Was a holiday/weekend so checkin was done through telephone/intercom and room keys locked inside.
Apartments are privately owned with some owners doing bare minimum for repairs and updates, we got one of those apartments
Location is perfect trains/ferries and buses close, walking distance to many things
Lobby/stairs and hallways are kept perfectly clean and look identical as photos
Other owners we met are friendly and helpful
Manager is fantastic, corrected a few issues we had at the beginning with cleaning.
Grocery store within walking distance
Many restaurants and cafes close by.

Great location - did find the checking in a bit hard due to all the noise on the street and had to make 3 phone calls before the door would open - found it difficult to hear the operators. Also to note the safe buttons (where our room key was located) were warn so very difficult to read.

This is a magnificent old building, centrally located, with a range of rooms. Unfortunately, the kitchen in my unit was thinly equipped, not even a single sachet of salt or pepper, and the cooking implements were greasy and needed to be washed before I could use them. The top two plates in the cupboard were also greasy.

The dustiest, cluttered hotel room we have every walked into. The air con was noisy and caked in dust. The walls we covered in an array of pictures and nic nacks that were greasey and dusty. The walls had dust hanging on them. We arrived late at night from an international flight and spent 3 hours cleaning the walls, air con, lights, windows, stains on the furniture. Put all the mostly burnt candles and clutter away. It was not like the photos. This was supposed to be a superior room, it was non refundable so had to stay for 5 nights.

Comfortable hotel which has everything you need, including washing machine, microwave etc.
My only complaint is that a drill outside was going until 1.00am. Not sure if staff at Rothbury were aware of this.

Pros: Great location and well appointed room.
Cons: The washing machine drain was completely blocked and I did the Rothbury the favour of cleaning it all out. It felt like years of filth came out of the drain plug. I spent the entire night cleaning the bathroom floor.
The area under the couch was not vacuumed.

Great location!
Hotel is rundown, old and has has that old dusty smell of an old building in desperate need of a renovation.
Rooms were large with kitchette.
Furniture was old, cushions and all felt the same dusty smell and feel of the lobby as described above.
Shower was a good size but again, the last refit of the room showed a genuine desire to not spend any money or have any class, taste or style being incongruous with the rest of the room and cheap!

This is a lovely old art deco building in a central location. Beds are comfortable and they offer a good number of channels on Foxtel. However, the upkeep of the apartments is poor and there is no daily servicing done. I had to liaise to get lights and taps fixed and to get rubbish removed.

Definitely stay again.

The apartment was lovely. Plenty of room and plenty of amenities. Only downside was the shower curtain which had a huge amount of mould on it. It seemed out of place with an otherwise clean and modern unit.
The windows have a day-time blind and a night -time one. There's definitely no chance of anyone seeing into the apartment at night.
I found the washer/dryer combination a bit annoying. It takes ages to dry your clothes. They had a rail arrangement in the shower you could dry clothes on, but it was too high for me to reach.
There is a small Woolworths down on the next corner which was great for freezer meals.
Staff at check-in were lovely and helpful.
Would definitely stay again.

I liked the art deco building.I don’t mind old buildings. It was comfortable and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The location is great, walk into city, close to lots of cafes and shops. I would definitely stay again. I did thing it was too exciting though.

The rooms are very outdated and one of our rooms needed some work done. The bi-fold doors to one of the rooms was not in working order and off the runners which made it unsafe. There were lights not working and a large exposed rusted area where there used to be a clothes line in the shower and mould in the bathroom. We were also advised that it was our responsibility to keep the room clean, which we didn't mind but there was no working vacuum or one available for us to be able to keep the room clean. When asked if they could vacuum to try keep the rooms tidy we were told that we would be charged if the cleaners were to do it. The freezer of the room was built up of frost and there was left over food/drinks from other guests left in the fridge. The top of the curtains had a layer of dust on them and areas around the room had not been cleaned properly. Some of the cupboards had dust/dirt through out, we were not comfortable even using the kitchen items such as plates, pots, cups or kettle.

I am afraid it is not going to be a good review from me. We were in room 609, and it was very outdated, not even close to the photos online. Very disappointing. The place needs serious attention. A good clean and cosmetic improvements. As soon as you got out of the elevator, we could smell cat urine. In fact, we met the black cat on our way to our room. The manager was very friendly and helpful.
I cannot recommend apartment 609 at the moment. My colleagues had mixed reviews. Some had beautiful upgraded rooms, while the majority of them felt it was not worth the money we paid.

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment and it looked nothing like their photos. I do not recommend people stay here.

There were so many things wrong with the place that I lost track. The kitchen bench and various surfaces throughout the apartment were so unclean and sticky that we immediately went to the store and purchased cleaning products. We scrubbed everything we could, but there was just so much we could do in a night.

We retched at seeing leftover food in the microwave from the last guests. The oven was barely better with coatings of food juices baked into its interior surfaces and trays. More leftovers were found in the fridge. The freezer was badly in need of defrosting.

