My husband & I stayed 2 nights in mid-May 2025. We loved this historic and fascinating B&B within a current convent (yes, we saw the nuns!). Comfortable 2nd floor room that opened onto a quiet, shared, shaded terrace. There’s also a ln upper terrace with seattle & sea views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Note: wifi was very unreliable. We parked our rental car at the Talete garage about 10 minutes walk, for €15 per 24 hrs. Overall, this was a great location for us in Ortigia.

The first room we checked into had ants. The replacement room did not have the view I paid additionally for Amenities sated included valet parking and an indoor pool. That was false, parking was self-service in a lot about 10 blocks away. Also state there was an indoor pool but failed to state the pool was part of a spa package for which a reservation and fee were required. I would have expected more honesty.

Hotel is in a beautifully restored convent. Our room was large and airy and had air conditioning. The roof terrace was wonderful to sit in and admire the view of the sea. Staff were so welcoming and helpful.

Ortigia hotel with spa hosted by nuns

We spent 2 nights in beautiful walkable Ortigia. The hotel was lovely, but difficult to reach by car because of heavy traffic when we arrived. Parking was 15-20 Euro per day, and City occupancy tax was 5 Euro per person per night. Breakfast (13 Euro per person) had to be paid cash. Aside from these unexpected charges it was great! The pool was nice.

It’s an older building, which is to be expected of course. The space (bathroom & bedroom) were really nice and sizable compared to many European rooms we’ve encountered. It’s just due for a bit of an update in my opinion, but I would happily stay there again. Great location and nice value!

If you are looking for a hotel with all facilities you may be disappointed. This is a nice B&B - no bar or restaurant. The rooms have sea view through a small window, but no balcony. \"Sun Terrace\"is in the shade from 2.30pm. Great location on the island, and lovely walks around Syracuse.

This property is beautiful. It used to be a convent. The room and bathrooms were spacious. It’s a short walk to piazzas, markets, restaurants. Parking is down the street for E20. There is an rooftop area that overlooks the water. I would definitely stay here again.

Location was great but there is no parking. There is a parking lot in front of hotel but good luck getting a spot as locals park there. We ended up parking in public lot and walked to hotel - about 10 minutes. Thought the room was small with one tiny window covered in heavy curtains so “sea view” was disappointing. The terrace is nice but it was too hot to use in August. Overall, thought the hotel was tired in desperate need of freshening.

Ever fancied entering a convent?

Hotel building is part of a convent/chapel complex.Quite a grand building beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean, single room was very comfortable with good space.
Parking around the hotel is quite difficult and is likely to result in a 5-10 minute walk with your bags.

The property is in an excellent location for the old town of Ortygia. Unfortunately graffiti has been daubed upon many of the lovely old buildings in the town which is so sad and spoils the look of the town. Parking is on the road but only part of it is free. If you don't find a spot the nearest car park is £15.00 per night.
Our hotel room was quiet and the bed was comfy and we could not fault the cleanliness of the property. Excellent value for money.
The buffet breakfast was good but lacked any green stuff or salad. Omelettes were an extra 3 euro, and an extra charge applied for more than two hot drinks. There were no additional tea making facilities in the rooms.
The swimming pool was overpriced and for that reason we did not use it. The bikes were in a state of poor repair and two did not look useable.
The rooms to the front of the hotel had a sea view. Our room was more to the back of the property and was dark. There was a window but it looked out on a blank corridor leading to other rooms. The room lights had to be kept on during the day. I'm not sure how the room could be improved. It is what it is and at the end of the day it was not a problem for us.
Throughout the hotel there were religious pictures and ornaments. It added to the ambience of the place and did not bother us at all. All of the staff were helpful and friendly.
It was a lovely stay and the points I have raised did not spoil the overall enjoyment of our holiday.

We liked the accommodations. The location was great. Only a few minute walk to the main piazza.

Great shopping in the out door market.

The woman at the desk was very nice and very helpful. Otherwise the amenities were sub-par. There was not an airport shuttle like advertised, and the spa and pool area that was advertised was only available at additional cost which was not stated anywhere prior to booking. Both of them were sub-par once we paid anyway. It was a let down. I would have booked elsewhere if I knew these things were the case ahead of time.

Excellent location for everything you would want to do and see on Ortigia Island. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful.
The hop-on hop-off bus location was less than 500 m away.

A lovely, large hotel in Ortygia

I stayed here for 1 night only due to Etna causing flight delays. It's a lovely hotel, I believe it used to be a nunnery?, and I was able to get a true single room (small room with a twin bed), that was nicely and comfortably appointed. The staff were nice & helpful & even packed me a \"to go\" breakfast bag with prepackaged baked goods as I was leaving at 4am. The hotel is decorated in a older style -- very beautiful but not modern or hip. It does have some spa and exercise options, which is likely appealing to some. I'd definitely stay there again in a pinch, even if it isn't in *my* style. You would not be doing yourself a disservice in any way :-)

A beautiful place in a terrific location!

The room was very comfortable and spacious with an unobstructed view of the Mediterranean sea. The breakfast was the best and most varied of any place we stayed at during our 10 day trip (both in quality, unusual variety and setting), while the location in the historic center couldn't have been better for walking from one end of the historic district to the other. But most importantly our hosts generously gave us their sincere attention, expert knowledge and welcoming hospitality throughout, making us always feel at home. Many thanks again!, and we look forward to being back with you some day soon.....

