Lovely area to stay, the rooms require a little TLC but I really want complain all that much about that when the rooms are a lovely size, the water is warm and the beds comfortable. All the staff were lovely and welcoming. When the say the hotel and restaurant are dog friendly they fully mean it, everyone treated our dog like she was the star of the show, providing eater bowls and treats in the restaurant. Will be back again.

The room was very nice, and the staff were friendly and super helpful.
Unfortunately our room was on the top floor on a very hot day- there are not many windows, and they don't open very much so it was very warm with virtually no air circulation. The fan provided helped a little bit, but unfortunately it was an uncomfortable night.
Again, not the properties fault, but if you have a room facing the road it is very noisy (particularly with the windows open if it is hot)- I used ear plugs which helped but there was still a lot of noise from the busy road.

We did enjoy our stay at the Cromwell. The staff were all lovely, the rooms are clean, however they are a bit dated and need a bit of TLC. We chose this place as it is not far from Upton Hall and just of the M40. Unfortunately the rain meant we didn't get chance to have a look round the area.

The service we received was first class, we asked for a change of room due to personal reasons in the evening and was given one straight away on the front, it was a hot night so had windows open, it was noisy but you expect that as on a main road and was nice to wake up with the sun in the room.

It was just an average stay. The car park needs to be signposted as couldnt find it had to pull up outside and ask for directions.
Spacious room but dated and in need of an upgrade. My room was at the front so very noisey with traffic throught the night even with the window shut and a sort of other glazing but dudnt close properly. The street lights coming through the side of the curtains. Single glaze in the bathroom and a cream blind so light comes through that too and shines under the door and the landing light on all night which resulted in light coming through.
Walls very thun as could here the person next door when in the bathroom and in the shower and also on the phone.

Check in was ok.Room was ok, bathroom in need of upgrading,and a bit smelly. They wanted to charge £2.99 for a decaf coffee, which was the type of sachet we had in our room. Needless to say we went a fetched one from the room. Didn’t eat there so can’t comment. Overall just ok, but the free parking was a bonus.

Only the breakfast saved this being one star.

After what I can only describes as the most bizarre check in where the receptionist spoke for over ten minutes to the guest in front of me also checking in, going through every minute detail as if it were some sort of competition with herself to make it go on for ever. Eventually and only after bluntly telling her I did not need to hear it all again I recieved the key to room 21.

Top of a very shabby flight of two sets of stairs this room is not for the old and unfit. Initial impressions were OK until I saw the state and smell of the bathroom. With a broken shower and no heater of anykind this dated little room was unworthy of a Blackpool guest house leave alone a 3 star hotel.

Of even greater concern was the lack of fire safety compliance which in a building such as this is paramount. Fire door gaps you could put your hand past on some doors the idea of staying put in a fire would be difficult to stomach. Getting out via the stairs probably impossible.

On a positive the ground floor bar and dining area was really quite nice and the breakfast service excellent and very reasonably priced.

Shame the check in was so appaling and the bathroom so poor.

We were in a room on ground floor out the back of the hotel. As my mother is older and cannot manage the stairs. They do not have disabled rooms here i was informed but the 3 rooms out the back are more amenable. An easter children's party was in full swing when we arrived,but 3 days later when we left their was still rubbish glasses and plates on the garden tables.Directly opposite the door is a big marquee white and big. This really needs a jet wash.and above our heads is a covered awning great as it was raining but it really needs someone to get a broom and sweep away all the cobwebs.just needs a bit of thought, the room was a good size but there was no shelves in the bathroom and us ladies need this its not nice to have to put your wash bag on the toilet. As its a really old place you can understand that floors may be uneven but it doesn’t help in rooms that are offered to people with balance issues due to age. The radiator didnt come on the whole time we were there but a small electric heater was supplied so maybe there is an issue with the radiator. The bed was really comfortable and the linen was fresh and clean, the staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble which is so nice. Its just a shame the rooms are tired abd need looking at the same as that gazebo events space, marquee

We had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel could do with a refurb parts of the hotel needed redecorating. We enjoyed the breakfast. The only negative comment was that coffee should have been served in coffee pot and not by the cup. I had to ask for a second cup of coffee. On the whole though our stay was good and staff were very friendly and helpful.

We returned to Banbury after a 25 year absence. It was a great place to re-visit, plenty to see, good places to eat, and a good base for travelling around. The staff at Cromwell Lodge were very welcoming and friendly. The food was good. We had a big room with a big comfy bed and always somewhere to park. Thoroughly recommend it!

The first room we were given was clean but had no window, gloomy and you stepped straight into the room from an outside pathway. Across the narrow pathway was a large marquee which had been in situ for some time and was grimy. We were given a much more pleasant room, comfortable with a very high bed which was difficult to climb into - we are in our eighties!! Only one chair in the room.
The staff were great as were breakfasts and evening meals. The hotel is centrally situated.

Looked to have been recently upgraded.
The wardrobe is a health hazard, it is light and the right door sticks, when we went to open it it nearly toppled over as wasn’t fixed to the wall.
There are no windows in the room so got quite stuffy.
No shelf in the bathroom to put things, we used the floor.
The bed was quite small.
The garden area was a mess, the gate didn’t shut, the bins and ashtrays were full, path quite precarious due to being covered in leaves.

The Cromwell Lodge was a good place to stay. It is comfortable enough and good value for the room price. The food in the bar is good. The decor feels like it could be updated a little but on the whole it was a comfortable place to stay. The staff were happy and friendly which was a nice way to be welcomed when we were very tired.

The hotel itself was ok although there wasn't enough staff so bar service very slow l even had to go and find someone to serve.The room we had was poor paper peeling holes filled but not painted window didn't shut very well so had all the noise from passing bar customers . Cleanliness was ok but round the side of hotel there was rubbish all over the road to car park. Would l go there again only if there was know where else available

Unsatisfactory Room!

Dear whom it may concern,

I stayed at Cromwell Lodge, Banbury on Saturday 30th April. I booked the room for myself and my partner, as it was his 21st Birthday and hence I wanted to pay that bit extra than a standard budget hotel for this special occasion. After paying £110.98 for one night in the room, I expected to have a comfortable and clean room. However, this was not the case. The bed itself had a bed spring that had broken out and actually cut my partner on the leg. Moreover, the room was very hot, yet only one window could be opened (only very slightly) and the other window was smashed. The lock to the bedroom door seemed to have been significantly damaged and therefore, as two young people staying in a new place, we did not feel very confident that the door lock could actually provide us with the security/privacy that we would expect in any hotel. There were also multiple holes/marks on the headboard, where the foam had come away. The bathroom also had additional issues, whereby the tiles were very dirty and the hinges on the door were severely rusted and finally the cover at the base of the sink had broken off and was simply ineffective.

Had stayed before as a good central location with plenty of bars and eateries nearby. Hotel is a bit tired definitely needs a touch up now. Comfortable bed ( very high) but only a double, hard when you’d used to most places having king now. Only problem was adjoined room had TV on loud till very late and then on again at 5.30 am not the hotels fault just inconsiderate customer. Always take earplugs anyway but still aware of the noise. Staff were very good and a very good breakfast sadly the restaurant was closed in the evening as no chef but plenty of places nearby. It is a budget hotel so value for money but I do think money needs to be spent now.
