Wonderful hotel, wonderful staffs.

The location couldn't be any better, center of Shanghai. The front desk staffs are nice and professional. I dropped my metro card in the lobby and didn't notice until next day. They kept it for me until I came back few days later. Really appreciate that. Thanks a lot.

This historic building has been sensitively restored and the rooms refurbished (evidently quite recently). The location is great. I found my room very comfortable and the bathroom positively luxurious. Very good value for money. The reception desk staff were efficient and helpful. Breakfast was good, except for the coffee. I suggest investing in a good quality self-service coffee machine. The only thing lacking in the hotel was a coffee-shop type place where one could get a light meal, but there are plenty of options in the streets around. I also suggest providing a water-cooler in the lobby where one could refill a reusable bottle, rather than providing bottled water in the rooms: I believe the sort of people who stay here would want to be environmentally friendly.

Location is close to People Square 20 minutes walk, subway station #8 around the corner. Hotel itself is dated, but the room was very comfortable.
With a bit more money would rather stay in a more modern hotel,closer to the center with breakfasts included and English speaking restaurant staff.

Great location, beautiful lobby, pleasant room (furnishing), and pleasant front desk and cleaning staff. BUT, they are super stingy with air conditioning! The evening we checked in, there's no AC in the room at all. No matter what temperature we set the thermostat at, the room temp always registered at 74F. It might be an OK temp to sit around in, but def not what we'd want to be sleeping in under the lush feather bedding provided. Shutting off the air and opening the windows didn't help to cool down the room either, and only made it more humid. Turns out, the hotel had shut off AC because of the season change (it's Oct.) despite the fact that the day time outdoor temp is in the mid-70's the whole time we were there. The days after our complaint, we noticed that the air did get cool at some point during the day, but only for a few hours at a time. I'm sorry... if I'm paying a decent price to stay at a hotel , I expect to be able to set my own room temperature. This is not something the property management should dictate. I need that option.

The Metropolo has a great location just steps for a Metro station. The staff was excellent and the room was clean and very comfortable.

The hotel is 2 steps away from Da Shi jie Metro station and its effortless to find. However, it is quite shocking that they do not turn on the Air conditioning system due to the chill weather. The entire room lack of air flow and turned out humid. We found at least 4 mosquitoes inside the room flying around.

This hotel was really nice for the price. Stayed in the month of February and the room temperature was very comfortable. Room and bath were very clean and beds were very comfortable. The Metro station was literally around the corner from the entrance to the hotel. Lots of restaurant options in the area.

This hotel was built in the 1930s and The ceiling of the lobby still preserve the painting of that time. My friend said that it was a hot spot for celebrities, Mui Lan Fong, for exemple. The hotel takes its security extremely seriously because the customer cannot use his/ her hotel card to go to a different floor other than his/her own floor. It is also convenient located near a subway station, and restaurants.

The hotel is a historical YMCA building. The name is a bit confusing online as some time it refers as YMCA hotel etc. The location itself is full of history and right next to one of the CBD in Shanghai. The hotel condition and services are in-par with the similar hotels in Shanghai.

Good value but slightly overpriced

I stayed at the Jinjiang Metropolo 2 years ago. It is logistically perfect, just above the
Dashijie metro station. It takes 5 minutes to get there. Two years ago the hotel price
was competitive and reasonable. Now they have put up their prices significantly with
no visible improvement in comfort or cleanliness.

I chose the Jinjiang Metropolo mainly for its location and for its friendly staff.
It is 5 minutes to Dashijie Metro station which is linked to all other main lines.
I first stayed there 2 years ago but unfortunately the hotel has put up its prices
quite significantly. Hopefully it will reduce its rates to those of 2 years ago to better
reflect its comfort level and quality of service.

A budget version of Fairmount Peace Hotel

The hotel is historical site where the YMCA was during the 1920/30s. The room was a bit small with a heritage flare. Wi-Fi was a bit weak and couldn't access most foreign sites. Breakfast was great though, at a bargain of 50 yuan. For a truly grand old Shanghai experience you must stay at the Fairmount Peace Hotel, but for a fraction of the cost try this one out.

Perfect location; almost perfect stay

This hotel is right next to the Dashijie stop on the No. 8 subway and a 10 minute walk away from People's Square and its three subway lines. It's also across the street from People's Park, a 5 minute walk to the Shanghai Museum, right next to a variety of small restaurants and bars and and within easy walking distance of the fancy Xintiandi area. You couldn't ask for more convenience, at an amazingly reasonable price. The hotel does many little things well: the outlets in the rooms are universal, so plugs from any country work without an adapter; the breakfast options (both Chinese and western) are not vast but are high quality; and my room was updated and spacious with a great little sitting area. Having said all this, one big problem: the hotel had closed its business center (perhaps because of renovations), and the front desk could only offer to print from a printer with very low print quality. That's unacceptable in a hotel these days.

