The hotel itself makes a strong first impression: its hillside location is beautiful, and our room with a view was great. Unfortunately, several issues overshadowed these positives. The most concerning was housekeeping—we personally saw staff place our pillows on our dirty suitcases and then directly on the bed in front of us. This is a clear breach of hygiene and health standards. When raised at reception, two receptionists showed no understanding,only a dismissive and authoritative attitude. This reflects a lack of training, both for cleaners and front desk staff,which is disappointing since reception is the face of the hotel.
Another serious incident was at breakfast. The oat porridge served tasted off,and after eating it I suffered stomach issues. We informed reception, explaining the risk of food poisoning for other guests. The response was dismissive again—they claimed it had been prepared the same day and ignored the possibility of expired milk. The jars of porridge remained at the buffet,putting other guests at risk.
Although the buffet looked impressive, quality was poor. Bread was dry, pastries and desserts were far too sweet, juices were mixed and tasted artificial, and fruits lacked freshness. No alternatives were offered for dietary needs,such as non-dairy milk.
Overall, while the location and views are wonderful, the lack of hygiene,training,and food safety overshadowed our stay.
Managed to get a refund for parking after speaking with one reasonable receptionist

Room was next to the kitchen therefore we had to suffer through some interminable whirring noise coming from the kitchen fan.
Air conditioning was broken and the staff seemed willing to help but no solution could be provided on night number one and we unfortunately couldn't open the window due to the racket from the kitchen. They provided a fan for night number two which was cooling. We finally got a room change on night number three and the difference was noticeable, we even noticed the shower was better! It wasn't quite worth the money spent, I must admit but, staff were polite.

Lovely hotel with great views. Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent breakfast. Dinner was just ok. Fancy looking but not great. There are far better dining options with much better quality food at lower prices in town. You must have a car or use taxi/uber as there are no paved areas on the roads surrounding the hotel and walking is perilous.

Not what you expect.

The hotel was running on skeleton staff, the facilities were mainly out of order or unusable. The breakfast was okay, and the view was stunning, but overall was a struggle given the fact it’s advertised as luxury.

Overall disappointing. Some staff were nice, but at breakfast I was disappointed by the service. I asked for some ketchup with my meal, and was just bluntly told 'no we don't have any' without apology or any offer to find some (I can't believe a big hotel would not have any ketchup anywhere in it??). The same member of staff insisted I use a saucer for my teacup in a way that felt like policing me, and they continued to stand in the room glaring at the customers in a most unfriendly manner. It felt very uncomfortable.

The room was basic, and the bedding and bed was not very comfortable. The windows were also quite dirty. Also the air conditioning was poor and the room remained very warm throughout our stay. Overall I would not recommend this hotel or stay here again.

Wonderful, lived up to its name of a great view!

The view was absolutely amazing and the rooms were wonderful. No complaints at all about that :) breakfast was fantastic and you can not beat the incredible views from the hotel breakfast, it was a little sun trap with views of the ocean and the beautiful mountains. It was a shame the hotel bar was closed in the day / evenings and it felt a little quiet and perhaps a little like it has been frozen in time since the 90s. It may be because we were there in May so a little out of season. Everything in brilliant condition, very grand hotel and could imagine it would have been a fabulous and very glamorous spot in its hay day! It was a really restful and relaxing stay here and we had a lovely garden off our room too with incredible views. there were a few very minor things like the lights in the hotel didn’t work in all parts of the corridor (not a big deal at all though) and the wifi didn’t really work in the rooms (again not a huge deal if you wanted to just disconnect but may be an issue for some)! It was only €6-9 euros in a taxi to the town, however we were hoping to be able to walk (google maps says 18 min walk), unfortunately the roads were a little precarious with no safe pavement to walk on so we decided mostly to taxi to be on the safe side! Overall we absolutely loved our stay here and honestly can’t complain, the little things we mentioned didn’t negatively affect our stay at all.

