Hotel was really well located and staff were very helpful. Breakfast was nice.

We were disappointed with the room as it was incredibly tight, there was no natural light and really no air flow making it feel stuffy - FYI. We flagged to hotel but they were unwilling with change our room to a better one without us paying more. That bit was disappointing.

The room breaches fire regulations as there is no window opening to the outside of the building, thus no escape route. On informing reception of this, and requesting another room, I was told the rooms are rented “short term” therefore it isn’t relevant. Another receptionist informed me that I wouldn’t be “jumping” out the window if there was a fire. I would however have a means of escape through a window with the aid of emergency services ether using a ladder or other high rise mechanical aid. I was offered another room at a so css as Lord discount of €30 per night, which I declined as it should have been provided at no extra cost. “Madeira” fire regulations clearly state that it is mandatory that there is a window opening to the outside for both general health & ventilation, as well as fire safety. The hotel should be shut immediately until this serious safety concern is resolved.
In addition, the shower floods tge bedroom every time. The holder for the shower head was broken, water sprayed everywhere unless held manually. Although meant to be watertight from ceiling to floor, water flooded the bedroom floor, right out under the bed every time. On reporting this, the receptionist said she could leave extra towels in order for us( paying guests) to clean it up ourselves, a totally unacceptable suggestion for anyone, let alone a 4 star hotel.

Beautifully furnished boutique hotel with very helpful staff. Rooms are well maintained and kept clean. The hotel restaurant does some great menu items so worth a visit. Breakfast buffets are fine but probably not to everyone's tastes. Location is next to the cathedral so ideal for a city stay with a difference - Funchal is a super place to visit and we hit the Xmas illumination that is world famous.

A lovely hotel in a fairly busy area, close to the port, bus station, shops and restaurants. Room was clean, but quilt was super tucked in and had to be wrestled with to release and was heavy! Breakfast was fantastic and roof top bar had great views.

We stayed in what is called the Annex building a few doors down from the hotel. The Apt was lovely however the walls are paper thin and it felt like we had no privacy. You could hear every word the neighbours said and our last night we got almost no sleep as they kept us awake until 3:00 am! You could hear them out in the hallway and down the stairs! It wasn't that they were too loud just that the way the place was designed? Also communication was poor, we would go for a drink on rooftop only to find that the bar was closed or want to go to the restaurant but that was closed on that particular night. The view from the rooftop was amazing a really nice place to sit, the breakfast was great and maybe staying in the main building would have been ok but I wouldn't recommend the annex unless you don't have neighbours.

The staff was great but we did not receive an upgrade and the EUR 16 discount was only if you stayed for 4 nights. The room was a standard room without a proper door to the bathroom (glass and curtain) and no outdoor lights. Expedia over promise with their premium benefits but the only benefit was a free drink!

I cannot recommend the Se Boutique Hotel enough. The people who work there are super friendly and helpful, assusting us with booking day trips and activities and advising where i could dind sone superglue to repair my shoes.
The rooftop bar is a chill place to have an evening drink and has a good view.
Its in a good locatio, a 5 minute walk from the sea front and was quiet.

This hotel is in the perfect location in old town Funchal. Close to many restaurants cafe and the ocean promenade. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The bed was huge! And very comfortable. Spacious bathrooms. Very good water pressure in shower.At the time of booking it did state a city view(you pay a bit more) but really you have to stick your head out the window to get a view…. But it’s not really that important because it has a rooftop terrace with amazing views of Funchal and the ocean. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Decor very quirky and colourful. Would definitely stay there again!

This is such a unique beautiful hotel. The staff are very friendly and super helpful. We used the private transfer service from and to the airport which we organised through the hotel and it really did make for a stress free arrival. We were checked in early, we had an annex room which was spacious and nicely decorated. Breakfast was lovely with good variety of food. The location is fabulous allowing us to walk to great restaurants and bars and all the sites. We recommend this hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed my stay at the SE Boutique Hotel. The rooftop bar is a highlight serving some great cocktails and the breakfast was consistently good. However there were some downsides - the local area is noisy late into the night and it was necessary to keep the room curtains closed for privacy as the room was directly overlooked from flats in the opposite streets. Some staff were friendly and helpful but some were not.

A lovely hotel in a fabulous location

Hotel is perfectly positioned in the old town of Funchal with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants very close by. The room was a good size and we had beautiful sea views.
Breakfast had a good selection however earliest access was 7:30am which was a problem as many tours had a pick up pre 8am. Due to a relatively small dining area, this caused a bottle neck for other guests also. For some mornings breakfast felt very rushed for us and far from ideal ahead of a days hiking.

Great boutique hotel located conveniently for exploring Funchal. Special thank you to the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

Extremely good service from all the staff. Great location for restaurants and access to Old Funchal. There are two downsides. 1st, parking is beyond extremely challenging - as in “Good Luck Finding Parking less than 1km away.” 2nd, This is the main reason why I would not choose a place calling itself a boutique hotel. The rooms, beds, washrooms, are extremely old and uncomfortable - not what you expect a boutique hotel to be. As a recommendation, the Hotel can inprove by simple replacing all the mattresses with premium ones and simple changing everything in the room white as the current colors inside are similar to a 1970’s basement apartment. The washroom need renovations and something as simple as new comfortable toilets and modern hardware would make them incredible.

I am shocked that this hotel has 4 stars. The design is tired, wallpaper instead of tiles, needs a paint job. We had a room with a view of an interior staircase, so no light and fresh air. The water from the shower leaked into the room due to poor installation. We told the reception but we're not offered a discount.

