Located on a hilltop site overlooking Funchal, the 120 hectare Palheiro Estate has grown from an early 19th century hunting lodge and summer retreat for nobility into a sophisticated resort destination. The advantages of renting a property at Palheiro Village allow our guests to enjoy privacy and flexibility within a property offering unsurpassed views.

Many of our guests find that renting a holiday home provides them with exceptional value and freedom. All of our fully furnished and very well equipped properties will surpass all your expectations.

Palheiro Village is located just 15 kms and 20 minutes by car from Madeira’s International Airport. A one-time cleaning fee applies and is payable locally upon check-in (fees subject to change).


When you stay at Palheiro Village in Funchal, you'll be next to a golf course, within a 10-minute drive of Funchal Marina and CR7 Museum. This family-friendly aparthotel is 0.8 mi (1.2 km) from Palheiro Golf Club and 1 mi (1.7 km) from Pinnacle Viewpoint.

My girlfriend and I stayed for over a week at Palheiro Village. Let me start by saying how impressed we were with the whole experience. The space feels very safe and clean, the staff and other guests are friendly and welcoming. The building we stayed in had adequate parking and a short walk to the pool.

During the visit we also played a round at the golf course. Which was a very respectable course, especially for more advanced golfers.

I would definitely recommend a stay at Palheiro Village to freinds and family

We had booked sea view and our view was blocked by trees so no real open sea view. Staff was good and responsive. Had washer in the unit but no dryer. There was a coffee machine but no coffee. Had to drive up to the clubhouse to get coffee daily morning.

Beautiful Villas. Be Careful of Extra Charges

A lovely hillside full of beautiful apartments/villas, with great views to the sea and Funchal. The central forum heated outdoor pool is free to use, but you will need to pay quite a bit extra for the gym (very tiny and not much equipment)/indoor pool which is based in the spa buildings at the top of the hill. See the hotel website for details. We had a car, so driving up and down the hill between the pool and villa was fine, but it would be a good walk up/down the hill if you didn't. I'd say staying here, a car makes things much much more convenient than if you don't have a car.

Had a great time in Palheiro village. The villa (3 bed) was very spacious and well furnished. Only slight downside was that some of the carpets had unsightly stains. We were very close to the swimming pool and games room, and made good use of these. A car is essential if staying in Palheiro village as is very hilly and a good distance from other locations. Maderia itself was wonderful, and the the relative close proximity of the villa to Funchal was good. Overall a great stay and highly recommended.

Lovely with some pros and some cons

The Palheiro Village is a group of apartments/villas connected to the golf court.

Pros
- Nice option to share an apartment with friends/family instead of separate hotel rooms
- Clean and tidy
- Very quiet - this is not a party place (a con for some)
- Amazing if you like golfing as you’re right on the golf court
- Breakfast/lunch/dinner options in affiliated Palheiro Hotel which is situated at the top of the hill in a lush and quiet garden
- Wonderful sea view from pretty much all apartments/villas I believe
- Free and easy parking right next to apartment
- Staff all very friendly and helpful
- Funchal town with its restaurant etc is only an 8 min drive away

Cons
- Colder climate than by the coast (a pro for some)
- You need a car to get to the pool, communal areas, reception and breakfast/lunch/dinner restaurant. It’s up a very steep hill and a pretty challenging walk even for a fit young person
- It’s labelled “luxury” but the decor and general interior is very dated.
- Sea view - but if you’re on the bottom of the village like we were there’s a big road right in front. Probably nicer to be higher up the hill.

All in all we had a nice time, but next time I would personally probably opt for the Palheiro Hotel up the hill if I was looking for something quiet - or one of the Funchal town hotels for something more happening. But great option for a family.

Beautiful views, clean apartment. Lacked basic toiletries such as box of tissue paper, one shampoo bottle and one hand soap only for the 2 washrooms. There was no washing detergent for the machine. The dryer did not work, even though we tried over and over again with different settings. The first day check in was very confusing. The security guard who didn't speak well English just handed us the key to the apartment. We had to call few numbers to get someone to come in and speak to us.

The apartment we stayed in was one of the nicest property we have stayed at. The value was amazing. The view from the balcony was breathtaking and we enjoyed many dinners with amazing sunsets over Funchal from there. The kitchen was well equipped and everything looked very updated. The AC came in handy one day that was a bit warmer. The man at the reception was super friendly and helpful.

Very nice apartment complex, very clean, well stocked kitchen, easy to cook your own food. Great shower, lots of towels, loved the patio. It would be very difficult without a car, the village isn't that close to anything, the supermarket is a very short drive away. Pools are nice, the one near the reception is really nice. We ate at the the golf club and the house, both are nice places to eat. The gardens near the house are equally nice to visit. We often went to Funchal with a taxi as parking didn't seem easy in the town and the taxi was only 17 Euros one way, then we could drink as much maderia and poncha as we wanted. If you do have a car parking at the village is very easy.