Only there for 1 night so didn't get chance to use all the facilities, but the room was very clean and comfortable with great views over Funchal, the bathroom and shower were clean and everything worked well, plenty of channels on the TV. WiFi is good in the bedrooms but no drink making facilities. Breakfast was excellent with loads of choice of hot and cold food and the ambience in the restaurant and adjoining outside terrace makes it a lovely place to eat.
The only downside is the walk up from town, steep and a little convoluted so make sure you've got plenty of charge on your phone as you set off walking and allow around 30 minutes. Otherwise around 7 euros by taxi.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING

I am not a person that would normally complain but feel scammed and wouldn't want anyone else to waste their hard earned money. This is most definitely NOT a 5* hotel as advertised. The whole place is in dire need of renovating. The carpets are worn and stained, towels are badly frayed, stained with holes. The whole hotel decor is plain and in need of a deep clean. The beds are uncomfortable, shower curtains not fit for purpose - the main curtains fabric resembled shower curtains material (also stained and filthy) Indoor swimming pool (which is also one of the outdoor pools) not heated so not fit for use in February which was also not maintained to decent standard. Jacuzzi was only just lukewarm.
Food was extremely basic, not replenished as frequently as needed. Only one staff member on to clean tables/replenish which meant there were many days of having to clear tables yourself. Amenities stated on the website don't exist - no yoga, robes, slippers, free water or massage service. Some sites state it has a local shuttle to get to town - it doesn’t. No tea making facilities in the room (when asked, was provided with kettle and cups only) If i'd booked a 3* hotel I wouldn't complain but this is a far cry from a 'Luxury 5*' as stated. It is an absolute insult to the hotels that are awarded 5* for their efforts, amenities and luxury. It's not allowing me to upload photos of which I have plenty. The only decent thing about this hotel are the views.

This isn't a five star hotel. It's more like three star with a few four star bits thrown in. The room was quite big and it had a nice balcony. None of that is any good if the beds are rock hard though. If there is one thing that you expect in a five star property, it's to have comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was very disappointing too. The choice very limited. The bacon was fake, as was the juice, and the mushrooms we're tinned. There wasn't even any toast - surely a very basic requirement. The pool was nice but wasn't heated and Madeira rarely gets hot enough to do the job by the sun. The towels were old, worn and even patched up. The views were great but not nearly enough to make up for the many shortcomings of the hotel. Poor value for money.

It was a wonderful hotel, staff were on hand at reception all day and quick to respond to requests and queries. The pool bar was not always covered by staff but made up for it in service. Definately would recommend this hotel.

This is not a 5 star, I would suggest 2 or 3 star. Terrible facilities, not even a lounge to sit and read - just the entrance hall. Tiny swimming pool, the outdoor pool unheated. No hint of luxury or quality anywhere. We were gutted.

Charming Hotel with Impressive Views.

Lovely Hotel, spacious & comfortable. Loved the pool area and used the small gym to do Tai Chi. Quite a long walk into town and uphill to get back ,on busy narrow road. Best to use hotel shuttle, local bus or taxi.

Excellent hotel.

An excellent hotel in a good location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was big and bathroom was clean. Breakfast was a varied continental with cooked options. Eating on the patio overlooking Funchal was a great way to start the day. Hotel has a free shuttle into town but it is a pleassant walk down but we used taxi to get back.
Would stay here again.

This is a lovely, comfortable, hotel with spacious rooms and great service. The terrace has a spectacular view of Funchal and was great for breakfast, where we also enjoyed the complementary bubbles! The pool is small, but adequate, and the pool area also faces the town and ocean (though sun loungers need an \"upgrade\" as they are quite worn). It is a 5-minute taxi-drive from the hotel to the centre of Funchal (~euro 6) - walking is tricky as there is no side-walk/pavement for the better part of the walk into town. There is free wifi in public areas (though not at the pool), but no wifi at all in the rooms.

All staff VERY FRIENDLY, HELPFUL, and ACCOMMODATING. Cannot fault staff despite other reviews. Wifi seems to have improved, plenty of access in large atrium but slow in room.

Here during bad weather causied BA to cancel our return flight - absolutely no help from BA! - coinciding with Monarch demise. Staff here could not have been better at supporting our predicament. At time of writing Expedia have arranged return flight 5 days after scheduled return - which was originally only a 5 night short break.......

Struggling to maintain its class

This is a hotel ideally situated looking over Funchal, importantly its away from the new high rise hotels being crammed into what’s known as the tourist area. It has an elagent vibe to it, styled to match and more reminiscent of days gone by which is very nice. unfortunately it is now showing signs of use, chairs are starting to wear along with the rugs and carpets. In fact it could all do with a bit of TLC.
However the staff make up for it by providing good service in a discrete and effortless way, especially as they seem to have no management support at all. The restaurant is very good both in food and views, if the menue is a bit limited. Overall it is a reasonable place to stay.

