Disappointing Stay at Resort La Francesca - Not Recommended

We had a reservation at Resort La Francesca from September 8th to September 13th, but due to a poor experience, we ended up leaving a day early. The stay was truly disappointing.

As soon as we checked in and entered our accommodation, we realized it was nothing like what we had booked. The unit was on the ground floor, dark, and outdated, with everything old. The \"sea view\" advertised on the website did not match the reality of the house we were given.

The house was sparsely equipped. There were barely any dishes, no TV, and not even a coffee machine! If you're considering staying here, be prepared to feel like you're camping.

I went back to the reception to complain and requested something closer to what we had reserved. They gave us another ground-floor unit, slightly better with less overgrown vegetation, where we could at least see a glimpse of the sea.

As we explored the so-called resort, we noticed it was in a state of disrepair with very poor maintenance. Everything was old, and the bar, supermarket, and restaurant were only open for limited hours during the day and afternoon. The children's pool was completely empty, and other leisure areas like the tennis courts and playground showed clear signs of neglect.

If you're planning to visit Levanto, be prepared for a long, steep walk down and a tough climb back up. The shorter path from the resort to the tunnels was closed off and had clearly been neglect

A beautiful location, right on the Mediterranean Sea. Individual units are private. Parking was convenient by European standards. Staff was quickly responsive to requests.

we left after 4 hours.

Driving to and in resort is scary, you are hanging on a cliff in a very very narrow -one car- road a mile in the sky. I am a good driver but couldn't avoid scraping the rocks and ruining the right front end of my rental car as I climbed up the zigzagging 70 degree road from the restaurant -which was closed -back to our unit. I couldn't imagine what would happen if there was another car coming down as we were driving up, it would've been an accident as the road is for one car. NO wifi service period in the unit. We had 2 towels only and NO shampoo . There's is a mini market in the resort which was a joke...,they open limited hours and didn't even sell drinking water or shampoo. the next place to buy anything is 10-15 miles away if you survive driving. There's a tunnel you could walk down the Beech to town but walking back up the cliff will be very tough. We were asked to take out trash before leaving and wash dishes if we use them.!!!??
I dropped the keys in the mailbox and left 4 hours after arriving. I have left 2 hotels in my entire life of traveling after Checking in , this was number 3.

A bit of a disappointment that there was not much amenities open, the room was only basic with old fittings but had the most lovely views from room and very peaceful until the above neighbors arrived then very noisy most of time scraping furniture around the room,, it is very hilly and not for the faint hearted,,, but as expected this area is of the most outstanding beauty and would definitely be recommending a visit to this area again

Peaceful location with budget in mind

This accommodation was comfortable. clean and had fantastic ocean views. It was in preparation for winter shut down but we just wanted a quiet and clean place to stay - this place delivered. Access to Cinque Terre / Levanto is good but you must like to walk! Pathways to Bonasolla & Levanto were beautiful. Surrounding villages are great too. Was great value & would recommend - don't expect the Ritz - just enjoy the surroundings, which are stunning. Staff were friendly too.

Dirty and not equiped for an \"apartment\" status

The setting was beautiful and accessible. But the resort was run down and we had to buy a lot of things that should of been provided which added more of an expense to our trip. Lots of broken things including toilet seat, etc

Peaceful with Views

The location was remote, but beautiful and quiet. There is a nice walkway along the coast into Levanto, and it is flat and easy once you get down the hill—but hills are the point of Cinque Terre. The services on the hotel grounds are in good condition, but are somewhat limited especially as to when they're open. There really is no beach, although there is access to the sea, and it is very pretty. The beach at Levanto is only a short (20 min?) walk and it is extensive. The restaurant at the bottom of the hill has a limited menu, but is pleasant. Again, we went into Levanto and found many restaurant options. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the sea in the evening was fantastic. Almost all of the house have a terrace available. This peaceful oasis was a nice change from the hustle/bustle of the typical Italian cities. The access to the ferry and the Cinque Terre is great. You either need your own car to get there, or take a taxi from the train station (about 15-20 Euros in June 2015).

Beautiful view, but extremely inconvenient.

La Francesca, while located in a beautiful spot, should really only be considered if you drove in. Otherwise, the hike in and out of Levanto isn't practical, especially after a full day of activities. We ended up cabbing every night (€15-20 depending on who you get). The facilities themselves were clean, but probably more suited for the '80s. They require that you clean your own dishes or there's a pretty heavy fine.

