The staff is super friendly and kind.
Well located, you can walk from the hotel to the old town without taking a taxi.
Bedroom is lovely and wide, so is the bathroom!
Breakfast is great too, a lot of choice.
The pool area is nice but the water a little bit cold.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Rim resort

What a fabulous place, from the moment we arrived and were greeted with a cold flannel and refreshing drink from smiling staff we knew we had chosen a great place to stay.
The staff are some of the best we encountered on our trip, always smiling and helpful. The hotel is peaceful with large rooms, we had a room with a balcony overlooking a garden area, the room was beautifully styled and immaculately clean, the hotel is just within the city walls but walkable to markets and temples etc or easy to grab a taxi.
Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again 😊

Staff were all lovely and attentive. The old fashioned building and room with a balcony and wooden furniture gave an authentic feel of how people used to go about their life. Fresh barista coffee was made during breakfast every morning. Each day around 2 o’clock by the pool they treat guests with some local snacks or try to engage people with some traditional handicrafts making. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to many more with them.

Nice hidden gem of a property. Super friendly staff. Large room, firm bed, very nice aesthetics. Gym was ok, but ended up paying for a day pass at a big very well equipped gym nearby..grabbed a bike and rode to it. Pool was way too cold to use unfortunately.

My family and I had a wonderful time at the Rim Resort. The staff was so warming and attentive. We definitely felt very welcomed. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the breakfast amazing, they even opened the buffet 15minutes earlier so we can have some food before leaving for our tour at 7am. So many special details that made our stay amazing 😀

Old world charm in the Old City

We stayed at the Rim Resort for two nights. The location is excellent just a few minutes drive to the airport and a few minutes walk to Wat Phra Singh , Wat Chedi Luang and other attractions and restaurants in the Old City area. There is also a 7Eleven store and a family run Thai massage parlor near the hotel.

The staff is friendly and helpful. We did have a couple of meals at the Canal restaurant which was good and not too expensive.

The hotel is quite old and for our bad luck the rod holding the hand shower came loose and fell on my son's toe. The staff quickly helped out with a first aid kit, but our plan for the day was cut short since my son could not walk freely. The staff was very apologetic and also offered us a late check out and a free airport drop off, which I felt was very thoughtful.

Just go somewhere else. The whole property is very dilapidated and nothing like the pictures. It looks like it has been shut down for years. It was only us and one other couple staying during our time. The room was OK but there were ants everywhere. The staff was very nice and took care of the ant situation when we told them. Breakfast is very small but good. However there were ants all over in the cereal. Eggs made to order. They offer a shuttle service to and from the airport which was nice. I never write a review and hate saying bad things but I thought this one was necessary so other people don’t make the same mistake.

The Rim is well located to explore the old town with many cafes and restaurants nearby. Our room was spacious but the bathroom was in need of a refurb. Mouldy tiling in the shower was not very welcome!
The pool, although rather cold, was a great way to cool off at the end of the day!

A great boutique hotel

A really warm welcome and everything you need. Loved the free airport shuttle and night bazaar shuttle. Free cultural activities by the pool each afternoon (some edible) and good facilities in the room. It does have some ‘rustic’ charm and for some might be too far from the main attractions (around 10-15 minute walk) but we were very happy.

We stayed five nights. This is a good hotel. The staff are very polite and attentive, service is excellent. The staff go out of their way to help with any queries.
We were travelling with our ten month old baby, and were given a baby cot and allowed to check in several hours early. This was a really nice touch.
There was very noisy building works going on in the building adjacent to our hotel during our stay. There was also planned maintenance work going on at the hotel. We were not told of this in advance of us arriving. The manager told us that the building works next door should have finished in December, and were running late. He had also been told that the builders would not start work until the afternoon; they started each morning at around nine thirty. Our room was immediately adjacent to the building site, but we were offered a new room the opposite side of the hotel, and a discount on the first few nights when we had been affected. This was hugely appreciated by us.
The rooms are immaculately clean, and well presented with lovely balconies overlooking the pool. Breakfast is excellent and served in the adjacent restaurant (which seems pretty much abandoned at other times of the day). The location is good for most sites being just in the old city. Most good restaurants are a short tuktuk or taxi ride away.
The pool unfortunately is very cold.

