Stayed at the resort while travelling for work this was quite an expensive hotel for me but alway wanted to stay in Aviemore, the staff were great on check-in but in general I wouldn’t stay again the hotel is in need general repair with gutter and soffit hanging off as the first thing I noticed pulling up. The rooms are seriously dated and in need of a major update !
When I got to my room I found confetti around the floor which leads me to think it hadn’t been cleaned very well.

Everything was fine until I saw the dogs. You placed us in the same corridor as the dogs, and I am now suffering with various ailments. If the dogs had been hypoallergenic, I would have had no problem, but they were not. I am now suffering from sore eyes.

I cannot believe it — huskies, Labradors, and Ridgebacks, to mention a few. Some guests even had two dogs. This showed a complete lack of respect to both myself and my wife. The room I was given was probably a dog-friendly room, which is unacceptable.

Having guests with dogs and guests with allergies placed in the same corridor is completely out of order. Disgusting.

First off the positives- pool, soft play & facilities in general at this resort are very good the main reason we stay here. Location is also great as sit right behind town centre. Any staff members we encountered were very friendly, helpful & polite. Area that needs some improvement is the actual bedrooms as none of my family slept well or very much at all due to the beds being very uncomfortable & firm which is disappointing as the main bed is huge & I was very much looking forward to sleeping in it. There is a distinct lack of plug socks in the room so had to unplug kettle & lamp to access the only 2 sockets in the room. in particular we found it strange that there was no sockets next to the bed. The room was overall very clean but think it’s maybe being rushed at we found both clean socks in the drawer of the dresser & dirty socks under the fold out bed. I only spotted the dirty socks as I picked them up thinking they were my daughters & she informed me they weren’t hers. We also requested fresh milk & after waiting 1 hour it still hadn’t arrived & we needed to phone again to ask about the delay. Which is a shame as we thought offering fresh milk was a very nice addition.

Very disapointing. The pool was not open all day (they had time slots), the waves and slide were not operating although they said they would be. I was told the vent system was not working and it was \"dangerous\" to be in there. That's fine, but when I asked if it was getting fixed staff said \"I don't know\". House keeping woke me up knocking loudly and non stop at 8am. When I went to the door wondering it could only be an emergency, the house keeper turned her back and walked away without even explaining her actions. I was left with a headache for my drive back home. The playroom was closed and staff didn't know when it would be open. When I complained, the person at reception did a sad face and noded her head, but did nothing to repair the problems I had described. She gave me the manager's email. When I came back to check I had the right email address, I find out the manager was there! I asked to talk to him, but he did not leave his room and she came back telling me to phone him later. Honestly, I never had such disapointing experience before and I've traveled to many many places.

This hotel is adequate and has good and not-so-good aspects.

First of all is the late check-in time. 4pm seems a bit late, especially for families. On the good side, we were allowed to use the pool while we waited.

The pool is a good resource but as with many MacDonald Hotels these days, parts of it are tired and need work. Half the showers in the changing rooms were not working and created queues.

In the room, I was lead to believe from photos that the family room would have a double bed and two singles instead of a double and one single. Adequate but nothing more. Also, the television didn't really work. At first, there was no audio for television and then it would switch off randomly. Wifi wasn't very strong.

The room was tired and in urgent need of TLC. It was not the cleanest of hotels either. I was disappointed as I have always admired from a far and was looking forward to this stay with my family.

Cleanliness should be a given at least but sadly I had to endure what was as it was under staffed and if I asked any questions it always seemed to be a struggle or inconvenience.

Macdonald hotel was meant to be 4 star. Can safely say 2/3 star. Mould in bathrooms. Unclean bathroom floors. Side panal of the path was water damaged by many years of usage. The buildings are very old now and in major need of upgrade and repair. Including restuarants. We have visited maybe 5 times over the last 10 years and this time was the most disappointing. It doesnt have the 4 star feel and next time definitely be booking else where sad to say. Time for some maintenance. Couldnt even get a latte with breakfast, had to pay extra. Paid £650 for 2 nights and couldnt even have a latte for breakfast. 😂

The room smelt of damp, restricting my breathing considerably and needing an emergency prescription. I requested a dehumidifier but was assured they could use a purifier when I was out of the room, no evidence this was executed as it didn’t help.
When I expressed my concern at reception I was told they would look out for the next customer. I feel I should have been offered another room as I tried to explain I am asthmatic and a diabetic…..
This spoilt my stay and I will not be staying again. A real pity as the breakfast was very good and the restaurant staff were excellent.

Our stay was fine…. However I definitely wouldn’t say it was a four star hotel. The shower was broken and the room was damp with excessive condensation on the inside of the window. Phoned and asked for shower to be looked at at 4pm and still not done by 9pm. We were assured the GM would contact us the following morning but nil contact. Apart from that the staff were nice at check in, and at breakfast. Children enjoyed the pool and the disco.