We had a great time it was very difficult to find you are best to arrive at the lower entrance, the bungalow was lovely but a nightmare with the infestation of ants it was difficult to get hold of anyone we tried all the numbers provided even security but no answer all in all it was a nice stay you will definitely need a car to stay here

Amazing Views

Very spacious property, everything you need for a really comfortable stay with possibly the best view of all properties at Palheiro Village. It is right next to the swimming pool which is great given that the roads and walkways area very steep all through the village. But still very quiet and private. Beds really comfy. Only negatives were the hot tub was working but cold and we could not find any cushions for the loungers in the garden. The sofas on the upper terrace were very comfy though. Didn't use the BBQ. Beautiful leafy pergola over the dining terrace. Perfect for evening relaxation with bottle of Maderia wine. Maybe very slightly dated property but great position within the estate. Great walks over the golf course and around the Palheiro Gardens. Didn't use the spa but looked nice. Good value.

We rented a 2 bedroom apartment with seaview and were delighted to find how spacious and comfortable it was. Plenty of space for a family of four with teenagers. 2 bathrooms, dishwasher and a washing machine! The view was absolutely stunning. The apartment was also serviced twice a week. The on site pool was fab too. Car is essential if you want to explore.

The property and Madeira itself are beautiful!

Everything was excellent except that the air conditioning was not working properly in 2 of the 3 bedrooms and not working at all in the 3rd bedroom. I called the front desk each day to ask for it to be fixed. Each day the cleaning crew came by to try to fix it, but to no avail. As such, our evenings were uncomfortably hot.

Superb apartment on quiet village

A lovely stay on a quiet village just outside of Funchal. The estate is on the side of quiet a steep hillside, but the apartment was superb with a nice sea view. It is about 4 - 5 miles outside of Funchal centre, so found the car hire was much needed, although there is a local bus every 30mins which stops right outside the village. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

High quality villa with great sea views and views over Funchal. Just 10 minutes drive from Funchal, 20 minutes to the airport. Lovely spa, pool and other facilities. You need a car though (but I think you need a car anyway if you want to see the island).

Our stay was perfect. The apartment was immaculate, the staff were polite and friendly. I could go on. Then there was the perfect view...

If I was to list a niggle, our apartment was near a road. I mean that is the very worst thing I could think of.

Basically, I can only repeat a perfect stay. Totally recommended.

Classy, comfortable, spacious apartment

Apartment situated high above Funchal so not really suitable for people who don't like hills or who struggle to walk. The reception and pool are in the middle of the resort with apartments near the bottom and villas at the top. The golf course and Club House restaurant are at the very top. It is very steep. Having said that I enjoyed the location and the stunning views of the sea and Funchal. We used the bus which stops outside the resort (bottom) to go into Funchal and back. We also hired a car to see the rest of Funchal and do the Levadas. The apartments are spacious and luxurious with huge balconies. They have everything you could need, being self catering. We walked to the local supermarket in Cancela but, again only for those who like walking or have a basic level of fitness otherwise use a taxi. We enjoyed our time here and I would recommend these apartments as they are away from the chaos of Funchal. We were there on New Year's Eve and I would strongly recommend staying here for the Firework extravaganza! Out of this world and not to be missed. 11 cruise liners turned up for it. I would visit Maderia again and stay here.

Beautifully presented spacious villa with amazing views over Funchal. Clean with comfortable beds.
You need a car to go anywhere. No bars or restaurants within walking distance. There is an outdoor pool with complementary towels but no staff present to re fill them. Also no bar/restaurant at the pool which was a downside.

Beautiful appartments with views

Palheiro village is set on a hillside just outside Funchal. It's incredibly tranquil and has some of the best views. Staff go above and beyond to be helpful in a non-invasive way. You definitely need a car here to get to the restaurants and shops but I wouldn't consider anywhere else if I returned to Madeira.

Absolutely stunning location close to everything.

We made a mistake because although the bus stop to Funchal was near the apt.
We needed a taxi to visit the facilities on the resort.A car is essential.we are too old to be walking up the steep hills.

Fantastic Easter break

I can't rate palheiro village highly enough. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a villa which was just stunning! The accommodation was spotless and had the most amazing views over Funchal. I would definitely recommend a car as there is little close by but it also allows you to explore. We used the pool every day and the views are spectacular. The staff were absolutely lovely. Overall a fantastic holiday and we will return.

