Perhaps the best central location in Khao Lak.

A very relaxing hotel.

Only 3 minutes walk to numerous restaurants cafes. Also a short easy walk to the beach and local markets.

If your after a stay to just relax and enjoy the best of Khao Lak, then this is your hotel!!

Would stay again and again!!

I was so disappointed by this hotel. It wasn't definitely not worth the money. The don't usually write bad reviews unless I have to but the hotel was sub standard and I found the staff rude and unfriendly. I wish I had researched the hotel more before booking as I can now see the many have had a similar experience. It's not hard to be nice, friendly and provide a good service but they failed. The photos also do not live up to the experience when you get to the hotel.

Koh lak is a nice place but the waters isn't. They must do better and I will not be returning nor will I recommend to anyone to go here!

This is a lovely hotel with pools everywhere! It's definitely worth paying extra to get a room on ground level with direct pool access.We were there in off season and they were reasonable value, they look pretty expensive in high season though.
Unfortunately the main pool was empty when we were there as they were renovating the pool and surrounding area which ruined the experience somewhat.
We would ould given 5 stars if the pool was full of water 😀
The staff were very friendly, we appreciated an early check in, and the included breakfast was reasonable.
There are loads of restaurants, bars, and massage places within 5 mins walk.

This resort would be absolutely ideal for families with young children. The number of pools and access from the water access apartments is ideal.

The rooms are just starting to show their age a little and some areas could benefit from a deep clean and recondition, but overall this place was great and the staff were brilliant.

Made a confirmed reservation for a Bay Romance room for its bathtub-in-the-room concept but when I arrived, I was told that it was not available as the wing was under renovation.
Initially, I was told an impressive reason that I was given an upgrade to a pool access room but when I probed, I was told that there was no bathtub in the room. I mentioned that my decision to book Waters was because of the bathtub-in-the-room. I was then told that only the 2 bedder has it. I was brought to the room but the bathtub was a normal one.
Very disappointed experience.

Great location, beautiful with friendly staff.

This hotel had everything we could have asked for. Not being the correct season for the beach in this area (monsoon) the pools were brilliant for our family (older/taller children who can swim). The only negative was the bottom of the pool, this was a little rough in places and all of us lacerated our toes at various times, I had to buy the kids water shoes in the end. The pool is deep enough to stand (I’m 165cm) and it came up to my chest. Possibly not great for younger children as they would be swimming the whole time rather than standing.

The staff were friendly and the breakfasts was plentiful, if it something wasn’t on that day they the staff would happily make it for you. We chose B&B and def made the right choice, the restaurant is an Italian style and although pleasant it would have been a shame to be tied down, especially with the low prices to eat out in the area. The Bang Niang market is minuets walk away, as is the beach and a plethora of restaurants, shops and massage opportunities, we had multiple family massages, 3 generations.

The hotel provided a wheelchair for one of our party due to accessibility needs and this was relatively easy to navigate around the complex. Going off site with this was a little trickier, the paths in the area are not always well tended and we often pushed on the road. All in all I would return to this property.

The good: Breakfast was OK. The pool areas were great. Gym was good (for a hotel gym). Bed was comfortable, room was clean and pillows were OK. Rooms were cleaned and serviced everyday. The hotel had free parking and every shop/resteraunt you could ever need including the beach is a 5 mintue walk.

The Bad: Gym had no air conditioning. WiFi was unreliable. After my third attempt to make a bank transfer I had to go to a nearby cafe and use their WiFi. The Air Conditioner wasn't fantastic, it was good enough to get to sleep but the room was never comfortable. The showers hot water runs hot/cold which makes for a very unhappy shower. The toilets are western, but you can't flush toilet paper down, have to use a nearby bin. The photos of the rooms \"conveniently\" omit the sign advising the toilet style.

