During my recent stay at Hotel Danaos, I was charmed by its perfect beachfront location—just steps from Nea Chora Beach, and within a leisurely 15‑minute walk along the sea to Chania’s historic Venetian harbour and downtown . The stunning sea views from the balconies were the ideal backdrop to sip morning coffee or unwind at sunset.

The hotel offers great value for money with clean, well‑equipped rooms (air conditioning, mini‑fridge, TV, Wi‑Fi) and daily housekeeping . In particular, guests praised the continental breakfast buffet—plentiful options like yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal and juices served in a bright seaside room .

What truly stands out is the warm, family-run atmosphere—the staff were consistently described as friendly, helpful, and attentive, assisting with tips for exploring Chania, arranging bike or car rentals, and welcoming guests like old friends.

Hotel was right on beach. Near restaurants and bars. Decent size room for 3 people. Parking was a few blocks away. Staff at bar attached to hotel were very unfriendly. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and was given an attitude. They claimed it was very difficult to make and took them 25 minutes to make it! It was the worst daiquiri I’ve ever had. Also, when given a room with a “city view” I wasn’t expecting to see a neighborhood with a man in his boxers smoking. Make sure you request ocean view.

This is a basic hotel, but clean and comfy. Amazing to get a place right on the most beautiful beach! You also save €5 on beach umbrella & chairs because you stay here. Tons of restaurants here and a 10-15min walk along the water to get to old toqn. We didnt have any problems. WIFI is slow in rooms but works amazing on the beach. Amazing place to stay for the money!

We really enjoyed our stay in the Danaos Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel faced onto a beautiful sandy beach. There was a good buffet breakfast and there was a cafe/bar/restaurant on the ground floor looking out to the sea.

I loved that the hotel was right on the beach. The host was welcoming, and our room was clean and comfy. There was a restaurant/bar right next door, and lots of people watching. The only problem was the traffic around the area. We didn't know where to park, and googlemaps gave us the wrong directions! Luckily, the hotel did have a parking lot about a block away, and host gave us directions to it.

Lovely little basic hotel right on the waterfront. Immaculate good sized rooms, comfortable firm beds, comfortable table and chairs on balcony. Brollies for beach and balcony. Hot water, WiFi, TV all excellent. 10-15mi s walk to old Town and plenty of good restaurants and bars on the doorstep.

Clean and friendly seafront hotel

It's only a 2 star hotel so has basic facilities, however it was recently refurbished, kept immaculately clean, working air conditioning and there was always staff at the desk to help. The location is excellent - only across the road from the beach and the hotel offers sunbeds on the beach at a discount for hotel residents. There are many good restaurants along the sea front. You can walk to the old town in 20 minutes.

The cafe/bar attached to the hotel is lovely and popular with locals and tourists alike - didn't hear any noise from it in the room either.

Breakfast is basic but good - just make sure to get there in time as they seem to close up early if no-one is there.

We organised our airport transfer through the hotel and they showed up on time and cost the same as if we'd sourced our own taxi.

The Hotel is right on the Nea Chora beach strip with a fantastic view and a decent restaurant on the front of the hotel where you can have a well priced breakfast, lunch or dinner. 8 Euro for all you can eat breakfast with many options. Beachside restaurants up and down the street offering delicious seafood and Greek dishes or a take a 15-20 min walk along the coastline to the beautiful old port town with its boundless restaurants and shops along the pedestrian walkways. If you have a car you will have to park it in a lot a few blocks away but they do have parking available. Overall good value for money and had an excellent stay.

The hotel staff were lovely… in particular the cleaning staff and front desk ladies! If we needed anything they were right there!
The room itself was a little outdated and so felt rather dingy, in particular the bathroom.
The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a balcony with ocean view.
Screen on the door would be great so to keep the fresh air in and out without the mosquitoes.
Would also be great to have no smoking rooms for those of us who are sensitive to cigarette smoke.
Overall and great stay!

I booked 2 nights in this hotel as my friend visited me for a long weekend and we wanted to spend a couple of days in Chania. I'd previously stayed at this hotel when my sister visited me in May. I had a twin bed room overlooking the beach and, as the price was so reasonable, was expecting it to be acceptable, but I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout, the room was comfortable, well-equipped (fridge, TV, large bathroom with a shower and toiletries), towels and bed linens were extremely clean, with quilts available if wanted. The service was second to none - absolutely excellent at all times. Before walking into the city, asked for a kettle which was instantly given to us, so we could have a cuppa before bed (we'd taken some tea bags with us) and were able to make a cuppa whenever we wanted. The downstairs bar serves food and snacks at a very reasonable rate which can be ordered from the terrace which overlooks the beach.

The hotel location is perfect - walk across the road and you're on the sand. It's just a ten minute walk to Chania harbour with all its shops, bars and tavernas. The hotel is just far away to be quiet enough to get a good night's sleep, dropping off as you listen to the waves on the shore.