Wonderful base for first visit to Sicily

The hotel is a peaceful, characterful and very comfortable base for exploration of Syracuse and its environs. In a sheltered spot (cars parked and passing but not heavy traffic) facing directly on to the sea, the atmosphere has the calm of its still visible religious associations: it even has access to its own church. Hotel management is relaxed and helpful: despite occasional language difficulties when the desk was more lightly staffed (that's our difficulties - we don't speak Italian!), hotel staff helped us arrange excursions e.g. to Etna, or to Montalbano locations, even out of the main season as late October is. (Montalbano tours were over, but the wonderful driver we had showed us how much more there was to Modica, Ragusa, and Punta Secca than mere Montalbano reference, and also made time for us to see Noto). We had two small but exceptionally comfortable single rooms. All in all this was a wonderful six days of full-on exploration interlaced with restful nights and great breakfasts.

We spent two nights in Orchigia. The hotel is beautiful and has a very well kept internal chapel. The chapel entrance is through the hotel lobby so it becomes almost exclusive to the hotel. There is also a nice terrace with a nice view to the sea. The staff is very friendly and everything is within walking distance. The breakfast is very good

A religious surprise

We had to change rooms, as our first one was beside a stairway, with no windows. The 2nd room had just one set of towels for 2 people, and it took 3 trips to the front desk to get more towels. Breakfast was good, but hot drinks limited to one cup per person.
We had not realized the hotel was a former (?) convent, with a chapel and many crucifixes and other articles of faith. Had we known, we would have chosen another hotel.

Wonderful Experience!

Wonderful warm and welcoming experience at Domus Mariae Benessere in Ortigia, Siracusa, Sicily.
I had six restful nights there in early September, 2015. I had injured my leg earlier in my holiday so did not do as much exploring as I would have liked. The only thing I found hard to take was the heat when outside, but the air conditioning inside was great. I found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Most understood some English, a few spoke quite good English so I was always understood.
There is a very good continental buffet breakfast from 8 - 10 am, with plenty of pastries, bread, cereals, cold cuts meat, organic fruit, yoghurt. This is constantly replenished over the breakfast period. Eggs and some other hot breakfast foods can be ordered if required.
There are plenty of little restaurants within easy walking distance for typical Siciian meals, seafood is always on the menu. Some open for lunch about 12 noon, but 1pm to 3pm is the 'norm'. Dinner is more usually from 7pm.
I highly recommend this hotel.r

The hotel is very conveniently located to explore the older parts of the city and a public shuttle bus leaves from just in front for the bus station and the out-of-town archeological site. The hotel itself is very comfortable and fitted out to a high standard. Service is efficient and friendly. Breakfast was very good. Parking is an issue throughout the city but we were lucky and found a space right outside the hotel, in practice we didn't then need to use the car for two days.

The B&B is in a great location. We managed to park almost outside but be careful you only park in a white bay as the yellow ones are for residents and only the day before the police had fined 3 groups of guests who were not aware of this and parked in the yellow spaces.
The rooms are huge with probably the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. You have a safe and mini fridge. There is terrace on the top floor with swing seats and comfy sofas they could make more use of with say a small bar.
There are religious symbols and paintings around but none of this is oppressive. We had a nun show us where to have breakfast which was novel!

Although the outside is unremarkable (it is an old convent building), the inside is very attractive. The staff on the desk and in the breakfast room were friendly and helpful though it's best if you can speak at least some Italian (we found this everywhere in Sicily). The room was pleasant, comfortable and quiet. Parking on Ortygia (a small and very old island) is difficult but we visited in early April and had no trouble. All in all, a very good stay in the most historic part of town.

Fuyez!!! Établissement à la direction obtus qui a un besoin urgent de se tenir informée des normes europeennes sur la validité des passeports, cartes d'identité et permis de conduire. Si vous voulez passer une heure à essayer de faire comprendre vos droits, vous êtes au bon endroit. Cet établissement vous propose même de dormir là et que votre mari aille dormir ailleurs, un veritable sketch.
Donc un triple zéro pour cet hôtel, le seul de Sicile avec un accueil aussi stupide et déplorable.

La struttura e bella e elegante, gestita dalle suore e con personale laico.Molto centrale. La nostra camera era abbastanza buia ma immagino che ci saranno anche camere più belle nella struttura. Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral. Alles ist fussläufig erreichbar. Parken ist eine große Katastrophe. Wir haben vor der Stadt geparkt und sind mit dem Taxi zum Hotel gefahren. Wir hatten Zimmer mit Meerblick gebucht; das war ein wenig enttäuschend, da wir nur ein sehr kleines Fenster zum rausgucken hatten. Ansonsten alles prima

Un hôtel très sympa. L’accueil fut très chaleureux et le service a été irréprochable. Les chambres sont spacieuses et propres. L’emplacement de l’hôtel est également stratégique pour visiter l’île d’Ortigia, qui est vraiment à voir !

Ottimo hotel gestito da religiosi comodo per visitare Ortigia. Pulizia e camere molto buone. Colazione in camera per via del Covid, purtroppo un po' da rivedere ma la situazione è quella che è.

Super hôtel, pour info tenu par des religieuses, ultra propre nous avions une chambre immense calme avec 2 lit 1 personne xxl. La réceptionniste qui a fait notre cheek in était extrêmement professionnelle, nous demandant toute de suite si nous étions bien garé pour ne pas avoir de soucis avec la police. Elle nous a indiqué de super resto dans ortigia.
Le petit déjeuner est également très bien. Si un jour je reviens à Syracuse je sais ou je dors👍