I went to relax and this place was perfect. There was a day bed, a good sized balcony with comfy lounge seats. Even a mosquito burner.
The bath was great too. The bed linen was good quality and pillows were comfy.
The staff were attentive and looked after me.
The bar closes at 11pm and when I returned after a long walk back from town I wanted a cold tonic water so I had to push for them to find me a tonic water in the closed restaurant.
In fact, I couldn’t find a tonic water anywhere except in the bars.

Doesn’t get much sun for bathing but it’s still really pleasant for chilling.
I would stay again.

Tranquil spot with helpful staff

The hotel is tranquil, nicely designed in a more traditional Thai style. (we weren't interested in staying at a generic North American style hotel while in Thailand.) Rooms are spacious, and we opted to pay a little extra for a deluxe room and so had a nice tub, patio with seating, and bar area with mini fridge. It was great to stay in the old city. We found it easy to get around and wander, but if we wanted ideas of where to go, the staff were wonderful. They have a handy shuttle to the night markets, and especially recommend the one that happens only on Sundays. The staff are incredibly helpful, attentive and sweet. The hotel is set back a bit from the busy street, and has a garden courtyard that makes it feel peaceful and lush in the midst of the city. Only rough spot was with the restaurant/ room service staff - communication was challenging and it was hard to get what we wanted with the language gap (even w Google translate) The pool area is pretty and relaxing, but pool itself is really cold, even with the hot temps outside, water was super cold, and no one was swimming. Would have loved to be able to swim! Wifi is wobbly, but that's generally true most everywhere in Thailand, so can't fault them for that. Would stay here again for sure.

The Rim was very clean but run down as is most of Chiang Mai. The staff was friendly however did not speak English well. There was never anyone out by the pool area for drinks or for questions. The room was okay but it very very dark. You could not see to put your makeup on.

Very pleasant hotel with nice surroundings and architecture. We were upgraded from a supreme deluxe to a grand deluxe room which was a nice surprise. The staff were very helpful when my son was ill and I needed to order food to my room. Food was good. Not an extensive choice for breakfast, but what was available was good. All staff were very pleasant.

The Edge of Old Chiangmai

The Rim Resort is at the edge, or the Rim of The Old City of Chiangmai. As soon as you come into the entranceway, you are impressed by its wonderful Thai architecture. It takes you back and away from all the glitz of modern day hotels. The staff is extremely welcoming, and you are seated at the reception desk and told everything you need to know. The rooms which are extremely comfortable, are decorated in heavy dark wood, and shaded from the harsh sun by the way they are built back from the terraces. One of the things that struck me was how young those you deal with at reception, and breakfast are. And they must be complimented on the wonderful, professional job they do. The young people at reception know Chiangmai well, and can suggest what to see and where to go. They are also helpful giving advice as to how much taxi and tuk tuk rides should be, and even go out and straighten out prices with drivers before you go on your trip. I went on several tours arranged through the desk staff, and they were all great. The pool may be a little small, and doesn’t get as much sun as one might like, and the gym is also quite tiny, but people didn’t seem to use them that much and I was busy on tours, or walking around the Old City most of the time, anyway, so it wasn’t a big concern for me. The hotel restaurant is also very nice, with good food, or you can walk a little into the Old City, and find a huge selection of really good, cheap, restaurants to eat at. I highly recommend it.

Lux + Central Chiang Mai Hotel

The Rim is on the west edge of the Old City, proximal to plenty of restaurants, temples, spas, and other amenities. The shuttle service is handy & we used it to get to & from the airport, as well as to the Sunday night market. The room was clean, spacious, with a balcony overlooking the beautiful pool and courtyard. The wifi was reliable and adequate for our needs. The hotel is small enough that it never felt crowded in the hotel restaurant or pool side, but has the services and bonuses of a resort-style facility.

As others have mentioned in their reviews, something is wonky with the water - this may be beyond the control of the hotel but was one of the few cons we experienced with hot water spiking up & down for every shower. No huge hardship, but did require tweaking the knobs to avoid being scalded or frozen every morning. The fitness center/gym is also a little sad, but serves well enough in a pinch.