Great location, good value

Best location in bund area -- it has very convenient location. We can walk to many tourist sites. Subway station is right below hotel. There are tons of good eating places on the street right behind the hotel. A few shopping malls including name brands within one block.

Room is spacious and comfortable. We got all supplies needed including robes and slippers. Shower was nice and strong including a waterfall shower and hand held shower.

Staff was very courteous and helpful. We felt welcome!

Facilities are a little aged, but very clean and well kept. I will definitely stay here again. You cannot go wrong with this hotel if you want a nice comfortable place without paying a lot.

OK Hotel, Disappointing Staff

I stayed here a while back, and decided to try again. The stay was OK, but a little trouble with English at the front desk sometimes. The main reason I will never book this hotel again is the staff. Once you are checked out, they do no longer care about any detail. The front desk had the front doorman call a sketchy looking taxi. The taxi took a very long, indirect route to the airport, almost doubling my fare. On top of that, the taxi driver refused to give me a receipt, and in my rush, I accidentally dropped my phone. When attempting to call the hotel to find what company the driver might be from, instead of any amount of concern, the front desk sounded annoyed that I even bothered to ask them where they called the taxi from, and that they couldn't help me.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was clean and comfortable, and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

My room was advertised on Expedia as having a view. I think this just meant that it had a window, as the 'view' was an alleyway and side of another building. That said, I still thought the hotel was good value for money.

Stayed for 4 nights on my first trip to China. Quite happy with room - good sized, quiet and clean. Only had one breakfast - which seemed a little overpriced for what I had.

Staff quite friendly. Didn't use any of the hotel facilities (e.g. gym) so can't comment on them.

Location seemed OK - 10 minute walk to Nanjing Road - the Bund not that much further. Good eating in the immediate vicinity.

this was our first time to this hotel but we have been to Shanghai many times. This hotel turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The beds were not hard like you usually find in asia in this price range, bathroom had a great shower, location was central, the staff were very helpful and overall it represented great value for money in a prime location adjacent to peoples square. The internet is almost a waste of time as it was very slow. this hotel is a very old building which is shwing its age but overall the room and faciliies were great

Great location in Shanghai. Only few min walk to the Metro and walking distance to major sights and good restaurants. The staff was super helpful and friendly.
Breakfast (Western and Chinese) was good. Big and quiet room with comfortable bed and large bathroom. Our room was newly renovated but it seemed some rooms were still under renovation.

Mostly we loved this place, like a small apartment and in a classical style. However, we were pretty upset when we went to bed - late and tired, and found the sheets and pillows reeked of cigarette smoke. Apparently, they just took out the ashtrays and gave us a smoking room - pretending it was non-smoking. Not acceptable. But, like so many hotels in Asia, they don't respect non-smokers and have almost no rooms for us.

Good choice if you have a small budget

I chose this hotel for all the good reviews I read and because the price was really good compare to other hotels in shanghai. It's a really expensive city so this hotel is a good compromise but if you are looking for a really nice accomodation or international hotel servises go somewhere else. The room was clean but really small. The lobby was small and not really welcoming, staff don't speak good english as you expect from hotels staff. Position is good.

I really like this hotel. My mom and I stayed in a room with 2 twin beds. The room is clean and lovely. Even though renovation was going on in the day and on my floor, we hardly heard a noise. The breakfast was nice. It included western and Chinese foods. The location is so central to all the places of attraction. The metro is just next door. I would stay here again. My only complain is that the bathroom door is not completely frosted or opaque. It has streaks of clear glass, which affected privacy. I wish the hotel had made a better choice for the bathroom door. It's okay if you're a couple staying there, but not when you're with family members. Of course you can turn off the lights in the bathroom, but who would use the bathroom in the dark. Still, I rate this hotel highly.

Nice hotel, helpful staff, great location; close to subway line 8; lots of shops around; Starbucks at the corner; small local restaurants and stands in the small streets around if you want more local experience; do not recommend walking with your luggage from people's square as you need to climb stairs to cross the road. Without luggage it is a nice walk to huai hai rd, people's square, Shanghai museum. Breakfast at the hotel is ok or look for local food at the stands around.

we stayed here in 2 separate times. Staffs were all very pleasant & helpful.Room little bit small but very comfortable & clean. Really no smoking on nonsmoking floor. Very close to subway just around the corners, walking distance to Nanjian pedestrian street & the Bunt. Food street just behind the hotel. Check in on 2nd floor but has bus boy took our luggage there via elevator. Little problem with 1 elevator but they fixed it quick.

