The room was absolutely fabulous! Every employee of the hotel went above and beyond the call of duty. Our drinks at the bar were fantastic! We were very impressed with our dinner at Tapas molecular bar. It was an unforgettable experience! We enjoyed meeting and interacting with Chef Kento!

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo delivers genuinely warm, attentive service and has an excellent spa, along with a great central location. The rooms are spacious, which is a definite advantage in Tokyo. However, after staying at the Four Seasons, this property felt somewhat underwhelming. Some rooms and lobby areas are showing their age and would benefit from a refresh, and the mattresses were not as comfortable as expected for a hotel of this caliber. Breakfast was also disappointing—the service was slow, and the buffet was at times poorly replenished. Overall, while the service is kind and the location strong, the hotel no longer fully meets the expectations of a top-tier luxury stay and would benefit from a revamp.

Poor coordination and unacceptable check-out experience

I booked Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo because my first experience with the brand (Barcelona) was excellent. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet expectations.

The main issue was poor internal coordination—different staff gave conflicting information and I had to follow up repeatedly for simple requests. There was also confusion with my airport taxi: I was quoted one price, but after my luggage was loaded and I was seated in the taxi, I was told a completely different amount.

At check-out, we were directed to exit through the back entrance due to an official delegation, and the team attempted to move us to another taxi despite our luggage already being in the original taxi arranged by the hotel. This was extremely frustrating and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. For a hotel at this price point and reputation, this level of service and handling is unacceptable.

Not worth the money

Concierge service was not good at all - struggled to book a restaurant for us, needed to explain it several times to different people despite emailing in advance. Emails went without reply and the concierge team didn't speak good English or actually listen to us.

Room had a great view, although it required two lifts to get to, one on ea different side of the building to the other. Spa / swimming pool access was only free before 9.30am.

Bathroom was good but overall the furnishings inn the room were dated and the bathroom door was awkward to shut.

I expected more for the price.

The Palace was cheaper and the service was far superior and a much better room.

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo was a fantastic way to begin our Tokyo tour! We stayed here for 4 nights prior to our cruise and absolutely loved the hotel. Staff was professional and delightful to be around, food was great in the restaurants and room service.
Rooms were spacious, comfy and clean with amazing views of the Tokyo skyline!

There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel. It is fabulous. So relaxing. It was hard to leave it to go out and see Tokyo; I could have stayed there the whole time! We decided that we had the best food of our trip in the Oriental lounge on 2 occasions. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

It’s a bit surprising that the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Tokyo isn’t as well known as some other luxury hotels near Tokyo Station. Perhaps its slightly more distant location plays a role. However, it was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in Tokyo, offering a perfect blend of contemporary elegance and traditional ambiance, along with exceptional service.

Pros: The staff went over and beyond. The bar had incredible views. The bath was huge and amazing. The bed was very comfortable. Overall excellent stay.

We have stayed at this property twice in the last 2 years .
The hotel is beautiful property with stunning views of Tokyo.
We found the service has slipped ever so slightly from our initial visit but over all, still an impressive venue.
A special thank you of appreciation goes out to Kutari the young gentleman who greeted us each day in the car park. Most helpful and pleasant each and every time we saw him, service with a smile !

One negative regarding policy. The property pool is only available for guests from 6:30 am til 9:30 am. Only guests having a spa treatment booked were entitled to use it after those hours. We feel that’s not a terrific message to send to those paying clients who should be entitled to use the pool as any other hotel would offer.

I like how convenient the location is. The metro station is right next to the hotel. It takes just 10 mins to go to Ginza. It is also on the line where Omotesando and Shibuya.

I also like the bar. Very cool. Classic cocktails with its own creativity and a fine touch of Japanese culture in it.

The room is amazing. Looking directly into the metropolis.

If you like service, you will like this hotel. The service is outstanding. The hotel goes out of its way to make you feel at home. We stayed at one of the higher end suites and we welcomed with a very ample fruit basket with some of the best fruit I have ever had. The restaurants try to know you by name. The spa is first class and the sauna has a 30 story view of the city.

Ripped off and zero accountability

Hotel is a stripped down version of MO. Nothing is included with the room. You have to pay for the spa facility after 9am. They charge $60 for breakfast. They also add a 15% service charge to everything, so you get ripped off on two levels. Room was small and dated. Dirty windows.

Service is unacceptable. We were there with another couple who was getting married. The hotel knew this. We also reminded them of the wedding. Their wedding came and went, and the hotel did NOTHING. The morning after we let them know of our disappointment. Only then did they send over some fake rose petals and a bottle of champagne. When we were checking out and were asked about our stay, and we told them about the missed wedding, (among other things), they had the audacity to respond by saying they did something for the wedding. Somehow doing it a day late is acceptable and our complaint wasn't valid to them. This is the epitome of terrible customer service. Zero accountability.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo Hotel, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the warm and friendly staff to the impeccable amenities, this hotel truly exceeded all my expectations.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with genuine smiles and a seamless check-in process. The reception staff was incredibly helpful, providing me with all the necessary information about the hotel and its facilities. The lobby itself was beautifully designed, creating a welcoming and elegant atmosphere.

The room I stayed in was simply stunning. It was spacious, tastefully decorated, and immaculately clean. The comfortable bed and high-quality linens ensured a good night's sleep, and the attention to detail in the room's design was evident. The amenities provided, such as the mini-fridge, coffee maker, and complimentary toiletries, added to the overall convenience and comfort of my stay.

