Room and fittings were a little dated and the amenities limited, particularly the elevators. However, the front desk and restaurant staff in the hotel were extremely polite, friendly and accommodating and the location was ideal for first-time visitors to Shanghai.

Location was very good and near to attractions, with good tea and coffee at the lobby. take note that the room was we had was very cold thou (18c max in winter) and the bathroom door could not be closed, The hotel tried, but could not fix the situation, nor change rooms maybe due to high occupancy. Overall still a nice place.

I stayed in November, 2025. The front desk staff were amazing, especially Alan, who helped me with technology issues.

The room was nice and clean. There was soap, shampoo, bodywash. There was a kettle, but no safe. The AC wasn't working but I got a fan, which worked well.

It looked like the shower had leaked at one point, as the floor on the room-side of the shower was 'crunchy' (had some give when I walked on it).

There was water and some cans of pop in the fridge, and teas and coffee.

The room (1703) was quiet. There was construction across the street, but I didn't really hear it.

I tried to go to the spa on numerous occasions, but it was never open/the women in the spa waved me away.

The metro station was about a 5 minute walk, and YuYuen garden was a little further.

Also, the hotel is not accessible. There is a steep ramp in the front for luggage, but otherwise, there are stairs that must be navigated.

There was a good variety of western and Chinese foods for breakfast.

I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Clean room and helpful staff. Hotel is a short walk from Yu Gardens Metro station (line 10 or 14) exit 4, once out from exit 4, turn left and hotel is 1 block away. Only 10 minutes walk to Yu Garden. Room don’t have safe box, need to ask and they will bring one to the room.

This is my second time staying at SSAW Hotel! I’ve stayed at both their Shanghai and Hongkou branches, and both experiences were amazing. The rooms are very clean, and the service is excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Shanghai. It’s in a great location and conveniently close to the metro.

The room was clean, however, the kettle was not. There was a thick lime scale at the bottle of the kettle and was not clean for the next user. I tried to clean it by scrapping but the kettle got worst that I dared not use it for boiling.

Breakfast had a large variety of options, asian and western. Property was beside a metro station which made getting around the city easy. The Bund was a short walk and so was Nanjing Rd. The shopping area to the north on Huahai Rd was a 10 minute walk. Definitely a great location.

I can’t understand how a hotel cannot allow guests to use air conditioning. Room was too hot and couldn’t sleep well.
Only opening gym at 9am makes no sense. Many need the gym early before breakfast and going to work. 6am at least.
If a hotel puts hard floors in their rooms it means they haven’t stayed in their own rooms to experience how loud hard floors sound from the people above. Loud all night and couldn’t sleep. It may look nice but they are impractical.

I absolutely loved my stay here in China. The hotel's location was fantastic and having a small convenience store right next to it was very helpful. The room I stayed in was great with no issues and a fantastic View. The staff was absolutely amazing and very helpful. They assisted me with obtaining items I needed as well as assisting me in receiving packages from friends. The hotel itself is well as the meals it offered were all amazingly affordable. The meals were also very delicious as well as very high quality. Staying here really allowed me to enjoy my trip to China. I plan on returning in the future.

This hotel is perfect for those wanting to explore Shanghai or get rail links to further afield. There is building work going on in the area but there is in most of the city. Staff were very helpful and the food in the restaurant was tasty and plentiful. Rooms were very clean and supplied with toiletries, robes and slippers to make our stay more comfortable.

Breakfast changed each day and was very tasty but the quality itself was quite average, but totally above average for the low price of the hotel.
Bathroom did have some mould but mostly not a problem. Amazing towels and hairdryer.
Absolute loveliest cleaning and kitchen staff, limited English but so sweet and kind and helpful.

My second time staying here & have enjoyed both times! The rooms are surprisingly spacious for Shanghai – no cramped vibes at all. Staff were super friendly and made check-in/out a breeze.

The rooftop terrace is a major win with good city views. While it's not right on the Bund, it's an easy 15-min walk to Nanjing Road and the action (plus you're in a more local area with great food options). Not far from Yu yuan garden too which is a bonus.

Perfect for travelers who want a relaxed stay with easy access to Shanghai's hotspots.

Thai influenced styling throughout the hotel. The staff were so lovely and helpful and the hotel was super clean and well-appointed. Looked newly refurbished. Had a massage at the spa and it was great. It’s on a main road but with the windows closed it’s very quiet. A short walk to Yuyuan Gardens and mall area and in to other direction down Huaihai Rd there is a high-end shopping area. Highly recommend!

The good: We had a large suite and the room was spacious and had multiple windows which was super nice, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom had a trellis rather than a door but the toilet/shower/bath were all separate so that worked. Staff helpful and nice, room came with free water every day and a coke/sprite in the room too. Breakfast caters for a lot of different people, it was chaotic and busy, but fine, coffee was decent. Also got some free beer vouchers which was a very nice touch, enjoyed those on the 4th floor rooftop.

Negatives: The noise from the building works, day and night there was a lot of building works going on nearby the hotel and i was woken up often due to this. The room had a smell of drains which just didn't seem to go, if the door to the bathroom was more solid it might not have been an issue, but the smell was bad and we couldn't get away from it, also the plug needed replacing in the bath as it leaked more than it filled

Nice views, great dinning facilities, Free laundry, Really close to the subway. You can get anywhere ( the airport, The Bund, Disney ) fast!. The bed was medium soft, just right, plenty of pillows, refrigerator, hair dryer, shampoo and soaps, large TV, 49 channels of state run programming ( Think PBS only 40 stations ) I'd return in a heartbeat.

This hotel had a downside on everything. For example, the room was big and pretty, but unkept and noisy. The restaurant has a great view, but with terrible service. I could go on, but at the end of the day, simply choose elsewhere to stay.

Great location. Metro was close by and many attractions were within walking distance. Hotel room towels and dressing gown felt luxurious. Complimentary bottled water was provided which was a bonus. One slight inconvenience was lack of English speaking receptionist.

Nice big room with huge bathroom that have his and hers sink, a bathtub, separate shower and wc. Bath salt and moisturizing facial mask was provided

Great for leisure and holiday with a partner

I like how convenient the location of the hotel is and the cleaning lady was very friendly.

However, there was extremely strong smell of disinfectant when I entered the room, and during my two-night stay I was bothered by the odor from the toilet.

Moreover, there was a couple of stairs in front of the hotel door. I was trying to pull my large and heavy luggage through the slope next to the stairs, but it was so hard because the slope is too steep. I didn't get help from the lobby guy until I fell over with my luggage bag.

The property exceeded my expectations. It’s located in the heart of downtown Shanghai, within walking distance to all the tourist spots and local restaurants. Breakfast buffet is wonderful and bottled waters are full. Very nice English- speaking staff. I will stay at this hotel next time I visit Shanghai. Highly recommended.

The hotel was spacious and in a very convenient neighborhood. Easy commute/distance from popular places like nanjing road and yu garden. The room we got though gets loud in the morning due to constructions happening outside. But since, my mom and I were up early everyday anyways it wasnt much of a problem for us.

Property is well situated in the Bund area, walkable to Yu Yuan and the Bund. Hotel has no drop off zone so it’s challenging to navigate luggages upon arrival and at departure. No door staff to assist with luggages up the front steps. Across the street, there is some construction happening which makes it very noisy during the day. Our stateroom was not cleaned well. Mildew around faucet, edges of shower, higher windows very dirty. Breakfast had a large variety of food items. The restaurant (where breakfast buffet is served) did not seem utilized much. When we tried it, it was understaffed, requiring a long wait for our order (300-40 min).