Good self catering apartment

Very nice apartment, exceeded our expectations in terms of size. Although there are hotel facilities available, pool etc. we pretty much just used the apartment. Great view over Funchal and harbour!

spacious, well equipped villa overlooking Funchal

Villa was immaculate within a huge gated golf resort. V well maintained in all area's, staff were excellent and it was a lovely quiet, picturesque location with amazing views over Funchal. It was very high up the mountain and on the furthest outskirts of the resort, you definitely need a car! we booked one very easily via reception as soon as the airport transfer dropped us off at the resort as it was really obvious we would need one, even for a trip to the supermarket. There is a bus stop outside the resort but having a car gave us more freedom as there really is nothing to walk to nearby and the hills are not small enough to be tackled on foot! We ate at the golf club house on our first day as we wanted to look at the beautiful surroundings. It was one of the pricier lunches we had whilst in Funchal but you do expect that at a golf resort.

Pelheiro village is a a fantastic location on the outskirts of Funchel
The accommodation was clean and well appointed
We had a fantastic sea view with a kedge balcony
A heater swimming pool is located in the centre the village forum
Staff we helpful
The property is located on a steep hill above a well used road, so we did suffer with some road noise at times, but this did not spoil over nights sleep.
The property is located approx 2 miles from the centre of Funchel, so transport is advisable. We had a hire car although there appeared to be a regular bus service
We would have no problems with returning and hope to do so soon

Commanding Views Over Funchal

This was only a short break to Madeira but we could not have found better accommodation. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The accommodation was spacious, spotlessly clean and finished to a very high standard. The apartment had a terrace with sunloungers and table & chairs. Both bedrooms had balconies and all outside areas had spectacular views out to sea and down to Funchal. Both bath and shower rooms had under floor heating, the kitchen was fully equipped and the lounge was spacious and well laid out.
We could not find fault with anything. Fist class!

lovely , steep hills , don't plan to walk

we loved madeira and the village. the steep roads between our apartment and the golf club hotel and spa made it impossible to walk. we needed car. there is a shuttle twice a day but was never convenient for us. next time we will get in better shape before we go. we will be back.
close to funchal and bus routes etc.

Top-notch apartment, very quiet

I have never stayed anywhere so grand! Vast living space and bedrooms, well-equipped kitchen. Very nice pool, if slightly cold (but it was February and we still used it). Spotlessly clean, even the little lattice doors on cupboards etc. were dust-free. Only snag was it was so far out of town, so we needed a car just to go out for dinner.
We did have a couple of rain days, so I wished I'd researched rainy things to do with the kids. Having said that, the apartment was so big, we just played games indoors and didn't feel too cramped.

Great place with excellent views

The villa was very spacious with stunning views of the sea from all rooms. We stayed for a week and loved the place. It is located ideally between the airport and Funchal with easy access to city and all amenities. Would definitely recommend this to people who look for a comfortable and serene place to stay for a few days in Madeira.

Having read the excellent reviews, I was very much looking forward to staying here on my five-night holiday to Madeira. Apartments have beautiful views and built to a very high standard. However, on first night the hot water in the apartment was broken and the air conditioning was also faulty meaning cold water dripped all over the bedroom floor. This meant no shower and spent much of the next day on phone to apartment reception and Expedia, who (finally) agreed to change the apartment, even though I wanted to be relocated at this point. Second night in new apartment was infested with cockroaches which were climbing up the walls in the living rooms and bathroom. According to the very cleaners these come up through the floor vents, as we kept all the doors/ windows closed. Another day was spent speaking with Expedia and the reception to persuade them to relocate us. Finally, they agreed a refund on the remaining three nights. There was no refund for the terrible first two nights and I was told by Expedia my 'compensation' was my refund for the remaining three nights of the trip. The reception at the apartment inferred that I was expecting too much of the apartments and that these are apartments not a hotel room. First time I have ever had a bad experience with a room and was surprised how little assistance there was from Expedia or apartment management.

High quality accommodation

Palheiro village is set up away from Funchal in the hills. The duplex we stayed in was extremely spacious and well-appointed with full kitchen and washing facilities. The staff were extremely helpful. The pool was the perfect temperature and had an 'honesty' bar. There was also a communal room with a pool table, tv, and computer. There was a bus stop nearby, and the taxi to town was €12. A wonderful place.

Nice apartments but built on very steep hill.

Last minute change of hotel as our original hotel no longer available. Apartments were beautiful with great views. Only used pool facilities on our last day since the steep climb from the apartment was too challenging for my mother. Am very glad did not book any spa treatments since getting there was totally impossible for her. If only there had been a regular shuttle service, it would have been most useful. For that reason I cannot recommend this resort to others.

Much much more than we expected, we will return.

