We were excited to stay here given it was a castle. It did not disappoint! The grounds were very nice and the place has been kept up. The room was quite spacious - we had a ‘superior double room’ but it could have been decorated nicer given the atmosphere. The bed seemed small in the room. The bathroom was quite large and nice.

A unique location it is a privilege to stay in what is a historic artifact. Easy access to Orvieto and around. The draw back is that the restaurant has still not reopened since Covid.

One Night stay seeing the amazing location in the historic setting. Hotel organised a taxi to a great restaurant in Orvieto, and spent some relaxing time at the beautiful pool location. The pool itself could do with an update.

Beautiful property! Small winding roads lead to this magnificent castle set on the outskirts of Orvieto. Approximately 9 min drive to town, this establishment features a pool, complimentary breakfast and a full service bar on site. Rooms are slightly dated, but that only adds to the 12th century charm. Tall people beware of the vaulted ceilings.

Stunning in all ways. The former monastery is magnificent, as is the view of Orvieto and it’s surrounding vistas. I wish our room had looked out over more than the parking side, but the greenery made it seem otherwise. The staff were friendly and the service excellent. The breakfast table was well laid out with an amazing variety of cakes and local pastries, crusty bread, as well as fruit, cheese and cold cuts. Scrambled eggs and bacon are served in warning bins. The restaurant is a fine dining establishment, with excellent food. Everything about the hotel was impressive; however I must mention that, occasionally, there was a sewage smell in our bathroom and the hot/cold water was unpredictable in its settings; often scalding. I think it may have had to do with the fixture, as there was always plenty of it. That shared, we’d nonetheless stay there again.

We stayed for one night and it was really nice. We chose this hotel because of the location near Orvieto, the free parking and the breakfast and it lived up to expectations! The building is so unique and really cool how they transformed the old building into a modern hotel. The room is really spacious, we even had a couch! When we arrived, our room was really nice and cool, it felt like there was AC. However, the longer we spent in the room, it felt more and more like the AC wasn't working. Not sure what was going on but we couldn't get it to blow anything except hot air...that made for a bit of an uncomfortable sleep, it got quite hot in the room.
Other than that, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The shower was nice, but because of where the shower head was placed, it made for a bit of a tight shower if you want to keep the water from going all over the bathroom floor.

It was the fairy tale wedding of my son from Canada. Friends and family said it was like something out of a movie, and the best wedding they had ever been to! La Vadia catered to our every wish . The chapel was lovely and the outdoor settings only enhanced the experience

The buildings and grounds are very beautiful and unique, but other features were disappointing. With one exception (the gentleman who handled service in the bar/outdoor patio in the afternoon), the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. Dinner in the dining room was poorly prepared, over-priced and service was slow because they were understaffed. Poor amenities in the room - a random few tea bags, no info re mini bar prices (the contents of which appeared to have been there for a decade) and only tiny shampoo bottles in bathroom - no conditioner or shower gel. Overall, poor management of a stunning location.

This was totally like a \"real\" Castle stay but in an Abbey. We had been to many of the Castles/Castle Hotels in other countries prior to getting to Italy. This one actually felt like you were staying in the Castle due to it's story and the age of the structure. They did a great job in restoration.
There was a large wedding going on and it was really nice. We ate in the bar area as we did not have dinner reservations. The breakfast is good.
The local town of Orvieto is beautiful, you need to spend at least half a day there. If I was planning a wedding in Italy, this venue would be top on my list! We will return again to stay someday. A great experience.

Our expectations were exceeded at this beautiful abbey: The staff is friendly and welcoming; The abbey rooms are charmingly decorated with antiques, and the ruins are breathtaking. This was the best night stay we have ever had. It was quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was top notch and Orvieto hilltop town nearby was charming. We wil return.