The hotel was excellent and all of the staff really couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. I'll definitely use this hotel again in future and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

I would recommend this hotel - the whole place was freshly painted and spotlessly clean - rooms, corridors, lobby and restaurant. The staff were excellent at all times, extremely helpful, polite and friendly. Price was surprisingly affordable for a beachfront location in such a stunning city. Easy walking distance to the tourist harbour area of Chania, yet safe and quiet at night. Anybody planning a trip to Chania, I would urge you to use this hotel - I'll be using it again in future as I had such a great experience.

We had an amazing stay, too short but we enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone at the reception was nice, in the area there were enough parking spots, restaurants and a minimarket. We got the room with the sea view and it was simply amazing. We will be for sure back, and hopefully we will be able to stay a longer time. The hotel is 20 min walking from the Venetian harbor 😊

Three night stay in the middle of June. Located right on the beach. You can exit the water and sand across the small pedestrian boardwalk directly into the hotel. Staff was pleasant and welcoming. WiFi was excellent. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Shower was larger than many others in Greece. Nice balcony with two chairs and table - mine was on the backside of the building facing away from the beach. Waterfront rooms were available. Good value for the money when comparing other nearby properties. Easy 15-20 walk to the old Venetian Harbor. If you are in Chania and plan on going to the beach, this property is for you.

Our Chania trip

Set right on the beach front in the suburb of Nea Chora, the hotel is situated about 25 minutes stroll to the old town of Chania. The beach is clean and well kept, and the hotel has sun beds and umbrellas to rent for a small fee. There is a small fishing port and harbor at the end of the promenade which is lined by numerous tavernas all selling a great variety of Greek fare and great fish There are three floors to the hotel all covered by a lift, and our room was clean and simply furnished, with air con and a balcony overlooking the beach. Continental breakfast was served each morning and could be taken inside, or out on the terrace looking onto the beach. The hotel bar serves drinks and snacks with a waiter service to the sun beds on the beach which was good. All the staff were super friendly and eager to be of assistance.
So, if you're looking for a nice friendly place to stay, in a great location with loads of eating / drinking options on your doorstep, then the Hotel Danaos comes highly recommended indeed.

Ordinary hotel at the beachfront

The true value of this hotel is its location right in fron of the sea, which makes it great mainly for families with the kids wanting to enjoy the sea on daily basis. For the couples as us, it however made for sense to stay in the Old Townn, which we did in the end. In general, hotel was already quite old and needs some renovation, but we knew about it in advance. All in all, it was a nice stay, just maybe a bit overpriced for what we got.

Holiday with friends (3 couples) to surprise a mutual friend living on island. Value for money, location of hotel to beach was superb and balcony view stunning. Hotel staff friendly and welcoming. Plenty to eat at breakfast. Only downside was intermittent air con in 1room which was a shame, it was changed on last day so no longer an issue for others!! Beach front relaxation

We had a seafront balcony with great views. We found the staff very friendly. For example they loaned us beach towels and a kettle and opened a bottle of wine for us when the corkscrew did not work. We had a day on the beach for 5 euros, 2 beds & umbrella from the hotel and at 6 euros 2 toasted sandwiches + a 500 beer was brilliant value brought to our sunbeds. The breakfast was good if not exceptional.

Stayed here in early November. It seemed as if we had the hotel and the island all to ourselves! Terrific staff, the man at the front desk was very helpful and super nice. The location couldn't have been more perfect-right on the beach and right next to a series of restaurants. The views from the balcony were beautiful. 10 minute walk to the old town and 15 minute walk from the bus central station. The shower stall was a little awkward, it was small and the curtain only went around half the stall so water would get everwhere afterwards. The room was very clean upon our arrival, but they didn't clean our room during our stay, we didn't mind too much as we barely stayed in the room, we were out and about for most of the day. They provide you with extra blankets. All in all it was a great place to stay, and I would stay at this hotel again the next time we come to Chania.

On beach within walking distance of Old Town

We were welcomed with a big, friendly smile from Mike, the owner/manager. He and his team are wonderful, helpful and always pleasant. The rooms are relatively plain but clean and adequate. The beds and pillows were somewhat firm but we managed to sleep just fine both nights we were in-house. We did have to put our earplugs in until after midnight but we often have to do that in other hotels as well. In a heartbeat we'd stay here again. The breakfast is good and there's a highly rated restaurant 2 doors down called Akrogialas. A great combo of location (right across the street from a beautiful beach), convenience and friendliness. Seaview rooms are booked until 2015!

Me and my friend stayed at Danaos last week. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was tidy and the changed bedding and towels once during our week stay. The breakfast was good, the home made yogurt was the tastiest yogurt I have ever had. The hotel is literally 5 meters from the beach. They provide a beach towels, and there are some book shelves in reception full of books in different languages. Would definately come back again. The first restaurant in the right hand side serves amazing meals. You have everything you need within a few meters of the hotel.

Right on beach!

