I had an excellent stay at this historic hotel. It was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The bar and restaurant were also very good.
Great views over the surrounding area and within east walking distance of the city center.
I would thoroughly recommend!

Your lobby and dining room has been beautifully modernized, but it is anticlimactic to enter your guest rooms which looks like they haven't been upgraded in 20 years. You should also invest in memory foam mattresses.

Historic hotel that could use a bit of an update

This historic hotel is renowned as the place where Paul Rusesabagina courageously sheltered and saved over 1,500 individuals during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, a story vividly portrayed in the film \"Hotel Rwanda.\" While there is a plaque honoring the hotel staff who tragically lost their lives during this dark period, it would have been meaningful to see a tribute specifically recognizing Rusesabagina's heroism.

The hotel itself, though somewhat dated, offers a charming ambiance and is impeccably clean. The staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Dining at the main floor restaurant is a treat, with a menu featuring delicious local cuisine. The included breakfast is decent, highlighted by a nice omelette bar, though nothing particularly extraordinary.

We stayed in a spacious and comfortable junior suite, though the shag carpet certainly felt like a blast from the past. The pool area is inviting, and the Friday night cultural show is a must-see experience. Overall, we found the hotel to offer great value for the price.

Nice hotel but some issues.

The hotel was fine. For some reason, the restaurant was closed for dinner but it was possible to get food at the bar. One night, I was woken 3 times by hotel staff for no good reason and the hotel is threatening to charge me for a cancelled reservation. There are some very good people working there but overall it was not my best hotel experience.

The only comments was on the rooms. I felt to be small somewhat cramped especially the bathroom Did not like the tub found it slippery preferred a simple shower. Also TV only had one operating channel and only one coffee cup. But the lobby pool and grounds were superb, restful.

The property itself was very beautiful, but a little outdated. The rooms were nothing to write home about. However, all of the amenities that you needed were provided for. The staff was exceedingly helpful and was happy to arrange Tours, exchange money and really complete any task that you needed help with. The food at the hotel was good and the breakfast buffet was exceptional.

This hotel was beautiful, the service excellent, and the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. This is a historical hotel which was a victim/and witness to the genocide of 1994. And yet they have carried on and risen above the horrific events of that time; and have turned this hotel into the beautiful place it is. There is a plaque at the front of the hotel commemorating the hotel staff that had been killed during this time of genocide. God bless these people for their courage in being able to move on with their lives. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to go to Kigali to stay at this hotel

Decent but showing its age

Nice historic hotel (it was where refugees were sheltered during the genocide), great bar/restaurant(s) and pool. The rooms however are showing their age, the carpet is stained and the shower sometimes goes from hot to cold unexpectedly. But overall, quite decent.

The Hotel is in a great location. Staff are very friendly. Breakfast was great.
My only complaint was the room we were given. The room was too old for the amount we paid.
Other than that, all was good. We shall definitely be back.

Booked 6 rooms. None were ready when we showed up at 4:30pm. Some waited over an hour and were just to sit down and wait when any inquiries were made.

Then given a room overlooking trash dumpsters. AC did not work in a couple of rooms.

Expected better and won't be staying again.

It was a real pleasure to stay here. Agnes and Dahlia at the spa are lovely and the services were excellent.

However, the rooms could use freshening up (but they were very clean), and the water pressure in the shower could have been better.

Equivalent to a Motel 6, Skip and Stay at Marriott

I wanted to like this property due to its historical significance but the reality is that this is a run down hotel in need of desperate repair. By US standards, it is NOT a 4 star hotel, it’s more like a Motel 6 with a restaurant. Everything from the rooms to bathrooms, hallways and building exterior are run down. My bathroom had so little water pressure that I was unable to shower. My stay was so terrible that I ended up leaving and staying at the nearby Marriott instead, which is a nice and clean 5 star that was only $20 more per night than here.

I particularly like this hotel and have stayed here for many years; the staff, specifically is terrific. There is only one thing that disturbs me and that is the loud music played at night is very annoying. I always get a room with a balcony...I like the fresh air, and as such usually leave the doors to the balcony open. At night that is not possible... the music is so loud I cannot hear the TV or use the phone....even with the doors shut the noise permeates through.....I probably will not stay here again because of this....my greatest priority is to get some quiet rest and its now impossible.

I really liked this property. There is security upon entering the hotel so that’s comforting to know your items get scanned. They have 2 restaurants on site, a pool, and a massage tent. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout each step of my needs. They even went as far as to surprise me for my birthday while eating at the restaurant!! I would go back here time and time again.

The hotel has an amazing view and great history but as far as service goes it leaves a lot to be desired for the price that it asks.

For starters breakfast was very bland and not much choice. One day I found hair on my plate and mentioned to the waiter who came and checked it out and he just didn't say anything. Another day I got something on the bar and as I was with a colleagues he offered to pay his part in cash and for my part I asked to pay by card when I noticed the waiter hadn't bothered to deduct the cash and made me pay the full price through card. Even though i paid a premium price for a double bed room all i got was a room with two single bed with two single mattered stuck together and the only thing join them was the sheet on top.

So all in all nice view of Kigali from the 4th floor restaurant but everything else was just crap

This is my second stay at the hotel. I chose this hotel again for my stay because of its ideal location - near to the airport, shops and restaurants nearby, pleasant location.

The whole experience at the hotel is one that is very welcoming for the traveller. The reception staff are very helpful and provide a prompt check-in. The room was clean and there is a kettle for tea or coffee.

The hotel has a couple of restaurant options that offer a decent breakfast and other meals. There is also room service. The wifi service in the room is satisfactory. The hotel has good security.

The staff was amazing and the food was good (although it is the only place I ate the last few days and now not feeling well with stomach). The pool was very nice and my wife had a great massage. Very nice location. They initially placed us in a room with a view of the parking lot and a roof, and upgraded us by our request to a room with some view of the city and the thatched roof over the bar. We also got a kettle and frig. It was supposed to be $25/day extra, but they didn't charge it so that was very nice. The gym aerobic equipment didn't work, but there was a nice gym they let you use about 5 minutes away. The shower had poor pressure and sometime ran out of hot water in 3 minutes. A few things to attend to, but all in all a great experience.

The only con I saw there is about the breakfast place. Since I walk with a cane, it's hard to climb the stairs with no handrail. For someone in a wheelchair, it would be inpossible. But the place is very good.

It is a little tired, compared to the newer hotels. Also basic needs, e.g. number of wall sockets in the rooms, are not sufficient for the modern guest with all the technology. Hot water in the shower was only tepid.
