After taking transportation ( bus or taxi) to the town on the hill, walking or buses were available easily. The hotel was lovely. Great view of the square. A market was set up one morning, neat but a little noisy.
I’d stay there again.

My only regret is that I didn't stay longer. I had planned to spend only one night because it was a last-minute trip. However, when I return to Orvieto, I will stay here again. As soon as I could, I called my wife to show her around. What a BEAUTIFUL space, the view! La Soffitta e La Torre felt like a second home, and I felt welcomed. Thank you!

Great location and the host is delightful. Prepare to have cash for the city tax. We experienced a fair amount of noise from the surrounding area and the sound and light entering our room each time another guest came or went. The bed is VERY firm

Room was a well-maintained in a medieval building dating from the 1300s. Ancient timber and brick ceilings. Thrilling for Canadians used to only modern buildings. Fun to sit by the window and watch the action in the ancient square below. Hostess was very friedly and helpful and fluent in French, as well as Italian.

It is called B&B but it does not offer breakfast.
Located in an old building 3d floor it is a lot to go up the stairs with your luggage.
The address on Expedia is different from the one the host has been waiting us. We had a little difficulty finding the location.

Absolutely loved stayig here! Beatrice was accommodating, kind, and extremely helpful! Our train out was a little later than our check out time and she allowed us to leave our luggage. The room was very nice and the hotel is at the center of the town. Would recommend to anyone lucky enough to get to stay!

The hotel was difficult to find. It is a close walk to the local sites. Breakfast was good with fresh baked goods. The room is difficult to get to if you can't climb narrow stairs with bags. The staff was friendly.

One word: WOW! Surely among the best places I have stayed recently. And in a gorgeous town, Orvieto. The hotel is in a 14th century building and my room featured a beautiful set of desk and dressers. We dealt with Maria Silvana, the mother of the owner Beatrice. The building is on a piazza with several restaurants and bars. Some frescos in the dining room date from the 14th century. Quite frankly, I would give it a 10/10.

This is a very cute property, and Laura is very sweet. We were able to get the room early, and that was great because we only had one night in Orvieto. It was clean and very comfortable. The only reason I would caution one about this property is that there is not an elevator. I knew this at booking because it states it on the listing. If you have limitations and a heavy bag, I’m not too sure about that. We were ok, and this point didn’t affect our stay. We really quite enjoyed this sweet property. I would stay there again.

Cutest town! Adorable B&B. The owner, her husband, and son were excellent hosts and very kind. Location was perfect in the middle of town. Steps from coffee, restaurants, shops and a beautiful church. The rooms were large, beds comfortable, bathrooms spacious and everything was clean and lots of attention to detail making you feel welcome and at home.

The steps to the apartment were tough for lazy Americans but the room was very nice and Beatrice was a lovely hostess. Parking was convenient until the Thursday market was held in the square. Beatrice woke us in time to save us being towed away for which we are very grateful.

Overall good experience. We were given room at the top thus lots of steps to climb. We were also told that breakfast service stopped from October, given the name b&b, and all the good comments about breakfast, we were a bit put off. Otherwise the location is very central and facilities are clean.

This B& B is located so conveniently located right on a square in Old Town where they have markets. Our time in Orvieto was very satisfactory thanks to this B& B.

I didn't like all the stairs, but I knew about it before I booked. Also it was hard to find some of the light switches in the hallways. However, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms and halls were well kept. The location was very good.

Great Value and perfect location in Orvieto

The location of this B&B is perfect. The room was spacious (located in a very old building, which was really cool). The breakfast isn't the greatest, but with a few changes (better Coffee), it could be really good. For the price, this is the best value in Orvieto. You walk out of the building and are right in one of the main squares with easy walks to everything. There is a farmers market twice a week in the square and there are good restaurants (go to the Osteria across from the building - it's great) 100 Ft away with a market next store for convenient late night snacks, waters, drinks, etc.

Great room for the price and location

The room was a little hard to find since there was no hotel sign and not obvious. It is in Piazza Del Popolo, next to a pizza shop. The location is great. There was a band Friday night, which isn't typical we were told and we woke up to an out-door market on Saturday. The host was super sweet and the room was charming and clean. The breakfast was basic, but for the price, it was enough and would stay there again. We are really glad we planned a day and a half in Orvieto since there was much more to see and do than we had realized.

