Excellent stay at Turim Santa Maria Hotel.
Staff couldn't do enough and were super helpful and friendly.
Room was modern, clean and had everything I needed. Breakfast buffet was fresh and plenty of it.
Good location just back from the seafront and promenade, and easy walking distance to shops and Old Town.
The staff pointed me towards their secure storage room to jeep my mountain bike safe during the stay and avoid using my room.
A great visit and I must say that I was really comfortable and had a great time.
The rooftop terrace and pool was a fantastic bonus. An amazing feature and a great place to spend time. Pool was chilly - but this is a February visit.
Good hotel, good value and recommended.

Great location with grocery shopping and other stores, restaurants within walking distance.
The room was spotless and the view was very pleasant. The room service was very efficient and arrived quickly.
I think the could have used a clock so that when you woke up in the night you knew what time it was and also the hair dryer kept turning off. That was very inconvenient.
The front desk staff assisted me with all of my tours and answered all of my questions. All in all it was a very good experience and I would return.

Great location, clean and cosy rooms, friendly staff. Parking was not available; I had to drive around for 15 minutes to find a spot 10 minutes from the hotel. Walking usually isn't a problem, but I had a health issue with both legs, so this wasn't fun. Luckily I returned the rental car earlier so I didn’t have to deal with this the other two days. The breakfast was nice, but the coffee was a disgrace. It does not fit the look of the establishment. It is one of those machines they use in cheap all-inclusive resorts where you press a button for a cappuccino, and it comes out already sweet. Keep in mind that you are not first line by the water, so sea-view is more of a horizon sea view if you are on the 5th floor or up. Overall, I liked the hotel, and I enjoyed my stay.

This will be our fourth or fifth stay at the hotel. So what can I say - absolutely everything was outstanding as usual. Reception friendliness and local knowledge, everything about our room was faultless including cleaning the room each day. Also the daily breakfast was brilliant.

My wife and I can honestly say there was absolutely nothing we find fault with about this Turim Hotel. Which is exactly why we always return to this wonderful hotel when we are in Madeira

This was a great stay. The location is great, it's about a 10 min walk to the marina/quay and downtown but we mostly used ride shares instead. The buffet breakfast was great because we did a lot of early morning tours and it made it extra convenient for us to not have to leave to go grab breakfast. The staff area great, very helpful. The rooftop view from the top floor was the cherry on top that made this trip to Madiera excellent. The only con was that the room was not cleaned the best way possible, despite us asking. We thought the cleanliness could have been better but honestly we did not care much as we wanted to go out and about and needed it to rest.

Great location for a wee break. Short walk from lots of great cafes, restaurants and the water front. The room was spacious, clean, balcony, comfortable beds, nice shower, plenty hot water. Complementary drink at the hotel bar was a nice touch although the hotel draught beer wasn’t the best! Breakfast had lots of lovely fresh fruit, unfortunately not fresh fruit juice but good choice of cooked options, breads, pastries etc. All in all would definitely recommend.

It's fifteen years since I last visited Madeira, and since the hotels at which I had stayed on previous occasions were full, I opted for this hotel - which didn't exist when I was last here - because it's located a short walk away from Funchal's market (Mercado dos Lavradores), the cable car, the restaurants in the Rua de Santa Maria and Pingo Doce supermarket.

The lobby is smart, and the check-in staff (as well as nearly all others) were courteous and welcoming. My air-conditioned room was spacious, well-presented and clean, the bathroom likewise; the bed was comfortable. The hotel's wifi was somewhat slow at times - certainly slower than the mobile data connection on my smartphone to which I had to resort on occasions. A USB socket at the bedside/desk or a wireless charging pad somewhere would have been a welcome feature of this day and age though.

Breakfast, whether cooked or continental, was varied and plentiful. The only irritation here was that the fruit juices were unimpressive in quality, while the coffee from the machine was instant, not bean. At a time when so many have coffee machines/makers at home which produce the real thing, this was a serious disappointment.

