court which was really expensive compared to other options on the island

Fantastic hotel with great facilities. I stayed with with children aged 11 and 14 and they loved it. The location is very good and easy to get around to shops and restaurants. The kids loved both the indoor and outdoor pool and there is a jacuzzi and roof top pool for older ones. The view from our room was stunning! It had two balconies! I would recommend and would definitely come back.

Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful with a choice of hot and cold menus. Three different pools allowed for a different experience in each and catered towards peoples needs. The room had a very nice view of the sea and was kept clean and tidy by the cleaning staff. Wi-Fi was present throughout the hotel.