Lovely Hotel

We had a really lovely stay in Quinta Das Vistas for four nights in Septemmber. We arrived early evening and were greeted and promptly checked in to our room. The hotel has free car parking just steps away from the main reception. The room we had was absolutely beautiful, spacious, an incredible balcony that overlooked the pond with two geese and a swan and the sea. The attention to detail was really nice with plenty of plug sockets, lamps and mirrors, a towel robe each, mini fridge, safe etc. We never had dinner in the hotel as it cost extra but breakfast was included and each morning there was a lot of choice. Restaurant staff were friendly. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool overlooking the sea and a jacuzzi, spa and gym. Can't fault anything here. We really enjoyed our stay and are coming back soon.

Hotel however is away from sea front and up a steep hill (Hence the views) need transport to fully appreciate or allow for Taxis, Hotel does have a shuttle bus that works to a timetable. Overall, excellent.

Not a five star hotel,but far from it

I will start with the good things first . The quinta das vistas is surrounded by a well maintained garden and has a great view of Funchal .Unfortunately the view and experience within was disappointing.This is a very quite hotel that even internet would dread to venture in.Eventhough the hotel provided free wifi, there was virtually no wifi in the rooms. The hotel reception was always filled with guests with their lap tops since that was the only place with some trace of wifi. There were times when even the reception lacked any wifi. I had a difficult time sorting my itinerary/bookings/check in etc.Finding a member of staff at the pool side bar/main bar/terrace/restaurant was a more arduous task than walking the lavada.Even scarce was a smiling member of staff.The hotel did not provide any news paper or information regarding local tourist attractions. This is certainly not a child friendly hotel and did not provide any entertainment for adults or children alike . I had to wait a lot on the terrace before being served. I suspect the hotel is working with the bare minimum number of staff.The rooms are quite basic and do not qualify for a 5 star rating [expedia rating].The hotel failed to inform me that there is a 8 euro room service charge .I had to argue my case before the manager agreed to waiver the room sevice charge.Overall this hotel provides amenities that can be found in any 3 star hotel.A 5 star rating is an insult to all the genuine 5 star hotels around the world.

Madeiran Luxury and charm in one

Madeira is an island of old-world charm, taking tea at Reid's. sauntering through the old town, beautiful tropical gardens and enjoying largely unspoilt, under developed scenery on this volcanic paradise. The Quinta das Vistas typifies this beautiful island. A mixture of turn of the century charm, beautiful furniture and beautiful gardens, this fabulous hotel has amazing views, excellent staff and couldn't do enough to meet your ever need. Whether it is the fantastic breakfast selection, the 4 course dinner menu, or just the chocolate on your pillow from the turn down service, every need was well and truly met in my week there. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough!

Excellent view - 20 minutes walk from City Center

It seems like there is no management here. A lot of things did not work and it seemed like the staff did not know how to solve the problems.
The internet is non-excisting in the room (despite a room with WiFi access was booked) High cost if they should solve it - EUR 25/day.
One pool should be heated to 26 degrees Celcius which is nice during this time of the year (March 17) since it is still a bit cold at Madeira. The pool in the 2 weeks we stayed there was never above 15 degrees. Several request to the hotel staff resulted in absolutely nothing.
At the breakfast restaurant - every morning you had to ask the staff to refill the food trays several time was totally empty.

Short but pleasant stay in Madeira

My wife and I spent a very pleasant week's stay in this hotel. The room was comfortable. The food good and plentiful. The staff were, without exception, very helpful - a real plus for the hotel.

The e-connection was not good, almost non-existent, in the bedrooms but excellent in the most comfortable lobby. I failed to find the location of the \"foreign newspapers\" but have to confess that I did not ask staff just tried to follow directions in the Hotel Guide. I feel that the other missing feature for a Hotel of this quality was a small shop selling newspapers, magazines and other necessities including bus passes.

One excellent feature was the dine around opportunities where you could be taken for free to one of the other hotels in the group for dinner. with sometimes entertainment included.

Lovely Quinta with fab views

This is a lovely clean, comfortable Quinta overlooking Funchal and the ocean. This will be our third visit and is recommended for those needing a complete chill out. We prefer this hotel to the busier ones on the usual resort part of Funchal. Great food and service at a reasonable price. However on this occasion, we felt they just needed more staff. Highly recommended.