There is a pleasant roof-top bar with seating both inside and out. Service here, however, was not as warm as that experienced at the the reception desk or the restaurant/breakfast room.

These things aside, I would be content to stay here again.

Overall, this is an excellent property. It is approximately a 7 to 10 minute walk from the center of town. It is on a side street, not obvious from the main roads. The rooms are clean. The flooring is all hardwood. The furniture is beautiful. Staff are quite friendly and nice. They have a rooftop pool with a gorgeous view. The overall ambiance and cleanliness is excellent. One side of the hotel faces the street which is not that pleasant. The other side of the hotel has a better view. A word of warning in our room there is sufficient closet space but only one drawer. There was no armoire. We only stayed one night. If you stay much longer and have a lot of clothes, it would be cramped.

We had a problem with our Air Conditioner. Once we reported it the staff acted quickly and moved us to another floor.

Property is fairly close to the high street and the fruit market. Room is spacious and clean with good shower and air conditioning. Breakfast is included with the stay, a lot of different choices of pastries and fruit and it’s available until 10:30am. One downside is that there is no parking slot available on site. But hotel staff suggested a few walkable spots to park and one of them was completely free.

The hotel is clean and modern and the staff are all very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a large choice available. Our room was cleaned every day, the beds were comfortable and there was a kettle with tea and coffee in the room, also a complimentary bottle of wine, and fresh water in the room every day.
The bar off the reception area didn’t seem well used but the view from the top floor was great. The pool is small, and the wind pretty strong up there.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the seafront and the city, there are shops nearby. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Because of our delayed flight from the UK, we didn't book in until midnight. However, the hotel had arranged a taxi to collect us and kept us informed by email.
Booking in was easily done and later in the morning, the fellow at reception provided me with a teapot of milk!
The choice at breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. Another lady at reception even advised us of the correct bus and bus stop to get us back to the airport.
Only a ten minute walk into town so very convenient - what's not to like!

Great location - super convenient for the centre of Funchal and the old town and not much of a hill to go up to it. All staff fantastic and always smiling, really good breakfast, rooms good size and like the rest of the hotel very clean and tidy, views from the roof top bar/ pool superb - it was a really good choice for us!
Couple of minor comments -
- the pool was really cold! In fairness it is February but the sea was warmer.
- when you get out of the pool the floor becomes really slippery - the is our only real negative as this could be quite dangerous - two us slipped a bit.
- the spirits in the bar are a little pricey
All in all though we had a great time in Madeira and would definitely recommend and stay at this hotel again!

Very good bedroom, although cupboard and drawer storage is very limited.
The hotel is ideally located for the old town and for the town centre. Both are are a comfortable walk.
Breakfast is good, although the six hot items could be varied more than they are. A choice of eggs, rather than just scrambled would be good. We did not eat dinner.
The rooftop bar and pool present excellent views. More staff are needed to staff the lobby bar properly.

Knowledge, helpful and friendly staff. As two female friends travelling together we felt safe and taken care by all the staff. A hot breakfast was included and it was amazing. When trying to plan a day of sight seeing the staff asked questions about needs and limitations so that we would have the best experience. Everything is in walking distance - cafes, shops, fine and casual dining. There's also a lovely little salon around the corner if you need a quick wash and blow dry or get your nails done. We highly recommend this lovely hotel if you are planning to visit Madeira.

Conveniently located to oldtown Funchal and so walkable to the waterfront and some places of interest. However, transportation is required to get around in general. Hotel does not have parking so if you have a rental vehicle there are other options within walking distance. Has a roof top bar which is nice for a night drink and to enjoy the sunset. Hotel itself was fine and rooftop service staff were really nice, but the front desk was indifferent and often not present and everything about how the hotel was run felt like someone was making decisions to penny pinch; the coffee in rooms and breakfast was absolutely awful, the towels felt old and washed to death, there were no robes, the tiny rooftop pool was cloudy, and so on. Nothing was really up to good 4 star standard, except the price.

