Overpriced and poor plumbing

I booked this place after reading reviews which gave glowing reports. They must have stayed at a different hotel! It was the most expensive but worst place I stayed at in this my 4th trip to Brazil. The plumbing in my room didnt function. The toilet didnt flush properly the washbasin didnt drain and water pooled up in the shower as the drain was above the tiles. The toulet in the breakfast dining area didnt work either. I had to move to a new room which was better. There were quite a lot of mosquitoes and small cochroaches.

Comfortable and pleasant hotel near the beach

Comfortable and pleasant hotel near the beach, and our chalet had an ocean view. Staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, there was always one juice, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, different kinds of bread, ham and cheese, some scrambled eggs, and a cake and/or another sweet treat. Room was clean and comfortable, a double bed, a small couch that could probably turn into a bed, decent bathroom and wireless internet access. Staff gladly provided towels for us to take to the beach daily. The only care I would have regarding this hotel is the number of stairs/steps that one must walk to get to your chalet. If you or your family have mobility issues, don't like going up steps, this hotel/pousada may not be for you. But if you are strong, \"young\" and beautiful like we are, I don't think you will regret your decision you you paid a competitive price.

Nice location, close to the beach, 20 min walk to the center along a nice walkway with the BB statue on the way :-)
Yes, there is a few stairs up to the rooms, but you will be laying on the beach all day anyway ...

Charming Pousada close to the beach

Buzious is charming and beautiful and the location of this pousada is perfect - a short walk from the beach in a quiet part of town, but only 5 minutes by car from the centre. The rooms are all little chalets with their own balconies and plenty of space. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious and the staff welcoming and extremely helpful. We loved it.

Lovely cottages spilling down a terraced hillside with beautiful views of the beaches of Buzios...rustic and simple, clean and comfortable...the perfect tonic for R&R after the hectic pace of Rio. Friendly staff, simple service. Close enough to town but removed from the nightlife sights and sounds of Buzios.

Great hotel for couples

Great hotel with lovely view. I think it's an excellent property. Very close to the beach and 15 minutes to downtown harbor area. The breakfast is average - nothing great but sufficient. The hotel is very clean and the rooms have a nice balcony with view of the ocean. That view requires a climb up a hillside so the walk to the villas is a bit of a hike but totally fine, except for travellers who have walking or fitness limitations.

My only suggestion for the hotel is to better assist guests scheduling excursions, such as day trips, snorkeling, diving. There's a slight language barrier in Buzios and that assistance would have been helpful.

Overall, great hotel in a romantic setting - perfect for couples.

Great experience in Buzios

It was a very pleasant stay. I took my two small dogs with me and all went smooth. The staff was polite, but nobody helped us taking the bagagge upstairs -one of the helper just stared at us but did not offer to help but upon arriving at the door he waited to be tiped.

Hibiscus Beach Pousada - Great Value in Buzios

Staff was outstanding, friendly, and offered excellent service. Breakfast buffet was top-notch. Nice touches like available beach towels and umbrellas plus 24/7 coffee in the breakfast room were especially welcome. Had one maintenance issue while there, but I honestly feel that the staff did all they could to handle and rectify the situation, so no complaints and only positive marks from us.

Great olace to stay in Buzios

This is a wonderful place to stay in Buzios. Esach room is a separate bungalow, and each bungalow has a deck with a view of the sea. Good WiFi service on the deck, so it's a lovely place to catch up on your e-mail. The service is friendly, the rooms comfortable, good breakfsat, good & quick laundry service if you need it. What more cxould you want?

As Good as it Gets !

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in July, and want to recommend it to other people. Its location is perfect, just a short walk to the beach.

We especially liked the fact that the rooms are private cottages, all with a beautiful sea view. Ours was beautifully maintained and very clean. Breakfast was delicious and varied, and the office staff seemed to speak at least five different languages. Although it was the winter low season, the hotel was almost full, so it is probably best to book in advance.

Our stay was a short one, and the only regret was not having more time to see many of the beaches in Buzios, and to relax for longer at Hibiscus Beach.

We´ll be back !

Five Star price at 2 star level

After all I've heard about Buzios, this was a dissapointment during my trip.

The rooms are in bad need of refurbishing.
The hotel was very difficult to locate.

The breakfast offered was very poor, and that is being generous!!

The hot water in the shower lasted no longer than 5 minutes and then it would turn cold.

This hotel did not reach a two star level, but the prices charges (this is \"off season\") where 5 star prices.

To all that might consider this hotel, stay away!!