We picked Danaos b/c of it's location, right across from the beach. That was awesome! It was extremely convenient to have a beach with umbrella and chairs right outside the hotel. We loved the location. It was not far, 10 minute, walk from the Venetian Harbor. The bathroom is small and the shower is right next to the toilet and only has a curtain so it was not very convenient. Our bed was pretty hard and the room was not very spectacular, but we didn't spend any time in there expect to sleep. The reception lady and owner were very nice and helpful. 2 spoke English very well, 1 was harder to communicate with.

Gem of a hotel!

This place is fantastic for the single person or couple not looking to spend a fortune, but wanting a clean room, great view, free wifi, and close to the city. Although the room was snug with everything in it, the balcony overlooking the was was spacious and the closet space was more than enough for my 4 day wardrobe and sports gear. The bathroom was also snug, but space management was good. The hotel interior is clean and nicely decorated with marble flooring and pleasant wall decorations. I did not eat breakfast in the hotel, but the dining room looked nice and well stocked with a variety of items. There is a large stocked refrigerator in the lobby with beers, wines, soft drinks and water. All cold! It was wonderful to be able to walk out the front door, pick up a cold drink, cross the street and have clean beach chairs and umbrella. If you scuba dive, blue adventures dive shop launches their boat 100 meters down the beach. The waters are very refreshing, great visibility underwater and no boat traffic between you and some fun rocks to climb on in the cove. It's a 10 minute walk to the heartbeat of the city along the harbor. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel and taxis are everywhere. There is a car rental shop also a block from the hotel. The hotel staff were all very friendly and took interest in me getting the most out of my vacation. For my needs, this was a great hotel and I would easily stay here again when I return.

The hotel is perfectly located - only a short walk, 15 minutes or so from Chania Old Town, and in the middle of a strip of excellent tavernas. Literally over the road from the beach. Bus stop opposite for Chania Bus Station. Hotel staff couldn't do enough for our comfort, providing extra pillows, booking hire car, always with a smile. Breakfast limited but more than adequate. A wonderful visit, recommend it without reservation, and will come again!

Excellent spot overlooking the sea and right there on the beach. A very nice spot in Chania too. Relatively cheaper than the tourist hotspots. Quiet and close ti lots of sea food restaurants. Close 15 min walk to city center and old town.

Hotels and room is a bit dated. Clean but old condition and could use a refurb.

Nice friendly service and they helped us rent a car for the day.

This hotel has a great location and amazing views. The harbor is a 10 minute walk away and the beach is literally on your doorstep. We stayed in a sea view room and the view was spectacular, the balcony was a great bonus. The beds weren't the most comfortable, but for the rate it was fine with me. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was OK, I could've lived without it, but nice to have something. I would stay here again. Tip: get the sea view room if possible - definitely worth the extra $$.

This place was had one of the best beach views i ever seen, its easy for walking around and explore resturants. Its avery cozy enviroment. Food is great and so are the prices for food and drinks. The hotel did not have a kettel in the rooms or even tea or coffe in the rooms, Bathroom was good. Bed was ok but should have a little bigger madress. Staff working there wer very kind and service minded, we stayed here for 2 nights and its was good. We will come back in the future to explore more.

Preis-Leistung voll in Ordnung

Prima Service, auch bei Spätankunft. Betten für unseren Geschmack aber zu weich...Duschkabine gut, kein Wasser im Bad. Frühstück ok. Die Strandmeile selbst ist eher ruhig, nur Restaurants, null Angebot abends wie Musikbars, Billard oder so, dafür muss man dann direkt nach Chania...Insgesamt aber absolute Weiterempfehlung.

OK frokost. Ikke gode senger( planker løsner under). Trangt ved toalett, men ellers bra bad. Meget god aircondition! Fantastisk personale!! Og helt perfekt beliggenhet!!! Vi har bodd her i ca 70 dager totalt, og vi kommer tilbake igjen...!

Hôtel en front de mer à 15/20 min à pied du port et de la vieille ville de chania.
Gentillesse, serviabilité, très bon accueil de tout le personnel.
La chambre pour 3 vue sur mer était parfaite. Propre, confortable et même un lit bébé pour notre fils.
La plage de sable devant est très bien pour les enfants.
C était super et on reviendra dans cet hôtel.

Posizione carina ma pulizia scadente

L’hotel è posizionato fronte spiaggia di Nea Chora, a circa 15 minuti a piedi per il centro cittadino / porto veneziano. Il suo piccolo parcheggio è posizionato a circa 300 metri su di una grande strada dove vi si può parcheggiare se non si trova posto all’interno di esso. Peccato che il servizio sia troppo scadente, un hotel non può cambiarti lenzuola ogni tre giorni e tovaglie ogni due e non effettuare pulizie di domenica.

Das Hotel liegt direkt an einem sehr schönen Stadtstrand von Chania. Die Altstadt und der venizianische Hafen sind flussläufig prima zu erreichen. Das Hotel ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Türen können nur zugezogen, nicht abgeschlossen werden. Aber wer seine Wertsachen bei sich trägt wird vom Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis begeistert sein. Die Zimmer mit Meerblick sind ein Traum! Wir würden es wieder buchen!