It was not bad per se, and location is very central (if extremely uncharming with all the ocean-direction balconies facing a big parking lot), but it just wasn’t very good for a 4 star and just felt like they cheaped out on everything but the building itself.

To me it just felt like the management probably cared more about cutting every cost than delivering excellence.

When we visit Madeira we normally stay in one of the large hotels on Estrada Monumental. We decided on the Turim Santa Maria this time as it was right in the town centre, to give us a change.

The hotel is clean and the staff friendly, when they are around. There is not always someone on the reception desk and when we checked in they did not provide some basic information. This info, such as breakfast time and location, how to deal with the pool towels etc, is available through the TV in the room but you have to go searching for it.

Our room was quiet and comfortable with a large balcony, which overlooked the car park. Due to the position of the hotel you are not going to get a sea view or anything like that. However, the view from the rooftop pool/bar - which was never busy when we visited - is good.

The only issue we had with the room was that one plug socket by the bed didn't work. No biggie. The other odd thing was the bed mattress had an odd plastic-like creak about it when you moved in the night!

Breakfast options are the usual buffet selection - good but not as comprehensive as some (eg. no omelette man and a limited range of cereals).

In all, the hotel feels designed more for the business traveller than holiday maker.

The location is great for shopping - well, for as good as shopping is in Madeira - and is in walking distance of many attractions and restaurants. Unfortunately, the best restaurants (for us) are much further along with island.

Was an amazing stay only gave 4 stars for property because the double bed are two single beds pressed together. They moved around constantly but the saving grace was 2 double duvets. The room was clean, well appointed and very quiet. We were across from the elevator bank and didn’t hear them at all. The location is very good and so was the breakfast. I don’t think I’ve ever had better water pressure in the shower. Our only problem was our room seemed to be in a wifi dead zone. We had good service in the middle of the room but not at either end, including the balcony. The staff did try to rectify it but not much improvement. Would definitely stay again.

This was definitely a 5-star stay. The hotel seems quite new, in spotlessly clean condition, very friendly and efficient service throughout. Location is convenient for the cable car and seafront attractions, the old town is 10 - 15 minute stroll away so everything is close at hand. The rooftop pool and bar is excellent for a chill-out after exploring Funchal. Only thing I've given 4/5 for is eco-friendliness - there's still a lot of single use plastics.

Never will I stay in a TURIM Hotel ever again

So I am a seasoned traveler and had high expectations for the TURIM hotel. I have been to over 27 countries and have never really left a bad review until now. It was ok but not four star, little things, no safe, bad WiFi, have to go to first floor to get pool towel and pool is on 7th floor. Coffee machine made everything taste like hot chocolate not the fantastic Portuguese coffee we had become used too. All of this was little stiff and no big deal.
The kicker was the staff at check in and check out. The staff at the bar and pool were awesome, not the folks. downstairs at the lobby. They talked down to my wife and were incredibly condescending and rude at check out. We are not dumb American tourists, we travel a lot and I always treat wait and hotel staff with the utmost respect. I also am multilingual and communicate well.

I will never go to another TURIM hotel anywhere in the world and there are ,any other options, many less expensive, in Madeira.
Madeira was incredible wish I could say the same for the hotel. Every other hotel we stayed at in Portugal was awesome and the staff was super friendly, TURIM could learn from them.

Good location

Check in staff were friendly and helpful.
Great location for exploring Funchal and clean room, but a bit small.
Breakfast room was in the basement with no natural light, which was a shame as it would have been nice to enjoy daylight and sunshine while eating breakfast

Overall great stay, excellent breakfast. Centrally located. The only issue is it doesn’t have its own parking space so we will have to park in different places based on hours of in and out.

The hotel is beautiful, clean and spacious. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Amazing breakfast and dinner. Roof top bar with 360°view of Funchal.
Would definitely recommend it!

Second time at this hotel, nice to receive a bottle if wine. Good breakfast which varied every day. Rooftop bar prices were good 4 euros for a large glass of wine. Pleasant staff, will stay here again on our next visit to Madeira.