The Worst: Each night, around 10pm and lasting to anywhere from 10:30pm to Midnight, the nearby bar starts the live music which for any light to medium sleepers would keep you awake. Our room had ZERO noise insulation. The hotel outright stole from us at the bar. She paid in cash, however the hotel then tried to charge us on checkout for the drinks. They let us go, telling us everything was OK and we wouldn't be charged. A day later we noticed my credit card had being charged for the amount of the drinks. This is straight up, no way to avoid it, stealing and theft by the hotel. I never authorised the credit card transaction.

4th visit and we'll be back

This was our 4th visit to the waters and god willing we will be going back. We can't fault anything. Its not beach front but only a short walk and with the amount of pool area it no problem. The location is great due to the amout of small restaurants and bars nearby. We always feel a bit guilty for not making use of the hotel dining room in the evenings but we like to eat out in the previously mentioned local places.

Our room 212 looked out to a wall & a yard where staff collected their supplies for the day. We were only stopping for 1 week, so wasn’t too bothered. Beach was 10 minutes away and no facilities, which was a bit disappointing. Staff were outstanding, friendly and very helpful.

Location - close to the beach and the hotel also offer a shuttle service to a bigger beach which is more comfortable

Overall we had a pleasant stay with no real grumbles. Would we return? Mmm I think there are far nicer hotels for a similar price so whilst we would certainly return to Khao Lak I think we wouldn’t be in a hurry to return to the Waters (unless the price was right)

We had 10 days in a pool access downstairs room the room was a very good size but lacked a comfortable seating area.The breakfast was very good and plentyful we ate in the resaurant a couple of times and it was good and the prices were ok there are plenty of restaurants and bars around at a very good price
We were there at the start of the wet season so most of the attractions were closing for the season if its quiet you want it is ideal then.

This is one of those resorts where the pictures paint a very different picture than the reality, which was rather grim. It feels very much like a resort from the 80s and pools are set between gravel concrete slabs.

My room was a pool access room but actually was not private at all since the room above also has access to the pool entrance right by your terrace, so be prepared for zero privacy on your balcony and the pool in front of it.

The room needed paint in various places on the wall and had an old fake leather couch in it. The shower was massive but had a tiny little head that would no longer stay in place and sprayed to the side.

Hotel completely overcharged on the taxi from the airport - do not use them. More than double the actual rate!

Drinks at the bar were extremely expensive - 400 Baht for a double gin and tonic.

The spa was the stuff of nightmares! Looks more like a repurposed hall. Old brown, cracked leather couches and dark dingy rooms. Massage therapist was winging it and was clearly untrained and inexperienced. Prices about 6 times more than outside.

Located in the middle of nowhere in an unsavoury area.

AVOID.

This resort is superb. Although the New Year gala buffet needs major improvement and better management, this resort is excellent and exemplary. The staff are a credit to the Resort, they are without exception unfailingly polite and friendly. Everything about this resort is exemplary from the amenities, the clean tidy and modern comfortable rooms, the attractive and delicious breakfast buffet, and the appealing and inviting pool layout through the resort. It is very close to a gorgeous golden sand turquoise waters beach and the town with a variety of quality eateries. Any negative comments here are entirely inaccurate and unfair. This resort is quality and the guest experience superior. I wholeheartedly endorse The Waters.

Fabulous!

This is one of the nicest resorts I have stayed in! My husband & I spent 6 nights in a waters pool room, with direct access to a massive pool. The room was exactly as depicted in the images, as was the rest of the resort. The staff are friendly, polite and professional. The location is close to a good range of terrific bars & restaurants, as well a just a short walk to the beach and markets. Breakfast in the resort restaurant was excellent. If you're visiting Khao Lak, definitely consider this resort - you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to return!!

Recommended, but not for young families.

Enjoyable stay in a very comfortable resort. We made use of a couple of the seven pools and the fact that the pools and rooms were so spread out gave an air of spaciousness and relaxation. It was predominantly adults there and it's OK for older kids like ours but I wouldn't recommend the Waters to young families; there are literally no kids' facilities.