Hotel bus takes you to sister hotel not in the centre of town. 9AM and 11.45AM. We had to take a
Taxi to town and for the return. Room service is OK but there is an 8Euro tax every time.
Pools and sun deck are good and clean.

Nice hotel with beautiful sea views.

We had a great welcome from Clara at the reception. Our room was large and in good condition and the balcony had a beautiful sea view. The staff members were nice and efficient during the breakfast service and the service in the dining room was also excellent. The food was good and there was nice variety in the set dinner menus. The bathroom was good, but in my personal opinion would need modernisation, although there was nothing as such wrong with it. However, the shower curtain is too short so there was inevitable flooding of the floor; maybe a shower screen would be more efficient.

We were happy to walk just over a mile into town and back but part of the road had no pavement and was very steep, however there is a regular bus, also there is a hotel shuttle. Lovely gardens, terraces and pool with super views over Funchal and the port. Excellent staff & good selection at breakfast.

Very helpful and attentive staff, peaceful, generally older clientele with no noisy children, very well appointed , good food and excellent pools / spa. Organise free minibus transfers to town and other hotels in the same Group Great gardens.
Funchal in general: VERY well presented and we always felt safe walking around - even in the back streets and at night. Very good, cheap urban bus services to all areas.

Hotel with jaw dropping views.

Stayed here for a week for a walking and sightseeing holiday. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have great views. Breakfast was included and was very good - being held on the terrace of the property which has really stunning views of the town. Staff were in generally very helpful but some of them could have been better briefed about the local area - when you ask a question a one word answer is not always what you are looking for!

Almost there, but not quite

First let's start with the good points: This hotel is in a beautiful building and a nice area of Funchal. The staff are mostly very friendly and speak good English. The hotel interior design, especially the lobby is very nice and the views of the ocean in the morning during breakfast are amazing.

However!
The hotel is not very child friendly. I guess this is clear from the hotel specs, but there is creche or child care, the pool is unsupervised and the clientele are on the quiet side of the age and social range. Obviously nothing wrong with that but if you have children you might get some strange looks and rolling eyes.

More importantly, I couldn't help but feel there is something strange about the hotel. As if someone was following the designers of the hotel and making small changes to their plans so they just fall into the stupid side: shower curtains are spangly short by just an inch, which makes a pool in the bathroom if you're not careful. The balcony door didn't lock, the lights in all corridors are always off and come on with sensors when you're half way through the corridor making the experience scary especially for kids, the wifi is not available in the rooms (despite it being advertised), I saw cockroaches in at least 2 occasions and took pictures and 1 insect in the baked beans.

Hotel about ten minutes from the centre of Funchal.
Beautiful gardens and comfortable room.
Bathroom a little tired as are the pool areas and sun loungers.
Staff charming but seemed overworked.
Set menu quite good but food is better and cheaper in town.

We got an excellent price so quite happy overall.

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was excellent with a wrap around balcony affording superb views over the town and the harbour. There is an extensive range of facilities from sauna and turkish bath to crazy golf! The food was excellent and the staff vey helpful.

Amazing view.

Me and my partner visited Madiera for the first time for a long weekend break sometime this July. Our stay in Quinta Das Vistas was very pleasant and comfortable. Breakfast was very good, I think there's enough option for everyone and it's perfect. The food at the restaurant in the evening is also great, can be a bit expensive, so try other restaurants when you go to town in Funchal which is only about 15 minutes away from the hotel. Having the courtesy shuttle bus to Funchal as one of the services the hotel have for the guests is very helpful and convenient. Hotel's location is absolutely perfect. Superb view looking at the sea and the mountains, day and night. Very relaxing. Staff are helpful, friendly and very hardworking. Swimming pool is big enough for everyone. Very relaxing and peaceful. Perfect for couples and individual of all ages.

Fabulous Holiday

Should have been on a cruise which was cancelled 2 days before going and we took a late booking at this hotel. Reviews had been a bit mixed but we decided to take a chance. The hotel was beautiful. We could not fault the cleanliness in general, our room was lovely & big & cleaned everyday, and from the balcony a wonderful view of the gardens and the sea. The staff were always friendly and most willing and the food was excellent. Pool area both indoors and out were excellent and the pool was regularly cleaned. Only thing we had to ask for was to have our sheets changed and this was attended to the same day - this was noted so that it hopefully should not happen again. The management advised us that big changes had taken place at the hotel over the previous month due to complaints and they hoped that everything had been rectified. We felt that it certainly had. We had a wonderful stay there and would go back again tomorrow.

