For the price I’d rate the Best Western Guinigi as only ok and could do better.
There were some niggles that should not have happened at a hotel for this price and purporting to be a 4 star experience. Firstly room service was average with a particular gripe of the staff never putting new cups and saucers in the room (this happened 4 times out of the 6 days I spent at the hotel), meaning I had to go down myself from the fourth floor to reception and get from the bar staff. Annoying in itself but made worse by the attitude of the staff who offered no apologies and didn’t seem to understand that it was an issue. Also only one teabag was allowed it appeared in the room and even that was forgotten about on the last two nights. Considering the cost of the room (approx £130 a night) you would have thought they could afford more. Also it was not made clear until checkout that the bottled water in the fridge was not complimentary and charged at 3 euros a bottle.
The room was a really nice size with a huge king size bed but the mattress was as hard as nails which did not make for a good night’s sleep. Air conditioning was good although broke down on my last night which I alerted reception to on check out. Cleaning standard was generally good.
Location was a little out of town, about 20-25 minutes walk which was ok for me. There is a half hourly bus service during the week into town also.

I got this hotel as alternate solution provided by Tour operator due to canceled reservation of different hotel. Hotel is located outside of Lucca - in the middle of nowhere. Not good for travelers without a car.
No free water at the rooms even if it's rated as four stars hotel. It's a shame that a hotel is not providing it for free when a room costs nearly 180€/night.
I even think that for a four stars rated hotel it should work on a few details. For me it is currently not a four stars hotel.

We stayed in a suite. When we arrived the room had not be aired. once windows balcony door opened it was fine.

We had booked twin beds so when we entered room and found double we discussed with front desk and they had this sorted out and 2 x drink vouchers. It took another 40 minutes before we could get back into room and the bar was not open until 5pm which was 3 hours away. we were told there was a vending machine with cold drinks.

our stay was for 6 nights and during this time the sheets were not changed, something we are not used to in Italy. Would have expected at least one change after 3 days.

Breakfast was good but difficult to get proper coffee (not out of machine) as staff who took room number (if anyone was there to do so) didn't ask unless you asked. Also one day there were not plates left to put breakfast items on.

On the Friday we got back from a trip out and went to vending machine in Hotel and there was no still water. I went to front desk and asked about this and what appeared to be a manager said the bar opens at 5pm to which i said i knew (again a couple of hours away from that) and he offered water bottles that were hot. 2 days later the vending machine had not yet been refilled. we headed for the supermarket!

Overall staff at front desk were quite helpful but the stay could have been so much more comfortable if there had been a smoother operation in place especially with a hotel group this size. just rather disappointing.

Nice modern hotel. The room was clean and spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the bar staff particularly so. We didn't have breakfast but the food and service at dinner was good. Plenty of parking at the rear. There are several local bars, restaurants, and supermarkets nearby and Lucca centre is about 25 minutes walk.

This is a very basic hotel. No frills. Clean, good breakfast and close to Lucca old city where great features. Staff Can be moody at times and communication not great. for example charging (a lot!) for water, the only item in the mini bar. We stayed in July and the temperature was near 40c so it was fair to assume water is complimentary but we were charged for it! There was no sign or price again it in the room. The minibar fridge was not even on. The bottles were just placed there.
Also the acoustics is a bit poor and you can hear noises from
corridors and other rooms.
I’ll give 7 out of 10 if you keep to the right level of expectations.

The property is situated about 20 mins from Lucca walls - less if you drive. The staff was always friendly and greeted us with a smile. Rooms were adequate as we were not staying for long. The Sauna is closed due to COVID (not sure why as the fitness centre i.e. the gym was open. Highly recommend the hotel if you don't want a sauna.

Suite room was spacious, comfortable and quiet being on the top floor. Five minute drive to old city walls or convenient bus service immediately outside the hotel. Good free parking facilities.Had dinner in the hotel on two nights and it was reasonable quality and good value. Bar unfortunately is dead.
Hotel a little dated in decor but no big deal. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Would use this hotel again if I was staying in Lucca.

Bed and pillow was uncomfortable, extremely disappointing that laundry is unavailable 2 days out of the week as we planned this stop 1/2 way through our 2 week trip specifically to be able to do laundry and it was closed! Not available? How a laundry room is closed for 2 days of the week makes no sense to me. So, I spent hours driving to a self serve lavandria and waiting for my laundry. Did not get to see Lucca 😔

Away from the crazy of the comic show but close enough to walk there and the other attractions. Buses convenient but not available until after 2 pm on Sunday so not much help there. Excellent dining and spacious room. Only complaint - my bed (2 twins together) was so hard! Part my age and part ... well it was really hard!

I chose this hotel because the website said it had laundry facilities and a playground on-site. We were in the middle of a long road trip and needed clean clothes. Turns out they only offered a laundry service M-F. Since I checked in Friday night, I was out of luck. I had to find a local laundromat the next morning. There also was no playground. They had a play area that would be suitable for toddlers. Other than that, the hotel was fine. Food was good but nothing spectacular. Drinks at the bar were a little pricey. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

This is the best place to stay when you visit Lucca. Although it’s not in the city centre, if you are by car it’s easy to park it in front. The hotel is great, the staff extremely helpful. Wonderful Hotel - Especially for a Group

We had a group of 13, and the staff was very friendly, helpful, professional, and accommodating. The hotel is a couple of miles outside the city center. There is a bus that goes from the hospital which is quick walk from the hotel to the center of the city. The chef is amazing, and our dinner was delicious! Plus the waitstaff was excellent.