The location was fine, a few minutes to the beach and Bang Niang Market.plenty of restaurants and bars and an oversupply of massage facilities could also be found very close by.

We were upgraded to an upper pool room with a very pleasant balcony. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom, despite not having a bathtub, to my daughter's disappointment, was spacious.

At low season prices the resort was good value. I've stayed in Khao Lak several times and this was the best place I've stayed in.

I'd have liked the breakfast menu to change a little more but if that's my only complaint then the place definitely warrants a top rating from me.

Travelling there in December was relatively warm. Check-in was a good experience and shown to our room with knowledgeable staff of how the facilities in the room worked. Booking daily breakfast buffet is a must. Huge selection of choices and really great staff who very friendly. Pools are the gem of this hotel. Lovely swim up bar and lounge areas. Gym is basic, but if you have experience you can do a lot with it. With the amount of great food outlets around the area, the prices for lunch and dinner where too high.

For a short stay hotel is fine, beautiful views around the hotel, we had room 413 and our view was a wall, hence the low rating that I have given it. Staff in lobby found them slightly rude. Other staff very friendly especially in restaurant. Breakfast very good. Pool area beautiful. Our room was not cleaned spotless as hair bands were on the floor. Lovely gesture of towel art on bed and flowers though. Great location for beach and town. I would go back for a short stay , but would ask for a different room.You will have a good stay.

Perfect - close to beach and lots of places to eat

Perfect room, clean eith huge bed and good sized shower room. Big plus is the direct access to pool.
There are multiple pools and best rooms are in the sets of 8 which have their own pool, only shared by the 8 rooms.

We walked the whole length of the beach and as you go further to the left where the beach is in front of the larger more expensive hotels, the beach becomed narrower and black sand, so nearer The Remada end of the beach is much better.

Cannot reccommend The Waters for proximity to the warm Andaman sea and a large choice of places to eat. You cannot beat an iced coffee and Thai starters while looking out to sea.

We went to The Sands for one evening meal and decided we were very glad to have picked The Waters and not The Sands.

Best restaurant is only a few doors away The Rabaeng and a good after dinner stop for some beer or cocktails and live music is just as close, The BeBob Bar.

While the hotel is very nice and modern it lacks personality and atmosphere. There is no staff interaction and no guest activities
The wifi drops out constantly
After the 3 rd breakfast the monotany of the same dishes each morning has the guests just wondering round and round looking for something differnt.
Even if you have your own pool acsess room, at 9:30pm the night security guard comes round and shines a torch in your eyes telling you to get out of the pool despite it still being 29 degrees
I suppose its designed for couples who are looking for somewhere quiet and boring.
If your looking for somewhere fun and a place with lots of staff involvment try The Haven just up the road

We had a bay romance room which was very nice, clean and comfortable. WiFi was good and so was the aircon. We had a pool just out the back of our room which was always empty it was like our own private pool at times. Location great, a little walk to the market and beach but in the centre of everything really.

Our only bad point was the staff at the bar in the main pool. They just talked to eachother and didn't really serve or ask to refill drinks. My girlfriend is Thai and even she said it was bad and off putting. We would have spent longer and ordered more drinks but left after 1

The Waters Hotel and Resort is all that and more. It was an unexpected oasis in a primitive neighborhood of Khao Lak. The beach may be close by, but you will prefer to stay all day at one of many beautiful pools. I will definitely stay with The Waters again!

Hotel has some very nice points which included its location to shops and local restaurant's, the pools were great its very unusual to have so many pools at one hotel. The breakfast staff were all very friendly and helpful and there was plenty of variety however we have had better in similar rated hotels and we felt that this could have been improved upon. The hotel have a lot of overnight guests that turn up late in the afternoons and then leave early in the morning so breakfast can sometimes be noisy. We found the reception staff appeared to have limited English and this became a problem if you asked any questions that were out of the norm. Our upper pool access room was comfortable and the bed was huge but if you looked too closely fittings and furniture needed updating and replacing. Overall we had a good holiday and enjoyed our stay.

