The hotel is lovely stayed twice before however I checked in and got given a room and the room had damage to a wall on the right side and then damp and wet on the wall on the left. Went down after taking photos and the receptionist was apologetic and swapped the room to another however the next room had damage to the wall.

A lovely hotel, centrally located in Banbury. The hotel Inc reception, corridors and rooms were immaculate and fresh. Parking was readily available and free. We opted for the buffet breakfast option which was excellent value. All the staff were pleasant and helpful.

a fantastic price for 3 nights b & b.
Reception was friendly & when she noticed I had a broken arm she switched my booking from the main house to the 1970 something annexe as there was lots to sta in main house.
Initially.
I was dissapointed when I got to the room so the receptionist gave me the key to the original room to see if I liked it more. To be honest there’s no difference apart from lead windows with secondary glazing. Bathrooms the same. So I kept the annexe room as the stairs were too difficult.
To get to the lift you have to go outside then back in so that’s not ideal when it’s raining. But my room was by the lift so great location for my mobility.
Bed was only a double and I quickly we shed if booked two singles as we’re used to a king size -it was too small. It was comfortable .
Room has everything you need , tea coffee etc. They have toiletries on the wall in the shower & by the sink but the one in the shower was broken.
The sink tap was hanging off.
The soap dispenser & mirror needed a clean.
There was a desk with a hard chair but no single lounger chair like advertised. Could have done with that.
Room 116 had terrible banging when the heating or water system was on in the building. At night it was hard to sleep as it was so noisy.
I didn’t complain as I didn’t want the hassle of switching rooms.
Staff were fabulous.
This is a 300 year old building undergoing renovations. I could also hear the work on the Monday 9-5

Staff were very attentive, food was excellent and our room was great except the squeaky floors but in a very old house you expect that. Our bed was extremely comfortable and clean, we also got an upgrade so that was very nice. The only issue was ( and it’s not very nice to talk about) that there wasn’t a toilet brush in our bathroom and even though I asked for one it never arrived, this was our only issue but it did spoil it a bit for us.

Rooms had been renovated but if staying in the garden view part- it’s not part of the main mansion. Our garden view overlooked the car park- but the room was nice. Due to the ongoing works you would need to go outside to a separate building.
Receptionist very friendly as were the bar staff. Only thing is they close the bar a little early which is a shame. The Horton bar did open for the rugby but smelled of sewage.
The location is perfect, ample parking at the back.

Staff welcoming, professional and helpful, the main areas are lovely and relaxing, had pizza one evening and was very good, dining areas nice, and breakfast was alright, buffet style and enough options. Sadly the room had extensive previous water damage to the ceiling, 2 single beds put together which had mattresses at different levels made for an interesting king size bed, no mattress or pillow protectors on the bed either. A shame really as with a few tweaks would be a lovely room. Would stay again but probably request one of the rooms that has already undergone renovation.

The room was comfortable. But unfortunately the radiator was making loud noises that woke me up all through the night. It started around 1am and continued until 4 am meaning I got very little sleep. There was no phone or any means to call to reception, which was a long walk away. The hotel refunded me 50% of my booking cost, which I appreciated but I would have preferred 100% refund and would not have left an unsatisfactory review had they refunded me.

I stayed at Whately Hall with my wife and two year old because of its proximity to the annual tractor parade, something we look forward to every year. I booked a two bedroom room for close to £200, expecting a comfortable and family friendly stay.

Two days before arrival, we were warned that Christmas parties would be taking place. We immediately asked to be placed as far away from the noise as possible, given we were travelling with a young child. Despite this, our room was clearly positioned where noise would be an issue.

What followed was one of the worst hotel nights we have had. Loud music, shouting, and groups of people standing in the courtyard talking and screaming continued well past midnight, finally stopping around 1am. The courtyard acts like an echo chamber, amplifying the noise straight into the rooms. Our son was awake for most of the night, distressed and overtired, which anyone with a toddler will appreciate is not something you can simply ignore.

We complained during the night, repeatedly, yet nothing was done. There was no attempt to control guests, no staff presence to manage the situation, and no restrictions on people congregating outside. We had a junior suite: I loved the amount of space.

The decor was tired and it was not very homely due to the lack of furniture and features. There were stains on the walls from damp around the window and the room did not feel fresh and inviting.

The lighting in the bedroom was poor despite there being 2 bedside lamps and 1 main ceiling light.

There was 1 coffee pod in the room so we needed to request extra to have a coffee in the evening and a coffee when we woke up.

There was an unsightly stain in the middle of 1 of the sofa cushions.

The bathroom was nice and clean, but again felt a little empty.

The good news is that the hotel was installing a brand new carpet in reception. This suggests that there may be a schedule of maintenance and the bedrooms might be renewed.

The hotel.has a lot of character, the staff were lovely, the accommodation was sad and tired.

