We regularly eat here but this was the first time we had ever stayed overnight. Our bedroom was beautiful with lovely views over the garden. Really comfortable bed and clean linen. Good sized shower and had everything that you needed. Helpful staff and easy check in. Definitely recommend. We will be returning.

Stayed for 2 nights on Sat & Sun 6-8th December. We were greeted with a very busy pub but extremely attentive staff who could not do enough to make us feel welcome.
The room was well furnished with a retro vibe. If I am being over critical, I would say that the carpet in the room could do with a clean and the bathroom needs a bit of an upgrade. Having said that, apart from those minor issues, the room was very clean and comfortable. We were accommodated with dinner reservations despite not pre booking and the pub being very busy. The food on both nights was outstanding, as was the breakfast. The pub is very dog friendly and we were very comfortable having dinner with our dog which is a very important thing for us. Would highly recommend the Duke William for a good old fashioned pub with very comfortable accommodation and top notch dining.

This is about as good as it gets for a pub with rooms. I’ve marked some aspects as good, but they should very good, and some aspects as excellent, which also should be very good. Unfortunately the booking site doesn’t give “very good” as an option. Only things preventing an all round excellent review are; pub noise from downstairs (didn’t bother me, but will bother some people) and breakfast too late for me (again, won’t bother some people). The staff provide a picnic basket with cereals and pastries for early leavers.

A fantastic stay. Rooms just perfect. Lovely touch with the coffee machine and the fridge in the pantry with fresh milk and additional bottled water. Breakfast was excellent and far far beyond anything that you would expect at a pub type of stay. Location was quiet and a great base to explore Kent and the coastline. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Full marks for the Duke William’👏👏

Really quaint property with nooks and crannies - lovely garden area. Room was spotless as was the bathroom. The only negative was it was on the front over the bar and there was a very loud 'stag' party taking place underneath our room. We could hear the Landlord asking them to keep the noise down but eventually when they left around 11pm it was very quiet with hardly any traffic noise at all.

We arrived at 8.15pm and were worried we were too late to eat, bu we received a very warm welcome from a lovely young lady with long blonde hair, who told us that despite our lateness, we could check in before eating. We decided to eat straight away.
The food was delicious. I had ham and leek pie with buttery mash and cabbage and my husband had ham hock, egg and hash brown chips.
Our room COX was above the bar. It was comfortable and very well appointed. There was a small complimentary decanter of RUBIS, a chocolate ruby port, which was delightful.
There was a pantry down the hall, where you could help yourself to refrigerated milk and bottled water along with extra towels, loo rolls etc. The bed linen and towels were good quality. There was body wash /shampoo and condtioner in the shower and liquid soap by the sink.
The only thing that let it down was peeling lino by the shower and a the plug for the basin was detached.
Breakfast was very good. A breakfast hamper was provided as my husband had to leave very early on the second day.
The pub is in a lively village. It has a bar, restaurant, conservatory and plenty of seating outdoors with rural views.
All the staff were customer focused. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Highly recommended.

A Perfect Stay – We Didn’t Want to Leave!

My daughter and I stayed at the inn for one night during our trip exploring Kent — and we honestly didn’t want to leave! From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the warm, cosy interior of the inn made it feel like a true retreat.
Our room had everything we needed and more — from biodegradable shower caps and earplugs (thoughtfully provided, although the noise wasn’t an issue as the pub below closed early) to complimentary still and sparkling water, a small carafe of delicious Rubis chocolate wine, and plenty of coffee pods and tea. Milk and extra supplies were easily available from a pantry in the corridor.
The shower was divine — excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. The room was also stocked with books and games, and we ended our evening with a cosy game of Scrabble before sinking into a bed so comfortable we didn’t want to get up.
There’s a lovely beer garden at the back, with beautiful wooden benches, pots of ferns, sheltered and open seating, lit up with fairy lights in the evening. We enjoyed a peaceful stroll around the village and, on the morning of our departure, tucked into a five-star cooked breakfast at the inn — included in the price. We then followed a walking route suggested by the inn manager (maps available at the bar and in the room).
If we return to the area in the future, we’ll definitely stay at the inn again. It truly made our trip perfect.