One aspect that truly stood out was the hotel's dining options. The breakfast buffet was a delight, but I HIGHLY suggest to ask for the japonese breakfast . The culinary experience at the Mandarin Oriental was truly exceptional.

Management greed spoilt a potentially amazing stay

As you would expect with a 5-star hotel, everything is very luxurious, and the stay was mainly OK. However, a few things let down the visit, which came down to the hotel's management's greed.

1) The suite rooms cost $1500+ a night, yet they still charge you $7 for WiFi. They provide a slow \"complimentary\" service, but it's insane that a hotel that tries to build an image as the pinnacle of luxury would be so petty and ask you to pay for regular speed WiFi in 2021. Pathetic.

2) Having stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in London, I know that the service charge they add to ancillary services isn't unique to Japan. However, what is striking is that none of the service charge is shared with the staff providing the service. In London, 100% of the service charge is given to the staff in addition to their salaries. In Japan, it is added as additional revenue for the company. This purely comes down to greed because operationally, there is no reason why they can share this money with their employees. It tells me they value their Japanese employees less than their British ones.

The Mandarin will provide you with a luxurious stay but will squeeze every penny from you and their staff in the process. I want to leave a 5-star review and come back, but their greedy philosophy has left a sour taste in my mouth. I doubt they will change, but if you want to avoid the same experience, I suggest looking for a different 5-star hotel - which there are plenty.

Although the hotel is amazing in cleanliness and service is incredible (see all the reviews about this hotel), my only complaint is the way the manger of the hotel handled me and my husbands food poisoning that happened just after we finished having a 6 course tasting in the signature restaurant of the hotel. The manager ensured us that he is going to “ investigate” this issue. However what is there to investigate? We both were sick after having the same meal in your restaurant. We didn’t ask for any financial compensation for ourselves, but asked him to give to a charity for hungry kids $2000 in name of his hotel. He refused. We felt that at least our suffering gives something positive to a hungry child. I’m very disappointed with the handling of the hotel management. That’s why this review is for the hotel and not for the restaurant (I wrote a review for the restaurant as well).

Really a great oasis in Tokyo. Rooms are large and comfortable, beautiful spot and nicely luxurious without trying too hard. Only complaint is that there is smoking in the downstairs bar and you get a whiff of it as soon as you come off the elevator at times - if you're super sensitive to this, could be an issue but wasn't at all for me.

Hotel lobby and rooms are rather dim maybe because of the yellow lighting. Service is impeccable. Chris (pardon me if I spelled wrongly) a veteran - his service was beyond describable. He helped us find where our wifi pocket is being misplaced and called up the agency to confirm that it's really delivered to our hotel. On top of that, he even helped us check that out Mount Fuji tour is on.
Room 3504 was great. If not for the cloudy weather, we would have seen Mount Fuji from our room. Housekeeping was done morning and evening or at our own discretion. It has a 24 hrs gym with gym attire and shoes provided as well. Wifi is strong and uploading is a breeze. In room dining was perfect. The food was great and we can't wait to enjoy it every single day of our stay. The nearest subway (mitsukoshimae station) is just at the basement exit A7 or A8 so traveling is very convenient. If you find it hassle to change train, just take a taxi from tokyo station - it's only 650/730 yen.

The view and the spa at this hotel are amazing but the rooms are pretty outdated. I was disappointed with my room so the staff showed me another available room and it was actually worse. I would stay here again if they remodeled. Also they have a bar with an open ceiling below the lobby that they allow smoking in and it fills the lobby and lounge with smoke which I didn't like. You have to change elevators and cross the lobby to get in and out of the hotel so it's unavoidable. The room amenities and cleanliness could have been better. The restaurant Sense in the lobby and the Gourmet Shop were great. Next trip I would spa here and stay somewhere else.

I've been to a lot of really nice 5-star hotels in various countries including the Park Hyatt Tokyo. The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo beats them all. The views from the lobby, restaurant and room were amazing. We upgraded to the \"Mandarin, Grand Twin Room\" and that gave us an amazing view of Mt. Fuji in the mornings. The room was very large, clean, and new-looking. The spa was world class with very good masseuse and nice steam/sauna/hot tub. The Molecular Tapas Bar was also amazing. Super creative. E.g. dessert dipped in liquid nitrogen. Pop it in your mouth and chew and breathe out and nitrogen comes out your nose. Not only great tasting but really fun. Mocktail pairings were great too. Live jazz and Cuban cigars available at the bar were a rare treat. The concierge was also super helpful booking tours. I tried to make a reservation at one of the hotel restaurants and was told it was full. When we ordered room service instead, the concierge had notified the dining folks and sent up free drinks as an \"apology\".

Now for the downsides (no place is perfect right?). The Sense restaurant Chinese cuisine is good but not great. But we paid almost $500 for dinner for 2 for their tasting menu. No wine. That is crazy expensive for what you got. I didn't mind paying that sort of amount for the Molecular Tapas, but here it was nuts. And don't do room service or dry cleaning...you may have to take out a second mortgage. Still I would go back in a heartbeat.

Was terrific
We had two remarkable service people: Moe in breakfast and Sara (I think) in the sushi bar
Sara actually helped my wife learn about raw fish and for the first time enjoy sashimi and sushi Then she wrote out some unsolicited information and gave her a gift. Never had that happen before

Hotel staff is incredible

Traveling with small children isn't always easy. Hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure we were accomadated to our fullest satisfaction. Friendly, polite and very helpful! Thank you so much! We had a wonderful stay at Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. Perfect location, easy access to various food options close by. Incredible views from our hotel room. We love Japan and its people. Can't wait to come back.