We will not be going back to McDonald’s Highland Resort the room service was very poor, our room was still not serviced at 17:00 this happen two days running had to go to reception before it was done. The breakfast was very poor my wife got food poisoning after the breakfast on Saturday as the sausage she had partly eaten hadn’t been fully cooked. The hotel is very shabby worn carpets worn furniture it needs a complete refurb. We have been going to that hotel at least once or twice a year over the last 20 years, over the last five years it has gradually gone downhill and this was probably the worst it been. McDonald’s should not be charging those rates for this hotel as it is not up to a 4 star rating we were very disappointed. Regards, Charles Nisbet

I was nervous about staying here based on other reviews I read, but thought this hotel seemed like a good family friendly option in Aviemore. I should have listened to the reviews. We were very unhappy with our stay at this hotel. The rooms were disgusting- dirty, dingy, old, smelly and holes in the sheets. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. There is no air conditioning and the room was hot. We were able to open the window but there was no screen so bugs flew in. The whole place needs to be redone. The hotel breakfast was OK, onsite parking is a plus and the location is great, but we could not wait to get out of there.

Great location and good breakfast. However, hotel overall extremely dated and things look dirty.

The pool area was extremely dirty looking and the Spa pool was not on so extremely disappointing. None of these would be major issues if it were not for the price you pay. One of the things we paid to go there for was a spa pool.

The bed was comfy enough. There are only two usable sockets for plugs in room as others are the special lamp sockets so not great if have more than two things to be plugged in at once.

We were given a room with a connecting door and we were surrounded by bus loads of Chinese on a tour and it was so noisy i struggled to sleep . I could hear every word said by the people in the connecting room the hairdryer was so loud it may as well have been in the room with us . Then it all started up again at 6.30am , while i appreciate that the hotel cant be held responsible for the noise of other guests i do think we should not have been given a room in amongst a large bus load of people that were clearly travelling together . The adjoining door was next to the suitcase stand meaning every time they went in their suitcase it banged our door .
We only arrived 45 minutes before the official check in but were made to wait again i appreciate we were a bit early but in all my travel's i never known a hotel not letting people in a little bit early as the room was clearly ready by 3.15 when we arrived so this was a bit petty .

The shower intermittently went from normal to scalding without warning so my young children got scalded by it.
The breakfast were not good, the food was overcooked and even when we came down early for breakfast one of the days(07:30) the food was already dried out. The buffet breakfasts at premier inn and travel lodge is way better than your breakfast , I would expect a lot better from you since you are charging a premium for staying there ( plus having to pay extra for the breakfast)
I have been in the hospitality business for over 32 years, so I know there is no excuse for these things.

Came for the skiing over NY but not able to due to warm weather. Faculties at the hotel were great and it was clean and comfortable. It is within walking distance of all the restaurants and bars on the Main Street. Great location to travel to activities but a car is recommended. We would certainly recommend and will be returning in March.

It was a really nice stay but I felt that things had gone downhill a little bit from the last time. The food was like warm in the restaurant (particularly at breakfast) and the hotel is starting to need a bit of an upgrade with regards to decor. The staff were very friendly particularly the reception staff and where the hotel is is very lovely. I felt we were shoved in a room though that had absolutely no view of anything other than a wall which was very disappointing considering how expensive it was.

I booked a suite for 1 night for our wedding anniversary. Rather over priced for what we got. Just shy of £200 not worth it. The room was very used, the tie back hooks were ripped out the wall, the shower
head leaked so the pressure wasn't good, there was make up stains around the mirror, the fire alarm was hanging from the ceiling. Our friend paid for surprise balloons and a voucher for the bar. These did not materialise. We ate at the hotel restaurant. It was clean but also very used and worn out. Big chips out of the table. Cracked glass. The food it's self was average. Safe to say we won't stay there again. The staff were all nice and polite. But definitely not a 4 star hotel.

So disappointing considering the amount we paid for the night. Was not worth it at all. Our room - we could hear every conversation next door were having like we were in the same room. The shower and bathroom was awful. The water was either scalding or cold and trickling out of the shower.
Breakfast was awful. The side plate and milk jug were dirty with food stuck on it and tea stains. Ordered tea for two and got a pot for one and when asked for more took ages to come. No rush about the staff at all. Cleanliness is not great in the hotel. I would not recommend to stay and will not be staying there again.
Then we went to use the swimming pool. The fire alarm went off no one moved asked a life guard was not the fire alarm and where do we go. He said it’s for another building if you want to leave you can but you can just go into the pool if you want? Some families were leaving in their swim suits and others stayed? Ridiculous. So disappointed considering how fancy the Macdonald resort think they are. Very out dated. Needs a good clean. Unfortunately never took photos at breakfast as never had phone but staff were aware of the dirty dishes.