Nice hotel in good location.

Had a great time at the waters. The staff were lovely and the room and facilities were good. The only thing I think that could be improved is covering the food at the breakfast buffet. The vast majority of the food is sitting out in the open and flies are able to get at it. I only ate cornflakes and croissants because of this as they were covered.

Loved the pool!

Excellent hotel with a very nice pool - the happy hour cocktails in the swim up pool bar were great value. Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice. Having paid for a bay room we were a bit disappointed with the view (room 210) as it looked out onto a wall with a very narrow view of a small pool behind the building. The location is ideal - very close to the beach and the main road - in walking distance to the market, restaurants and bars.

Pool access room is the best!

LOVED THIS RESORT. The pool access room is a must; it was a joy being able to jump into the water anytime the weather takes a toll on us. One bad thing, however, there were a couple of times the water pump was turned off so there were lotsa dead bugs and creepy crawlies in the pool. The staff were really polite and friendly and greeted us every time they saw us. Tap water had a funny taste so we had to brush our teeth with bottled water. Hotel was also walking distance from shops and Bang Niang night market, which was really pleasant.

Great pools and staff!

Very nice place. Amazing pool facilities! Get a pool access room. Convenient location to walk to the beach or to the numerous bars, restaurants, and shops. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

Just along the road to the main road, there is a Thai noodle shop with signs for 59 baht noodles. Best pad thai for the best price! The restaurant has plastic stools to sit on and the lady cooks in the front. Authentic and awesome!

Fine hotel close to the beach

Our stay at The Waters was extremely pleasant. The location and facilities are ideal for those looking to relax, the beach is a 5 minute walk away and there are restaurants and (predominantly tourist) shops literally on every corner. Personnel were friendly and helpful. The best selling point of the hotel is the pool, plenty of room for all the guests to find a shady or sunny spot to relax without needing to stake out your position early in the morning. Happy hour in the afternoon at the swim-up pool was a bonus. The breakfast choices were expansive and the long hours of the breakfast service were also fine, from 0600-1030 gives you more than enough options to plan your day as you choose. Other reviewers have complained about the WIFI connection maar we did not experience any problems with internet access. Check-in/check-out went smoothly with no hidden charges or unpleasant surprises.

Lovely hotel but not for asians

Overall the hotel facilities is good but my experience is marred by two things at the hotel morning breakfast. I was here for close to a week so it made a lot of difference how the day starts each time. 1. There are flies every day at the food breakfast buffet. 2. One local waitress showed annoyance and unhappiness when being served especially when I want my cup to be filled more than one third. She however greeted other Caucasians with big smiles and asked \"coffee or tea.\" I observed on some days how she stayed away from my table (note that I am asian) and other asian tables (note that majority gueSt's are caucasians). It is sad that I feel that a fellow asian discriminates against her own even hough I am paying guest at the hotel. I would not come back to this hotel nor recommend to a fellow asian. Non asian guests would feel more welcomed.

Good quality new hotel with some teething problems

Good new hotel. We stayed in a Bay Romance Suite, which was spacious and felt a good deal. Plenty of pools with plenty of shade to be found when needed (vital for us). We had a lazy break there and loved it but the staff were really hit and miss. For example, we weren't offered a drink by the pool in six days. Restaurant and Bar service was generally slow and disorganised with breakfast tables rarely made up and jobs left half finished. Maid service great though and room was kept clean throughout, air conditioner unit also fixed in hours without the need for us to mention it. Just a bit bizarre really though maybe typical of the area and wouldn't put us off going back there as it's a nice place.

Incredible pool

We stayed 4 nights on an incredible deal. Hotel was by far 5 stars and the service was even better. Great location beach is only a 5 minute walk. Market 5 minute walk. The pool was incredible. Would recommend !!!

