I loved this hotel. Stairs are not my friend and even though there is no elevator they had a ground floor apt for me. The people are lovely. I would stay here again. It’s an historic building and area thoughtfully cared for which speaks to my heart.

This hotel had a truly lovely location, very close to the water and the old town area that was so charming. We loved the building itself, and the decor in the common breakfast area was beautiful. Our actual room, however, was much less inviting. We had a queen bed, which was just two twin beds pushed together, and the interior was really bare. I like minimalist decor, but this was just kind of depressing. Good lighting maybe could have improved the ambiance, but the lighting was atrocious across the board. Insanely bright, bare bulbs hung from the ceiling, and the tiny, cheap lamps all blasted bright white light. All of the windows faced enclosed terraces, so natural light wasn’t much to speak of. It’s a shame because, the building itself was beautiful, and with a little thought, the atmosphere of the place could really be amazing. They also had small inconveniences that added up…the towel warmer didn’t work, the toilet seat was not fitted on the toilet properly, the shower door seemed to be missing part of it, they had a kitchenette with no soap, sponge, or coffee cups. I hope the management puts a little bit of effort and thought into improving this place because it really has such great potential.

We loved the history of the building, it was beautiful. Spacious rooms with outside sitting area. Walkable to all areas of interest in Ortigia and cafes and restaurants.

We cannot recommend staying at this hotel. In fact, we didn't even stay and chose to book elsewhere after check in. The photos in the listing are in no way comparable to the actual rooms. The furnishings were worn down, uncomfortable and not well kept. The bathroom had visible mold and was extremely old, not in a charming way. There is no AC in the bedrooms either. The clerk was not particularly welcoming or accommodating. There are many other hotels in the area, choose a different one.

Full of character (with a museum in the basement). Close to restaurants and other sights (the cathedral/museums etc...). Self catering in rooms is basic - better to eat out. About 120 Euro taxi ride from Catania airport. Reception is not 24/7 so arriving out of hours needs some advance planning. Reception staff are very helpful. Ortigia itself is tiny and you can walk everywhere. Don't forget your afternoon siestas.

Las fotos de la propiedad son una mentira. El cuarto estaba en pésimas condiciones, enchufes rotos góticos fundidos, la secadora de pelo rota colgando. E papel de baño lo ponen sobre una silla oxidada, las llaves de agua y la regadera están oxidadas, solo alcanza el agua caliente para una persona. Llegamos a abrir todas las ventanas por el olor a humedad y aromatizante. Hay un tapete que se te pega a los pies de lo sucio que está. El patio que sale en las fotos es un cuchitril lleno de basura Muy mal la verdad.

This is easily one of the most charming and wonderful hotel stays that we have had in years. We would not only stay here again, but highly recommend it. We chose and paid more for room 12, which I highly recommend. It felt like am apartment with three rooms rather than just a hotel stay - it had ocean views from two rooms. The location is A .

Room was spacious and well equipped in an ancient villa like atmosphere (used to be the Jewish public baths still visible in the ground floor).
At night (no staff to refer to) we could never figure out how to heat the room, so spent a rather cold December night.

We had a great stay at Alla Giudecca. It's very well located and had a nice ambiance. Breakfast was great and communication easy. The concierge helped us figure out parking and upgraded us to a larger room because it happened to be available. The beds are rather firm, but the spaces are charming and the hotel is just steps away from the water and many of the sights and restaurants. Highly recommend taking a tour of the Jewish baths on site if you have the chance.

My room was so far from the front desk down an alley with limited wifi. I asked them to move me the 2nd day. The bathroom had mold in the shower and the kitchenette needed updating. The blowdryer was broken and the mirror was old. This has a great potential for a hotel but needs updating. The room was big and could have been 2 rooms.

If you like rustic and history, this is undoubtedly the place for you. We loved it. Your neighbors are local people and you feel completely immersed in the local experience. The jewish baths were a plus, although we felt the charge for a 20 minute dissertation seemed a bit steep ( 7 Euros)
The buffet breakfast was worth the convenience, light but pleasing enough.
Our beddings and pillows was like lying down and smelling down feathers! This is how we sleep at home, and never, ever get down beddings in any hotel or bnb.
The staff, especially Jess were very helpful. They let us check in early and put us in a room that didnt require climbing steps, since my husband had a fairly recent knee surgery.
I would absolutely stay at this place again! There are restaurants near by and everything is in walking distance.
Wear comfortable shoes. Ortigia is mostly old cobblestones.

