We found cockroaches in our room and in the buffet area at breakfast. We told the front desk staff and they sent folks to clean our room but they didn't bother to comp us anything to make up for it. We were terribly grossed out.

We stayed here during our honeymoon for 3 nights in a beach front bungalow. Can’t recommend this place enough. This was our 2nd favorite lodging during our trip where we stayed at 7 different lodgings (only behind one of the 5 star resorts on bora bora). If we visited again we would choose Sofitel again over the other resorts on Moorea offering OWBs. The staff was incredibly friendly our entire time there, and all food options come highly recommended. Do not be cheap and avoid the resort breakfast - it is well worth it. The room was very clean & we had easy access to the nearby lagoon where we had some of the best casual snorkeling of our trip. One of our highlights at Sofitel was the beach front romance dinner through restaurant K - we were picked up from our bungalow at our reservation time & dropped back off after. We also had an amazing spa session while there. The only downside for the short term is part of the property was beginning renovations when we were leaving (including the spa moving to a smaller location on site with potentially more limited offerings) in late October. Overall we would 100% stay at Sofitel in the future again.

A wonderful resort with great amenities. My husband and I stayed in an overwater bungalow. It was quiet and relaxing, with beautiful views and so many fish to see while snorkeling. The sunrise and sunset at the beach were beautiful. There was a variety of different cuisines at the buffet, and we enjoyed the dance show at dinner. The Polynesian massage at the spa was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Overall, our time at the resort was one of the highlights of our trip.

We have been to many islands and this was the absolute best snorkeling we have ever seen. HIGHLY recommend doing snorkel excursion with Sebastian and Captain Nico, it was one of the best parts of our vacation. Loved our overwater bungalow. Property is due for a renovation and they said they will be doing it sometime soon (many broken slats on wood blinds, a lot of beach chair were broken and the footers for overwater bungalows are cracked and need repair). Food and drinks at bare were good but expensive, as expected. Be aware that some bungalows are right next to a road and you can hear traffic, would recommend either overwater or beachfront bungalow. If you get a beachfront one though, there are a lot of chickens and the roosters crow constantly even at night. They feed them and really should relocate them, I love animals but they’re unpleasant. We really did have an excellent time there though!

The place was incredible. Beauty of the nature, the quality of the service and the food was very diverse and quality. The chef who was making the omelets was super friendly and he was sharing his good energy right at the beginning of the day.

The snorkeling directly from our room was breathtaking, I enjoyed every second of this hotel. My partner and I saw 2 rays, 1 shark and 1 baby turtle directly at our room which added some magic.

Simply the best. I can’t compare to Bora Bora but definitely the best hotel I had in my life.

The hotel was very dirty — I found ant COLONY in my luggage after my stay due to the unsanitary conditions of the room. There were many other insects throughout the room, including giant flies. The property is poorly maintained overall. During rainy weather, muddy water pooled all over the pathways, splashing up and soaking my shoes and clothing. The shower had loose tiles, which felt genuinely unsafe. The room itself was very dimly lit, making it difficult to pack and unpack my luggage. Plus there were loud noises throughout the night, ranging from loud music to roosters and birds crowing. There’s zero sound proofing. It felt like I was camping in a tent.

Communication and service were also far below expectations. Many staff members were unhelpful and, at times, outright rude. There seemed to be a complete lack of internal coordination — for even the simplest requests, I was told to contact the “activities person” myself, in person, rather than having the front desk relay the message. There was contradicting and confusing communication. Ie. I had to followup 3 separate times for a simple dinner reservation. Several of my emails also went completely unanswered.

Would not recommend, especially given the high price point and the Sofitel brand name. This experience was far from the luxury or hospitality one would expect.

We loved our stay at the Sofitel! We had a garden bungalow that was just one hut away from the beach. It was beautiful and very convenient to get to the beach and watersports desk. We were able to park our car easily, and everything is within a short walk. I checked out a paddleboard everyday, and we could use life vests. We booked a snorkel adventure easily. We loved their breakfast each morning, and had a nice dinner there one night. Our favorite part of the resort is the amazing coral reef right in front of the private beach. There are fish within feet of the shore. We loved both Moorea and the Sofitel more than the other places we went afterwards.