Easy to find as just had to purchase tickets in train station for the funicular which includes shuttle ride to the Duomo. It was about a 5 minute ride then had to walk about 5 minutes. Owner is a lovely lady who was very hospitable, room was very clean, large with a beautiful view. Breakfast was excellent. Very close to everything in the beautiful town of Orvieto

Beatrice and her mother were very nice. We were greeted promptly on our arrival. The room was clean and cozy and the breakfast was simple, but quite adequate. The only problem we had was a headboard on the bed that squeaked when we moved. I intended to let them know about it prior to checking out, but forgot. They seem the type who would want to know of any problem.

This is a great little place. Really old and authentic. The owner is a lovely woman who is kind and helpful. She does not want to be paid with a credit card, so maybe pay ahead or make sure you have cash to pay her. If you do not like physical activity, beware there are many stairs.

Lovely B&B, gracious service

Fantastic B&B; outstanding & gracious service. Unlike in the US, most B&B owners don’t live on premises; so providing an ETA is for good reason. En route from Calabria it became clear that we would be late for 6pm ETA. Our driver called to amend the time; then, we were later still. But, when Beatrice greeted us, you would never have guessed that she had been the least inconvenienced. There were lots of stairs (as with many B&B’s in Italy), but they were not as steep or strenuous as most we’ve encountered. And, Beatrice was adamant that she carry the luggage. Despite our tardiness (830pm) Beatrice never acted rushed while showing us the room & premises, telling us about the town or making restaurant recommendations. Our room was immaculate, with every comfort (ceiling fan, heater, a/c, wi-fi). It was lovely with exposed beams, stone fireplace, sky light, table with kettle and wardrobe with extra blankets. The linens were spotless, and felt very luxurious. The beds very comfy. The breakfast room was bright & airy; breakfast was perfectly adequate, with a wide variety of choices. The location was ideal, walking distance from everything, including public transport. Upon departure, my mom (80) was feeling unwell and needing a cab to the train, rather than bus & funicular. Instead, Beatrice quickly offered to drive us, as gracious upon our leaving as upon our arriving. I plan to return to B&B La Soffitta for a longer stay.

Convenient place to visit Orvieto.

The owner was pleasant and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast of good quality, but not so diversified. Our room was on the third floor, and there was only a narrow spiral staircase (no lift) and if you have heavy bags (our case) this is a big inconvenience.

Beautiful room, comfortable stay

This was our favorite hotel/B&B in Italy, and we wished we could have stayed longer than 1 night! We had the quadruple room, and it was so clean and comfortable. It included a kitchenette and small table which we didn't use much due to our short stay, but this would have been a perfect room for a week long stay in Orvieto. The owner was lovely and very accommodating when we had to pay with a credit card due to issues with the local ATM. The location was central and perfect for exploring Orvieto. I would highly recommend this hotel.

A wonderful stay in Orvieto

My partner and I stayed in the apartment for 6 nights. Very spacious. Includes a kitchenette. Two days a week there's a market right outside the hotel door. Fruits, veggies, cheese -- great to have the fridge! Great central location to go in any direction in Orvieto. Maria was gracious and very friendly. Very helpful with suggestions on neighboring hilltowns. Will definitely be back!

We greatly enjoyed our stay in Orvieto at La Soffitta. The room was spacious, it looked directly over the square - albeit through a pretty teeny window. The bed was good, the shower was large enough (by Italian standards). Be prepared for the stairs - you will be carrying your luggage up 3 flights! Our only complaint - their website promised wifi but the service was impossibly slow and the staff, upon being notified, showed no concern. I needed the internet for work, and so was not pleased to find that the place I booked because they had wifi did not in fact have it. We ended up in the internet cafe around the block. It is a great location.

Centrally located in historic Orvietto. A bit difficult to find even with GPS. Parking scarce. Room was nice size, bed comfortable. Internet not available 8:00 PM to 9:00 AM which was problematic for us planning our tout through Tuscany. Hostess greated us and seemed very nice however we didn't see her again until we checked out, didn't know where to find her to ask some questions about Orvietto and about Internet connection. Towels could do with an upgrade - they resembled table linens. A bar of soap for the shower would have been appreciated. Located in a very interesting building in a vibrant neighbourhood with no shortage of restaurants and shops.