I wouldn't recommend this place.
It's an apartment, the rooms and bathroom are in the second floor, which has a very low ceiling, if you are 1,75m or more you can't walk standing up straight without hitting your head!
The shower had no effectively box, so all the bathroom gets wet.
The external window of the main bedroom was broken, and there was no black-out curtain, so we have sunlight in very early in the morning.
The breakfast could have more fresh fruits once it's a hotel in Sicily! Also the bread was over 9h20 and there was no refill!
They call this a hotel, but the reception is there only for a few hors a day and they can't help you even to call a cab!

Bursting With History And Charm

On our 7th visit to Ortiigia we could not book our usual preferred hotel and I remembered a friend had stayed here and so we booked.
A converted Palazzo built around a courtyard it also houses, in a basement, what is probably the oldest Mikvah in Europe.
The rooms are large and airy, ours was a small suite with a living room, compleate with a stone fire place, and terrace with views across the rooftops to the sea.
Very clean and comfortable, the whole building oozes charm and history.
Two things to remember:
There are no lifts (stairs are quite steep) and the property cannot be approached by a car.
The nearest point to be reached is about a 50 meter walk.
Service is polite, friendly and with a smile and we will certainly return.

Not Without Charm, Lacking Comfort & Hospitality

Good location & ambiance, but a long walk to room & many stairs to climb. Very good breakfast in nice dining room. We wanted 2 twin beds but got 1 double + 2 small cots. As one of us had an injury, it wasn't safe to stay in upstairs bedroom so was told the 2 cots below were daybeds. These turned out to be horribly lumpy without any support even to sit on. My friend suffered 2 miserable nights. The air conditioner did not work. Unable to connect wifi. Left phone charger & adapter in room, but when I contacted hotel was told it was not found. Receptionist not very friendly at check in.

Charming old building, good breakfast and a good walkable location. Very hard to find, AC problems, no tissues or soap, had to drag luggage up many steps - no elevator, shower is too small to move in, and only 2 inconveniently located electric outlets in the room. Also, the desk attendant was very rude at checkout and calling for our car so we could leave. Parking is a disaster.

We booked months in advance to the be told 2 days before that they were overbooked and that they had moved us to a hotel close by, however when we looked it was cheaper than what we’d paid for. I spoke to the hotel and all of a sudden they had room for us in an apartment which was lovely. Restaurant staff in the morning were unfriendly and we had to ask for a table to be cleaned for us which appeared to be an inconvenience. Reception staff were busy on phones and we were a bit concerned that when we asked for our passports back they were just laid behind reception and we pointed to them and they were just handed to us without anyone even checking if they were actually ours. We’ve stayed in Ortigia before and wouldn’t go back to this place.

We loved this property for its original unspoilt, tasteful character and the spaciousness of our apartment. The excellent breakfasts included superb homemade Greek yogurt, Grandma’s orange jam, delicious Sicilian chocolate cake and ricotta biscuit rolls. The staff in the breakfast room were very helpfuf and friendly as were all the people on reception. The location is perfect; quiet and convenient to explore all areas of Ortigia.

Nothing special but no complaints

The hotel is clean and in a nice/interesting section of Ortigia. The hotel itself has a nice look and feel. The room was spacious and clean but the beds (two put together to form a larger bed) are uncomfortable and the WiFi spotty. Free breakfast is fine (caffe, yogurt, fruit, eggs, juice, pastry, etc.) and the courtyard is very nice to have an apertivo (albeit a slightly overpriced one). All and all it’s perfectly fine but the next time we are in Ortigia we will look elsewhere as there a better hotels at this price point.

