We had an amazing stay at Castanheiro Boutique Hotel. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating and friendly. Any request was granted with a smile. Our room had long views over the sea and the surroundings. We enjoyed using the rooftop pool and spa pool with the sauna and steam room.
A very varied variety of the inclusive breakfast each morning set us up for each day.
The hotel is perfectly placed for walking to central Funchal, and a very short walk to the beach

Excellent smallish and stylish hotel, boutique like but not pretentious. Very Helpful, friendly staff. Quiet street but 2 min walk into tourist spots.
Rooms were good, gym is a bit tired, downstairs swimming is small but the spa, sauna and rooftop pool and sun area are really great.
Excellent Fine dining in restaurant with very good breakfast.
Would definitely return.

Castanheiro Boutique Hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Funchal. The hotel features a beautiful rooftop bar and pool with panoramic views over the entire city — the perfect spot to relax and unwind. The rooms are very comfortable, and the breakfast offers a wonderful variety of options. The staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Its super central location makes it easy to explore the city, with all major tourist spots within walking distance. Highly recommended!

Overall a good experience. Our room was upgraded to a junior suite upon arrival which was a nice touch however a night there was a lot of noise until late as well as early in the morning. I’m not sure if this was due to location of the room (being on first floor and above the dining room/kitchen). It was difficult to sleep, especially if you’re a light sleeper.

Fantastic hotel in a great location that was close to harbour, shops and restaurants. Located in a quiet road. Lovely, well equipped room and excellent breakfast. New Year’s celebrations were outstanding and we especially enjoyed being able to view the fireworks on the roof garden, with free drinks and food provided. All of this was enhanced by a wonderful staff team. A great stay.

Tasteful refurbishment of an old property. Very friendly management and staff. Excellent breakfast, catering in general first class.
We were celebrating our anniversary and when returning after a day out found champagne and chocolates in our room, a lovely touch.

I was blown away!!! They are absolutely amazing!!! We had a 10 hr delay and upon arrival they met us with sparkling wine, directions to restaurants that were open late since we didn’t get to the hotel till after 11pm hungry and exhausted. The hotel restaurant was phenomenal!! We ate there once for dinner, every day for breakfast and dessert one night. We have GF/DF restrictions and they accommodated and made it completely normal.

The spa was great, we did the couples massage and love it. They realized it was my bday and had a whole set up by the pool.

The location was absolutely amazing as well. We rented a car but didn’t use it much. We had dinner reservations and dolphins tour all within minutes plus extremely nice just to be able to leave the hotel and be downtown and having the availability to explore and see all the shops and attractions.

Just be worn the parking is a tight squeeze so can be a little stressful to go in and out, but next to the hotel which makes it extremely helpful.

Location is excellent. Despite being only a couple blocks from all the restaurants, shops, and bars, the hotel is perfectly located on a quiet side street.

Our included breakfast was among the best I have experienced anywhere. Service was excellent and both the quality and choice of foods was perfect.

The hotel facilities, from the sauna, fitness center, etc. and the rooftop lap pool and whirlpool are wonderful.

Our room was upgraded to a beautiful suite.

This is really a top hotel in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood that would be my first choice if visiting Funchal again.

Yet far enough away from the town hub to be quiet at night. Stunning views of Funchal from rooftop pool area, great spa and good gym facilities. From the minute we stepped in the front door we were made to feel welcomed. They went out of their way to make our visit special. The hotel is lovely and had so many amenities that we didn't even have a chance to use them all. Even when we told them we were checking out before breakfast (which is excellent) they offered to pack us a picnic to take to the airport with us. We would highly recommend this establishment.

We had a terrific stay! We have been to many hotels and Castanheiro Hotel may be our favourite ever. The location is perfect for exploring Funchal. The staff is phenomenal and went out of their way to ensure our honeymoon was memorable. Lucia, along with the other front desk staff, are truly amazing and so helpful. The views from the roof top are just WOW! The restaurant, Tipographia has incredible food (try the salmon!). Highly recommend.

Great location - walking distance to all the restaurants and to the front. Inside it’s got heaps of character and nice touches. Room was spacious and bathroom excellent. Above all it’s the service that’s stand out ❤️ It was both mine and my wife’s birthday during our stay and it was a nice touch that all the reception staff knew. Communication between the front desk and the rest of the hotel was good, made our stay a seamless experience. Definitely stay here again.