When you first pull up it looks old and grand, unfortunately the back of the hotel looks like a council block. Doesn't do the hotel any justice.
The hotel is having a re for, the room was a clean, looked nice, no issue there.
The hall way was very untildy, needs new carpet and paint job.
It's very run down, with locks broken on doors and hotel doors look very grubby. You can see a lot of work has been done. But also a lot still needs to be done.
Breakfast was lovely, no complaints there. Staff all seemed friendly and helpful.

On arrival the toilet was unclean and the room contained previous stayers rubbish. The room had a broken draw and smashed mirror in the wardrobe with nails on the floor. More attention to detail needed here.

For our 52nd Wedding Anniversary we booked a superior suite in the main building of the hotel for 2 nights. In a phone call before, we checked on lift access, needed due to mobility issues, and booked in the restaurant. On arrival we were told that the only access to the room booked was by 2 flights of stairs. We were then offered a suite in the extension building which had lift access. We were not told at that time but found there was refurbishment going on in that side of the hotel so we did have to put up with noise during daytime hours. First evening meal. Starters were okay. My husband had the Sunday roast of chicken, 2 roast potatoes, a small amount of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. He found the chicken dry. I had the lemony salmon which to our surprise came as a roast dinner, even with the Yorkshire pudding and gravy on it! After raising our concerns we were not charged for the mains. Day 2 and we stayed out all day returning about 4pm to find workmen moving furniture from other rooms on our floor down the small lift. There was mess in the lift and in the corridor. Noise continued until 5pm. For our day 2 meal we found the restaurant closed and only the sports bar open. Again we had been given no notice of this. This was the day of our anniversary so not the night we were expecting. Overall the few days were ruined as the hotel did not live up to our expectations and we were not told of the renovations being carried out and what it would entail.

The room was nothing like advertised. Needs a lot of work doing to it. Very dated. The shower head was broken so sprayed everywhere. Tiles were cracked by the shower. Extractor fan rusty and not working. Brown stains at the bottom of the toilet. Mattress too small for frame and duvet too small for cover. Stairs leading to room was covered in silver duct tape as carpet was split. People in and out of doors near our room kept us awake at night. Window warped so couldn’t shut it properly. Coffee at breakfast was a glorified flask. The gluten free section-which was good to see-had warm almond milk etc. I like cold milk on my cereal!
We think that the best rooms are saved for those that book direct not via a search engine like Expedia!
We think the nice rooms are kept

I’m sorry to say that the experience was poor. We were there for a family get together and we won ‘room bingo’ as our room only had a broken lamp and broken curtains. Other rooms had no heating, broken toilets, taps that didn’t work, door to the room that wouldn’t lock. Our room had what looked like blood on the door!
We booked a table in the ‘restaurant’ which was in fact the bar, and no one mentioned this. Therefore the menu was not the one on the website as the restaurant menu, but the bar menu. So pizzas and burgers for our special meal! The dining menu apparently was old - but to me this looks like false advertising. Who would think to check the restaurant menu was correct, when booking a table in the restaurant? Why weren’t we told it was in fact in the bar? Food was terrible and many things had run out and not replaced. If I had read the reviews on trip advisor I would have changed my booking, as they were all accurate….

The room was very well proportioned, very clean and had a lovely ensuite. It was on the fourth floor but had a small lift which made access very easy. The staff were very helpful and the English breakfast was excellent. The location in the center of the town made it very easy to access the shopping areas and the Peoples Park nearby was very pleasant and easy to walk to. The only reservation we had was that the rear parking area could only be accessed through a very, very narrow opening from the main road, which caused concern every time that we had to take the car out. Otherwise we had a very pleasant stay.

The Whateley Hotel was extremely likeable, with just a few areas where it needs tidying ie re decoration touch up in bedroom and corridors, however workmen were seen painting etc. The bathroom was great with up to date white goods, broken sink
plug chain though let it down, however extremely clean.
The double bed was large and very comfortable. Good selection of tea, coffee and biscuits in room. Lovely view of garden from room 50, well kept garden. We enjoyed a nice meal in the Berkley Restaurant, friendly attentive staff. A very good buffet breakfast, ample choices, the pastries were very hard though.
All staff in the hotel were friendly and accommodating.
All in all a pleasant and enjoyable stay, and excellent value for money and would definitely stay again.

Our room was unbearably hot with heating on full so we had to change rooms. The 2nd room had no hot water but we couldn’t be bothered to change again as it was 10pm by this point. The staff were friendly and the room was lovely but I expected better.

The building from outside looks impressive.
The bed was comfortable but had damp smell, cracked plaster and wall paper coming off.
NO HOT WATER which was very bad and no earl grey teabags in room or at reception. Staff ok but were unable sort to lack of hot water and no explanation given and issue not resolved during our stay.

Will be asking for reduction in cost.