lovely little aparthotel in Ortiga

Had a great night staying here, very helpful staff, great location in Ortiga, near to the sea, across the alley from a cool cocktail bar, and round the corner form everything of interest in Ortiga. It was quiet and lovely, but watch the step form the reception to the breakfast room!
In terms of accommodation, the bedroom felt very cool and whilst there was a TV in the bedroom nothing in the sitting area, although if you wanted to sit in the hotel there were fantastic rooms to sit in, so not a difficulty if you want to spend a night in...but why would you with so much to see and do nearby? We went to the central square, various churches, and various shops and bars and to the fab daVinci and Archimedes exhibition.
In terms of accommodation more generally, the shower was a little 'antique' but a fair pressure and clean, and the staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was a good typical Italian affair with meats, cheeses and many breads, and they got me gluten free bread which helped make this better than the overly greasy or fruit only affair I normally have. Overall I would go back and really do recommend this hotel.

The staff was very friendly and corteous. The morning breakfast, which is included, was excellent -- awesome cannoli. Good facilities made the stay quite stress-free. The site itself is a piece of local history, at the heart of Jewish quarters. It is a walking distance from all the main attractions in Ortigia.

The staff here was very helpful and helped us book a rental car. However they were also very busy. The room was comfortable and well furnished. The street was narrow so the only noise came from motorcycles. This section of the city was an easy walk to the main square and there were many shops and a promenade along the coast close by. The lobby was comfortable and houses many artifacts from the historic mikva in the structure. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is quaint and lovely. It is located in a great place. We lost our luggage for three days and they sent us a goodie package with champagne and limoncello. The only disappointment is the breakfast that doesn't have any warm items.

The location is ok, but not nicest as you have to walk through deserted streets to go back after dinner. Really surprised that it had positive reviews.

There was a power cut and I think it is a problem the hotel being unmanned during late evenings & nights The hotel gave helpful info re transport and booked a very good taxi service for us. The hotel staff were all very friendly & helpful .

A fine facility in the historic Jewish Quarter of Siracusa. It has plenty of character, and each of the rooms is unique. We had the top floor attic room. Front desk and breakfast operation is a bit disorganized. The one downside is the difficulty of getting to the hotel if you are arriving by car. You have to park at the entrance to the island. We went to the parking lot we thought was allocated for hotel parking, but it turned out to be the short term lot and cost us one third the cost of the room per day. They need to be clearer about this.

Nice hotel with a non working air conditioner

Hotel is well situated and is really nice and cozy, however air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms didn't work, we complained, but it was not fixed. The bathroom was dark, some lightbalbs were off, water pressure inconsistent. breakfast was limited.

Overall the hotel was pleasent and very clean. Meticulous care has been taken to keep with the time period that the building was constructed. The breakfast was The staff was helpful and proficient. They assisted in finding us convient parking close to the hotel. While not having an on sight restaurant, the staff made recommendations to a number of local establishments to suit any tastes.

This hotel in ideal for a stay of a few days in Ortigia. It is a clever modernisation of an ancient building. The rooms are big and comfortable, but not five star luxury. Very fair value.

Lovely hotel if slightly quirky

Alla Giudecca is perfectly located on a very quite street a couple of blocks and a short walk from the main sights and eating and drinking options within Ortigia. The hotel is within a wonderful historic building which it makes the most of in terms of atmosphere. Our room was large, clean and had good, but not great, bathroom facilities together with a small kitchenette. The layout of the suite was slightly odd with some steep modern stairs leading up to a mezzanine. This wasn't idea with a 2 year old but could be good extra space. It had a nice little terrace where we could look over to rooftops too.

Small and beautiful!

I loved this hotel especially for its history. It is more like living in someone's home than being in a hotel. The breakfast each morning was wonderful and the staff were excellent. Finding the hotel was a little tricky but once we did we found it very convenient to anything we wanted to do. The wifi was available only in the downstairs lobby at the time we were there. The front desk is not your average hotel front desk. They are there only in the mornings. It was more like staying in a B&B. The tour of the miqwe was priceless. I highly recommend this lovely place.

Perfectly blended to the location.

As soon as you step inside the entrance lobby, it feels as if you are in a boutique hotel that blends perfectly with the streets of Ortigia. This is only enhanced by the exposed stone features and quality furnishings in the other public areas on the ground floor. The library/lounge is particularly delightful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, (room 9), with an airy lounge and shared patio balcony. Plenty of space if a little functional. The small kitchen area and fridge came in handy for the odd lunch or aperativo.

