Mere seconds away from the freeway, but as quiet as a private island. Gaylord hotel and resort is the #1 vacation/staycation destination. There is a convention center as well as a Hertz car rental station that connect the hotel to the parking lot, making this a terrific location for business gatherings or holiday parties. Upon arrival you will drive up into the valet/loading dock. As you walk into the hotel you will enter a breathtaking atrium with top tier modern architecture, high ceilings with chic chandeliers, ponds and fountains, tropical plants, and a bar. The atrium has 3 restaurants and a store/cafe. Going up the elevator to your rooms you will see cute and beautiful ocean artwork decorating the walls; each elevator boasting it's own one of a kind photograph. Walking through the halls to your room the walls are decorated with smooth white rock tiles and pleasant wallpaper. The view of Chula Vista is beautiful, but the view of the waterpark and bay will make your jaw drop in awe. You can catch gorgeous sunsets that will make you never want to leave right from the comfort of your room. The rooms are adequately sized and the bathrooms are servicable, but what makes it special is the high quality materials being used throughout. When you're ready to enjoy the water park (about $12 for a day pass or free for hotel guests), there are 4 pools (including a wave pool), 5 hot tubs, 2 water slides, a lazy river, countless cabanas, and 2 restaurants. Pool does close at 4 pm.

Property was excellent. Reception, pool and restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. The valet staff needs a bit more training. Their greeting was too casual and familiar. They did not open the passenger door upon arrival or departure which is generally expected when paying $65 for valet.

We were given the wrong room
Paid extra for Mountain View and they gave us a room with view to the lobby. When talked to one of the host they told us they couldn't do anything that we'd had to call and that the only thing they could do was waive the parking lot ticket. More than $500 for the wrong to get it wrong.

Restaurants onsite were okay, the PCH market came in clutch many times though. Only downside is no where is walking distance so had to always Lyft elsewhere.

I understand why some pools and some restaurants were closed. The weather was not good and not many people were there. But we still payed the full Resort Fee. Restaurants were all spendy. One meal we each had a bowl of soup, split a salad and I had a glass of wine. Bill was over $80. Food in all venues tasted great!

As San Diego locals we really enjoyed our end-of-year staycation at the Gaylord Pacific. Despite rain during our two day visit, we felt the staff did their best to accommodate us as much as possible. We rented a cabana near the pool for New Year’s Eve and Zakiya provided phenomenal service to our family of 6, which includes our four young sons. Every amenity remained open and available during our visit, and despite restricted hours we think it was a great stay. You can purchase a day pass for $12.50 if you want to literally “test the waters” before you book a stay here. Cabanas are $50 during the week and $100 on the weekend.

We visited Dec 30, 2025 through January 1, 2026 and we think an area of opportunity is for the Gaylord Pacific to have some type of New Year’s Eve celebration for the hotel guests. Perhaps a bottle of Martinelli’s with a few plastic glasses would be a nice gesture.

Although this is their first official year being opened we feel they seriously lacked in this area. There was absolutely nothing to recognize the new year. We suggest perhaps a toast or even a countdown. We went to the main lobby to watch NYE celebrations on the screen, but other than that there was nothing to recognize the new year. If there was one we were not made aware, so in time we expect there will be something.

As for other amenities, we did not use the workout room, but we did enjoy the 24 hr arcade late night with our boys.

Overall, we give our stay a 10:10.

Everything was great and I had a wonderful time. However I suggest an earlier check in time as Expedia site said 3pm when I booked it and when I arrived I was told 4pm but still was delayed past that time and I had to rush to get ready for my company party.

I’ve stayed at multiple Gaylord properties and this one is probably my least favorite. The food options were very limited. I found the sports bar To have very average food and the grab and go items We’re pretty lousy. The property is clean and new and the staff is wonderful. But overall, I find it pretty cold and septic compared to the other properties are so cozy and inviting. The gym was great. The bedding was very comfortable. Overall, it was fine, but for the money, I think better restaurants would be nice

Nice new hotel. Great pool. Great service at the pool. Possibly the best guacamole I have ever had. Will definitely stay again. Beautiful room. Room was clean at first glance but then noticed urine on the toilet seat, some kind of odd dried substance on the bathroom counter, soap tray was soiled from previous guest; tiled floor hadn’t been cleaned in a while, hair from previous guest. I say this because I think the design of those rooms hide dirt well, until they don’t. Housecleaning needs to be vigilante; quick passes won’t cut it. Noticed this in the common areas too. From afar looks fine, up close: dirty. Modern design is tricky… if you wanna do modern ya gotta clean thoroughly. Please take notice, I don’t want this hotel to go downhill and become like Vegas where people just don’t care and charge $500 a night anyway.

Beautiful hotel and the pools were perfect. The food was very expensive and terrible. We dined at 3 of the restaurants and did not enjoy any of them. Especially for the price. Our A/C in our room would not go below 75 and it too until 9pm for someone to come help. We had 3 kids we were trying to settle. Overall I don’t think it was worth the price.

I know the hotel is new, and some of the employees had just started working, but it was almost comical how many people who worked there did not know their way around! I recommend that you give me please a tour of their own facility. I was casually looking for the entrance to a restaurant and I asked a janitor, he said he was not sure at all. After looking around a little more, we were about 20 feet from the restaurant entrance! And then needed directions to one of the lawns for a party, I was a little lost in the hotel, and I asked the bartender, he did not know. He asked a colleague who also did not know who asked a colleague who also did not know when they gave me directions to a map. Other than that, the food was very pricey, and I felt a little captive for what to eat. Other than that, the place was clean and friendly.

The downside was that the pool opened late and closed early so I was unable to sit by the pool before or after work. The property was cashless and the food was very expensive. I guess they expect everyone to be on an unlimited expense account.

I stayed at the Gaylord because I heard it was a great hotel. I liked the idea of a water park on the grounds. The advertisement said 2.3 acres of park. It in fact was very small. They had 2 adult slides, a lazy River ( inner tubes were very uncomfortable), and a wave pool. I liked that there were vest in the wave pool. All in all we were done in 30 minutes because wasn’t much to do. There was nice pool area.
Our room overlooked a big dirt lot. The room itself was “ average”. Nothing that justified $500! It had a fridge and a nice TV. I did like the double sink. There was an iron & ironing board. No robes or slippers ( which I’d expect spending that much money)!!! A huge coffee stain on the floor so clearly it hadn’t been cleaned.

There were a few restaurants on the grounds. The sports bar was nice. Seemed to be where everyone was. We didn’t try the food but did go in to check it out.

The self parking was awful. If you have elderly or someone who can’t walk long distances you better drop them off in the front. Parking is far and it is a long walk to get back to the hotel. Carrying luggage going back to the was not fun. Vallet was $65 so we self parked.

The hotel sits on the marina. It’s walking distance and you can rent bikes. But Sorry I would never go back. So many SD hotels. I expected so much more for the price I paid to stay here. Other than the water park there’s nothing to do. I had on the few features they had but they need more slides “ my opinion” .

Should be top notch hotel but it isn't. Self parking feels like a mile away. Too much walking especially if you're carrying/dragging luggage. Too many little things were not right (broken. Not working, housekeeping didn't replace things) self parking is \"45/night, valet parking in $45. Just way too expensive and not top quality.

Big Disappointment

Sell day passes to locals and pool is overcrowded. Not enough servers, food is served in paper trays equivalent to fair food. Valet is $60 and takes over an hour to get car. Ate dinner at onsite restaurant and was told we had to wait for a heater (took 45 min) we were freezing. Ended up leaving hotel early and didn’t even stay the night. Big disappointment.