Over the water bungalow number 111, only 4 feet deep of water, lots of live coral reefs, no need to snorkel since you can see beautiful fishes from your deck. A little crackers can lure hundreds of fishes, dozens of species.
The Saturday Polynesian buffet is amazing. They have baby pig, unicon fish, trigger fish, giant clam, 5 different ways of raw tuna, chicken, beef, tropical fruits, dozens of desserts including exotic ice cream like sore sap ice cream. You got to try it if you have a chance. You can imaging the Sunday breakfast buffet is also fantastic since some leftover ingredients would show up. The clam salad and the one night dried tuna sashimi are incredibly delicious.

The most beautiful location anywhere above water. Underwater took a snorkeling scooter tour that was amazing: awesome colorful coral, reef fish, turtle and ray. Also enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding in the idyllic lagoon.

Beautiful beach and room. We stayed in the beachfront bungalow. The spa is nice and enjoyed a yoga class there. I felt the food options were limited. the night I stayed there was a buffet dinner for $95, which was way overpriced, or more casual food in the bar. I did enjoy the breakfast spread in the morning and it was included in the room.

One downfall was the stray dogs wondering the property and in the restaurant. I was grossed out having a stray dog sitting at my feet at the table waiting for food.

We did have to wait an hour longer to get into our room. The front desk provided free drinks in the lobby bar but then the service was so slow we didn’t get to enjoy them while waiting for our room. They seemed understaffed, and not the best service that you would expect.

The hotel is set on a very good beach with both swimming and snorkelling available though there was a strong current running along it.
We had a Garden Beach Bungalow. Little disappointed as this was 3 rows back from the beach and we had the beach bar blocking our Seaview.
We only went to the pool once. It was a little uninspiring.
The breakfast buffet was good but didn’t vary. We had been to the Sofitel in Fiji and this wasn’t as good.
The main restaurant at night had a reasonable menu but was expensive by NZ standards. The tapas menu in the bar was very limited and a bit boring.
In the whole had a good holiday it was a shame the weather didn’t play ball.

We stayed in three different bungalows. Our favorite was the beach view just west of the overwater rooms. You're steps from the beach and that glorious water but away from minimal crowds. Our least favorite was the ocean view to the east of the overwaters. The overwater bungalows are directly in front of you and the water. There's no beach to speak of here and the water is almost too shallow to swim in.

Staff overall was very friendly and helpful. The main attraction for the Sofitel is the water. Amazing snorkeling, incredible wildlife, and never too busy.

We stayed 3 nights in an overwater bungalow. It was very clean, bed was comfortable and cleaning staff were very good. However, like many other reviews of the restaurant and staff there, it was highly lacking for a 5 star resort. We stayed at a VRBO on the west side of the island for 12 days before going to the Sofitel. Every local restaurant we ate at was much better food and service. Our 1st night at Sofitel we tried the restaurant. Our waiter took our drink and meal order and we never saw him again. A different waiter brought my steak, which was tough and no knife. We never received our drinks. My wife had the same problem the next morning ordering a coffee. We had to ask a second waitress. If you stay here, venture off property and enjoy a locally cooked meal.

Located in one of the beast beaches in Moorea you couldn’t ask for a nicer area. The staff is hardworking and friendly, specially at the restaurant. Special shout out to Pedro and the omelette king. Where it felt flat was the condition of the hotel. The overwater bungalows are in dire need of a makeover. Get a rental care if there for more than a couple of days. Also a con is the fact that the hotel sells day passes so random day folks being loud and taking over the shady chairs at the beach.

Our beachside bungalow was right next to the warm turquoise water filled with fish and just deep enough to snorkel and swim every day. The food in the breakfast buffet was fresh and varied from day to day. The Polynesian buffet was wonderful so we went 3 times over our 9 day stay. The Vue and Beach restaurant had great lighter options such as burgers, sandwiches, spring rolls, and popcorn shrimp. We will be back!