Certainly not for even the slightly mobility challenged, the shower curtain did not even reach the bath resulting in a very wet floor, surprisingly so, because it was a pathetic shower head (everything is the cheapest possible). Exit from hotel is on to a busy road with no pavement with barely enough room for 2 cars to pass. Very tired furnishings, my bed should have had a \"Hidden dip\" warning at the end of i! The service was extremely slow and laborious, pathetic at times (30 minutes for 2 bowls of soup), I was even presented with my bill in the restaurant by the \"Head waiter\" half way though my dessert, unknown to him I had ordered coffee!

Nice hotel, friendly staff.

The hotel suited our needs for a 5 night stay in Funchal. There were a few minor problems, for example the shower curtain was not long enough so the bathroom got wet after showering but the room was comfortable and had a balcony with a nice view. The breakfast was adequate but they do tend to run out of things towards the end of breakfast. We stayed bed and breakfast so can't comment on the other meals. We also didn't really use the facilities. It has a small swimming pool which I used once. The hotel is a 25 minute walk from the centre of Funchal down quite a busy road. We walked it a few times- there is a small pavement most of the way. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus but it only runs a couple of times a day and there are only 7 spaces so you need to book it in advance and is often fully booked. The last one coming back to the hotel from Funchal is at 4.30 so not ideal if you want to have an evening in Funchal. However there is a local bus that passes not far from the hotel which we used a couple of times and we found the taxis to be inexpensive too. All in all a very nice stay.

Lovely and comfortable, let down by lack of staff

A lovely, comfortable hotel with stunning views, good facilities and a relaxing poolside area and indoor/ outdoor pool. Our room was perfect with a huge bed and views of the island, gardens and the sea. Location is good for enjoying the views. It is about 25 minutes walk to Funchal, down a steep hill, fine once you get used to it and nice to do during day. We taxi-ed back in this evenings (5 to 8 euros). B' fast was good.
The hotel is let down by low staffing. Reception is usually manned by only one person, who spoke several languages but was clearly overworked. Hotel generally seems quite empty and lacking in atmosphere due to few staff. And the few staff there are don't greet you or smile. Quite odd! Would have been nice to have seen a presence of management or someone enquire about our stay at some point. When we checked out no one even asked us if we had had a nice time. It was hard to find someone to serve drinks at either of the bars during the day.
There is a shuttle bus to town three times a day but not in the evening. I guess this is designed to keep you in the hotel in the evening to eat at their restaurant, but we opted for the town where there are great local restaurants for almost half the price with lovely fresh fish etc. Hotel restaurant looked quite stuffy.
No tea and coffee facilities or WIFI in the rooms. WIFI in reception areas and at poolside if you are lucky.
Despite all the above points, it was a lovely base for our holiday and it was excellent value.

The staff were amazing - but it seemed to us that the hotel was being run on a shoe string. Not enough staff to provide the sort of service you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel.
The carpets throughout the hotel need replacing all that we saw were worn & stained. The corridors were dark and dingy - we appreciate that the lights were probably on movement sensors to save electricity which is fine but when they came on it was only the odd one so made little difference.
In our bathroom the bath was very narrow with a shower over which was a mixer off the taps and very weak.
We really think that Charming Hotels need to spend some money on the property to bring it up to standard and give the very hard working staff a workplace to be proud of.

Good hotel and accurately described.

Everything was good to excellent although we ate off the a la carte menu and not their normal half board offering.
Only down side was at dinner where service was very moderate. Put this down to lack of staff with one member serving both the bar and also acting as a waiter. This resulted in often long wait for pre dinner drink.
All members of staff nevertheless friendly and helpful. Any criticism aimed at management re staffing.

High on a mountain with good views over Funchal.

Spacious clean accommodation. Quiet location gives a good nights sleep. No porters and no ramp means you have to haul your luggage up the steep twelve steps to the hotel which is not easy if you are old/infirm. Breakfast buffet ok but rather uninspiring. Nonetheless we paid £73/night with Expedia which is a bargain.

Very comfortable hotel and views are amazing.

Good stay but very expensive to eat there and most of the other residents seemed to be on half board so they didn't really feel the extent of it. Walking into town was a nightmare as the road outside very busy, steep and no pavements. Hotel didn't seem to offer alternative routes if there were any and the transfer bus was very occasional.

