Very dated with chipped paint in room, uncomfortable bed. No plugs near bed, no tissues in room.
The checkin area looked good- it deteriorated as soon as you went up to the 2nd floor!
Swimming pool closed after 4pm so no use to people working

I arrived Kate after a wedding party so I didn't have time to adequately review the property and it's amenities, however the room was large and warm, the bed was comfortable. It was a little outdated in terms of decor but overall the stay was pleasant.

The room and hotel was really good i would definitely go here again. The only negative is that i received an email 6 days prior to my stay stating the leisure facilities were unavailable. Thus, i did not pack any attire for the pool to then be told when i arrived that it was back open. This was frustrating and i hope they improve their communications. Apart from this, great place to stay.

Hotel looks good from the outside, Some rooms have be re decorated, I got 112 which was not, very dated and 1970.
Restaurant artisan is nice, I just got a rude waiter, so had a takeaway the second night, as didn’t want to go through the pain again.
Didn’t use the pool, as locals use it and gets busy.
Didn’t have breakfast as work early.
Good size car park, need more EV chargers as all taken on arrival, and still took in the morning.

Room wasn't in particular good condition. Marks on walls, dusty skirting, dirty, dusty toilet round the base, part of one of the bedside cabinet bases had come away. The mattress was way too firm, didn't have a good sleep. The staff were lovely & couldn't have been better. The area is lovely.

First rate hotel. We had a small dog which was catered for very well along with a room on the ground floor with a sliding door exit to the gardens, ideal. facilities offered very good, and the meals we had were excellent.great value fpr money. We will definately rebook when in the area next. Very pleasant staff, very accomodating.

Our first impresdion of the reception area was WOW. Beautiful venue with breathtaking grounds. Lovely sun terraces and fantastic restaurant with amazing food. Would recommend. We had an evening meal which was superb and Breakfast was great too. Spa area small but nice enough for a relaxing dip in the pool and steam room, sauna and very small gym but enough for me. My only disappointment was that our room was a club room and accessed via a path to an annexe which did not have the same WOW factor as the main building. The room was very big with large bathroom, large lounge with couch and separate dressing area which was a nice touch and although it had been decorated recently and clean i just had the feeling that it was a bit tired. The furniture was old and the bathroom was very tired and needs to be fully updated. Bed was very soft and bouncy but slept ok. Just loved the place and sad the room was not so first class as the rest of the hotel. Having said that it was acceptable for what we paid.

Hotel relatively newly refurbished. Little details would make a significant improvement. No towels available either in room or at the pool, unless you take the couple required in the room. Pillows o the bed very poor. Door to balcony in room, very poor, needs a good clean and painting. Seems like a lot of money spent on front of house and little more on the rooms , which a spacious and comfortable would improve the experience

The public areas are beautiful. Function room excellent, lovely food.
My room looked grubby stained carpet, damaged furniture, broken pull switch in the bathroom. Poorly layed out bathroom, no were to put the hand , had to leave it on the bath so you drip water on the floor after washing your hand, again no were to hang bath towels while in the shower, only on the wash basin or towel rail behind the bath opersit side of the bathroom, shower tray very slippy no hand rails.all light switches and plug sockets look grubby.

Very happy with the price. Free upgrade from club room to suite was appreciated. Lovely large fuffy towels. Very comfy bed and pillows. Staff were all welcoming. Small gym, pool, steam room and sauna on site.

Staff were friendly and helpful, albeit the check in time was 2pm was allowed to use the leisure facilities from midday which was great.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable - the shower water pressure was poor, handles missing from taps and sockets severely outdated, could also do with sockets next to the bed too.

All in all, would definitely stay again.

Hotel was good particularly the attached Artisan Bar, lounge and restaurant. Rooms were good too if a little tired.
Pool area was usable but otherwise very disappointing. Complete refresh of pool, sauna and steam room needed plus no hot tub. But overall OK and would stay again

Not my favourite spa hotel.

I booked here for one night to attend a function at Stonyhurst on our way back from the Lakes. I thought it would be nice to have use of a pool. Although average, the pool wasn't as nice as either of our previous hotels, particularly because firstly, no robes are provided, and secondly, the (ladies ) change rooms were messy, no doors, water everywhere and a sign saying no outdoor shoes. Not really enjoyable as our room was far from reception and having to go there for a towel first was annoying.
The screen in our large room was tiny so watching from bed was not really possible. Most importantly our bed was a hammock. Very soft and hard to get a good comfortable sleep.
We didn't eat dinner or breakfast, and after seeing the prices on the menu, I'm glad. The artisan food is probably delicious but it's pricey!
The room was large, shower over the bath was rather underpressure but hot, big dressing and tea area. The price for one night was £85, if there had been a hot tub I'd have said it was worth it but sadly not.