Front staff was very kind though, and helpful. The experience wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't recommend it if that makes sense.

My stay was in late May and both pools were closed. Nothing at the so called resort is easily accessible. It takes about 30 minutes or a 15€ taxi drive just to get to Levanto train station. Then you must get on a train in order to get to Monterosso. Not a good location at all.

Remote and calm

The La Francesca resort is located in a beautiful area just north of the more-famous Cinque Terre refuge. However... The walk to the nearest train station to get to Cinque Terre proper is 40 minutes, which isn't easy for older folks. The resort itself is an entire section of hillside, but each cabin is old, with 1970s decor. Their restraunt was good, if a bit pricey, but good - the problem is that to pick another place to eat, you'd have to travel quite a ways because the resort is a bit remote from any other restraunts. There really is no service to speak of - they don't have maid service. The cabins are in passable condition - not falling apart, but definitely need a sprucing up. The rooms don't have climate control, so windows must be used - which is nice, but it makes the rooms and beds damp from the ocean air. It was fairly easy to drive to, but I certainly wouldn't recommend taking a train to this resort because you'd have to hoof it quite a ways. Overall, beautiful surroundings, and nice resort - but who goes to Cinque Terre just to stay in one remote place and not visit the rest of the cities? It was very overpriced.

We wanted to see Cinque Terre, and chose to stay at La Francesca. I would rather have stayed in Bonassola or Levanto for this purpose. La Francesca was a bit off for us. PLUS about La Francesca: Beautiful location, very quiet, great pool area. MINUS about La Francesca: very expensive and poor quality of rooms (it is no more than 3 star). We booked a room With sea view - but too many large trees all over the place, and we could not see the Ocean at all. Strict rules and little flexibility.

Pool is always close, if you don't have a car , it's a problem because the personal don't care about you and you Will havé to transport your luggage alone in the mountain . The don't transport you at the train station as they write on there web site.

Inconvenient location

The location of the hotel is beautiful. It is up on a mountain overlooking the gorgeous sea, falling directly between levant and Bonassola. Unfortunately, our train got in late to Monterosso, and the taxi would have been 80-100 euros. We spent the night in Monterosso, and travelled to La Francesca in the morning. It is an inconvenient location unless you have brought your own car. We did not bring our own car, so we spent 15 euros to get up to the hotel from Bonassola. The taxi itself was very hard to get, as Bonassola is such a small town. This is a fine hotel if you plan on staying in one place for your entire vacation, not venturing out into nearby towns for exploring and dining. I will not return to La Francesca!

Nice self contained room, but

Nice self contained room, but quite isolated place to stay if you don't have a car. We relied on taxis which was expensive. The seafood restaurant at the bottom of the hill was nice, with a small shop attached for supplies but the walk back up was rather hard work! Nice place to base yourself for Cinque Terre, surrounding towns have lovely restaurants. Interesting experience trying to have a swim in the hotel pool (think it's an italian thing...) where we had to wear swimming caps. Also had problems getting replacement towels and toilet paper, 'apartment' didn't get serviced during our stay at all. Would give it an overall average rating.

Decent option for a family stay in Cinque Terre

When I made the reservation, I think I expected more of a hotel/suite-type setting. This is more of a glorified camping village. While the apartments are clean and furnished, they are pretty basic (and smell strongly of cleaning products). It's similar to renting a beach condo in the US - you can cook for yourself, but at the end, need to make sure the kitchen is clean, trash is out, etc... It is excellent for families wanting to stay in the Cinque Terre for an extended vacation (there's a pool, beach access, sundries store, a restaurant a couple times a week), but wasn't what we expected for a romantic honeymoon escape (having said that, I maybe could have researched more on my end before booking). One plus, though, is that they take online reservations, unlike many hotels in this region!