What else? There were copious amounts of dust on the drapery and surfaces — even on the roof! Various hairs were found throughout the apartment and in drawers. Fittings for doors and cupboards were loose, missing, or broken. For some reason the elevators and hallways smelled like thirdhand cigarette smoke, especially on the 5th floor.

Given all this, we asked to check out early with a refund for the remaining nights. Was offered a different room with different problems instead. Still had mold in the shower and surfaces were greasy or sticky. I felt forced to accept on the basis that it was a very slight improvement in cleanliness and it didn't otherwise seem likely the manager would do the right thing by letting us leave without taking our money.

We were so disappointed with this accommodation, the price did not reflect the reality. The photos are very deceiving.

On our first day, we found a pair of dirty underwear in the wardrobe, we informed the lady at reception and she said she was very sorry that she didn’t clean the room and the lady that did didn’t do a very good job.

This is not a hotel it is a low level apartment accommodation at an overpriced rate.

The appartment was so dirty and out dated.
This trip was part of a celebration we were so disappointed we moved to other accommodation.

My stay at the Rothbury hotel was disappointing. I checked in after reception hours and had to provide my credit card details via their phone out the front of the property which isn't great for security in this day and age. This was even after a team member called days prior to obtain these details and were also filled out on an online check in form. The lady that greeted me at the door was pleasant however the cleanliness of the room was not great. Anything above eye level was not clean, the exhaust fans and air conditioner vents were dirty, tops of curtains and had dirt build up. There was no early checkout box, and I had call the hotel and was advised to put the keys through the closed reception grill which isn't ideal. The positives are that the position of the hotel is convenient, it was easy to get in touch with someone via phone if required and the onsite team were easy to deal with.

The Rothbury had a lovely old \"Harry Potter\" feel to it. The staff member was lovely and very helpful. The one big negative was the air conditioning was set at 27 degrees and it could not be changed. The aircon had to go to override mode to change the temperature down and every 2 1/2 hours it would reset back to 27 degrees. Terrible

Accommodation was pre paid, and I arrived at 6.30pm and the building was locked.

An intercom was the only way to communicate. I had to give all my details over the intercom, credit card, expiry date and CSV also my drivers licence in an open and very public environment!

A lot of road noise and crappy intercom speaker!!

I travel a great deal for work and I wiil NOT be staying here againA

Not a good location and not impressed with the stay. Room was very dark, no one serviced my room or topped up the toiletries or tea bags etc. No fresh towels, long way to find somewhere to eat dinner. Getting picked up out the front was impossible, two Ubers went right past me. Not impressed at all staying there, wouldn't go back again. Not value for money. Far better places to stay in Brisbane that are cheaper.

Warning!! The photos are deceiving!!!!!!!!!!! The bathroom was dirty (mouldy showers, dirty floors and bench), the room had a stench (old wet carpet smell), and to top this off....... the sheets were dirty (top sheet had brown dirt marks across the top, like someone put their suitcase down and left). There wasn't even a vending machine in the building. Oh by the way... parking is $50 and they only have 5 spots available for 25 apartments! It was so bad, we didn't even stay the 2 nights booked. We ran out of there and found another hotel 🙉
Will be chasing a refund immediately! The hygiene element was just horrible!

There was black mould surrounding the ceiling air con vent. The place was filled with dust - I actually wrote a message in it! There was dust over most surfaces - I don’t think it had been cleaned in a really long time. We used the ironing board and all white stuff fell out of it. And there was no one at reception to complain to. A terrible experience and we won’t be back or ever recommend it.

Could not be better located for Central Station which is handy if using a train to get to the city. Short walk to central shopping area and Riverside. Older building, and while the room was clean and bed was good, other furnishings are on the dated side. Nice and quiet during my stay. I found it a good value option and would stay again.

We booked two rooms, first room on level 2 was very modern clean and smelt great, my two sons occupied this. Husband and I had a room on level 4 and it was older and less modern. Had a pull down bed in the lounge that had not been cleaned in a while and the spare pillows need replacement. the bed in the main bedroom was comfortable however the aircon blew directly down on me and i could feel bugs on me during the night maybe from the aircon? The kitchen clean but small and no air movement, the tv was tiny for the huge lounge. No view from the windows and couldnt open windows at all. Overall the stay was pleasant for us and great for my sons downstairs.
Loved the ornate decor of the building as its old and has many original features such as old fashioned lifts and cornessess, ceiling roses etc

Lovely Art Deco building in a really good location, close to Central Station and walking distance to the mall.
Our room was styled nicely and the beds were super comfy, but a bit of an update eg paint, new bathroom would be appreciated. The room was really clean apart from one curtain stain.
Facilities were good - each bedroom had an ensuite and there was a washing machine in one bathroom, but basic supplies such as dish detergent and dishwasher tablets were not supplied, which I thought was odd. Bathroom consumables were nice - Mor brand.