A perfect place to stay near Lucca

This was our fist nights stay after a trans-Atlantic flight. The hotel staff was welcoming and the room was beautiful. The desk clerk helped us with dinner reservations. Our rate did not include breakfast, but we purchased it for a very small price and were impressed with the variety and quality of the food offered. It is only a short drive to the walled city of Lucca, so this is a perfect location to stay and enjoy the sights.

I would recommend this hotel to other travelers. The single beds were very spacious, with plenty of room and very clean. The shower is amazing and I was generally cery pleased with the room. Due to time of year, the air con was not turned on however the staff were incredibly efficient in providing an alternative, and ensured we had a pleasant stay. We enjoyed the stay, excelent rooms, bathroom etc. Could not get better. The only problem it is so far out of the City walls its quite a distance to walk. Do not get a Taxi as you will get ripped off. There is a bus that runs from the hospital into the centre of the city walls, and it is very cheap.
There is only one problem if you need to sit outside in the sun, there is (A) no green area lawns etc, (B) no chairs.
Overall the hotel could not be beaten for luxury

This was a very nice hotel, what you would expect a Best Western to be (i.e., not loaded with character but very well-equipped and comfortable). It's a little ways out of town but a short, easy drive to the old town walls where we found lots of street parking. Rooms were modern and clean -- great, comfy bed! Our \"double\" room was actually a king bed which is always a nice surprise. Staff were friendly and helpful with directions. I read another review where someone complained that breakfast was served in the basement, but it's in a really nice, large, bright room and the food was excellent -- tons to choose from and all very fresh. We loved Lucca as it was much quieter than the other places we'd come from (Rome, Florence, Pisa) and this nice, spacious, quiet hotel was a refreshing change of pace. Would return!

We only stayed one night on our way to Pisa. Hotel si simple and functional, albeit on the older side. It is more of a business hotel. Breakfast is reasonable. Don't expect to walk to the city center, but not too much of a drive. However staff is impressive: our daughter forgot her stuffed animal, and they were very nice in making sure we got it back. The hotel is about a 10 minute taxi ride from the train station. Fares ranged from 10 to 15 Euro. The hotel is just outside of the Lucca city limits so the rates were a little less, but I think I would have preferred to pay more and be near the city center. However, that's not a knock on this hotel. We found the rooms to very comfortable and spacious. Our family of two adults and two children 9, 11) had plenty of room to spread out plus the bathroom featured a spa tub and separate shower. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel and found all to be very delicious.

We decided to go to Lucca for a night after staying in Genova for 2 nights. Never know what you are in for with a Best Western hotel but this one was really nice. Staff were friendly and polite, the room was large and modern and the breakfast had a huge selection. The hotel is just over 1 km from the entrance to Lucca Antica. Definitely would stay here again if we return to Lucca.

Comfortable and clean hotel with very helpful reception staff. It's quite a distance into Lucca historical centre if walking, a good 30 minutes along a busy road. Many people hire a bicycle but that's not for me so I ended up using taxis, an expense I hadn't anticipated. Between €12 and €15 per trip depending on time and drop off point. The breakfast arrangement was a bit haphazard and not all staff were particularly helpful, a reasonable selection of food on offer though. The hotel would benefit from an outside seating area, I can't believe they don't have one. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. All our requests were promptly and courteously dealt with by the lovely reception staff. I would stay here again if travelling by car.

It was boiling hot during my stay in lucca and best western was a terrific retreat in the afternoon to refresh for the evening. Clean, cool, professional staff, great rooms and bathrooms. Excellent desk staff. The hotel is modern, clean and comfortable. All staff are friendly and helpful. The suite was beautifully arranged and carefully thought through with the comfort of guests in mind. The hotel is just away from the centre of town, which has some advantages, but a car is probably needed if your stay is short.

Good hotel for the base of visit to Lucca

The hotel is only for those who drives since it is located outside of the wall. the room is very spacious with a bug king bed and a small bed, very clean and comfortable. They have rental bikes so we visited Lucca with bicycles. The breakfast was good, they have separate food for group and private guests. It is safe to bike around. We started 3:30pm and came back around 10:30pm.

Glad we stayed here... We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel with family room close to Pisa and were lucky enough to fall on this hotel wich more importantly is located just outside the wall of Lucca probably the nicest town we visited in Italy.
The hotel itself was adequate with great family room options. Even the quirky hovering waiters at breakfast were a laugh!
For the price it's on par with anything else around.

Reasonable 4 star hotel, a little old but nothing too bad. Food in restaurant is good.

relaxing break in Lucca

family room of 4 twin beds was perfect, it was a suite really split into 2 areas with 2 beds and their own tv in each area, table and chairs and en-suite. Breakfast was plentiful.
