We had the best stay in this pristine, relaxing, welcoming home away from home💕 The staff are treasures and intentional in making you feel well taken care of. A big thank you to Andre and the breakfast staff as they extended extra care-bringing treats and special plates. The daily breakfast was catered to all preferences. The pool/spa spectacular. We were stranded due to the blizzard and they accommodated us for the few extra days. Experience at the Azores would be sorely remiss if you do not make Hotel Verde Mar & Spa part of your vacation.

Hotel Verde Mar is a lovely hotel situated right on the seafront in Ribeira Grande. The staff were courteous, pleasant, and always willing to help. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean — and it’s definitely worth booking one with a sea view, as it includes a lovely outdoor sitting area with a table and chairs.

The hotel itself is large, with plenty of comfortable communal areas to sit back and relax. The spa is also very nice and adds to the overall experience. The restaurant and breakfast area are bright and airy, with large windows offering beautiful sea views. There was a great variety of food at breakfast, though it was occasionally slow to be replenished, and a couple of times I had to ask for plates and cups.

Overall, it’s a wonderful place to stay, with beautiful views and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

I’m so happy we chose to stay at Hotel Verde Mar. It’s a beautiful and modern hotel, the staff are so kind and helpful, the breakfast is delicious, it’s right by the ocean, and parking is free. They also have a separate towel service for going to thermal pools or swimming in the ocean which is convenient.

The location is also so great, you can walk into Ribiera Grande for food, and there’s a grocery story 1 minute away. Also again the proximity to the ocean is so nice.

The room is quite nice, our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean. I had been concerned about the bathroom having a window into the main room but there is a shade that can be drawn that fully covers it.

When I come back to Sao Miguel I will definitely stay here again.

Good complimentary breakfast with a selection of tasty eggs, cheeses, and bread options and 3 different juices everyday. Rooms were mostly quiet and soundproof, and room service did a great job keeping everything clean and tidy. Two pools, one heated indoor pool, one outdoor infinity pool with great views into the ocean that lines the back of the hotel complex. No jaccuzi/hot tub but there is a dry sauna and a steam room. Overall loved the hotel and service was very professional and friendly from the staff.

The Oceanview room had a beautiful view of pool and ocean. The room was nice and clean but the bathroom lacked sufficient lighting and there was not enough storage for your clothes. I don’t like living out of a suitcase for a week. The front staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed the lobby music. The included breakfast buffet was fresh, delicious and the view was outstanding.

Sheets were clean but floor in room felt gritty if you walked in bare feet like it isn’t well cleaned between guests. A few stains on balcony door and glass on windows and shower very spotty/ The hallway carpets also had hair clumps that never got vacuumed during our stay so not sure how attentive they are to cleaning.
People were friendly and food was good. View of ocean was nice but land between hotel and ocean run down.

This hotel is in an amazing location to enjoy the beach, or to enjoy the gorgeous pool and patio overlooking the beach. Wonderful beach and boardwalk walking, good restaurant on site and others that are walkable. The indoor pool and spa area are large and clean and lovely as well.

The outdoor pool was very nice, with a great beachfront view. Unfortunately, other aspects were disappointing. The sauna is far too small – with just three people inside it already feels crowded. Towel handling in the spa area is poorly organized: you only get one towel at reception and are expected to use it for everything.

Breakfast was good, but service was lacking. We sat on the terrace, where tables were not cleaned between guests and often remained cluttered, despite plenty of staff around. For vegetarians, options were limited; some cream cheese or a savory spread would have been a welcome addition.

Our room was extremely hot when we arrived. Although there was air conditioning, we were given only one key card, so the AC turned off whenever we left. We had to request a second card at reception – something they should provide automatically.

When we asked if a twin room was available, we were offered two small blankets instead. What we received were just the separate parts (blankets and covers), as if we were meant to make up the bed ourselves. Since a large blanket was already on the bed, we used that instead. For a €400 room, this felt inappropriate.

Overall, the location and pool were strong points, but the service and facilities did not match the price.

While I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, I can’t give it more than a three star rating for the following reasons. The food is substandard. Lots of choice at the breakfast but the quality is very inconsistent. One day kiwis were on the buffet. They were hard as a rock and inedible. Some days the pineapple was very good, other days, not so good. I found the cold cuts to be inedible. The lettuce was wilted. The pastry was terrible. The oven baked eggs were a savior. We tried the hotel once for dinner and it did not earn a return visit. I ordered shrimp to start and then pulvo (octopus). Very average. We found mom and pop places all over the island to eat that were cheap and very good. The plastic loungers at the pool were uncomfortable. With regard to the ocean views from the hotel, they are somewhat compromised because the hotel doesn’t clean the windows frequently enough to keep them clear. I understand that the wind, sand, and salt from the ocean can quickly soil the windows. That’s not an excuse. Finally, the gym is located next to the indoor pool. There can be a massive condensation problem in the gym which creates a very hazardous floor. The door to the gym needs to be kept closed and the AC needs to be set on high. This is an accident waiting to happen. In sum, it’s a nice hotel but definitely not luxury.

All staff was incredible and greeted me in Portuguese while other hotels greet you in English. I go for the culture not to feel like I never left my country, so keep it up folks.