Cold breakfast every morning, served on cold plates. also kept running out or eggs’ potato scones etc. long wait to be seated, 15 mins., standing at the top of the stairs ( with 4 collapsed discs in my spine.) finally get your tea, no milk. Next day no toast, more cold food. Service was so slow. Staff are run off their feet trying to cope. I said to an older woman serving at the food counter, maybe need more staff. She implied it was our fault for all turning up at the same time. I politely asked what is the best time to come for breakfast..to avoid this..she said, don’t turn up at the same time. Hotel is not 4 star. We’ve stayed in many in Dubai etc. dated, overpriced, understaffed. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. We spent an hour in the bar, a large crowd of people finished their drink and left. The cluttered 7 tables weren’t cleared at any time during our hour. Even though the bar staff had gone from 1 to 3. And no one waiting to be served. I couldn’t get my small shop mobility scooter to my room, as we were on a split level landing..lift was up, or down 9 stairs! Room was pleasant if a bit old..and it was clean. Warm enough. Sorry to be so disappointed. It was a treat fit my hubby 82nd birthday. Hotel is central to shoot etc.

Bit disappointed for what we paid for the hotel. It was lovely downstairs but although the room appeared clean the less obvious areas required a good dusting. There was also no fridge which we have had in all the hotel rooms we have stayed in in recent years. The buffet breakfast was an also disappointing. On the first day the hot food was not hot and was slightly undercooked. Second day was acceptable but the third day it was overcooked, particularly the bacon. However all staff we had dealings with were very pleasant and helpful. The swimming pool and leisure centre was also excellent.

We were at the MacDonald hotel for 2 nights with our family of 8 in three rooms. Breakfast was excellent, as was one dinner which we enjoyed in the Aspects restaurant. ''all in a great experience!

Macdonald hotels used to be much more pleasant to stay in, but the touch of class just isn't there anymore. Our bathroom was dirty, the bedding had tears in it, there were no sockets next to the bed, the shower water pressure spluttered and scalded me every so often, the supposed sofa bed for my daughter was actually a camp bed... The resort itself was ok, although with just one slide the pool was lackluster. The team did make an effort to put in events for the children but we didn't bother using them as we really just wanted to explore the beautiful surrounding area. There was lots of choice at breakfast time but none of it was especially tasty.

Poor poor hotel service!

The hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade. The beds are comfortable & clean but the furnishings carpets etc are in a bad state of repair. The
Bedside lamp continually flickered on & off & made a spark! We were given wrong information twice about the time that the swimming pool opened which in turn meant we missed the time to go in for the flumes & wave machine to be on at! So 2 very unhappy grandchildren indeed! We had been informed that breakfast was served until 10.30 but when we got there at 9.55 & they were finishing the service. All they could offer was making us 2 plates of anything left lying in the hot plate (so we received 2 plates of cold bard bacon sausages eggs (which you could bounce off the floor cold everything!)! We did get some fresh tea though !!! We then asked when we take our grandchildren to the soft play area could we buy a coffee there & maybe some kind of food/croissants/ sandwiches etc & the receptionist Sofia said oh yes you will get coffee etc there - low & behold nothing there & the assistant on the soft play desk said oh they stopped serving there weeks ago & she had apparently been told they were going to put in vending machines! (Ashame the receptionist of the hotel didn’t know this?)! Unhappy indeed we were with our (planned) fun time of swimming & having fun at the pool then going to soft play which the 2 kids enjoyed 👍 So, lastly the advertised kids play in the craft room was just a ‘help yourself’ not at all organised so we are unhappy.

Wonderful stay with my 4 year old son.

A great campus with swimming pool (wave machine and flume a huge hit!), play park and the kids disco in the evenings were fantastic.

Centrally located to the town with plenty of parking for a great base for an aviemore adventure holiday

Staff were all incredible - friendly and helpful! Hotel itself is very dated though and made room seem like it needed a good clean!! and therefore not good value for money in my opinion! Breakfast wasn’t great either with all stations again seeming untidy.

Poor from start to finish. Handed schedule of activities which was incorrect both times we tried to access the pool. Sons bed was for a toddler and despite requests wasn't changed. Breakfast poor and staff rude.
Was promised a call from the manager, but I'm still waiting.
Hotel was full of tourists, who I felt most sorry for if their was their first impression of Scottish hospitality.

Amazing stay, the hotel was spotless, the staff very helpful and friendly, great service and do much to entertain the family. Great for all ages.
