We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The staff were extremely polite and professional, making us feel very welcome from start to finish. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the heating was amazing — we felt warm and cosy throughout our stay. We also dined at the restaurants and the food was really tasty, with excellent service. Overall, a great experience and we would definitely recommend this stay to others.

Really Gone Downhill

Used to be one of my favourite hotels but every time I come back it gets worse. Needs some serious investment to get back up to where it was.
On this occasion, the lift was broken, i was given a tiny box room which was cold and dated. Limited amenities, towels like sandpaper and the hot tap emitted boiling water.
The only positives were the receptionist on check in who was lovely and an excellent pizza from the on site Italian.

The resort closes earlier than advertised so we did not get the time to go use the pool facilities
The Italian restaurant was closed and Aspects was poor service. Maybe because they were the only restaurant available!

The hotel needs a good upgrade. The corridors were badly marked paint work looked tired . Staff were not the happiest they weren't rude but it looked like they were attending a funeral. Value for money l wouldn't return anytime soon. The breakfast was one of the worst selections of cooked food l have had in a long time the sausages were overcooked the bacon wasn't any better. And the porridge was watery. Very disappointed as you look forward to a good breakfast. We certainly wont be rushing back anytime soon .

Staff were very friendly and were clearly working very hard to provide the best possible service. They even took our bikes in for us for safe storage even though we had a late check in. They seem to go that extra mile. The reason for the 3 stars was because our room had dust/cobwebs in areas where it hasn't been touched, also the hot tap in the bathroom was scalding hot!

The room was not cleaned properly. 5 of the 6 glasses had lipstick / lip marks on them, there was a disposable floss item in the floor, one of the towels had a mark / stain (like fecal matter) and there were items in the drawer left from a previous guest.

The reception staff were very apologetic and quick to act on this.

The room was extremely noisy with little to no sound proofing between rooms and the built in tv speakers in the neighbouring bathroom blasting into our own.

Julie and I had a great stay at the hotel. Unfortunately we had to take Alfie, Julie’s scruffy wee dog at the last minute. I spoke to someone at the hotel and they kindly moved us to their sister hotel next door that allows wee hairy animals. We certainly would return again. I might even consider inviting Alfie as he enjoyed his stay too 😊.

We arrived at 15.20 and was told check-in was not until 4pm , yet on hotels.com it said from 3pm , we went a walk and came back just after 4pm and had to wait another 15mins, we were then given the key to our room, it was a king size bed we had booked and getting to the room it was 2 singles , they said they would rectify this as it could be kinged , which we found out just ment putting a mattress topper on top of the 2 singles , had a terry nights sleep , definitely not what we were expecting and would not recommend this hotel in fact I would say go elsewhere and don’t waste your money

Booked Morlich but was not told that restaurant would not be open. Also breakfast we had to go to another hotel. The bar was open but limited to what was available. We were also offered an upgrade by email to be told not available and email shouldn’t of been sent. Swimming pool once again in other hotel which not idea when no robes in room. Quite disappointed at the fact none of these things were advised before we booked or arrived. I even called to check reservations as were bring some Italians first visit to Scotland and still was not advised on online chat or on the phone.

The Morlich was the perfect location for me as I was attending a conference in the adjacent venue. Very comfortable room, with plenty of space. Lovely shower. Robes and slippers provided. My only slight criticism is that the lift was very dated and I felt a little concerned about using it. Also, breakfast wasn't served on the premises. I had to go to the food court in the conference centre. Personally I found this inconvenient for me because I have mobility issues which meant that I had to drive around to the building then back to the hotel afterwards. But I would be better prepared next time.
Overall, it was a lovely place to stay, and a good base for exploring Aviemore. The staff were very welcoming and helpful too.

Relaxing experience at Macdonald Morlich Hotel

Overall a very comfortable experience. This is the second time we stayed in Macdonald's hotel, opted for half board and loved our meals everynight. Breakfast was great, would be nice to have meatfree options for vegetarians, even if not in buffet but can offer to prepare it if requested, still loved scones and beans and pancakes, kind and caring staff.

Awful experience, booked 2 rooms for two couples on same booking and they put us in two different hotels on site. No explanation, blamed reservations, guy behind desk sat on chair didn't stand up to talk to us, all very young staff with little experience. Eventually operations Manger gave us £30 off bottle of wine for inconvenience. Had to convince them to let us dine together at breakfast in the morning in oen hotel.

The hotel was tired and very expensive so you are paying for location. The room, especially the bathroom was badly finished and the shower average ..it did its job. The bedroom was small, bed ok and the view was of mountains and resort. It, however, was noisy and over-looked the bins so not much sleep was had. The Italian restaurant on site was good and catered for all tastes. Service was prompt considering the amount of customers. Breakfast was ok.

Cons - someone in room nearby smoking in their room and the smell travelling into our bathroom. Bed and pillows not very comfortable. Wakened at 6am every morning with loud doors creaking and banging closed. Unsure if this was the cleaning staff.