Stayed 2 nights. Lovely Old art deco building. Spacious apartment. Quiet. No exhaust fan in bathroom and no rangehood over stove. Equipped kitchen but no large pot or large serving spoon.Comfortable bed. Desk chair not comfortable. Some furniture worn. Good to have washer dryer. Reception seemed to be open longer hours than what was sent in email. Will stay again.

This is a good clean and reasonably priced place to stay in Brisbane. It is at the top of town and almost straight across the road from the train station.
Only strange thing is the check in procedure. If your after 3pm ( which most people will be) you have to go to a key drop box.
I think the after hours drop box should be after say 8pm instead.
I would use it again as it is good value - but it’s definitely not a 5 star. I think 3.5 would be a good star rating for it.

Character and charm - building and staff

Fantastic stay, perfect location for our needs.
Only 2 minute from central train station and coffee shops within 1 minute from hotel front door.
Amazed at how quiet the rooms were with no street noise.
Staff were excellent, so welcoming and made our stay extra special.
The apartment we stayed in did need a few items to be repaired like the soap holder in the shower but this was easily overshadowed by the outstanding staff and character of the 1930s building and beautiful lifts.
Will stay again with any doubt.

Underrated hotel. Well worth staying here!

We had a girls weekend Stay-cation in Brisbane. We normally go to a coastal destination, but during Covid, we decided staying in Brisbane was needed. We had 2 x 2 bedroom (with 2 bathrooms). One of the ladies took her own room (602) & again it was great value. Room 602 in particular, was stunning. Old world charm, bookshelves in the room. When we can - my husband & I will stay here when we go to a show.
All rooms had a kitchen, washing machine, seperate bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
The reception times are not 24 hrs - in fact they close at 3pm Mon- Fri. And only for a few hours on Saturday mornings. The staff are SO lovely and full of ideas on where to go.
The decor is Art Deco style and just lovely. The lifts are just gorgeous- the stained glass & the marble stair case - sensational.

It’s just near Central Station, so 2 blocks to get into the Queen St Mall. Beside the Masonic Temple.
I’d highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for three nights in a 2bdr apartment loved how there were two ensuite bathrooms and a full kitchen. Awesome location across from central station and both the city and fortitude valley within a walkable distance. Staff were friendly too on arrival!

Positives: The check in was easy, and the staff were lovely. The bed was clean, and the location was great.

Negatives: When I arrived i was told there would be no water that night and there was nothing offered or even considered for this interruption. The room was not like the photos, the couch was dirty and stained to stained to sit on, and the TV was stuck on some strange setting and useless. There was milk in the fridge but no tea, coffee anything else to be seen, seems pointless to have milk and frustrating. The shower was also quite grimy. For this rated hotel I could have expected more.

I love the heritage style of the building, the large bright rooms and the easy access to local shops, markets and conveniences. The staff are very helpful.

Wonderful heritage building! Cosy rooms and are well kept. Very clean and tidy. Certain items like the iron or hair dryer can be a little old and dusty but its a minor issue. Really enjoyed my stay there. Perfect room that served as a little full equipped apartment. Great for those looking to cook or wash their own clothes in the room. And theres a woolworths just 2 min away!

Advise of parking at booking

Have stayed at thr Rothbury many times in the past and always received a carpark . Really disappointed to be advised at checkin that we had to park on the street and to take it up with reception in the marning. Sadly the car was covered in bird feaces and another car parked us in.

Booked an apartment because wanted the amenities of an apartment...washing machine out of order; no balcony; no oven; no access to Foxtel; tiles badly repaired; paint peeling from cornices & ragged carpet. I had to find this out for myself ie/ no prior apology or alternative offer - just a sign referring me to reception, which was never manned.

Great Location & Close to everything.

Great position. Easy walk to Queen St Mall, Casino, Riverfront, restaurants at Eagle Street, city pubs and cafes. Supermarket 100m. A little bit noisy if you like peace and quiet, as it is diagonal to Central Train Station. Only disappointment was that the roof/deck area was under renovations. Room was spacious, only complaint was there was no door on the bedroom. Bus to the Gabba nearly at the front door.

A large unit which was very clean and tidy. The cooktop want working with a note left to say not to use it. No explanation why.

Have stayed here twice- it is clean, spacious and convenient for me.

Rothbury is in an excellent position for travellers coming in from the airport as Central Railway Station is literally just across the street. Having cooking facilities and a washing machine in our apartment was an unexpected bonus. Would definitely recommend to friends and stay again

Location was good. The property is old and tired.
My shower screen was missing one panel and my in room washing machine was out of order.
The room was satisfactory and clean but not worth the price. In need of renovations.

Awesome condo!

Close to central station yet quiet in the apartment. Absolutely gorgeous refurbished old building, the elevator doors on each level were stain glass. Beautiful stairwells and high ceilings. Unfortunately rooftop gardens were closed when we were there.