A delightful suprise

Narrow alleys with character ,friendly locals who even knowing we were tourists spent the time talking to us and clearly enjoyed sharing their life. Close enough to walk to the Duomo , the market -absolutely fab with traders offering advice and bending over to be helpful be it only for a couple of hundred grammes of pomodori secchi.
Our roof top appt was spacious ,with a view out to sea great for relaxing on an evening and an early morning read in peace we were not disturbed by any noises from the street and area.The only down side was a shower cabinet which was too small for any one with a waist of above 32" Towels were changed every day and fresh soaps laid out.
Staff were very helpful and clearly took pride in the hotel.Simply we would go back again at the drop of a hat.

this hotel is very well appointed,. Located in the charming neighborhood of Ortygia, it was a one of our best experiences travelling on a budget. Got great reviews from Trip Advisor, and justly. The staff is most friendly and efficient. The whole building is very spacious and full of old treasures. I highly recommend it for a great stay!

Comfortable apartment and helpful staff

We found we had an apartment for 3 nights, with separate bedroon, sitting room with kitchenette, bathroom and terrace with rooftop views. The apartment, along with others, was accessed through a lovely courtyard up a passage to the side of the hotel. Simply but comfortably furnished and quiet. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful and the receptionist insisted on carrying one of our bags up to the apartment. The lady looking after breakfast was similarly cheerful and helpful. We would though have liked an option of some fruit. The hotel, which has been well restored, is in a small side street and so is quiet and yet in the heart of the attractive old town of Ortigia. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again.

Great visit in Ortigia

I visited Alla Guidecca on the 13-21 of July with my mother. We had room no 14 which was at the top of the stairs. It could be a bit hard to walk up the stairs but the view was worth it. We could see the ocean on two sides of the balcony. The place was clean with a small kitchen. This was great as we could make coffee in the mornings and keep our water cold. The bedroom was separate from the living room - which is always a plus. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They arranged tours for us and found train times etc when needed. The breakfast was not the most interesting in the world but the best thing at breakfast were the drink options and the kitchen staff. They made fresh coffee after your choice and offered great granitas. We decided to stay in the old part of Siracusa called Ortigia. This was an excellent choice. The streets were winding and charming with old fashioned street lights that resembled gaslights - the area looked like something out of a pirate movie. We had a wonderful stay and would like to come back.

Old world charm in the heart of Ortigia,Syracuse

This hotel is a great place to stay tucked away down the ancient streets of Syracuse. We were taken here directly by prearranged pick up from Catania airport via Traveleze . A must when arriving is to ensure that the taxi drops you off at the Blue Bar at the end of Via G.B. Alagona (see address)with Via Nizza. Not to be confused with the Alla Giudecca B&B in the street of that name. We loved this place, a couple of streets away is a great store with lots of local supplies. Like all Italian towns, Syracuse is quiet between 2 and 4.30 when the day is at its hottest but each room has a small kitchenette and so we were able to stay in some lunchtimes/afternoons and chill out on our balcony. We had loads of space for the three of us. The hotel has some ancient ceremonial baths 18 meters underground which is open for the public to see by guided tour on the hour between 11 and 6. It only lasts about 10 minutes but the receptionist does it. So if you do turn up while they are showing people around it is well worth waiting. I would stay here again. The staff were all helpful and friendly . Even when we ended up arriving really late because of the flight and the taxi error we were able to get some help. There is a small door bell on the RHS of the gate(access only by key in the evenings)and the owner let us in . I would recommend this to anyone

Stunning hotel at very good rates

Perfect location in a quiet street in Ortigia. Staff very helpful and friendly. Lovely, smart hotel. Absolutely beautiful building.

We had an apartment with galley kitchen for a very good price.

One very minor gripe: the breakfast cornetti were industrial, not fresh but there was freshly squeezed orange juice every day, which made up for it.

Would recommend this hotel!

