Beautiful hotel and spa along a peaceful stretch of the river, within walking distance of many sites to see in Chiang Mai. Friendly and helpful staff, soft and comfortable sheets and pillows, and quiet places to sit outside!

Pool area up the top very average and the bottom pool was not really up to the standard as per the pictures on Expedia. The overall location is a little outside the main location of everything. Breakfast was very good

Overall a pleasant stay, however the hote could use a renovation. The rooftop pool in particular, the decking wood by the pool is badly worn. The wooden steps into the pool, is a hazard as the wood is ragged.

Again at our favorite hotel in Chiang Mai

It is the third or fourth time we stayed at this hotel although about two years ago was the last time. Nice to be recognized by the staff to start with. The hotel has a limited number of rooms - 20 at the most. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Ping river - the same one as last time, so I didn't take room pics. The room is mostly in white. Bed is very comfortable: I always sleep very well here. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the restaurant is copious with a selection of 4 different choices. The menus have changed and I think the restaurant is now run by a different team or company. Less Western food, but excellent and less pricy Thai food (I did however miss the masaman curry that used to be on the menu).
The only disappointment was the swimming pool: they were still working on the one on the roof (well, it did need work) and the 'pool' in the garden is deep enough but very short, and there is no shower.

Lovely hotel

We loved the room and the balcony, and the restaurant was magical in the evening. Shame the rooftop bar wasn't aoen due to the rain season as we'd been lead to believe it was. Would definitely stay here again.

I paid for the river view but it turned out a view blocked by trees and roof. Anyway, the room design and bed were comfortable and good for a long rest. The terrace was also very nice.

Wonderful breakfast!

The hotel design is nice and the best part was the my time spent at breakfast, good food, friendly service & nice ambience. The only less pleasant part was the cleanliness of the room, found a few dirty towels during my stay and a dirty bed sheet upon arrival. Other than that minor issue, this is a good hotel with friendly staff. Not centrally located, but I would anyone to take the red bus to downtown, as a tourist one must always negotiate the bus fare. Must check out the hidden oasis (wee cafe) on the opposite side of the hotel, such a nice place.

Quiet place to rest and relax beside Ping river.

A cosy hotel away from the busy city where one can sit beside the river to have a quiet and relaxing meal. Yet it is a short walk to the Night Bazaar and is a convenient spot to the other places of interest.

Hotel is close to some great restaurants.

Reception staff were very helpful and English was very easy understood which help. Breakfast service was very good, food was Satisfactory but made up by good service and friendly services.
My TV's life was coming to an end -- the colour fades after about 20 mins viewing (I should have alerted the Staff)

Stayed here for two nights. The place itself is great but doesn't look like the pictures. It really needs some updating as far as the rooftop goes. It's in quite a random area on a really rough and bumpy street but once you get out you can see the beauty of chiang mai. Service was excellent they really went above and beyond.

Luxe rooms, stylish and exclusive vibe

This hotel exceeded our expectations. We travel 200 days a year and this is one of our favorites of this year. Beautiful rooms with very thoughtful features. High end finishes, riverfront location and easy walking access to better restaurants and shops. The staff are gracious, attentive and proactive in their service. They handled every request quickly and with a high-touch feel. Every night, we felt like we were coming home. Warm welcomes, bright smiles and pleasant surprises.
If you're going to Chiang Mai, this hotel should be on your shortlist and is a real value.

The river view room is marvelous! Especially we love the big balcony, so that we can enjoy take-away Thai food with the nice busy view without messing up the room.
The hotel restaurant is so excellent that we had five meals.

Simple luxury on the Ping River

I had a spacious, well-appointed room on the third floor overlooking the river. Great bed, wonderful big soaker tub, and excellent shower. Service everywhere was exemplary. My breakfast was included and I enjoyed both the garden setting or sitting inside when it was so hot that I wanted aircon. The rooftop pool provided a refreshing dip and was big enough to do short laps. Lovely shops and tea house are all a few steps from the hotel.

Lovely hotel in a special neighborhood

Sala Lanna is a small hotel but very lovely situated in a non-touristy neighborhood with good shopping. One staff in particular was very friendly and patient and explained the neighborhood/city to us. Other staff we met had limited English and thus less interaction. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated, though if you prefer quiet, be sure to choose a room that is not facing the street where there is traffic throughout the night.

The breakfast was nice with a good selection and quality of food. You can enjoy it in the outdoor dining area situated along the river which was quite peaceful.

A bonus for us was the neighborhood shopping - we loved the silk store down the street. All in all, it is a great boutique hotel for those who want to be outside the city wall but within a short drive away.

Small hotel in chiang mai

The breakfast and the neighborhood are the best thing of the hotel.
However, this hotel is quiet small, quiet expensive price , very small room and really bad swimming pool. this is not a very good experience staying in this hotel.

i pretty sure i won't stay again.

