The hotel is very family friendly. The splash park is great for kids and the swim up rooms are brilliant. The buffet breakfast selection was huge and delicious, so much choice.

Most amazing hotel, my little girl loved it. The soft play was her favourite! The kids area in the swimming pool was amazing too! So much to do, we were at the end of our 4 week trip around Thailand and so we just stayed in hotel and enjoyed it for the whole week, never got bored! The food was amazing, and the sunsets at the restaurant by the beach was gorgeous! Only downside is the yoga classes are in a room next to the games room, and so for more than half of the yoga class we had to listen to kids screaming and also looking into the room, so being shy it can be off putting. A hotel we stayed in in koh Samui did their classes in the mornings by the pool outdoors early morning whilst breakfast just began, which is just a thought that maybe the hotel should consider theirs in the giant garden by the lake.

My daughter loved feeding the fish! Would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Khao Lak!

From we arrived you could the quality of The Sands, it's beautifully laid out with manicured lawns, water features and a large fish pond. We had a swim up room which was large, clean and very comfortable, the only downside of the room was that the terrace was in the shade for the majority of the day, if you want one of these rooms request one that has sun most of the day. The site is almost split in two with quieter side that had an adult only pool and family pool with bar, then the other side has a mini water park for the kids with a number slides, fun water play and a lazy river. At breakfast there's a great choice catering to all nationalities and tastes, we didn't eat at the hotel at night but speaking to people who had it sounded very good. The staff are fantastic, always polite and friendly, nothing is to much trouble. Whether you want a family holiday, with plenty to entertain the kids, or a restful time from work or touring Thailand then The Sands is a great choice

The Staff were wonderful, the room (2Adults and 2 Children was spacious) We had a king sized bed and the children had a day bed and roll out trundle bed. The facilities were geeat - my children did not want to get out of the pool and enjoyed the lazy river!!!! Once you know some shortcuts, it cuts the walkinv time down to not much!!!! Food quality was good and I enjoyed my breakfast every morning.
Great stay and would do it again!

Our stay at the Sands was ok, but fell short of expectations. The rooms were pretty tired looking and not kept well to actually be a 5 star resort. Staff was inconsistent, some were great but others just seemed not too eager to help.

I will say that both those negative aspects are contributed by a lot of guests that just don’t seem to care; saw people throwing garbage everywhere, trashing rooms (sad for cleaning team), and being rude to the staff. Traveling with kids is challenging but no excuse to not be respectful.

Even though I ordered room service, I had to wait over two hours.
I contacted them twice, but they were not very sincere in their responses.
I felt sorry for the children because they were hungry.
There are plenty of pools and play areas for children.
It's a five-star hotel for kids and a three-star hotel for adults.
Most of the staff were smiling and full of hospitality.

Property has seen better days. There were bagworms hanging from the toilet roof, toilet fittings are mouldy and rusting.
Rooms smelt like they had been air freshened with toilet deodorant. Bedroom furniture is also worn out and not kept in good condition.

It could also have been the season when I was visiting, but there are flies everywhere at dining premises. The main restaurant we used for breakfast was not air conditioned, which probably exacerbated the flies issue.

On the upside, the pools were very nice, it was about the part of the stay that we enjoyed the most. We checked out 2 days early and moved to another hotel. Definitely not the 4.5 stars that it's meant to be.

Family pool access room great with kids however balcony was so short you could not recline the deck chairs while facing the pool, other pool access rooms facing kids areavlooked like they had larger balconies. Kids club was great for kids. Beach is nice, too rough to swim in during the low season. Little ahop onsite was handy and shoet walk to many restaurants, cheaper than eating at hotel. Life jackets provided for swimming if required. Kids slides good for kids under 5. Room with showers and toilets for late check out was great.

Great Facilities and Service, but Lacking Evening

Almost everything about our stay was excellent. The pools were fantastic and a real highlight for the whole family. Breakfast was good and well worth the price. The staff at the Flying Market restaurant and in the kids club were exceptionally friendly and provided great service.

The only downsides were the slow-running water and inconsistent shower temperature in our room, which unfortunately were not fixed despite informing the staff, and the lack of evening activities — the hotel feels completely dead at night with nothing to do.

Lovely quiet getaway, but don’t be sneaky

Overall was a good stay, however a bit of a swifty was pulled - we paid for a family pool suite, and clearly was the junior pool suite (difference of around $40 AUD per night) - but were told it was the right room just in a different area - but their room layouts on their own website disprove this. The room was probably preferable in the end (more private) but the fact we paid more, and they tried to do this secretly. Also happened to two other families we spoke to while there.

Beds were rock hard and pillows too soft so we slept poorly (we left a feedback form after the first night, but was never picked up)

The general manner of the staff was fine - FoH staff were not as friendly as you’d expect, but hospitality and room service were absolutely lovely.

The facilities were good, great pools, and pool side rooms are a must to avoid noise all day long. BBQ buffet was sensational.

I would give it a 7/10 overall, slightly generous seeing the room issue.