Full marks to McDonald hotels.

We happened to be staying on one of their Santa Claus weekends and the atmosphere was lovely with lots of excited kids. The staff were great dressed in xmas jerseys and a lot of elves about. The hotel was very warm and welcoming the staff excellent, and a very comfortable room.

This large complex is an easy walk to the Main Street in Aviemore. Train and bus station, shopping and walking. The restaurants are great. We didn’t bring bathing suits so can’t comment about the indoor water park.

4 HotelS are situated in a campus style parkland, therefore restaurants and facilities are spread between the four, and not all located in the hotel into which you book, contrary to the impression on the website. Not a disadvantage, unless it is raining. Disappointed with dinner in sister hotel - service very good, food average, cost expensive.
Large shopping area, which closes at 5 pm., just before most visitors are returning from their day out. Should it not stay open until, say, 7 pm?

The room was fine, very clean but needs a little tlc, broken toilet seat and peeling bathroom door.
The public areas of the hotel were a disgrace! Filthy toilets with 1/7 lights working, tables not cleared in the bar area for 2+ hours, staff stressed and shouting at each other.
Our dinner on the first night was not good, bland and fatty, when we said this it was shrugged off!
The restaurant was very busy and chaotic.

If you don't have enough staff to cope with your guests don't book so many guests!

The room was smaller than expected but too much furniture in the room didn’t help.
The restaurant was closed so we had to go in the food hall. It was packed with companies, large groups, noisy. You couldn’t hear each other it was so loud. Not relaxing!

While the hotel seemed a little dated in places, you could tell that upgrades were being made. The room was clean with a huge bed and a new-looking bathroom with walk-in shower. We had a dinner bed and breakfast package and the dinner was a little disappointing due to a long delay between starter and main course. However, the food seemed of good quality when it arrived. Breakfast was great however, with a wide range of buffet options from porridge, cereal, and yoghurt to \"Scottish breakfast\" to cold meats and cheeses, with croissants and cakes also available. A highlight of our stay was getting to use the swimming pool which had plenty of space for lane swimming.

We have stayed at the McDonald resort x3 previous times and have always thoroughly enjoyed our previous stays and this latest stay was as enjoyable. We were due to stay at the Morlich but ended up in the Highland Hotel. Great hotel, great facilities and friendly welcoming staff. The location is perfect for exploring Aviemore and the surrounding areas and is ideal as a base for being able to visit the rest of Scotland - the beautiful West Coast is a must with stunning highland scenery. We highly recommend staying at the resort. We have previously stayed at the Highland Hotel and the Aviemore Hotel on the resort and would presume that the Morlich would be exactly the same.

Disappointed that we were moved hotel at the last minute due to essential maintenance which surely could have been advertised when we booked and then all Spa facilities were closed (steam room and hot tub - the hot tub was seemingly not working for a long time prior to us booking but this is still advertised as a service to be used. Portal system for booking spa treatments was not user friendly and no treatments were available online and spa seemed to be shut. Window in bedroom would not shut and therefore the wind was whistling through it all night!

Had such a great time! Bar staff there are fantastic. A shame they don’t have local breweries on tap there. The restaurants don't seem to have a middle ground between quick service and slow service though but that is me probably being picky.

Rooms were very clean and no problems at all. The issues were around service in the restaurants and concerns around how serious Covid was being taken. At times in the Morlich Giovannis there were too few staff especially at breakfast and although breakfast was served to you when no staff were available some guests were helping themselves to breakfast food and touching spoons and surfaces which wasn't good. We had issues with a couple of members of staff whose mask only covered there mouth and not nose and another who regularly could be seen taking their mask off, touching their mouth and nose then putting mask back on before continuing service. They could at least have used hand sanitizer. Cups and cutlery were not clean on a couple of occasions and although we saw tables being wiped down chairs were not and often had crumbs on them. We didn't think with Covid standards were as high as they should have been.

Had to leave town to get an evening meal

Nice hotel, staff were pleasant enough but we were really disappointed to be informed that there was no availability whatsoever, in any of the four restaurants, for the entire duration of our stay. We were told we would need to make our own dinner arrangements in the local area or further afield. Staff were apologetic, but to recommend a 10 mile drive to a neighbouring town in order to have dinner was very disappointing. Sadly finding a restaurant with availability became the focus of our first day rather than enjoying our break, only to then be further disappointed at seeing many empty tables in hotel restaurants later that evening. I would suggest that guests are notified in advance if availability is tight in order to avoid disappointment & inconvenience on arrival.

Otherwise, hotel was quiet, clean & in good condition. Good WiFi. Good shower and a very large & comfy bed.

Wonderful location shame about the tired rooms

So this resort review is confusing me. The common areas are beautiful, the food in the restaurant is amazing and the surroundings really nice.