Hot and cold water dampens stay

A quirky arty hotel with a terrific breakfast and staff serving it, but the room sadly was average at best. The room (303) we had was soulless, limited views (no issue) but the most concerning issue was that the temperature of the water in the shower was both erratic and at times scolding hot. When asked to check it, the reception told us the engineer had looked at it and it was deemed ok. It certainly wasn’t the very next day. Scolding hot and chilling cold water. On telling the receptionist again they informed us no engineers work on a Sunday. Hotels have issues, how they deal with it speaks volumes. Sadly this one left us disappointed.

The staff at Se Boutique are amazing. I was sick after eating bad mussels at a local restaurant. And the staff did everything possible to attend to my needs. The maid helped with water, the front desk provided me with food options, etc. Also, the live fado music on the upstairs terrace is not to be missed. Property and rooms clean and well maintained. And property is centrally located. Great place to stay, and if I return to Madeira, would again stay! Thank you!

The common areas of the hotel were very nice. I especially liked the roof top bar/music. It had gorgeous views and the live music was very nice. However, I cannot recommend this hotel as the bed was very uncomfortable. I made this comment to the staff when I left and they mentioned there are toppers available. Not sure if this would have helped.

Beautiful and continent hotel! The beds were not comfortable and the air does not blow on the beds so we were very hot the two nights we stayed with the air as cold as it would go. There isn’t a way to drop luggage off at the front door so be prepared to walk a bit. The staff was so helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating!

Fantastic front desk staff. Breakfast was lovely , again best staff. Rooftop bar is a must. The bartender has a passion for his drinks. The location is excellent many restaurants and shops nearby. Easy to get around. We were a last minute booking so not the best room, but if it had been planned there are many better rooms. I was happy to stay there after the fiasco of our original booking. Beware of Bella Tiago. And NO support from hotels.com

Our room had several hairs in when we arrived which wasnt nice. Paid for a double bed and got 2 single beds pushed together with gap in the middle made up as singles which seemed old and uncomfortable. Shower was cold unless left on for 20 mins to warm up first. Free breakfast wasnt edible so used another hotel for breakfast. 24 hr front desk wasnt there as asvertised so upon checking out no one was there so they just took payment of a card id reserved with but told them i wasnt using for final payment meaning we got bank charges, when i advised them of this staff were rude and we were in another part of portugal so it was inconveniant to sort out their error while still on holiday. Only good thing was the location and the rooftop bar had nice food and drink. Would go to use that again but stay else where next time.

Two sides to Se Boutique Hotel

The public spaces of this boutique hotel are well designed and have a quirky decor. With personal friendly service and a good breakfast it has a lot to offer. The hotel is located in the center of Funchal. This turned out to be the best choice we could have made since this meant we could celebrate new years eve on the amazing roof terrace and the view from there on the city fireworks show was nothing short of spectacular. The layout of the guest room floors is a bit puzzling though. The decor of the hallways and our room is dated and the shower could not decide between cold or hot which made for a less than good start of the day. After the daily clean of our room we would find hairs that were not ours which was a little alarming during the COVID 19 pandemic. On the whole we were happy with the hotel and would like to thank the staff for making our stay memorable!

The hotel is extemely well located, an easy stroll to the waterfront and to the major pedestrian and tourist zones.

The daily breakfast provided a full range of options from cereals through bacon and eggs. The hotel also kept a nice supply of local sweets at the front desk.

The staff were extremely helpful and inforned about local attractions and also organized the return shuttle to the airport.

The hotel is situated in the centre of town, convenient for all attractions but in a very quiet side street. The reception staff are friendly and interested in their guests. The decor is lively and individual and the bedrooms have all you require including drink making machine and microwave. Beds are comfortable and clean.
Breakfast has a good selection of fruit, pastries etc. but the hot food was disappointing.
Another lovely feature is the rooftop terrace bar, giving views over the city and coast and a peaceful place to relax. Altogether a hotel to recommend. We would definitely visit again! Thanks!

Hotel was nice. The air conditioning in the rooms didn't work and they knew it didn't. On the 5th day after a bad nights sleep and being bitten my mosquitos they gave us a fan. This should have been in the room when we arrived not us having to ask for a fan! Also it took them 2 days to repair the bathroom door handle. The staff were friendly and tried to be helpful but management let them down.

Lovely hotel right in centre of town but behind cathedral which starts bell ringing every 15 minutes from 08.00 so if youre not an early riser, take earplugs!
That said, the staff were really friendly, chatty and helpful and the hotel is bright & clean.There is a little cafe right outside which is excellent for coffee, toasties and a glass of wine as well as plenty of other cafes in area. Easy to get to from airport-take the aerobus to bus stop 6 then walk up to cathedral. The hotel is right behind it. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

First time visiting Madeira so wasn't sure what hotel to book. This was a lovely quirky hotel and so close to restaurants etc. The staff were very friendly. The only thing for us that let it down was the buffet breakfast. Hot food ran out quite quickly. We decided to eat out for breakfast. Wasnt a big deal for us. Would definitely recommen this hotel. We had booked shuttle from airport which was 25€ as we didnt know where hotel was located. We got airport bus back. Less than 10€ for two.

easy walk to old town restaurants/harbour

on arrival were not given suite booked but staff changed after complaint.
breakfasts were good with multiple choices.
roof bar excellent in evenings with Eduardo's gin and tonic great.
overall happy to stay here although rooms rather small with limited clothe space etc.
recommend it