It was great - friendly staff, cool little bungalows. Breakfast was lovely, location was very chilled but an easy 10min into the centre of town. Best of all, the transfers from Rio were cheap and reliable - we ended up going to Buzios twice and booked our transfer through Hibiscus a second time even though we weren't staying there the second time around - the transfers were far cheaper through them

We had a very good experience at the Hibiscus. Jose Antonio, the taxi driver from Hibiscus was fantastic. When we arrived at the Hibiscus it was the middle of the night, but there was someone to greet us-great. Next morning we had breakfast-adequate, but coffee and tea was luke warm, but fruit and pastries were lovely and you could eat as much as you wanted. Kevan and Alicia were very helpful and sorted anything we wanted. The villa(no 4) was lovely, especially the shower!!! It was quite cold in the villa, but we were visiting in the spring. There is a shuttle bus to take you into the centre of town for about 80pence. There a many restaurants and shops to keep you occupied. We hired a small jeep which allowed us to travel around Buzios-recommend this. Also, head to the Joan Fernandez beach to have freshly cooked fish on the beach-20 pounds for 2- Excellent. We also had lovely coconut and caramel-yum!
The private taxi to and from the airport was quite expensive, but worth it, especially if you get Jose Antonio.
Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

This posada was somewhat rustic, VERY near the beach and close to downtown, without all the noise that a downtown can bring. While not being a 5star hotel, it was clean and fun to stay in.

Excellent Views and Location

The Hibiscus is about 150 km of Rio and airport pick-up and transportation was arranged by the hotel. The hotel is about a 20 min walk to shops and restaurants, and about a 45 min walk into the middle of Buzios. There are lots of mini-buses if you don't want to walk. It was a 3 min walk to the beach. The included breakfast had a an excellent selection. The cottages were private and each had a small deck with an excellent view of the ocean. There was a safe, bar fridge, and TV in the room. The bed was a little hard and the linens and pillows are in need of updating. The pool was perfect for cooling off and the surround had shaded areas to park yourself and read a book (the hotel supplied beach towels). It is a hotel for the able-bodied, as there are many steps up to the lobby area of the hotel, and then a steep walk up to the cottages. There is good wifi in the rooms. We would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Great little pousada

We were generally very satisfied with our short stay at the Hibiscus Beach. The staff were helpful and friendly, although the concierge was out when we arrived so we had to carry our bags up many steps to our bungalow. The hotel was clean, despite the construction work at the front (a deck area was being built.) Breakfast was fine. We'd definitely stay here again.

Nice but disappointing...

The hotel is in a fantastic location, literally a stones throw from a lovely beach and a few little shops and restaurants, (they close early beware)... The actual private bungalow we had was just lovely, the experience of having your very own place with your own veranda is enough to make you want to go back. Unfortunately upon arrival we were greeted by a crew of builders and were subjected to noise, dust and glaring eyes by the swimming pool from 8am - 7pm, not good at all. The service was literally the worst we have ever experienced, it took one and a half hours to bring two beers!! It was a real shame, this place could be sooo great with the right management and more staff - oh and no builders!!

Great place to stay - handy to the beach

Beautiful outlook and very handy to the beach without too much of a climb. Other pousadas in the area were a long way to go. The room was very nice, although the bed was a bit hard, and the pillow quite solid. Very friendly and helpful staff, informative about the area. Great breakfasts too. Cabo Frio well worth the visit. Major town of the area, and the beach was fantastic.

Very, Very Nice Hotel

This was my first time to Buzios – a business trip in August, the southern hemisphere's winter. I stayed at the Hibiscus Beach Pousada for 9 nights and enjoyed every aspect. Each ‘room’ at this pousada is an individual bungalow that is built up a hill-side. One of the nicest beach is a 1 minute walk out the front door. Each bungalow has French doors that open to a small private patio overlooking the sea… Every room has a tremendous view, and as a previous review noted, the higher the room, the better the view (I too was at the top in room #9). The staff was great. English is my only language and I had no problems. They even arranged a car for the 2.5hr ride to the airport in Rio at a rate much cheaper than any other private transportation. The location of the pousada is towards the tip of the Buzios peninsula and is much quieter at night than ‘downtown’. For shopping and nightlife, the walk to down town is a beautiful 10 minute stroll along the waterfront (very safe, even late at night). The rooms were immaculate and comfortable. The free-breakfast was served promptly at 8:30am (and it is a good mix of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and scrambled eggs). I could not get a strong WiFi signal in my room, but it was a pleasure to take my laptop down to the restaurant area to work online. Overall – I cannot imagine a nicer experience in Buzios than the Hibiscus Beach.

The Best of Buzios

Quiet little spot a block from the beach with a great view from your own bungalow. Spacious rooms with a little porch to sit and watch the sun rise or set. The shower was a little tricky to figure out at first but that was the worst of it. Great complimentary breakfast as well. Would definitely recommend for friends looking for a place to stay, couples on a romantic get-a-way, or even for a short family stay!

A pleasant experience.

We arrived ending last June. Rainy season. Welcomed by a warm and friendly staff. Were given Bungalow #5, with lovely sight to the sea. Room was comfortable, and the balcony invited to have drinks staring the wonderful view, or enjoying the warmness of the night. Room's fridge was replenished every day because the appropriate pricing. Adding up to this was the free WiFi internet service. We learn we could not sleep with open windows during damp weather due to mosquito's nuisance, so we closed every opening at night, having running the overhead fan and/or the A/C. Breakfast was the most!. Plenty of tropical fruits, as long as our usual ham and eggs, cereal, etc. Coffee was superb. Nearest beach, Joao Fernandes, was a couple of minutes walk-by, featuring waters crystal clear and colorful vendors. The place is constantly toured by vans that offer transportation. Rates are quite reasonable. Over all, it was a very good election for the price, we recommend this place, and surely next time we will come back to Hibiscus for another stay at Buzios.

