Two things let this stay down. The first was a leaking toilet and constant sound of running water as the flush mechanism had broken and kept me up most of the night. The second I had limited time for breakfast and when I arrived many of the food dishes were empty (bacon and scrambled eggs etc.) and the wait delayed my schedule.

Was a really nice stay. The front reception staff were very helpful, allowing a late-checkout and even helped provide french/english plug converters. The rooms are a nice size and organised in a very modern way. It's a long walk from the train station...perhaps 12 minutes or so...but well worth it. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Very nice stay!

The bed was very comfortable and ‘super king size’. The bedroom wall was well finished- not something I usually comment about , but if you have any interest in interiors, you’ll find a modern concrete finish with embossed designs. I love well finished concrete! So a classy hotel in a great part of town.

Warm and Welcoming Staff

The familiarity of a Mecure hotel (simple, modern European design) with the warm and helpful staff at Valenciennes made this a ideal place to stay the night. The rooms are clean, simple and all you need for a comfortable nights stay. Didn’t have drink at bar or dinner but breakfast was very good with delicious buffet options. Walking distance to some good bars/restaurants too!

Trip to watch Paris Roubaix

20 mins walk from the hotel in a central location with shops, restaurants and sites all nearby this hotel is in a great location.
The hotel is modern so everything is well maintained and fresh looking. Our room was on the fourth floor and had a small balcony with a view of the cathedral - very nice.
The room was a reasonable size and the bed was comfortable and clean. Nice big shower with just enough power. Towels are very thin and cheap feeling.
Staff were curt and either unfriendly or they would just ignore us.
This would be a great hotel for a business trip or city break, we were watching Paris Roubaix bike race and it fit our requirements perfectly. Not somewhere I would think of for a romantic break or family holiday though.

Great fo a short stay

We had a very nice stay at this hotel which is in a very central location just minutes on foot to plenty of bars and restaurants. Parking was easy on the local streets but it's only free at weekends. The staff here were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast selection more than adequate. Only negative was that the air conditioning was very difficult to control so the room was rather hot at night. We did open the patio door to let in some air but it wasn't ideal due to barking dogs etc.
The restaurant next door was lovely and does great food.

The hotel is located in a nice area,next to a small shopping centre and many restaurants. The rooms are clean, but lack some basic items in the rooms, like real glasses and coffee cups. All they provide are cheap plastic cups. The beds in the standard room are not so comfortable, the better rooms are the privileged rooms, but even in those you still don't get a real coffee mug. The staff are very friendly and speak very basic English, but they were very helpful all along. If you are driving, there is no parking, but you can park for free on the street from 6:30pm to 9am. Overall is a great value, you can get great deals through hotels.com which includes breakfast.

The hotel was not so easy to find because of the one streets, however it's a very nice modern hotel. The room was interesting as at first you're not sure where everything is but that's part of the fun. The hire is well located close to bars and restaurants.

Ideal central location yet quiet bedrooms.Rooms were modern and the bed was very comfortable.excellent shower but the towels were disappointingly thin.
Breakfast was a little overpriced and both the bacon and sausages were under cooked.
Staff were very helpful with advice on places to eat dinner.
Car parking in an underground public facility was close by,easy to access and charges were reasonable.
Overall We enjoyed our short stay.Thank you.

This is the third time I have stayed at the Mercure in Valenciennes. The staff are always friendly and polite, the rooms clean and tidy. A short walk from the hotel you will find bars and restaurants located in a very pleasant square. Free wifi in your room is another great plus. You will not find a better hotel for the cost.

Hotel seemed like it was very recently refurbished. Clean, modern and very fresh. Room was very spaciuous and bed very comfortable. Had an issue where the television did not work, but this was quickly and efficeintly resolved. Breakfast was the normal continental buffet style that you get in most hotels in Europe, the quality of the food was acceptable, but not exceptional. Parking in the surrounding on-street areas is free from 18:00-09:00, if you can get a space. Otherwise the hotel offers a chargable service to park in the adjacent shopping centre. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and I will definately stay on my return to Valenciennes.

Handy Location

We stayed for one night at the hotel whilst travelling back to the U.K. from Italy. The hotel is located in the city centre and is handy for walking to restaurants, banks etc. There is parking available at the shopping centre just across from the hotel from 6pm at a reasonable rate. The hotel was very clean, the rooms comfortable and well enough equipped, I would certainly stay there again.

L’hôtel est confortable, le petit déjeuner très bien, produits de bonnes qualités. Mais le ménage des chambres laisse à désirer. J’ai eu le malheur de me baisser pour ramasser quelques choses et j’ai vu le dessous des lits. Il y avait des restes de gâteaux et autres résidus en tout genre. Plutôt répugnant. C’est dommage. Heuresement que nous avions réservé qu une nuit, nous n’y serions pas resté plus sinon.

Heel erg gemiddeld. Enige echte plus is de ligging, vrij centraal in de stad. Personeel is vriendelijk maar de nachtwaker was gewoon afwezig (lag te slapen ofzo) waardoor ik moest lopen om mijn trein te halen. Kamer was gemiddeld qua comfort. Geen echte aanrader, maar ook niet per se slecht.

J’ai toujours passé de très bons séjours dans cet hôtel, et j’en garde généralement une excellente impression.
Cependant, cette fois-ci, je suis obligé de signaler un point très problématique : cela fait maintenant plus de trois semaines qu’il fait plus de 26°C dans les chambres, et l’établissement refuse de mettre en marche la climatisation.

La direction explique qu’elle n’active la clim qu’à partir du mois de mai, peu importe les conditions réelles ou les nombreuses plaintes des clients.
Résultat : il devient extrêmement difficile, voire impossible, de dormir correctement.

C’est vraiment regrettable pour un hôtel de cette catégorie.

Fint hotel og meget venligt personale. Store og flotte værelser. Morgenmaden var god.
Vi var heldige at få en gratis parkeringsplads lige udenfor døren, og ellers var der parkeringskælder lige rundt om hjørnet.
Baren var ubemandet om aftenen, det var lidt ærgerligt.

Salle de bain très mal entretenue, calcaire, moisissures et amas de cheveux savonneux dans la baignoire...
Linge (serviettes et draps)pas mal froissés, les serviettes de bain sont vraiment trop petites !!
Dommage de ne pas mettre à disposition des carafe d'eau à la fontaine...
On regrette également de ne pas avoir un lait pour le corps...
Pour une nuit de passage ça passe mais pas plus.
La gamme mercure a vraiment baissé en gamme !
Le seul + de cet hôtel est le petit dejeuner.

Un Dimanche soir à 22h il est très difficile de trouver à manger sur Valenciennes... Prévenir les clients en amont serait très agréables pour prendre leurs dispositions...

Hôtel très bien situé au centre de Valenciennes. Il est très bien tenu, rien à dire au niveau de la propreté et de la gentillesse du personnel.

Très bon hotel, très belle chambre.
Malheureusement, Il manquait la machine à café, un tube de gel douche était déjà utilisé, enfin un seul peignoir de disponible.
Petit déjeuner très moyenne qualité pour le prix de 16 euro. Il n'y avait plus de pain, ni d'oeufs brouillés et très peu de bacon. Il aura fallu environ 15 minutes pour que le buffet soit réalimenté.

Dans notre chambre, la porte des WC ne fermait pas (erreur de conception) et la chasse d'eau ne fonctionnait pas.

Ce n'est pas le cas de la réservation sur hotels.com : alors que j'avais reservé 2 chambres les documents transmis a l'hotel n'en mentionnaient qu'une seule. Heureusement que lhotel n'était pas complet, j'aurais dormi dans la voiture !!!