Erholung pur - kein Luxus Resort

Das Resort ist wirlich in die Jahre gekommen. Wer es Retro mag, der wird es hier lieben. Die Häuser sind sehr einfach eingerichtet und es ist zu empfehlen ein Moskitonetz für das Bett mitzubringen.
Die Aussicht ist unbezahlbar und das klare Wasser eigent sich prima zum schnorcheln. Es gibt einen kleinen Privatstrand, ist die Brandung jedoch zu stark muss man ein sicherer Schwimmer sein, um ins Wasser zu kommen. Vorteil: Wir haben keine Feuerquallen gesehen (an anderen Stränden in der Nähe jedoch sehrwohl.)
Es ist sehr ruhig in der Anlage und man trifft auf nette Urlauber.
Der Shop hat leider nur morgens 2 Stunden geöffnet und das Parken kostet 8/Tag.

Une seule chose est belle dans cettte \"hôtel\", pardon, camping c'est la vue...
Aucun entretien. Un piscine, pardon une marre dans un état lamentable. Des terrains de tennis, pardons, des terrains vagues. Etc etc.
Un restaurant hors de prix ou la nourriture est vraiment pas bonnes et froides, avec des tarifs dignes d'un gastro. Bref, pour faire des photos cest tres bien pour le reste à fuir !

Logement agréable. Pas assez de place sur le parking pour les appartements. Parking para tu alors qu'il est gratuit si on passe directement par l'hébergement. La propreté était ok. Les serviettes étaient toutes neuves mais ne semblait pas avoir été lavées. Piscine fermée en mai PCS il ne fait pas assez beau ! Très bien cependant dans l'ensemble..

Die Wohnung war voll von Ameisen! Am Boden und vor allem im Badezimmer (Sogar oberhalb der Dusche - das gesamte Duschgestell war voll) und auf den Frottetüchern! Der Junge an der Reception war zwar sehr nett und hat versucht die Ameisen zu vernichten, aber am nächsten Morgen war es wieder voll und das schlimmste, wir hatten Ameisen sogar im Koffer und auf den Kleidern. Sie wollten uns eine andere Unterkunft geben - aber für uns war es zuviel und wir wollten nur noch weg!
Schlussendlich gabs keine Rückerstattung weder von der Unterkunft noch von Hotels.com. Im Gegenteil... seitens Unterkunft gabs noch Vorwürfe, dass mit Esswaren Ameisen kommen - wir hatten jedoch keine Esswaren dabei. Einfach nur traurig und nicht zu empfehlen.

Die Unterkunft ist stark in die Jahre gekommen. Markise kaputt, Herdplatte verrostet, Bad riecht unangenehm (kein Fenster oder Abluft). Das obere Schwimmbad darf man nur mit Badekappe benutzen. Das hätte man vor Ankunft mitteilen können oder auf der Seite einen Hinweis hinterlegen. Für 3€ bekommt man dort eine. Kinder dürfen nicht springen und nicht Ball spielen auch wenn keiner mehr im Pool ist. Im unteren Schwimmbad darf man das alles aber nur bis 10 Jahre. Und maximal 8 Kinder. Der sehr steile Weg nach unten zum Meer ist eine Herausforderung für ältere Menschen. Schade dass es keine Art Shuttle gibt, denn mehr als 2 x war die Strecke von ganz oben bei den Temperaturen nicht drin. Die Lage und die überwältigende Sicht auf das Meer sowie das so schöne klare Wasser, haben alles andere aber wieder gut gemacht. Wer Ruhe und Erholung möchte und fit beim wandern ist, ist hier richtig.

La struttura è sulle colline di Bonassola, raggiungibile tramite strada di montagna stretta ma asfalata. Sono arrivata in serate e ho trovato una busta per il late check in. La camera che mi è stata assegna aveva la serratura difettosa e entrare in stanza non è stato agevole.
La camera non aveva ne sapone per lavare le stoviglie ne spugnette. Solo la scopa per pulire.
In bagno è comparsa una specie di gatta pelesa, e la mattina seguente le formiche.
Il parcheggio ( a pagamento) non è custodito e scarsamente segnalato. Sei praticamente obbligato a pagarlo perchè intorno non vi sono posteggi. L'unico pregio, la tranquillità e il silenzio.

N'est pas le paradis que ça devrait être !