Good location with nearby beach & very regular & cheap mini buses into Centro (or scenic 20 min stroll). Reception staff v. helpful & informative. As we had a later flight home, it was no problem to hold onto the room until a bit later as they had availability-really useful. Rooms serviced every day. Breakfast was adequate & if they are low on anything, just ask, the staff are more than happy to help.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

My partner and I enjoyed a short stay at Hibiscus Beach earlier this month. They put us in bungalow 9 which has a fabulous sea view. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they speak good English. Our room was clean, cozy and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious, especially the fresh, tropical fruit. The free Wi-Fi service from our room and balcony was a great plus. The hotel is 100 yards from a lovely beach, and within walking distance of the main strip, Rua das Pedras. We hope to return to Buzios for a longer stay next year, and will definitely stay at Hibiscus Beach. Strongly recommended.

Good value for the view

The staff were friendly and helped out immediately once we found a very new hornet's nest on our balcony. Each room has a great view of the ocean, which is about a 3-minute walk away. The area itself is quite touristy, but then again, all of Buzios is. The breakfast was pretty good, but there mechanism for keeping the eggs warm was pretty lacking. My main qualm with this hotel was our sheets weren't elasticized - our bed had a large sheet draped over it which wouldn't stay on through the course of the night. The other problem was a guard dog in an adjacent property that barked very loudly non-stop throughout the night. Having said that, Brazil tends to be a pretty noisy place, be it music, ad trucks, etc.

My husband and I have spent 03 days at Hibiscus and those days were fantastic!!The hotel staff was very kind and helpful.Our room was clean and clear, the breakfast was excellent and the hotel had a nice swimming pool.The hotel was located on the hill so we had a wonderful view of the ocean and Joao Fernandes Beach.Buzios has many restaurants, bars, and clubs so if you like the nightlife you have a lot to do!The best thing about our days in Buzios - everything. A brilliant hotel with a calm relaxing atmosphere, great facilities including free wireless internet and safe. Help with carrying baggage to/from rooms on arrival and departure. Maid service, clean linen / towels each day. Small, private and adequate pool. Short walk to beach, shops, bars and Buzios centre. Constant mini bus transport available for quick lifts to and from centre - cheap fares. Cosy bungalows, good sea views. Breakfast 8.30 to 11am so no rush in mornings. Mostly English speaking staff who were very helpful and willing to keep bar / snack bar open as long as required in the evening. If transfer required to airport book either regular or private transport here, no better options available. Would recommend a stay here, very relaxing. Conrad and Denise, April 2009

Las vistas, la atención del personal y el desayuno son excelentes. Muy bien ubicado, se va a la playa a pie y el estacionamiento es gratuito.
Las habitaciones están separadas unas de otras y eso esta bueno. La mesa en el balcón mirando al mar tiene mucho encanto.
Hay que tener en cuenta que como la posada está subiendo el morro, hay que subir muchas escaleras.
Recomendaría limpiar o renovar los sommiers y asegurar el sistema para calentar el agua de la ducha, porque es un calefón eléctrico y a mi marido le dió una descarga.

Temos uma criança com deficiência. Fomos colocados em um quarto com acesso um pouco mais difícil, com muitas escadas. Para pessoas idosas, tb pode ser dificultoso. No café da manhã, não tinha mesas suficientes para todos sentarem, tivemos que aguardar.

Tirando isso, a estadia foi boa, fomos bem recebidos e tratados com respeito.

Chegamos ao local num calor de 40graus e nosso ar condicionado com defeito. NAO dormimos a primeira noite. Apos muita negociação deram um desc R$ 250 e no dia seguinte nos trocaram de quarto. A pousada Lotada mas nao tinha uma pessoa da manut de plantao. Nao recomendo.

linda vista, funcionários educados, contudo a pousada parou no tempo, nada de modernização, pousada bem antiga, nitidamente não possui investimentos há anos para sua melhoria, piscina bem antiga com avarias, o bangalô precisando de manutenção , bem antigo, frigobar avariado, cofre ainda de chave , o café da manhã simples, mas dentro do padrão, resumindo a pousada ta em uma excelente localização, tem uma vista maravilhosa, e oferece o básico, pra quem busca apenas uma estada para aproveitar a cidade sem se preocupar com conforto...

Muitas escadas para acesso ao quarto o que dificulta um pouco. Não considero adequado para crianças e idosos.

Ótimo lugar.

Muito boa. A localização é ótima e o quarto é muito confortável, por isso voltamos. Estivemos lá no último Reveillon e vimos algumas melhorias, como o café da manhã e limpeza dos jardins. Entretanto, poderia haver por parte da recepção um melhor senso em relação à ajuda para levar as bagagens, pois a pousada é muito íngreme e somente no check out nos ajudaram. Mesmo assim sem intermédio do rapaz da recepção, que nem esboçou ajudar e nem chamou ninguém. Quem se ofereceu foi um rapaz que já trabalhava lá no Reveillon, não na recepção, que se dispôs a ajudar minha esposa nas escadas.