Tommasso gave us a warm welcome upon our arrival. He spoke beautiful English and was able to answer all of our questions. The hotel is a restored monastery. It is stately, and the grounds are beautiful. There is understandably no elevator (given its age), but the stairs were easily navigable. We arrived late and had a very good dinner. Be aware, if you’re hungry after a long day of traveling, the portions are smaller than the norm we encountered elsewhere in Italy. The room was clean and the shower good. The bed was very comfortable. One little glitch: our room was above the parking area in the front of the hotel and someone’s car alarm went off at around 3 AM! Not a big deal. It woke us up but we both went right back to sleep! Breakfast the next morning was standard buffet fare: good coffee, juices, fruit, yogurt, cereal, sweet rolls, etc. We drove to the parking lot at the foot of the escalators and took the escalators up into the town. It is possible to drive up, but we weren’t sure how easy it would be to find parking, and there is an extensive ZTL restricted driving Zone. Tommasso will tell you how to get there!

We stayed just one night at this very interesting and unique property. Wonderful staff, excellent restaurant and a unique property and setting made the visit memorable. The owners are doing a remarkable job in modernising the extremely old and historic property while keeping history alive. More work to be done for sure but a lovely and worthwhile stay, close to Orvieto and main roads, for a good price.

This place really is amazing. 11th century frescoes. Absolutely stunning. We stayed in a very spacious suite with views of Orvieto. Just a couple of issues. First, not much staff, but the staff that were there were great and very helpful. This may just be a seasonal thing, as we were there in late November. Second, and maybe related, we got there later than expected anticipating eating in, but the highly regarded restaurant was closed. We were told that the chef had the night off, which is a bit odd. We had the sense that this was probably a seasonal thing again. They managed to pull off a really good restaurant, with eggs. In any event, we (my wife, my 8 yo daughter and I) would really love to stay here again. Possibly even host an event there.

We have traveled extensively and this was one of our all time favorites. The rooms are rather simple but the facility is stunning. A 700 year old monestary which has been converted into an impressive boutique lodging and restaurant. The service and food were excellent. A short drive to the beautiful medieval city of Orvieto. Couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable two days in Umbria.

What an amazing hotel, all the staff were so helpful, good pool to cool off in and the food was exceptional, we had our breakfast and an evening meal. The waiters were extremely well versed in the menu and wines and the setting is 2nd to non. Would be perfect for any stay. The location is good but you do need a car if your going into Orvieto as it is quite a walk uphill, but getting a taxi is no problem. Couldn't fault it at all and would definitely return.

This was an amazing hotel. The staff was great the location awesome, the character of the hotel was stunning and it was in a perfect location. After dealing with the crowds in Rome this was a welcome retreat to a wonderful location. Orvieto the old town is right there but the peace and tranquility of the hotel is unmatched. The restaurant was fantastic and the rooms were very comfortable.

The abbey is restored for modern comfort, but maintains all of the character of the 12 century structure. It was simply amazing to be able to spend a night in such a historic monument. Just outside of the walls of Orvieto. Getting into the city was easy with convenient parking. Having a car to visit this hotel is the best way to travel here. If you are going by train, it could be done as well, but less convenient.

It's too bad the hotel is so poorly maintained as it is a lovely historical site, has a beautiful view and is close to the centre of Orvieto.

The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food was outstanding. Unfortunately our room was a big disappointment. It appeared to have been last redecorated in the 1980s, cheaply and in a style that was not particularly sympathetic to the grand old structure. Our room was uncomfortable and slightly depressing. We understand that some of the rooms have been updated more recently. This renovation program should be accelerated.
The setting of the property is serene, but the location was too far from the town of Orvieto for our needs. If we visit Orvieto again we will look for a hotel within the town walls.

The Badia is a beautiful restored monastery, about 20 min from the center of Orvieto. The breakfast was as good as it could get with very close attention to details. Our only problem, that could be significant was the room that we got, it was not confortable, with a very small bathroom, and only one tiny window for the whole room.... it felt very austere, it was located in the attic. My advice is to double check with the receptionist the options that they can offer, because it felt like a three star hotel. The overall experience is good because of the beauty of the building and commom areas.

The facilities at the hotel were also really good, the \"hidden\" swimming pool was great, and the restaurant was fantastic. Beautiful 12th century abbey structure with modern rooms. Staff superb as is breakfast buffet. Our room had a mild dank odor, but then this is a very old place. Enjoying the quiet of the courtyard in sun or shade, after the madness of Rome, was wonderful!