If you love to snorkel this is the best resort on earth! Plus you can smoke inside the rooms when you need ac. Heinz is the worlds best egg chef. I do appreciated the passion fruit the staff brought us. I can’t wait to return.

I do wish there were less bugs. Even with twice daily housekeeping my husband got 37 bites the first night. I also think there must have been a language barrier as our spa costs were tripple what she quoted.

Nonetheless can’t wait to go back for club sandwiches on the beach!

The hotel and the property are beautiful. All the \"rooms\" are bungalows right on the beach, and the bungalow was large and beautifully done. You can swim/snorkel right from the beach. The pool is also nice. Food in the restaurant is great, and the staff is wonderful.

Overwater bungalow for 8 days was amazing, A/c unit was at end of life and they gave me $400 off food purchases. The rooms are 10/10 on amazing. The best and most diverse fish and coral types are right under the units. Food on the island is marginal, and the restaurant was better, but spendy. Half of the staff was amazing and the other half was just working a job. But overall, this is the best overwater bungalows on the islands for privacy, views, and water wildlife to see.

The facility was phenomenal! Absolutely outstanding. Grounds immaculate. Snorkeling in crystal clear water with brilliantly colored coral and fish was amazing. Over water bungalows were very nice but need a bit of updating. The views from our bungalow were beautiful. Restaurant breakfast great. Dinner buffet with show was good too. The lunch fare was poor and very expensive for the quality of meal you receive.
I highly recommend this property. We didn’t want to leave. You won’t be disappointed!!!!!

This place was Heaven on earth! I had the best location! It may not have been beach front (they were all sold out), but my luxury garden bungalow with ocean view was perfect! I was still able to see the beach while laying on my bed or on my porch, and that was all I really needed. Plus, it was also the perfect location because I was right next to the beach bar and a hammock and the ice machine! Sometimes I felt like I was the only one there. So it was really nice! And bed was super comfortable! The room and property may need a little renovation, but they’re all small little things. The room was still beautiful and spacious! And I loved that they accommodated my needs! I don’t really drink beer, so they replaced by daily drinks with pineapple juice! Which was perfect for the rum I bought at the airport lol And I enjoyed the little touches like the beautiful flowers all around the room and of course the yummy surprise of macarons! Overall, it was a beautiful and pleasant stay! I will for sure be back! Māuruuru, Sofitel!

Definitely the closest resort to the ferry terminal. The place was fully booked when we were there but it never seems too crowded. The concierges are very helpful for helping us plan activities. Googling, watching travel vlogs or reading reviews can only cover so much information. Always better to talk to a local about activities for the day. Things I didn’t know before my visit:
- snorkel gear, kayaks and pedal board rentals are included with the room
- there’s a scooter rental right there in the parking lot (ask the concierge about booking)
- room service meals come in a canoe(for overwater bungalows). We didn’t get it ourselves but some of our neighbors did.
- The breakfast buffet is very good but dinner can vary based on what you order. If you don’t want to eat dinner at the hotel every day, there’s a food truck about a mile south from the hotel that has excellent food and less than half the price of hotel restaurant

The rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful too.

The Sofitel is the most beautiful resort in Moorea. The beach front bungalow was a dream come true. It’s so dreamy and serene. The service was amazing, every server was more than accommodating , they welcomed us with a smile, and they treated us so well! 5 star service ! There are plenty of activities in the resort such as kayaking , paddle board, jet skis, scooter snorkeling, diving and plenty more! I love this place so much this is the second time we have made a trip out here. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are so comfortable. It was so difficult to leave the Sofitel!