Maria Silvana could not have been more hospitable. We did have trouble finding the B&B with the GPS. We suggest you get actual GPS coordinates for the entrance which is in the Piazza del Popolo between a Pizzeria and Tobacco shop. Our room was on the 4th floor and there is no elevator. Be prepared to carry your bags. Also parking can be an issue but Maria got us secured parking at a friend's for 10 euros a day which was well worth it.

The B&BS could not have been more charming!!

One thing was there was no soap for the shower so bring your own.

The town is very interesting. The Cathedral was lovely and the tour of the caves was very interesting.

A must is a side trip to Civita, a medieval village about 20 kilometers away. You have to walk across a steep pedestrian bridge bur it is definitely worthwhile.

Another side trip is Las Cascatas delle Marmore which is a waterfall. It is part of a hydroelectric system where they discharge water between 4 & 5 daily.

This hotel was very charming! Maria was so friendly and accommodating; everything we asked her about seemed her pleasure to assist. The location was very close to the Duomo, a beautiful old cathedral with a lovely facade. There were lots of fun shops nearby, as well as fascinating underground tunnels from the Etrascan era. We felt completely safe walking around the town, without the need to take a Taxi. All in all, it was a great experience!

After a closet sized room in Rome, this place seemed huge. Lots of room to spread out. Bathroom bigger than our room in Rome. The biggest problem was that the bed was made up of two twin mattresses, and they spread out during the night, leaving a crater in the middle. But I liked this room and the landlady, and I would stay here again.

Good location and decent place

We enjoyed out stay even if our room (along with many others) was high up the winding stairs and through a passage! (No elevator). Our room was comfortable and quiet. The thermostat for our room in the far back was actually located outside the room and appears to have controlled another room as well. We were lucky that we were able to maintain a comfortable temperature - if two rooms had different ideas of comfort they'd each be going into the hall to control the temperature. I think most rooms receive WiFi in the room, but we needed to go down the hall. The breakfast is pretty basic. The woman who runs the place is very nice and will try to help but doesn't seem as knowledgeable about things as she should be (like when and where the shuttle for the funicular stops; best restaurants, etc.) Still, we enjoyed out stay, liked the location, and felt the room was comfortable and quiet.

I travel a lot throughout Italy, always staying at small B&B's. La Soffitta e La Torre was one of the best, a little difficult to find at first once inside the piazza, but well worth it. Southern US hospitality has nothing on the kind ladies who met us at the door. Most importantly, very, very clean. And hot showers! Will stay again, most definitely. thanks

Maria was very nice and speaks English and French in addition to Italian. Rooms very cozy think overhead wooden beams, exposed stonework and crystal chandeliers. Parking on the square is available and free overnight. Very convenient to shopping and restaurants, 6min walk to duomo. Highly recommend.

Quaint B&B in Orvieto

La Sofitta e La Torre is in the middle of Orvieto, overlooking a busy square - great during the day - lots to look at, but a bit noisy at night. The bells on the tower, which is close by, also chime all night long, however, with the windows closed, all outside noise was blocked out. The problem for us was, that in the middle of a heat wave it would have been preferable to have the windows open. An overhead fan was in the room, but no A/C.
This B&B is not really suited to tall people. There are lovely, quaint and rather low medieval beams throughout the building. In our room, one across the bathroom door, which meant that we had to \"duck\" our heads every time we wanted to use the bathroom. My husband is 180cm tall and hit his head a few times. We ended up hanging a towel from the beam so that we would be more aware.
It is also up on the third floor, no lift, and as Orvieto is very hilly, so after climbing towers and walking down hundreds of stairs in caves and wells, at the end of a long and tiring day, it is not for those who don't like or cannot climb stairs.

B & B La Soffita - Orvieto at it's best!

On the Piazza del Popolo, next to the Palazzo . A fantastic location. On the third floor without an elevator. A B & B with a Medieval touch. Rooms renovated to the highest and latest trends. Breakfast served in a dinning room. (Buffet style: croissants, coffee, hot milk, jam, yogourt, orange juice). Owner, Mrs Silvana and her daughter charming and very helpful. Would stay there again without doubt and will recommend to all of my friends.
Before booking, querry should be made to know if access for handicaped is possible.