Historic Ortija

Excellent location in the old jewish quarter of Siracusa,sympathetic refurbishments to these historic buildings ,made it a fantastic experience and a good base to explore the many attractions of Ortija and beyond. Authentic features have been retained throughout the hotel and apartments.The staff spoke English and were very helpful. A visit to see the recently excavated,ancient jewish ritual baths beneath the hotel is a must!

A very nice hotel in the greek part of Ortygia in Siracusa (on the east side, away from the large crowds). Nice breakfast buffet but not very fancy. Wonderful small alleys surrounds the hotel, lots of restaurants a couple of minutes away. You can swim close by, from a platform of scaffolding built by the locals. If you want to go to the beach, there is a small strip on the west side of Ortygia, otherwise rent a car and head a few miles south.

Old City charm

We had been a little concerned about the quality of accommodation in Alla Guidecca. It was advertised as an apartment and showed very few pictures.

However the accommodation itself was great - two bedrooms, a living/dining room with kitchenette plus a good bathroom. Not to mention a roof terrace. The hotel also had a spacious dining area for breakfast . It probably wouldn't suit people who prefer a place that has power showers, etc. as opposed to character, which it definitely had!

Ortiga is a nice old town to relax and wander - difficult to match elsewhere in Sicily. That said it probably wouldn't suit those wanting to pack lots into their holiday. It's a good base for trips to Etna, Taormnina, and other towns such as Noto (we were fortunate to catch the flower festival) but these become all-day affairs if taking public transport and because of Ortiga's location.

As for public transport - the buses are the simplest and are reliable. Get a AST or Intercity bus from the airport to Syracuse then the free No. 20 to Ortiga.

Reallt nice place to stay

Ortigia is definitely the place to stay when you come to Syracuse. Great place for wandering around the streets. Hotel was lovely. Staff at reception spoke excellent English and was very helpful re what to see etc. Room was lovely and spacious. Hotel was really cool as it was a medieval building. It's not right in the centre of things in Ortigia but that's fine as it is all within walking distance- there was a lot of renovation work going on in the area and was a little noisy in teh morning as the streets are so narrow sound travels a lot but thats all part of the cool atmosphere of the place.

Had high expectations but this place did not meet them. Not really a hotel more like an apartment/room. Our bathroom smelt horrible and room was fairly basic. Some other rooms looked quite nice though. Breakfast was nice and staff helpful but generally quite an odd place. You have to pay to see the attraction within the hotel! Syracuse also not what it was made out to be, very pleasant but dull! Not much happening there are much nicer places to see in Sicily.

Lieu magnifique mais …

Alla Giudecca se situe dans une jolie ruelle sur l’île d’Ortigia. L’influence orientale du lieu donne une impression de parenthèse magique aux accents des milles et une nuit. La chambre est très spacieuse, dispose de tout le nécessaire mais le confort est un peu en-dessous de ce à quoi on pourrait s’attendre. Le lit grince, le linge de lit sentait l’humidité (sûrement lié aux murs en pierre qui rendent difficile le séchage) et la chambre manque globalement de cœur.

Tunnelmallinen hotelli loistavalla sijainnilla. Rakennus kuin olisi museossa asunut hyvässä mielessä. Huoneessamme oli kaksi kerrosta ja aivan upea kattoterassi näkymineen kaupungin ylle. Merikin näkyi ja näkyy osaan huoneista. Palvelu oli avuliasta ja saimme varaustammekin muutettua helposti kun olin varannut väärät päivät erehdyksessä. Aamupalahuone myös todella mukava ja aamupala oli oikein riittävä.

La habitación era en realidad un mini apartamento, con mucho espacio y una cama bastante cómoda;muy silenciosa de noche. El baño obsoleto y la limpieza general no ha estado a la altura de las expectativas. Necesitaría una renovación.

Dette er det mest spesielle hotellet jeg har bodd på. Ingen luxus, men utrolig mye sjel og en helt spesiell opplevelse! Nydelig sted og veldig god service. Er et gammelt adelshus, med en koselig bakhage. Ligger midt i smørøyet i den gamle delen av Siracusa. Er en del trapper og har ikke restaurant/bar så vær obs på det. Men opplevelsen er svært autentisk og noe man husker lenge!