From the time we arrived to the time we left, we had a pleasant experience. We had an over the water bungalow. Plenty of room. I am sure in its heyday, this hotel was top notch. Yes, the rooms are a bit worn and could use an update or fix minor things in the rooms (Mine needed a blind wand). But we enjoyed our room. Overall, the bungalows could have been a little less in price. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Both omelet chefs was very attentive especially the one that was very animated when cooking. The staff was very helpful and nice but some of the guests to be rude. Yes, I said it. The staff nice, some guests rude. Saying please and thank you goes a long way. Snorkeling was great. Had dinner in the restaurant the first night. Service was great but did not care for the food. I had the parrot fish and truffle mac and cheese. My boyfriend had seafood something. We had a car so after that we ate outside the hotel. There is a water refill station. The minibar was stocked with 1 each Coke Cola, Sprite and pineapple juice. 2 beers and 2 sparkling water. Espresso/coffee machine and teas. It is restocked everyday. Although he does not belong to the hotel, there was a black and white dog that was joy to pet. Very friendly. Watch him as he watches what's in the lagoon. He barked when he spotted a stingray!!!!

I brought a pendant from Pearl Romance. Salesperson Marie was great! Highly recommend.

Beautiful location in Moorea with wonderful on site snorkeling. We stayed in a beach front hut. It had a large porch facing the ocean, a large room and decent size bathroom. A stocked mini bar with two beers, waters and juice that is restocked daily. The bed was very comfortable and the AC was well maintained. The restaurant on site was delicious. We are there twice daily for 3 days and all the meals were wonderful.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel from 5/10-5/14. The property was clean, the staff was friendly, and the beach/snorkeling were incredible. We would stay at the Sofitel again, simply because of the beach/snorkeling.

For first time visitors, I would call out the following to help set expectations
1) Dining: The food options are limited.

For Breakfast, the buffet is fantastic and filled with all sorts of options. There is something for everyone.

For Lunch/Snacks: You are limited to the Beach Shack menu, Pure, and the Hotel Bar. Drinks are not an issue, there is an abundance of alcohol and fruit drinks.

For Dinner, the Sofitel has some partnerships with some restaurants and offers a car service so you can eat outside of the hotel grounds. You can order food from outside to be delivered or you might want to rent a car to explore other parts of the island.

2) Hotel Room Cleaning: We had to call and specifically request to get our room cleaned each day. Even though we put out the sign requesting cleaning, it wasn't until we actually called the front desk that someone came. The only reason this left a bad taste is because we were at the beach and even though we tried so hard not to track sand inside the bungalow, it inevitably happened.

3) Make sure you have mosquito repellant. Many of the rooms require you to walk through the gardens or the beach, and we did get bitten at night on our way to dinner/show.

This hotel is very expensive given that it is in real need of significant renovation. There is evidence of lots of wear and tear in the rooms, and walkways. The staff are very friendly, but some waiters seemed untrained. Bar food, beach food and drinks were very highly priced. Beach food was horrid. The beach is only part sandy with lots of broken and sharp coral, so you need beach shoes. The pool looked very tired and dirty and seemed little used. Overall the hotel had a very run down feel. We also stayed at the Hilton on the main island, and Bora Bora by Pearl resorts, both of which put this hotel into very sharp contrast.

The online photos give you an accurate picture of this property. A unique, immaculately clean and well-maintained property. Self contained with wonderful snorkeling, kayaking and other water activities. We didn’t stay in one of the over-the-water huts; instead we had a hut on shore with identical facilities only feet away from the water’s edge. The staff were most eager to please, very friendly and helpful. Moorea is absolutely beautiful and we had a wonderful stay.

We booked an overwater bungalow and oh boy we weren’t disappointed. Jumping into the water from the room, we ended up in one of the best (if not the best) snorkeling locations we’ve ever been to. Moray eels, spotted rays, wrasses of all sizes and colors, parrot fish, etc. Incredible.
On top of the tasteful and detailed service we received, we took advantage of the half board option for a delicious no compromise 3-course dinner and incredible buffet breakfast.
We also leveraged our (free) Accor club membership to get two drinks passes, which covered soft drinks during the day, and alcoholic beverages 4:30-6:30pm. We enjoyed those in the bar overlooking the lagoon at sunset.

Cannot recommend this place more for a luxurious romantic getaway.