Le site est merveilleux, à l’écart des foules des Cinque Terres. Il faut une voiture car sans être très loin de Levento, ce n’est pas accessible facilement à pied. Bâti sur la montagne qui plonge jusqu’à la mer, le resort la domine et offre des vues magnifiques. L’architecte à construit les villas à deux chambres trop près les unes des autres et si vous n’en avez pas une en première ligne, vous avez une vue très intrusive des toits de celles devant. Ce fut notre cas au 623 ! Grande piscine en partie haute du resort (n’oubliez pas votre bonnet de bain). Une autre piscine près de la mer, pour les enfants, mais elle était fermée pour notre séjour du 11 au 14/09/2022. Accès à la mer avec une plage de galets, qui se mérite à la remontée !
Excellent restaurant chez Leonardo avec une immense terrasse pour admirer la mer et les couchés de soleil (remontée idem à celle de la plage !). Le garçon qui gère le resort est super gentil, aimable, serviable. Tout serait donc presque parfait si les villas avaient été modernisées depuis leur création. Tout est vieux, pas très propre et avec de nombreux dysfonctionnements. Pas de clim, l’été ce doit être intenable ! C’est vraiment dommage. Un grand coup de neuf est vraiment nécessaire !

Très cher et vétuste

Mon compagnon s’etait occupé de la réservation et il pensait que c’était un hôtel. Et bien non! Nous considérons l’endroit comme un camping. Notre logement était très vétuste et je ne pensais plus jamais revoir une petite télé cathodique qui n’était même pas réglée. Nous avons été envahi de fourmis. Pas de climatisation, juste un ventilateur bruyant au plafond dans la chambre.
A plus de 150€/nuit (j’inclus les 8€/jour pour le parking) je trouve cela très cher.
En points positifs : endroit calme, beau point de vue et grande piscine (attention bonnet de bain obligatoire qui peut être acheté à 2,5€ sur place.

Site superbe, mais expérience moyenne

Les photos sur le site donnent envie et elles sont tout à fait réalistes : le resort donne sur la mer, et la vue est superbe, à flanc de montagne. Le site est vraiment très, très beau. Enorme point fort : la petite plage privée en contrebas de la résidence, au calme, très, très agréable, là, c'est superbe, rien à dire. 15 minutes pour remonter à pied à la chambre (c'est raide, mais c'est cool). On se gare facilement dans des petits parkings non loin des cottages, à l'intérieur de la résidence.
Nous n'avons pas eu de cottage privatif (l'expérience doit y être meilleure, mais les prix sont prohibitifs l'été), nous avons donc séjourné dans une chambre du bâtiment principal. C'est vieillot, assez sombre, et pas du tout isolé : il y fait donc une chaleur terrible. Pas de clim, ni de ventilateur : la nuit, vous crevez de chaud, et vous êtes donc obligé d'ouvrir la porte-fenêtre du balcon pour avoir un peu d'air, mais qui donne directement sur les balcons de vos voisins. Vous êtes à la merci de leur comportement - car vous entendez tout ce qui se passe à gauche, à droite, et au-dessus : pas agréable du tout, du tout. Intimité zéro ! Piscine où l'on vous demande 2,50€ de bonnet de bain obligatoire par personne. On ne vous fournit qu'un seul rouleau de PQ par séjour (vous en trouverez à acheter au minimarket). Etat d'esprit un peu pince... Le site est très beau, mais qu'est-ce que j'y ai mal dormi.

Cadre exceptionnel et très calme avec vue sur la mer, c'est exactement ce que nous recherchions. En revanche, le mobilier de la salle de séjour est vétuste... peu importe en ce qui nous concerne.... Rien à dire sur la propreté, c'était parfait ! La literie était très bien.

Resort solo sulla carta, pulizia appena decorosa e servizi annessi molto scadenti .

Avevo scelto il Resort La Francesca per la sua posizione nella vallata. Abbiamo cambiato l' alloggio assegnato dopo aver segnalato la mancanza di acqua calda. Anche il secondo alloggio ( di classe superiore ) era estremamente modesto sia nell' arredamento che nelle camere e poco rispondente al prezzo pagato . Mare splendido ma nessun servizio di navetta per raggiungerlo ( 20 minuti di salita ripida per il rientro ). Minimarket e bar appena decorosi!!!! Ristorante ( splendida terrazza con vista mozzafiato sul mare ) modestissimo con piatti tutti da reinventare . Gestione del Resort tutto da riorganizzare !!!! Fortunatamente avevo prenotato solamente per due notti !!!! Personale gentile e cortese.

Posizione ottima residence mal tenuto,costoso.