We read others complain about the breakfast but thought the mix of western and Thai offerings were great - tasty, varied, and no issues with quality.

I would absolutely stay here again if we ever make it to Chiang Mai in the future, and would definitely recommend this spot to others.

Nice hotel located inside the old city walls

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights this past November ( 2017 ). The hotel was in a great location, just on the inside edge of the old part of the walled city. We easily walked to many wats & temples in the area, walked to the baazar, and always felt safe walking, even at night. The food at the hotel restaurant was very good, and the free breakfast was also quiet good. Breakfast was made to order items ( we had typical hot breakfast, omelete or scrambled eggs, bacon etc ). We went to an elephant sanctuary one day and our pants/clothes got really dirty with mud, and so we used their hotel laundry service. It arrived next day right on time and nice & clean so that was a plus for us. I wasn't sure if they would get out all the mud. Nice hotel, great location....I would stay here again. The price was right and for the amount of time we were actually at the hotel, it was good enough for us to be in a safe area & easy to walk around in. Room was quite spacious actually, large bed, large bathroom, very clean. They had a nice small pool which we did not use, and we even had a nice view from our room as well. However, we really were not at the hotel much to appreciate either.

Good but not perfect

Lovely staff, but a few issues with the room itself:

Room is way too dim - much dimmer than in pictures. Construction of the hotel is such that most (all?) rooms face an inner courtyard, with the only source of natural light coming from a large patio onto a shaded veranda that overlooks the central pool. Ground floor is worst off as least light gets to the ground and our room was in the corner on the ground a floor with some additional foliage blocking off even more light from coming in through the patio.... This severely limited the amount of natural light entering the room necessitating the room lights to be turned on during the day, even with the curtains fully drawn. Recommend calling up and ensuring you're not on GF!!

Shower runs hot and cold. Annoying as you are constantly having to adjust the taps to get the right temperature.

Lack of a small/coffee table plus couple of chairs in the room itself. There's definitely space for it, but we found ourselves forced either to sit on the bed, or go outside onto the porch (not ideal if you want to avoid mosquitos) if we wanted to pass a few hours at the hotel.

On the plus side:

Lovely staff. They really are the major upside to this hotel.

Very very comfortable bed - one of the most comfortable I've had the pleasure of sleeping in at any hotel (at any star rating).

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was lovely, with a huge bed and nice bathroom. Everything worked perfectly well. The hotel facilities were lovely, with a picturesque pool area and rockery garden, and comfortable reception. The hotel is walking distance from the city centre, but better for people who enjoy walking as it's the opposite side of the moat from the tourist centre of town.
The pool bar staff were not very good at understanding what drinks we wanted but that's my only complaint, and we eventually managed to figure something out! Thanks for a great stay.

A relaxing time in Chiang Mai

The Rim Resort was perfect for our 5 night stay in Chiang Mai. We were after a place that offered comfort and a relaxed atmosphere and not too busy. A traditional styled decor that perhaps could do with a little revamping and freshening up but clean. The staff were excellent and most helpful when ever we needed anything or asked questions.

We found the Rim Resort too be a tremendous value. Facilities we're nice. We stayed in a suite, Rm #131. Large, comfortable, clean well laid out, big patio, 2 big screen tv's. WiFi was a little bit tricky sometimes but I'm a complete tech nitwit. Breakfast was good & had a little variety most days. We even ate lunch & dinner there once or twice. It never disappointed & we never got sick. The greatest attribute of the Rim Resort however is without a doubt the kind, curteous, knowledgeable, helpful staff which insured all of our wants & needs were met. They were incredible. We originally booked for 4 days and ended up staying for 10. We already miss it.

Sumptuous

Sumptuous is the best way to describe this hotel, staff and experience. Elegant, stylish with enough wood and stone accents to give it the northern Thai vibe. Great location. Very accommodating staff, early check in, late check out, arranged taxis and transport, laundry service. Great breakfast. Around the corner from blind massage. One of my favorite hotels ever!