A very comfortable 3 day stay in this Village Inn with very warm welcome and friendliness throughout - informal but professional. Cleanliness of both room and bathroom excellent with some extras provided in both.
Food and menu also excellent.
Ideal location to visit Canterbury (Park and Ride close by and very easy) and nearby coast.

Lovely Pub!

Wonderful break in a special pub. We really enjoyed our stay at the Duke William. The host Adam was a superstar and all the staff made our visit very special. The pub itself is the star, such a wonderful ambience, clearly loved by locals. The food is hearty and everything you want from pub grub. Our room was a little on the small side, so we had to squeeze to get around the bed, and it was on the warm side (but better that than being too cold). But lots of lovely little touches to make us feel welcome from the personalised note, to the scrummy chocolate port. The location of the pub made it a great central point to see the area being around 30 mins from Whitstable, Margate and closer still to Canterbury. Would definitely stay again if in the area, but perhaps not in the same room.

Quaint Village Pub with Rooms

The Duke William is an historic pub with rooms above. The food is amazing, staff are friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is quaint and the villagers are delightful. Betty, the pub dog, belongs to a villager, but spends her evenings at the Duke William. We highly recommend this adorable and relaxing establishment.

What a fantastic place to stay. A country pub set in a beautiful village. The pub overlooks fields. Our room was great -comfortable with quirky bits! - including a selection of books on the bookshelf to a little bottle of a liquor. Loved the pantry on the landing with fresh milk, bottles of water and extra toiletries. The breakfast is superb with a good selection of delicious items. We chose to eat in the pub - again it was absolutely delicious.

This has to be the friendliest pub in England. We felt we belonged to the community 😃. Fantastic service, absolutely delicious food made from local produce and cooked by a very skilled chef. The place was full of character, even down to creaky floorboards. We loved it.

The entire staff were extremely friendly and very thoughtful. We loved their humor and the fact that they made us feel like we were at home. Surrounding cities needed a car which we did not have so we took several taxis. We mainly enjoyed hanging out at the pub, walking thru the fields and visiting near by cities .
The room is above a busy pub if you are a light sleeper , did not bother us. We left early the day we departed and the assistant manager came in early to see us off and help with our luggage. Also, because we left early there was a basket outside our door with all kinds of goodies so we wouldn’t leave hungry. Great attention to detail. Great adventure!!! So happy that we made them part of our trip across the pond. Absolutely lovely!! Cute little phrase we picked up from our English new friends.

What a little gem of a place this is. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the pub, room and restaurant were fantastic. We stayed for a wedding nearby, and they were great in allowing us to pick the key up early and leaving our bags in the room. Shame we didn't book in for Sunday lunch - I would gladly recommend this pub for an overnight stay.

One Night Stay - Stormy Feb 2020

Chose this hotel to redeem an award night against. We stayed in the Ramsay room; which didn't suffer any noise from the bar or road as reported for other rooms.

Unfortunately it was really windy weather which meant the windows and air vent rattled most of the night - obviously can't expect the hotel to be responsible for the weather, but maybe room for improvement. Shower room was spacious, could do with a freshen up around the shower cubicle trim and the toilet seat lid was a bit 'snap happy'.

Staff were nice enough, not overly attentive. Got the impression they know they have a very popular venue.

Breakfast was amazing - we had full English and the ingredients were excellent.

Fabulous pub, log fire, candles, friendly staff. Had an issue with my dessert which they did add onto the bill but when i complained the next day they happily took off, although this should have been done at the time. If you are looking for a quiet night forget it. You can hear every conversation in your room from the pub downstairs.