A shout out to Fabiana, Ruben #1 and Ruben #2, Andre, Paulo, Pedro and Alexander. Its the people that make us feel at home and this team made our stay incredible. Verde Mar is my #1 location moving forward and I have been to the island 14 times. Great location and walkable city.

Restaurant offers amazing food and wine selection. Breakfast buffet is on point. Pool with food service is great as well. The fact one can walk down a path to a big beach is a bonus. Rooms are spacious and well stocked. I actually have no complaints and simply loved this spot.

My son and I had a wonderful two night stay at Hotel Verde! The hotel was exceptional in every way - service, cleanliness, comfort, food, etc!! It was convenient having the beach right across the back yard area, and their indoor/outdoor pool areas were lovely (nice gym too!) I would highly recommend! It is worth noting that I saw mainly adults staying here (not that kids aren’t welcome but it had a more mature, quiet vibe).

This is a lovely hotel that feels luxurious and has the most beautiful views of the ocean.
The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly.
The breakfast buffet is to die for. So much delicious food to choose from!
The rooms are spacious and have everything needed. They are also very quiet and dark, ensuring a good night's sleep.
Children loved the two swimming pools.
The only, very minor, note is that some of the decor had small nicks, rips and scratches that you wouldn't expect to see in such a nice hotel, but this in no way detracts from the overall lovely experience.

Hotel Verde Mar and Spa was an excellent place to stay in Ribeira Grande. It was very easy to find and with lots of free parking. Location is perfect with a grocery store across the street and easy walk to old town Ribeira Grande and
Vera Marde beach right in front. We had the ocean-view king room with a balcony. I highly recommend upgrading to the ocean view rooms. The sound of the waves, watching surfers out front, beautiful sunsets from the balcony and watching the horses in the field in front of the hotel all made for a wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped (the small fridge is great for dinner leftovers and keeping water bottles cold). The room had a great bathroom with nice shower. The breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of choices. The free bottle of red wine was a great treat. There's an indoor pool and sauna. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had an excellent 6 night stay.

Beautiful hotel with every amenity. My room was beautiful and I had the walk out patio and living room with separate bedroom on the second floor. The view was beautiful. Breakfasts have delicious fresh fruit and juices. I have a gluten and dairy allergy and options were sufficient. Location can’t be beat in the middle of the island and a reasonable distance to any spot to visit. Easy to park and access. Many excellent restaurants nearby. Beats having to deal with the chaos and wait times in Ponta Delgada. Pool and saunas were wonderful at the end of a long day hiking. Showers are exceptional. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Only wish they had a water station to refill water bottles.

Verde Mar & Spa is a wonderful hotel. It has many amenities, the ocean views from your balcony are beautiful. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. You have your choice of bar food or the restaurant with wonderful views of the ocean. The food was very good. It is also within walking distance of several other restaurants. Finally, being is Ribeira Grande was very nice, a little quieter than Ponta Delgado. We would definitely stay there again.

The pools were very nice and the hotel is situated within walking distance to town and other restaurantt options.

Fantastic hotel in a great location.

Our stay at the hotel was fantastic. The staff was amazing, and the food, more so. During our six night stay, we had diner at the hotel four times, and they were our best meals by far.
There is ocean views from almost every room and the hotel is very quiet. Parking is easy and the location is close to many restaurants, museums and a grocery store if you need anything.
The pools and the spa are well designed and they are the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the island. The ocean is a two minute walk from the hotel and there is a nice beach with great waves for surfing.
The only things negative worth nothing are the design of the washrooms in the rooms where the walls are made of glass panels - some translucid and others tainted. This is not great for intimacy in the shower or on the toilet! Only a mechanized curtain outside the washroom prevents you from looking in. The second thing is the air gaps on the door that leads to the terrace. It was super windy while we were there so there was often a whistling sound of air passing through the door.
Appart from these minor details, this place is well worth staying at.

Our stay at Hotel Verde Mar & Spa in Ribeira Grande was a great escape. The location is fantastic, nestled by Monte Verde Beach and close to a charming little town that’s fun to explore. Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, we enjoyed the amenities, especially the indoor pool and sauna, which were perfect for relaxing.
The staff really stood out—they were incredibly helpful with booking activities and ready to assist with anything we needed during our stay, which made the trip run smoothly. Breakfast was another highlight—everything was fresh and delicious. And while the ocean views from the restaurant and pool added a lovely touch to the experience, the overall atmosphere was peaceful without being overly flashy.
It’s a solid choice for a laid-back stay in the Azores, balancing comfort and convenience well.

My friend and I stayed here for 9 days and it felt like home after a while. The staff was so friendly, greeting us coming and going like we were family! The free breakfasts were delicious and well-rounded -- everything you could possibly want. We had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant one night (there were plenty of options nearby as well, so we tried a new one every night) and the service and food was exceptional. The beach nearby was wonderful for walks (though it was too cold for us to swim in March). Driving around the island was very easy; our location allowed us to visit anywhere we wanted within 30-60 minute drive.

This is a very nice hotel with beautiful views of the ocean. The dining area similarly has open views of the ocean, giving a very calming atmosphere. The indoor pool is huge, with very nice tiles, one of the nicest that I have seen. The staff are very attentive and helpful. This was a very relaxed stay.