The hotel room was pleasant enough - few negatives were free wi-fi in reception area but NOT in rooms despite what certain websites say, no hot drink making facilities and you are a captive audience paying hotel prices as few places in walking distance, rubbish flat pillows and a very strange glass panel in the middle of the bathroom separating the toilet but very dangerous as I bumped into it several times especially in the night. Could have coped with all that except that there was a baby in the room next door which happened to cry or scream throughout the night. Now we have had 3 children of our own so we did feel for the parents, however this was our long awaited break and after 4 consecutive nights without sleep we asked to be moved. The receptionist on duty was not entirely sympathetic and initially said there was only one other room which turned out to be unsuitable. She then found another which we took but there was no offer of help to move our things or the usual automatic apology. The room turned out to be directly below the room we had left, our relief was short lived when we discovered that the baby's fine pair of lungs could Also travel. So pack your ear plugs as they may be required. On a positive note the breakfast staff were pleasant and they left a cake in our room for my birthday - nice touch.

Great hotel with amazing views i

Great hotel with elegant interior and fantastic views of Funchal. About 20 minutes walk from the town - not the easiest of walks because of the steep roads - some without pavements but overall really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.

Excellent hotel high above the town.

The hotel is situated up a very steep hill above the town. It takes 20 mins to walk into town but the return journey is quite exhausting on a hot day. A courtesy bus is provided at certain times of the day and taxis are numerous and quite cheap. The staff are among the best we have encountered, nothing is too much trouble though at times they were under a lot of pressure. They were all extremely helpful and conscientious and made our stay very pleasant. The restaurant was quite good, better than the bar food, breakfasts were excellent. The pool is slightly smaller than the photo but very clean and there is a second outdoor pool as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel and it is as good as any four star hotel in England, and a lot cheaper! I'm surprised that some reviewers can knit pick as they do.

Convenient & relaxing

Warm welcome at 3am after flight delays started an excellent experience with this hotel.

There is some sign of wear in carpets & curtains but the warmth & helpfulness of the staff more than compensated, along with the pool opening out to the garden.

Breakfasts were superbly presented & the outlook of the diningroom to the sea & terrace most attractive

Wonderful hotel

Didn't know what to expect but was very impressed on arrival with the personal check-in. The hotel is not too far from the centre of Funchal and there is a courtesy bus supplied to take you in and return, or if you are brave enough, there is the local bus service! The one thing I found pleasing was that nothing was any trouble, just ask and it was done or available there and then. I could not fault the staff in any way, always cheerful and willing to help if they could. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a holiday, its worth the five stars.

A nice week in April at Quinta das Vistas

This is an excellent hotel with a good restaurant. It is very quiet so fine for a really relaxing break. There's a nice indoor/outdoor pool although it could have been a bit warmer and there had been a noticeable cutback on leisure staff.

The hotel is on a narrow, steep road so walking into Funchal is not really an option, but it didn't bother us as we had a car and used taxis.

We hired a car & travelled around the island to return & use the hotel facilities around 4.30pm.
Nice pool area. Excellent room & bathroom . We went out for evening meals but used taxis which were readily available.
All in all it was perfect for us - a nice quiet location.

It is too far from the town to walk after dinner so you need to budget for taxis. Walking in is fine downhill and there is a shuttle bus a few times a day but not in the evening unless you are going to another hotel in the chain for dinner. The room was great, large bathroom (lose the shower curtain) with all the expected mod cons in a 5* hotel. Staff were great and very helpful. We tried to learn a little Portuguese but there seemed little point after day 1. The breakfast is great with awesome views (makes up for the uphill walk from town) and a glass of bubbly. Great pool area with great views. It was very quiet, and those guests that were present were significantly older than us, resulting in a lack of atmosphere. Service was very slow in the bar area as the waiting staff from the restaurant have to make your drinks. Overall, a great holiday!

Superb Michelin quality food at unbelievable great prices. Tip if staying for 7 days ask for the 7 day dinner rate which is 30 euros(£25) per night for 4 courses of the Tasting or Chef's suggestion menu - slightly dearer if opting for 3/4/5 day package. These were brilliant so no real need to go A La Carte. Unbeatable value and can also be used at the Hotels sister venues - 2 other hotels with free shuttle bus service. Multilingual staff were excellent polite and very helpful. Rooms very comfortable with air-con. Excellent weeks break - no complaints!