Lovely resort! I feel the resort is best suited to families with children under 7 - as everything shuts down so early. Lots of babies and young children and programs for the littles.
The nightly performances and live shows were wonderful room was spacious clean and felt like a taste of home - loads of room to spread out kids stuff and still have space leftover

We are a family of 4 (children aged 6 and 9) who have spent four nights at the sands. We were extremely satisfied with the cleaning, activities for the children and easy access to the local town. The pool area was really nice for mixed age groups. The beach was child-friendly and clean. It was easy to get sunbeds (4 pieces) even though we arrived at 10.30 am to the children's pool. The breakfast buffet was nice and the service was also satisfactory.

This was my second stay at this property and it was another great one.
The family rooms are spacious and have most things you need. We opted for the oil access in the Aqua wing and it was a great experience.
Breakfast is amazing, wonderful food and choices galore.
Loved the fish feeding experience daily for the kids
We had lunch at the the Manta Ray and Coconut/Talat and it was lovely. Great portions.
We also ate dinner at the Floating Market for a special fire show evening which was lovely .
The areas of improvement would be that some of the paths are a little dangerous for kids/older people. Need grates over holes etc. Also the fact that the Jellyfish bar is the only place to get draft beer and they ran out was disappointing.
Would also be handy to have a bottle opener provided in the rooms.

It was our wedding anniversary and The Sands specially decorated the bed and provided a sponge cake to help us celebrate. We stayed in a ground floor room with direct pool access and it was great for our two young boys. They were 3 other pools as well with the kids pool being a favourite. The resort has direct beach access and is an easy walk to the main stretch of Khao Lak with great dining options and local shopping. Breakfast had a wide selection which easily catered for our varied tastes. The staff were amazing and the rooms were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed an amazing sunset on Christmas day and wished we could have stay longer. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather which was a bonus.

Lovely resort well thought out for children and adults. Separate pool for adults and breakfast also separate for the adults. Lots of very friendly staff. Lifeguards at all the children's pools safety was paramount. Washing facilities available for clothes however one machine out of 3 was out of order so often a queue to get washing done.
Food very good although same offering every day. Buffet breakfast excellent.

Many areas for all to enjoy. Rooms very comfortable. Even asked to by mattress topper as it was so comfortable.
Some areas need maintenance such as Aqua Zone with rust and sharp edges. Timber rotting around pool access rooms and plenty of ant's. Overall will def come back. Easy walk to shops, markets and restaurants. And cheaper than Patong region. 6 times to Thailand and Khao Lak has been the best. And Sands best resort so far

The resort is wonderful for kids. The rooms are spacious and clean. The beds and facilities are clean and well kept up. The breakfast buffet was varied and something for everyone. We often sat there for an hour enjoying the breakfast and atmosphere. We loved the water park. Just have to pay attention to the schedule for the slide and lazy river. But the kids got used to that and enjoyed it so much that they even used it in the rainy days. The beach is walkable but no one was using the many lounging chairs because it was rainy season with red flags warnings. I highly recommend this resort for anyone who has children

Great place for a family holiday. Kids 5 and 7 absolutely loved it. Went to kids club daily which got them out of the heat. Loved the slides, kids water park. The pools were hot, not refreshing.
The rooms had great air con, which was needed as it was so hot.
We ate outside the hotel every night, and easy to get tuk tuk, or walk.

A true gem in Khao Lak!

Our stay The Sands was wonderful. We had high expectations for our long awaited trip to Khao Lak and having already had a week of hectic sightseeing in busy Phuket, we were delighted to arrive to Khao Lak to a relaxing resort but with enough to keep the children entertained. We loved the local area which provided so many options for shopping and eating out. We had a swim up family room which had excellent facilities and was beautifully furnished. I have literally zero complaints!

The property is beautiful. It has many pools, for children, for adults, for families. There are spas to relax. The resort is attached to the beach so if you don't want to swim you can walk to the beach or take a swim in the ocean. The breakfast is excellent, good variety. You can have drinks and lunch by the pools. They also have a kids adventure park. I would go back again. The staff are very friendly, always smiling and do their best to keep everyone happy. There are life guards at the pool as well as on the beach. It is an hour and a half from Phuket International airport but it is worth it because of the quietness and relaxing atmosphere.

Love this hotel

Really love this hotel.
The hotel is comfortable and spacious , always has great service. Pool is beautiful and water park is always fun for the kids. Prices in the restaurants are reasonable. Stayed 5 times and will come again soon.

Lovely property, the grounds are immaculate, pools are great. Room with pool access fantastic. Property is doing some renovations to one of the buffet breakfast areas and the centre of the grounds. Found staff to be very accommodating.

Great for kids (and adults)

Great resort if you have kids as it has a very nice water park with slides and other water features that will keep them happy for hours.
The rooms are modern and very comfortable with one of the best beds that I have had in Thailand.
The buffet breakfast is excellent and there are 2 other restaurants serving lunch and dinner. The prices are higher that the restaurants in the main road (a few minutes walk away) but not too expensive if you want to dine at the resort.
Overall a very good choice if you have kids but even if you don’t and want quiet, there is an adults only pool right on the beach.