Fine hotel but go out for dinner

Terrible experience in the restaurant (at dinner only). Service was so slow that we canceled our main courses and left.
Our room had an enormous lanai with a huge couch. However, on day 2 we awoke to discover animal scat all over the couch and floor of the lanai (which the staff identified as being from a squirrel, indicating that they were familiar with the problem).
Centrally located--a bit too. Very busy with much traffic in the early morning.
On the plus side the room was spacious, the bed good and the staff was very helpful and responsive. Meals other than the one dinner (breakfast) were excellent. And there is an interesting rooftop terrace bar.

Bohemian Luxury CM style

We genuinely enjoyed the 2 bedroom villa w. adjoining pool at Sala Lanna for the 3 days we were in Chiang Mai. The location was cool, lots of restaurant choices, art galleries, and the hotel itself was a true gem (decor, proximity, waterfront, private outdoor space, service requests et al). The villa is uber spacious and incredibly comfortable for a family of four. We loved the swank factor and would recommend over any large non-boutique hotel (not our style). You can walk or tuk tuk to most city sites and the Ping River is right outside your door. Fantastic option.

Myself and my fiancee stayed for 4 nights here. Cannot fault it at all! The rooms are fabulous. We stayed in both a standard and deluxe room. If your budget can afford the deluxe room then I would totally recomend that. Its out of this world. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Food is amazing. I know its strange to eat at an Italian restaurant in Thailand but we couldn't help it, the food was delicious. Pretty central to most attractions and you can get taxis. Cannot recommend it enough and will definitely be back!! Thanks sala lanna!

Perfect boutique hotel in town

It's a very good experience to stay in such a nice hotel. The hotel is very new, opened for only one year. I got free upgrade to the room with balcony and river view. The room was spacious, clean and tidy. I love they served a plate of fresh fruits on the table when I got my room. The room had a bathtub and they offered bathing salt! The staff there were very friendly and they could speak great English. The breakfast was just outstanding. I chose English breakfast set and waffle with side dishes during my stay, they were all very nicely cooked. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

And they say this is a brand new hotel!

HOTEL - Supposed to be brand new but cheap construction is already showing through. Bathroom walls painted instead of tiled and there are substantial water stains. Thin wall/window construction when room fronts a major road. Bare concrete floor does not look hip just looks cheap. Dim staircase lights is a lawsuit waiting to happen. There is actually a nice pool in the rooftop, but you wont want to swim there asthere is no landscaping around pool. LOCATION - Just okay. A bit far from old town (15 min walk). Fairly near to night market (read: tourist trap). Nice river in the back, albeit there is a giant run-down building on the opposite bank. Sidewalk missing in certain parts so you will have to walk about 200 meters on a busy road to the hotel. I wont be doing that with kids. There are some restaurants nearby -- the hotel itself has a good restaurant which serves Thai food. Beautifully presented too. Avoid the Gallery Restaurant nearby - grossly inflated prices, long wait, wrong orders, and untasty mush trying to pass off as a fish. SERVICE - This is the redeeming quality. 6 star service from the receptionists who also double-up as bellboy, concierge. Friendly, helpful, proactive, genuinely concerned over our well-being. Saw me with an empty carton box? Masking tape and scissors automatically produced without the need for me asking. OVERALL - I was about to rate this 3 out of 5. One extra point for the stellar service. Final rating 4.0

Very Nice homely feel stay. Huge new rooms.

Superb (all) staff and hotel condition. Adjacent restaurants to hotel are excellent. We had a ground floor room with no view, but the excellent room/building design gave us a bright outdoor 'room on a pond' feel. Loved the water lotus flower that bloomed every morning in the pond. Breakfast menu was great. Hotel is opposite side of River to the fun/interesting Wororot markets. Great for a morning visit/walk.

Hôtel de luxe dans un écrin de verdure et de calme

Nous avons passé un séjour extraordinaire à l’hôtel Sala Lanna de Chiang Mai. Si seulement nous pouvions y revenir plus souvent (mais cela fait un peu loin depuis Paris !). Le personnel était souriant, attentionné, prévenant avec notre enfant. La suite était magnifique, la décoration luxueuse et élégante, j’ai apprécié la vaisselle et objets en céramique issus de l’artisanat local. Nous n’avons jamais aussi bien dormi. Le lit pour bébé était de très bonne qualité également et douillet. Nous avons amplement profité de la piscine du rooftop de l’hôtel et des canapés confortables, serviettes moelleuses, musique lounge et délicieux cocktails dignes des meilleurs bar de Paris. La vue est imprenable sur la montagne, la rivière et les couchés de soleil. L’espace proche de la rivière (restaurant et piscine) est d’un charmant ! Vraiment un petit coin de paradis, nous n’avions plus envie de partir ! L’hôtel est aussi très bien situé car, bien qu’à l’extérieur de la ville, entouré par de super resto et boutiques pas touristiques. Encore merci à toute l’équipe de l’hôtel pour sa gentillesse et son amabilité !