Good New Hotel with few teething problems

Very good new hotel with excellent pool and upper pool access rooms. Swimming pools excellent. Braksfast Ok, nothing special eggs sometimes cold
Staff need more training (slow with coffee, removing plates), also when I asked for wine list was shown fridge, then two bottles came on the table with no price, (need further training)

Great style and central location

We very much liked the style of the hotel and the location near the market/restaurants. The only problem was that our room smelled wet and musty and it appeared to be coming from the a/c, we are not sure how the other rooms would be. Breakfast was good and we ate at the restaurant one night for dinner and both enjoyed the meal. Great pool area and happy hour. Overall good stay.

Clean and modern with very comfortable beds

I stayed here 1 night following a liveaboard trip, so it wasn't important for me to be on the beach. The hotel was close to the main street in Khao Lak for shopping and restaurant options. The bed was super comfy but there were a few things about the room design that might have bothered me if I had stayed longer -- only one mirror in the room, poor lighting for putting on make-up, no place to hang towels in the bathroom. Plus other guests can see into your room if you leave the curtains open. But overall, a very good choice at a great price with very friendly staff.

Decent hotel

Hotel room is clean and area is quiet. Staff are friendly. Neighbourhood is convenient, a short walk away from restaurants, beach and massages.

Enjoyed our stay overall. Just some notes for other travelers:
1. Hotel staff - don't expect them to give you suggestions for restaurants, spas, activities etc. They aren't really a concierge/info center.

2. Room - rainfall shower was a rainfall drizzle (as mentioned by previous guests). Washroom has very dim lighting and no outlet for the hair dryer so you can't do your makeup or hair in there. The room itself has no mirror so you can't do your makeup/hair out there either unless you bring your own mirror.

3. Pool - didn't seem particularly clean and had a film on the surface with not even a whiff of chlorine.

Overall, it was reasonable for the price.

Great hotel

I was there for just one night, but loved the hotel, the design and the decor of the rooms and the SPA.
The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and bars and there is a great street market just a few blocks away.
Only downside is that is doesn't have a private beach.

Second stay with Monochrome

This was our 2nd stay at Monochrome. We like the centralized location (5 minutes walk to the beach, 5 minutes walk to Bang Niang market) and comfy rooms. Overall, the stay was pleasant and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Near to the beach about 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel restaurant. It's very dark at night at the front entrance of the hotel, however you can always go back from the restaurant. This hotel is only suitable for couple. Lobby chair is very dirty but the service is good.There's a lot of shops and restaurant around the area. Room is very clean but those who concern about your privacy might have to close the curtain whole day long because it is very easy to look inside your room even from other room, the lobby and from the pool. basically everywhere. Breakfast has very little selection.

Nice and quiet, compared to Kata and patong

Nice hotel, has what you need. The Italian restaurant is a must go! If u looking for Thai food, like good authentic Thai food. Look on the,highway before turning into the area where monochrome is. Beach is only 3 min walk and quiet. Lots of tours to near by islands.

The staff at Monochrome are great, right down to the cat who likes to ride on the luggage trolley.
Easy walk to beach, market, shops and restaurants all very close.
Or stay and laze by the pool.

Great, modern hotel in a quiet part of Thailand

We were greeted by helpful front desk staff who took care of all the paperwork for us, took our bags and took us to our room quickly. We really liked the slower pace of this area of Thailand about an hour from Phuket. We were on our honeymoon but we enjoyed seeing families and other couples enjoying the slower pace, beautiful weather and great facilities. This hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the beach but there are lots of nice shops and restaurants on the way there that we enjoyed. Also, there is a slightly busier area also with a beach and a few more shops only a 150 B taxi ride away. The room was better than we expected and the hotel staff was very helpful. Our room was cleaned very well every day. We would recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the future.

Nice, comfortable hotel

Monochrome is fairly new, quite comfortable, and a 5 to 10 minute walk from the beach. It's close to lots of restaurants. Vouchers for free massages were a nice touch.