First time visit to Maidera, will be back. Really appreciated the facilities on offer at the Village, heated swimming pool and relaxed family friendly atmosphere. You could be alone without being isolated.We loved the views which are stunning. A vehicle is a must though as the gradient is very steep and unless you are a regular exerciser, you may have problems if you are located in the higher end of the village. It was not a problem for us though. It is also important to note that use of the Golf, Spa, and Gym facilities cost extra although there is a deduction for village residents.

Spacious high quality acccomodation

Came as an Expedia deal with Easyjet flights and very good value. Palheiro is perched on a hillside (like much of Madeira!) and is very spacious and fitted to a very high standard - could happily live in the accomodation. Pool area lovely, TV in a lounge if the one in your house is being watched by someone else, pool table and an excellent restaurant at the Golf Club. Staff very helpful and friendly as well.

Car essential (even to go to the Golf Club really) as shops and attractions not within walking distance and the beach is 1500ft below (and the mountain 4500ft above!!), though there is a bus in and out of Funchal. Views are superb, but early and late season could mean some cooling of morning and nights due to the height restricting use of the excellent balconies for eating.

Excellent place to stay in Madeira and one of the best self catering apartments we have stayed in globally.

Lovely, peaceful resort. Easy access from the airp

I stayed for a week with my two daughters. We hadn't been to Madeira before, and decided not to hire a car. We had a lovely week getting to know the area, and had no difficulty getting round by bus and taxi.
Everyone was so courteous, friendly and helpful.
We will definitely return, but next time we'll hire a car to explore more of the island.

Lovely complex - very high spec apartment

The village is very nice - very high specification. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a 3 bedroom apartment right in the centre of the complex near the pool. It was lovely. Its very quiet so if you are looking for a lively holiday this is not the place for you. You ideally need a car as you are a 15 minute drive from Funchal and a 5 minute drive to the nearest supermarket. There is a nice walk upto the gold clubhouse and hotel where you can have a drink in the lovely gardens at the Tea House. Its all uphill though! The views are the stunning from virtually anywhere in the village.

Continuous intrusive road traffic noise made it very unpleasant to sit out on the balcony and disturbed sleep even though the place was double glazed.

Perfect apartment

Beautiful apartment just outside Funchal. We hired a car which gave us the freedom to explore this stunning island. Apartment was cleaned twice a week and any problems are dealt with immediately. Very friendly professional service. Thoroughly recommended.

First time in a lovely village complex.

After 6pm, key is collected from security office at gate. Apartment had 2 bedrooms, 2 WC/shower rooms, one with bath tub, large well equipped kitchen and dining area, lounge with TV and DVD player, covered terrace with partial view over Funchal and sea, lower deck garden and patio area. During the first night 6 cockroaches entered the property but after further cleaning and spraying the next morning, no more were seen. Day two, checked in a reception, and quickly viewed the golf course area higher up. Only the double bedroom had unobstructed view of the city, which disappointed at first, but we were only there for breakfast and dinners outside on the terrasse.
Lovely quiet place to spend a week. Check out was quick and without fuss.

Get fit before visit (hilly)

Superb views , lovely apartment ,well equipped , friendly staff, great stay would visit again only disappointment was that the village residents can't make use of the courtesy bus even to use the hotel and golf club facilities. Overall a beautiful place to stay . Bus stop right outside gate with frequent buses to Funchal.

Very nice stay in Madeira

We stayed for one week in a 2 bed appartment. The property was very good (5 star) with great views over Funchal and the atlantic. The whole Palheiro estate is very nice and very well kept , the staff very friendly and the location is very good (10 min drive from Funchal). Our children enjoyed the community pool, table tennis and pool table. We enjoyed our stay and would go again.

Cons:
Estate is very hilly for walking & restaurant can be far from some apartments. Car advisable.
Locality is too far from Funchal to walk (but decent bus and taxi service nearby)

Overall:
Highly recommended. Car advisable but not essential. My 4 year old made it from the bottom to the top (albeit complaining a lot), so is definitely doable!

Great village resort on the edge of Funchal

Booked a 2 bed apartment for my family of 4, which was perfect. Well equipped kitchen, with towels for pool and apartment. Central pool, with bar area, table tennis, a lounge area with pool table and darts. Very helpful reception area with dvd available. At the top of the village is the golf course, hotel and spa.
Managed to see most of the island in our visit, which is absolutely beautiful, and the people are so friendly.

Excellent PLUS in terms of quality

One of the best in terms of Location, Quality of Accommodation, Convenience, facilities, Cleanliness, promptness, exclusivity, accessibility and giving that overall Holiday feel or luxury. THE best place for adults, although children would have been bored without their Fabulous Out-door heated pool. Nothing much for the kids to do in the resort- but lots to do in Madeira as such.
Would I go there again: It would be a blessing/ Privilege absolute marvel to go there. Amazing place.
Would I recommend it- YES YES YES