Our suite was amazing. Huge living area and then the double bedroom off of this was big as well. Bathroom was fab, bath, separate toilet and a walk in shower area, huge mirrors with great lighting to do make up. Lots of storage to put clothes away, 2 great areas to do hair and make up. Nice little outdoor table and chairs outside of the sliding doors where you can watch the chickens walk by. Great restaurant with amazing food. We had lunch and breakfast here and was not disappointed with either. Cheese and ham omelette for brekkie was best I’ve ever tasted. The rooms could do with updating a little but are still in really good condition and I don’t mind this at all as long as it’s clean and comfy, no nasty smells to rooms either. Overall a great hotel where I would defo go back to.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The pool, sauna, steam room and gym were an added bonus. For all that the cost was reasonable.
The only issue was the night we stayed the hotel had a 'soul night' on and the music was particularly loud and didn't finish until 2.00am.

Had to wait 5 mins to check in. 2 other staff didnt know how to do it.
Had to go back to reception to find out how to get to the leisure centre.
Got given a code for the leisure centre but didnt need it to get in.
Restaurant has a lovely upstairs balcony but it was closed to guests - only available for private functions.
Restaurant staff okay but twice we could have done with being offered a tray to transport drinks.
Wifi in room was very weak.
TV aerial socket was faulty - had to wiggle wire to get a signal
Bathroom .mixer tap was missing a lever to operate it.
Wardrobe doors didnt slide very easily.
Room very big, bed comfy.
Bathroom very big, 2 sinks.
A bit of attention to the above would have made a big difference.

I dont want to post this. Because i dont want the rates to go up. This place is a godsend. Balconies overlooking lawns. Huge rooms with seperate lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Clean. Great staff. Excellent location. Such a find i walked in and booked a 2nd night. Fabulous location. Privatley owned as i found out when checking out. It deserves support. I have added to my faves. Such a great area. Near lakes, rivers, cute villiages and close enough to do anything. Didnt try the restaurant or breakfast but this hotel seems focussed on good honest value. I travel with work all the time. This is my new favourite. It has space. It has access to outdoors. Its very good value. Please dont put your prices up!

The reception on arrival was very friendly and efficient. I was kindly given an upgrade of room, which is always a pleasure to receive. The only slight down side of the visit was a small sewerage odour in the bathroom, but nothing to make me want to change the room. The evening meal there was also very good, both with service, presentation and taste. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel was lovely and my room (suite) was very spacious, clean and well presented.
Staff were helpful and I managed to get a late meal
on arrival which was excellent.
Only disappontment was I booked this hotel because it had an indoor pool and I wanted to unwind after a long car journey. I arrived later than expected due to a 2 hr diversion and receptionist told me pool was closing in 15 mins, but I discovered the next morning that it was open for a further 45 mins, so I would have been able to use the pool after all.
However, I would use this hotel again, as it also had a lovely roof terrance ba and good restaurant.

Never book direct with hotel!

I tried to book on booking.com twice for 80 something pounds but the booking would not go through.
I then called the hotel direct to book and they tried to charge me £140 but again, the payment would not go through.
I then tried to book myself on hotels.com for £72 and it worked, using the same card, only 30 minutes later.
I am disappointed that the hotel tried to over charge me by around 100%.

Disgusted advertised as including breakfast andthen said we had to pay £12 per person per night.
Lady in reception not helpful... did not say steps as in outbuilding.. had buggy and lots of bags as travelling with baby.
Said £15 per night for cot so took own. Then was told included.. pleased but frustrated had to fit cot in car.
Room was spacious which helped with cot, baby feeding at night.
Had togot bacm reception to get towels for lesiure facilities.. was not explained when checking in
Luckily door was unlockednas again with baby and in rain would not have been good to be left in cold trying to work out way in. Should have been explained at reception when booking in. Overall eould not book woth expedia but would go back to fox fields.
First night was jept awake as room near to wedding recetion which started late in evening and music and fireworks passed midnight. Could see people in teception.. could do with voiles as they could see into our room.

Nice hotel, but very dated.

This hotel is very dated, was probably lovely in its day. The room was large, but the decor was stuck in the 90s. The leisure facilities were nice, but again needs some TLC. The bar and restaurant where excellent, and if the hotel had a revamp to bring it in keeping with the restaurant it would be amazing.

Not too bad

Nice rooms, no power supply next to the bed so a but bad for when you use your phone as an alarm.

Rooms where cold upon arrival, had to turn all the radiators on, towel radiator wasn't working.

Hotel was nice though other than the above

It has 2 off car park entrances. Not immediately obvious which one lead to the check in .
I had the bad luck to have a duff key card. Twice staff had to leave their posts to help - eventually it was replaced (reprogrammed?)

Staff very friendly and helpful. Massive room with very comfortable bed. Restaurant was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Beautiful location with great swimming pool. Definitely coming back next time I am in the area. Thank you for a fantastic stay