Overall decent hotel. However, check-in took almost 45 minutes. There were only 2 hotel front desk staff, both of them were running around not knowing what to do. Then they told us our room wasn't ready yet and only smoking room was available. After much waiting they finally agreed to let us use the smoking room first and to notify us when a non-smoking room became available. On our last day, the staff refused to allow us a 1 hour delay in check-out since our flight was in the evening. For a premiere hotel that prides itself on guest services, I didn't feel that my stay was valued.

The room itself was spacious, well designed, and had a large comfortable bed and good sized bathroom with modern amenities. However, cleanliness could be improved. As soon as we came in, we noticed a unidentifiable BROWN STAIN on the throw laid on the bed. We were also a lot of dents in the furniture that were not painted in, which made the room look a bit aged. On our last night we found a COCKROACH on our pillow!!! Totally grossed out. Not sure what to say about that. We didn't make a make fuss about it but the place definitely needs better house keeping.

Perfect down town hotel. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful with excellent English. The room was lovely. It is an old building and parts a little dark but beautiful. Did not eat there because there was renovations taking place in the restaurant but there was plenty of places around. Definitely a good choice, would have no hesitation in staying again.

Nice Location, Bad Condition

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights. Located in a nice part of Shanghai near restaurants, shopping, and the Metro line, it is an old building that needs some upgrading. Our room was small with a window to an outside wall. The staff was not very friendly or helpful, and the price we paid seemed high for such poor service and comfort. However, the restaurant (when open) served delicious food.

Old Shanghai costs a fraction of Fairmount Peace

This is an interesting heritage property: the original YMCA back in the Old Shanghai days. The room is recently renovated to 4-star standard so do not be scared by the dark and dated lobby. Chinese breakfast with western dishes here and there costs only 50yuan (USD 6) and will feed you well for the rest of the day. Close enough to the subway and a huge shopping mall (incl British department store Marks and Spencer) nearby.

I had a really pleasant stay at the hotel. My only complaint is that I had requested for a non-smoking room. However, it was only a request that was not guaranteed by Hotels.com. The staff was pleasant and helpful and the location was fantastic. The hotel does reek of smoke, so if you are sensitive towards smoke, this is not the place for you.

Jinjiang hotel - SOLO travel

I booked this hotel through Hotels.com, and i didn't find any problem with it. The room which i had was at 5th floor, and it was very clean and comfortable. As far as the condition of the room, it was flawless and worth the price i paid. The only thing which disappointed me was that my room had no view, I told them to give me the room in a higher floor with good view. They did gave me room in a higher floor, however, my room view was to the back of the hotel.

The only thing this hotel need to improve is their check-out and check-in time. The check in time for this hotel is 1PM, and they should accommodate an early check-in time for those who wish to check-in early without additional charge/fees.

The location was very convenient, it was close to everywhere, the metro station was just 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel and it is in the centre of shanghai, around the hotel you can find a lot of big shopping mall, cinema, museum. And just next to the hotel, there is starbucks coffee shop and variety of ATM bank(ICBC, Bank of China ETC), 7eleven, family mart.

Metropolo Hotel...pleasant & comfortable stay.

After staying for 3 nights at the Marriott Pudong I just wanted to move in a different area and chose this hotel from the Hotels.com website. When I was dropped by the taxi at its entrance I thought that I had made a wrong decision by choosing this hotel. This feeling was aggravated when I entered the dim lit old Chinese styled hotel lobby. However the reception staff was courteous and she could speak relatively good english which put me at ease. I was given a room on the 6th floor and once I was on that level I felt relieved as it was clean and appears to have been recently renovated. The room also must has been recently renovated...it was spacious, clean with a good toilet, bathroom and bathtub.
Bed was comfortable and I enjoyed the rest of my stay over there. The ABC bank on the street level next to the hotel is very convenient for currency exchange and it is a 15 minutes walking distance to the Nanjing Pedestrian Street on one side and the Shanghai Times Square on the other side with good shopping facilities. The taxi fare is about RMB 250 to the airport.
Price wise it was very good value for money and I'll definitely book there again on my next trip.

excellent location, room and bed!

hotel is close to many eateries and just a few steps away from the metro station. Excellent location!
the room is comfy and the bed is extremely good for my back (I have back injury) they use chiropractic approved beds for guests. Something I feel is a definite plus point.