Great Location and friendly responsive staff.

The panoramic view from the veranda was excellent and would recommend. Breakfast and staff was great and nothing was too much trouble,certainly 5 star rating. House maids were so helpful.
Reception team were always helpful and polite.
Ask for anything you need. The hotel set menu was expensive and the hotel bus appeared limited.

We enjoyed our stay, staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.I thought the hotel looked a bit tired in places. For a five star i was surprised they could not supply skimmed or semi skimmed milk.They also ran out of hot food one breakfast. We gave up waiting for the dishes to be replenished. The pool areas were well kept and clean.We also had an up grade to a room with a panoramic view when we arrived.

Staff exceptional but hotel not worthy of 5*

The hotel is in a good location away from all the noise of the construction work going on in Funchal city, but they do need to run their courtesy bus a lot more frequently. We walked to the city every night, as the bus didn't run to the city then, but the road is not really very safe for walking as there is no pavement and quite narrow. Taxis cost approximately 6 or 7 euros each way. We enjoyed our stay in Madeira but the hotel is quuite tired - the rooms are adequate but could be modernised. Sheets changed every day which was exceptional. Garden area needs some TLC as do the majority of the sun beds. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, but meals and drinks were very expensive. All staff were very pleasant and very helpful, and spoke very good English.

Quiet hotel with great views

A pleasant experience. The pools were refreshing or warming depending on which one you chose, the breakfast was generous and varied, and the room comfortable and with efficient air conditioning. Staff were helpful and attentive. Slight downsides - our room had a few toenail clippings from a previous guest that had been missed by cleaning staff, and the windows hadn't been cleaned for weeks, but it was otherwise very comfortable. The hotel's location gives it commanding views but it is a trek into town (don't go the direct route if you walk downhill; ask the staff for the safest route down that has a pavement). We walked down most nights and took a taxi back up the hill. Wifi was fast but didn't reach into our room unless we sat on the toilet (!) so has to be used from the lobby/lounge area.

Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

This was a very relaxing hotel in which to stay for a week, having wonderful views and being well away from the major building works going on in the harbour. The public areas are spacious and nicely furnished, and the spa and pool areas are ideal. The restaurant serves very good food, and one also has the choice of eating at one of the other three hotels in the Charming Hotels group if you feel like a change. The transport to these hotels is provided free. The shuttle bus (or a taxi) is also certainly recommended if you want to get into the town centre since it is really too far and too dangerous to walk as the roads are steep and narrow with few pavements for pedestrians.
I would certainly advise upgrading to a room with a good view as the garden rooms seem dark and uninviting by comparison to the ones on the higher floors. I had to move from the first room I was given as it had problems with noisy water pipes at night, and the wi-fi does not always work up to speed in the rooms.
The staff were always courteous, especially the excellent shuttle bus drivers.

\"A perfect escape\"

I had a wonderful week at Quinta Das Vistas. It is a perfect escape for couples and solo travellers. I loved the Pool and Spa area and was the only person using the sauna and steam room - bliss! The food at this hotel is of a very high standard. The staff are impressive and speak several languages. I highly recommend this hotel. I will certainly be back and I think I would choose a suite overlooking the sea next time.

Great holiday for relaxing

We were looking for a quiet relaxing holiday somewhere warm. Madeira met all our requirements, the hotel was very good, food was excellent. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was served on a terrace on the third floor which had views across the city and harbour.
There was an outside pool and an indoor one with a small outside area again with views across the city and harbour.
The hotel was just outside the centre of Funchal and a 30 minute walk away but a courtesy bus ran several times a day and a taxi was around 7 euros .
We will go back and recommend this hotel and the company Charming Hotels

great break

We went there to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and we were very impressed with the hotel itself which is in a beautiful setting in keeping with the environment everywhere was comfortable and clean but on top of this the staff were exceptional and it appeared nothing was too much trouble.
It isnt in the centre of Funchall but the shuttle buss is available and the walk into town is only a 20 minute walk. We often took taxis back which were 5 - 7 Euros.

Beautiful place

The hotel is not in the middle of the action but that's exactly what I wanted. You can enjoy beautiful views from the swimming pool and it's only 5 minutes to downtown by taxi or 15-20 minutes if you want to walk (it's all downhill so no problem).

The perfect place for a relaxing vacation. The staff are very friendly, rooms are nice and with great views, food is excellent and the spa is great. Can't get much better than this.
