This boutique hotel is divine, premium, fun convenient location out of the city but a walk to James St, New Farm Park and everything in the Valley. Service is personalised, rooms a gorgeous, breakfast is of the highest quality and bar area is beautiful if you’re enjoying a romantic getaway or business meeting. Can’t fault this place.

Minor issues. Vanity didn’t drain well. Musty smell in unit until aired out. We were challenged re taking unreserved seating at breakfast even as we had 4 rooms and breakfasts included. Admittedly it was Father’s Day but advance notice would have helped. Challenging guests is unprofessional. We travel extensively using 1class accommodation worldwide. At home the service could have been sharper. However overall this was an enjoyable time for us as we hosted our daughter’s wedding at Spicers and it was an amazing success. Just minor grievances. Hotel is fine, but honestly felt like quite a let down given my expectations from other reviews. The location is nice but other than that it felt quite basic. Also, no real facilities and we were put in a room in a separate building which was presented as an 'upgrade' to a suite but instead felt detached from the hotel. I was looking for a nice hotel stay and it felt a bit more like an airbnb where you couldn't even eat the snacks left out for you because it's actually the minibar. Sort of the worst of both worlds. Terrible water pressure for the shower and mould on the ceiling of the room.

This hotel should definitely not have 5 stars. Their service is atrocious. We arrived at 5p and there was no one at the hotel. No one to check us in, no one to help with bags. The hallways and walkway to our room was dark. We felt like we were entering an anondones house. The rooftop that was prominently displayed in the photo was closed. In short the entire experience was extremely disappointing.

This is a quaint hotel close to the bustling Howard Smith Wharf area with many dining and entertainment options as well as the very handy Brisbane ferry service to easily transport you to South Bank, another get spot to see while there.
The only issue is the rooms can be noisy with traffic and people chatting in the restaurant. The staff will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and ensure you have anything you need to make your stay comfortable.

We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful property. The staff made you feel right at home from the moment we arrived to when we left. Big shout out to Murray for the care and chats. The homely, luxurious and spacious rooms and main building were perfect for our weekend away together, and walkable to New Farm, Valley Shopping, the river and DBC as well as the Howard Smith Wharves precinct. Highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We had just such a lovely stay sadly only for one night at this gem of a hotel. The staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful from start to finish. The food is amazing, we dined there in the evening. Go for the breakfast which was included in our stay, it’s fantastic! You may feel you’re out of the city but everything is much near than you think. Great rooftop bar to watch the sunset to end the day!

We will definitely be back! This boutique hotel has delightful decor & attentive staff. The bed & pillows were very comfortable and the food is delicious. The deck is a lovely place to dine & the hotel is located on a quiet street. The rooftop bar is very cute & cosy, the perfect place to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink.

Upon arrival we were underwhelmed. Dingy downstairs reception was a poor start and the staff for checking in were not available. Parking was a problem as there were no available positions at the hotels (two) or in the street. Getting into and out of the parking area for the hotel (and nearby suites) was not easy when finding every spot was taken. We expressed our difficulty in parking only to be told parking would be better at the other address. It was not. In the end we were left stranded without parking at the hotel or in the street. Did anyone care? No. We were surprised that we were not staying at the address of 37 Balfour Street. In fact a few doors away. Entering our room which was noisy, dark and smelt of must, we were disappointed. The fridge and coffee making area was difficult to use. Not a great start. However, the hotel did grow on us after getting accustomed to facilities and decor we did not expect. The position of the hotel was not exactly classy or inviting. Shops were within a reasonable walk and the walk to the river was easy. Our expectations were much higher and not met. The bed was comfortable and we were able to close internal doors to almost overcome the noise and provide complete darkness.
Having breakfast at the main building gave a far better perspective of the hotel. Breakfast was first class and the staff likewise. The building at 37 Balfour Street too also created a feeling more in line with the tariff and hotel description.

This is a boutique hotel which means that it's a little different, but in a very pleasing way. Don't miss out on the breakfasts, they're absolutely awesome. It almost seems like half the property is a restaurant, which is very convenient, however on one of the two nights we stayed there was some noise after 10pm from restaurant patrons. Parking is also fairly limited. I loved the location, almost residential, however close enough to Brisbane to take a wonderful stroll along the Brisbane River Walk, which we did. There's an elevator down to the walk nearby and hotel staff directed us to it. All things considered, a wonderful place to stay.

We had a very warm and welcoming stay at Spicers Balfour. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room lovely and all we needed for a quick one night stay. It was fantastic to be able to head up to the roof top bar to take in the view and have a quick drink before heading out. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful.

Great hotel but really noisy neighbours
Great hotel but the suites are three doors down the road from the hotel. The two properties in-between are sub-divided into small flats and are let to young people. We found that they partied until 2am on their verandas and we got little sleep due to the drunken shouting. Also breakfast is overly fussy with set meals coked to order. We waited an hour for a full cooked breakfast on the Sunday, when lots of locals come in to eat brunch. A buffet would suit us better.

Stayed two nights in a quiet location. Had dinner in restaurant at hotel and it was excellent. Breakfast was included and that was excellent too. Will stay there again when in Brisbane. Luxurious oasis in the heart of New Farm, Brisbane
I highly recommend the Spicers Balfour Hotel in Brisbane. I recently stayed there for several nights while visiting my daughter in Brisbane. The staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, and to help in any way they could. My room was bright, clean, and stylish. The restaurant is excellent, and the view from the roof top bar is absolutely beautiful. After staying in several other hotels in Brisbane, The Spicers Balfour is now my first choice!

We came to Brisbane for a wedding and found this Spicers Hotel close to where the wedding was. It was excellent and I rate this hotel as one of the best I have ever stayed in. As I am a frequent traveller that is certainly a compliment. Some reasons of my excellent rating are: everything is freely and easily available, from an umbrella to an ironing board and iron, an excellent restaurant and excellent service from the staff. A classy hotel close to the city
The rooms and privacy are top class. The general atmosphere is relaxed and you are left in privacy, but staff are very willing to attend to every need when asked. The onsite restaurant provides great food, breakfast menu is excellent, and dinner menu is small but covers all tastes and our meal was 4/5. Front desk is not always attended, sometimes you have to find staff if they are busy doing something else, but when found are welcoming and obliging. One restaurant staff member was not up to standard of all the others, and showed some 'attitude' over a minor matter, and there was some inconsistency among staff, but overall, good to very good 3 1/2 - 4 out of 5