However, the rooms are really tired looking and in desperate need of a lick of paint. In our room on the first floor we had a really comfy bed and that is where the positive things end. The bathroom had loads of flaking paint, the silicone around the shower was all peeling off and the protective rubber end of the door stop was missing so was really sharp. For a 3 night stay for 2 people we only had 1 shower gel miniature and to top it off the room was hotter than the sun and had no AC or fan. We turned off the heated towel rail which was on when we came in (in July!!) Opened the window and closed the curtains when the sun was in room but still it was unbelievably hot during the night.

All this hotel needs are some small tweaks and it will be top class. The food in the restaurant and the service the staff gave is what you expect for a MacDonald hotel but the rooms were really disappointing.

Overnight stay at MacDonald Highland Aviemore

We stayed for one night at the Aviemore MacDonald Highland hotel on 5th June. Whilst the reception staff were welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable the restaurants require considerable improvement. The Stakehouse is situated so far away from the hotel that we were required to pay for our own taxi there and back. No notice of this in advance. The restaurant was very much understaffed with 2 staff serving at the bar and waiting on all tables. We waited 30 minutes before receiving a drink and when our wine arrived it was warm. This was in no way the fault of the staff serving who did their best in a difficult situation. Management need to address this immediately. Breakfast was also average and we had to wait on various parts of the cooked breakfast being made. Overall we were disappointed in our stay as we expected a higher standard from this chain of hotels. Hope the restaurants are improved as we would have liked to revisit with family in the future.

Badly organised Hotel. Took half an hour to answer the phone; prior to our visit. We then arrived at hotel, lugged our cases into reception. Met a couple at reception that had been waiting for 15 minutes at an empty desk. A fellow visitor fortunately came by and advised that we should drive to Morlich hotel for ‘check in’, which we did. Why were there no signs, information and directions. Hotel is understaffed, but the ones on duty worked hard and were polite. Most conversations started with an apology, as they realised they were not efficient.

We were upgraded to the Highlands hotel f/o/c and given a meal allowance of £25.00 per person per night. The staff were really friendly and very attentive. The room was a little bit dated and the paint on the bathroom ceiling was peeling away. The food was good except for an inability to cook chips properly. This was reported to the restaurant staff but after the 2nd attempt I decided not to eat the chips. Other than that the stay was good.

. For a 4 star Hotel quite poor. Good amenities for family’s . Hotel is real tired looking and needs updating. Breakfast quite poor for a man . Scrambled eggs were lovely but small portion. Ordered soft boiled eggs which were hard!!

Initially thought room was good size until we saw other family's cheaper room at other hotel (almost double our size & with small fridge), albeit we had breakfast included. Not impressed by pre-cooked breakfast - dried-up & cool inc toast. Also not very big pot of tea for 2 - no hot water pot. Understandably during current coronavirus situation discouraged from sitting too long with staggered times, though limited choice of times left but not told to advance book.
Room decor nice but lack of sockets -1 bedside point & double socket near writing desk (too large for room). Had to plug kettle into bedside socket (nearest to tea table). Also only one of double sockets working which meant to report on check-out but forgot due to fact breakfast was 10.30 and although our luggage in car we thought we would go back to room to brush teeth etc before our homeward journey to Glasgow. Unaware key cards automatically clear at 11am preventing entry to room after this time. Therefore had to get card unlocked/reset to collect bits & pieces.
Overall impression - hotel decor & facilities on resort complex good, not used any but there if wanted.
Hygiene standards good, hand sanitisers in public areas. Room was clean ex a glass had small hard bit at rim so washed off & long dark hair strand on shower floor so not thoroughly cleaned. Would not stay there again - overpriced and over-rated in my opinion.

Clean and comfortable room, but having booked a de luxe room, I was expecting something a bit larger.

Aviemore Morlich Hotel.

Waited quite a long time to be checked in but when we were, the staff were quick and polite. We used the Aspects restaurant for our evening meal which was included in the room rate. The starter came quickly however we then waited an hour for our main course. Staff were again very nice and the food was of good quality. The rooms within the hotel are a bit tired, dated and small however they had most things we needed. The bed linen could have done with replacing a good couple of washes ago. Overall, not a bad stay but pleasant enough with no excitement or nice surprises.

I was quite anxious about cleanliness due to COVID-19 however the hotel room and bathroom were lovely and clean. There was hand sanitizers at check in / each restaurant. I think it would be a better experience if the cinema and pool etc were open however as a couple we had a great staycation.

It was good, clean. The only thing I’d say is we booked a room and the booking states “1 kingsize bed” but there were two small beds pushed together with separate duvets, which wasn’t expected given booking and was disappointing.

Hogmanay Break

Stayed for the New Year break. Very quiet apart from some noisy guests who were very late back and had little respect for other guests. Exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Shower lacked pressure but had worse. Very good buffet breakfast. Have stayed here before and will be back again.

The food was diabolical..we paid £70 a head for Christmas lunch which was cold. Messy food as we were eating on last sitting and no staff on carvery..not much left on dessert table or cheese table. When we went went up for dessert. The management offered us a free meal the following evening..which was just as bad. we waited almost two hours for a pizza. Pasta tasted like power.... Never again!