It was a really lovely stay for me and my friend. Would highly recommend for a quiet getaway break in Madeira. We were greeted by an excellent front desk staff. Only drawback was that there was no iron provided in the hotel so keep in mind when you're travelling. Only laundry services provided if you needed something pressed. Another feedback would be that it would be great to add some ambient music to the pool area to bring some life to the space on certain times of the day. Else you can really hear everything that's happening in the pool space, including any movement on the squeaky pool chairs. More details really to an otherwise great holiday.

The hotel has a lot of guests so it wasn’t as small as other ‘boutique’ hotels that we have stayed in. Some staff were lovely but it felt quite impersonal at times.
The junior suite that we stayed in was disappointing. It was a large room with a lot of space but not much furniture. My main disappointment was that the room was so dark. It had a very small balcony which was overlooked by other rooms on 4 sides. (The sun reached the balcony for less than 2 hours per day).

This beautiful hotel is within several minutes walking of the active center of Funchal. The staff is very helpful. The rooftop pool and sun deck area is very nice and worth a visit in the early morning to view the sunrise over the city. Breakfast was great. The room was spacious. The entrance to the hotel is on a quiet one way street, but as is usual in Madeira, there is no where to park other than on the sidewalk. We found out that to check in you are meant to drive the car across the sidewalk, through an opening that looks like it is for pedestrians only, and park temporarily in a very small courtyard in front of the main entrance. At the reception desk, we were each provided a glass of nice Madeira wine. After that, our car was parked for us in their underground parking garage (12 Euros per night). When we exited the parking garage at the end of our stay, we discovered the switchback ramps in the parking garage required 3 point turns even in a small car. All in all, we can recommend this hotel.

The location is great, the meal offer is very good, breakfast and dinner. The swimming pool on the roof top is unbelievable. Room was very nicely decorated and confortable.
The only issue was the overbooking done by this hotel did force us to move to an other hotel for the first night, our original reservation was for 4 days.

Fabulous hotel (not a big characterless place like the big hotels past Reid’s) perfect location, and the staff were amazing, everyone of them from reception to the housekeeping. They were just so friendly, whoever does the hiring are superb at their job.

We loved the location, the breakfasts, the roof deck with pool is so much larger than you think. The bedroom as huge by any standards (usually you think a hotel room in Europe would be small, but this was huge!). The people who work there are fantastic. The area was so quiet and safe too.

This is a little gem of a hotel, a few minutes walk from the main streets on a quiet one way road (very little traffic). There’s a pool (bit small) and roof terrace, a small but adequate gym, free WiFi (as you’d expect) and bike hire available (excellent way of seeing a lot / orientating yourself quickly). Very friendly staff, excellent food. We stayed in a suite which was well presented. free cake and madeira in the room. Downsides? Our booking was double booked on the first night, so they arranged for a different hotel (CR7, nowhere near as nice), with free taxi transfers and a free evening meal, which seemed fair. Service at the evening meal was slow and the inclusive drinks therefor less fulsome as a result. Would definitely stay again.

Really nice hotel in a perfect, quiet location

We really enjoyed our four night stay here. The location is perfect - away from the main hotel area, in a quiet side street, within easy walking distance of the sea front, the old town and loads of great restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful, the rooftop terrace bar a lovely place to relax and take in the views. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of hot and cold foods from the buffet and eggs or crepes cooked to order. We would definitely return here.

Beautiful hotel in the centre of historical Funchal - very comfortable, trendy and easy access to everything in this delightful city + views from super roof terrace were stunning - there was absolutely nothing to dislike. Would certainly return without a doubt and recommend to friends/ family. The staff were so friendly and helpful, always with a smile. Definitely preferred this hotel to any of the enormous places on the edge of town.

Excellent location and wonderful hotel

We came for the carnival and the hotel was in an excellent location with everything being a few minutes walk away. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff amazing. The infinity pool at the top of the hotel had amazing views. The breakfast buffet had a great choice.

Pleasant well placed for old town & port. Close enough for everything but just far enough away to be quite and relaxing. We had a room at the front and had very little street noise.