Posizione buona ristorante buono con prezzi adeguati. Appartamento per 2 con dotazione scarsa e scadente. 3 piatti e scodelle 3 posate e bicchieri un'unica pentola senza padella,frigo vecchio televisore anni 90 con visione offuscata e pochi canali visibili. Letto e materasso buono,bagno minimo. Esterno 2 sole sedie ed un'unica poltroncina ammaccata non si può avere di più dal balcone superiore possono piovere calcinacci. Spiaggia privata con sdrai non lettini sotto unico tendone. Non toilette né doccia. Accesso in rifacimento(giugno)possibile solo con sentiero e gradini. Visto il prezzo il gioco non vale la candela. In complesso deludente.

Lo chiamano villaggio turistico ma non lo è! Il bar e il market (se così si può chiamare) è chiuso dalle 13.30 alle 18! La piscina chiudano dalle 13 alle 15! Il ristorante apre dalle 18 alle 21 solo su prenotazione! Per andare al mare c’è una discesa con un dislivello di 150 mt e una pendenza dai 25% al 48%....20 min di tortura all’andata e 35 al ritorno! E devi per forza essere sana perché la devi fare a piedi! La macchina non si può portare al mare! Al mare non esistono punti ristoro! Le casine da 2 in cima al resort sono veramente minuscole! Meno male che c’è Io terrazzino da dove vedi il mare! Che dire di più....il silenzio non manca! Dovrebbero non chiamarlo villaggio, altrimenti i villaggi turistici con i classici servizi per i clienti si aspettano, prima o poi di offendono!!!!

位置不太方便，出入需要車或電招計程車。但風景怡人，背向山面、靠近海邊，亦十分清靜，身心可以放鬆。但要注意的是，如果淡季時候去，村內餐廳會不開放，需要乘車或步行一會至鄰近地方用餐。

המקום מדהים ביופיו. כאן זה מתחיל וגם נגמר. זה כלל לא מלון אלא אתר קמפינג. מתחיל בזה שהצוות ברובו כולל הבעלים אדיש לאורחים. החדר מלא בנמלים. יש לדאוג לניקיון לבד. על חדר לא נקי בעזיבה יש לשלם בנפרד. סבון, נייר טואלט וחומרי ניקוי לא מסופקים. המקום רחוק מלהיקרא בית מלון. אכזבה גדולה בעיקר כשהתשלום כלל לא זול.

Un jardin et une vue sur mer extraordinaire

Même si les installations dates un peu, tout est réuni pour un bon séjour.
La literie est bonne (et je suis chiant), la douche chaude, l'endroit merveilleux.
Je vous conseille le petit déjeuner et son jus frais et la petite plage privé, un luxe !
Seul bémol, pour la visite des 5 terres, il faudra aller à Levanto en voiture ou 40 minutes de marche qui peuvent être dures le soir en rentrant !

Découverte d'un lieu calme. Très calme avec une vue à couper le souffle. Parfait pour des vacances en famille. La plage très belle, mer un peu sauvage. Market complet de produits locaux frais avec un accueil et un service. Restaurant convenable et piétonnier direct sur bonassola ou Levanto. La vue de la terrasse est un émerveillement quotidien et le calme est fascinant. Petit bémol les bâtiments sont un peu vieux et l'équipement cuisine rudimentaire, 2 casseroles c'est un peu juste. Le confort de la literie est aussi très faible comme les prises de courants des années 70.

Resort is very nice located in area of Cinque terre. Walking to train station will take 25-30mins. In the resort you can find a grocery store with basic stuff... little bit pricey.
Hotel is definitely not pet friendly. you can have your dog just on the leash or in the hotel room. NO access to water or beach.
Rooms are basically furnished. after moving in with your stuff ants are appearing and you cannot get rid of them until end of your stay.
In one week no towels has been changed or maintaned room.
For 160Eur a night is not worth of the money. Plenty other hotels, resorts in surroundings for better price with some service.

Il était une fois un couple de Français qui voulaient visiter les 'Cinque terra', alors via internet ils sont trouvé une location chez 'Francesca'..
d'après les photos il y avait un décalage ( frigo rouillé et inréglable, la literie dont les sommiers étaient a ressort donc inconfortable , aucune isolation , bruyant avec les appartements voisins. Le prix élevé pour les prestations dommage car le lieu est magnifique et bien situé par rapport au Cinque Terre. Je ne conseillerais pas cette location a des amis.