Old world classic

Hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
A welcome drink from the bar a lovely surprise.
Our room was clean and comfortable. A bath as wall as a shower a nice change.
The pool area was a quiet oasis to cool off after a day of sightseeing.
A free shuttle bus to the markets was well utilised.

Quiet paradise in the Old City

The resort itself is beautiful and blends in with the local architecture. We stayed on the ground floor and found our room quiet and comfortable, meeting the expectations we had for the room. The breakfast included had a good variety of items, including freshly made espresso (not from powder). We ate at the hotel restaurant once, and it was good enough/reasonably priced. The staff were courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. I would recommend this place if you are planning to stay in Old City.

Nice hotel for the money

This is a very good hotel; the room is large, if a bit too dark; not enough lighting in the room, and there could be another chair or two and a desk. We had the large room, which was very comfortable with a nice small terrace. The hotel has a very small workout area, but sufficient for one or two people. the location on the edge of the old city is good. The service is fine, and they try to go out of their way in answering your questions and giving advice. I recommend it highly: not five star; but certainly 4.5 stars. There is no lift, so if you have mobility problems, stay on the first floor. It has a nice, but not too small, pool: large enough to do a bit of swimming. I found the breakfast selections to be fair; not as good as other hotels I have stayed at in Thailand, and they cut some corners, such as dispensing soap and shampoo through the large dispensers you find in gyms in the States. But that's small potatoes, compared to the service, the room and the location. I would certainly say here again

Bedsheets & pillow case doesn't feel clean (smell)

Pillow cases smell oily. They probably need to change all pillow cases to new cos new ones also have a bit of oil hair smell. other than that the place is decent, clean & tidy.

AMAZING hotel - great find in Chiang Mai Old City

My fiancé and I had a fabulous stay at The Rim. We didn't want to leave. The pool was fantastic refresher after the heat of running around Chiang Mai. Do note that the pool is very shallow (about 4 feet all around), but I enjoyed that because I could walk around the entire perimeter and cool off.

Hotel Staff: The staff was AMAZING. Highly accommodating and pleasant. We traveled last minute, and the staff at the front desk booked and organized all of our excursions for us. We did nothing but say \"hey, we want to do XYZ\" and they found a provider, contacted the venues, booked and handled payment, pick-up, etc. So easy.

Restaurant/food: The restaurant was delicious. As were the poolside drinks. The free breakfast every morning was also fantastic. American options as well as thai.

Ambiance: Unbeatable. Traditional thai architecture that had a charm that some of the other nicer boutiques lacked.

Room Comfort: The rooms were lovely. The beds were quite firm, but I didn't mind since they were HUGE and the pillows were very comfortable. Great bathrooms.

Location: everything in the walled city was easy walking distance. If you don't want to walk, you can get to most places (even locations outside of the wall) for a 60 - 120 baht Tuk Tuk ride.

Overall: I highly recommend this hotel. It has a luxury feeling (do note that the hotel does have some rustic charm but it's the simply luxury vibe that you get at boutique hotels).

Unique and historical

The whole experience was amazing however the last night our room experienced some electrical technical issues causing the AC and power to turn on and off continuously overnight every 2-3 minutes, the AC woke me up every 2-3 minutes. This made our last night of sleep very intermittent but that was our only issue throughout our stay. The rest of our stay was close to perfect.

Well priced hotel

Nice hotel convenient for airport close to main attractions also free courtesy bus to night market. Nice pool which closed at 7 no noise after that time. room 321 was good. Staff very efficient

Nice place to stay in Chiang Mai.

Arrived in the morning. Check-in was quick and the staff helpful with questions. Plenty of information was provided on things to see and do in the area. Room was spacious and clean and the prices for the mini bar and laundry services were reasonable. The hotel is located in the inner moat area of Chiang Mai and the temples and most other sights in the inner moat area are within walking distance.

Good central location close to markets

Great place to stay in a more traditional Thai style with western facilities. Air conditioning was great after a hot day out.
Staff bent over backwards to help hotel guests.
Only negative was booking a shuttle that didn't show up until we called the hotel. It's much cheaper to get a taxi or tuk tuk than a shuttle.
They could also do with replacing the robes, they are a little worn.
