Large room with surprise kitchenette. Leaky faucets, tepid water, burned out bulbs, frayed carpeting, sway back beds.
Hate to sound so negative. Beautiful location less than half block from bird refuge path and other shopping areas. Certainly the price was right and this is why. Just needs a complete overall! Did not check out the pool area.

We stayed 3 nights.
The rooms are not very clean. It wasn’t until our second night that we noticed there was a gray zip up jacket in between the TV and dresser. Which shows that they don’t thoroughly and properly clean.
Additionally, on the first day of check-in, there were stains on our bedsheets. we called someone to come change it, and there was a woman and man that came to change it. Upon entering the room, the woman really annoyed. I showed them the stain and the woman immediately got defensive in a way and said that that’s just the scenes from bleach that it’s fine. I understood and still told them that I would like it changed. They changed it and then they noticed that there was another stain and she got a little bit more upset, speaking in Spanish that they’re all gonna look like that because they use chemicals or bleach. My husband speaks Spanish so he noticed her responses were kind of aggressive in a way until he spoke Spanish right back to her and her responses shifted a bit.
Anyways, they put in brand new sheets, which is what should be the standard anyway.

on the second or third night at around midnight, a man came to our door and woke me and my husband up by yelling and knocking on the door. When my husband responded, he ran away or went somewhere else we think. We were coming out of sleep. But that was an experience that we’ve never had before. We couldn’t even call the front desk because the phones don’t work at all.

The room had a balcony on it and when I went check if the sliding Door was locked I discovered it didn't have a lock at all. Dead baby critters on the bathroom floor. Kids running up and down the hallway at 10:00 Pm. Loud Eastern Indian Music playing in the parking lot. The carpets in the hall had to be the original one form when the building was built and they were black. The carpets in the room seem to be changed but I slept in clothes and shoes. Never again !

If you want to get a beautiful lake view, it’s the place to go. The only thing, you don’t get much of a continental breakfast, so bring your own. The bed and couch are also really old, & no smart TV in the bedroom.

I have been staying at Coral Reef for years! This trip was no different in meeting my expectations (clean rooms, available items in the restrooms, decent options for breakfast--but the inn is walking distance from a plaza with much to offer, so this has never been an issue for us).

The only exception which had taken us aback this visit was not being given a parking pass for the lot (which was a first for us) it was kinda shrugged off when we inquired about it. Also, not offering or pre-providing one of the \"Do Not Disturb\" door dangers--which was oddly a first as well. When we asked for one, they just pulled out a blank door hanger and hand-wrote it in. (Something anyone could have done. So again, odd; and slightly unprofessional in our opinion)

These two points docked a star for us in rating this trip simply because we've never experienced that in our past visits; and for safety purposes (being undisturbed throughout the trip) and for peace of mind (knowing we would not get towed parking in the inn's parking lot), I think they're important enough.

They location was perfect.. loved how the waters n mall are walking distance..

The hotel has potential.. you can tell it is very old.. DEFINITELY NEEDS BE CARPET THRU OUT THE WHOLE PLACE!!!

Staff members were very helpful but they looked and acted like they did not want to be there!! No smiles no personality .. just robots doing their jobs.. nothing more or less to accommodate the customers..

The stay was a nightmare. It was impossible to connect to the wifi during the entire stay, even though we informed the reception. the phone in the room was disconnected and it was impossible to contact the reception. To flush the toilet, we had to remove the water tank lid and pull the cord for it to work.
The place is not suitable for hospitality. Third world conditions.

We were given a \"suite\" which included a kitchen. The refrigerator came in handy as we had leftovers from eating out. There was a microwave to heat our food but there were no dishes to heat them in. My husband got ill while staying there so we were going to heat up some chicken noodle soup on the stove but the stove didn't work because it wasn't even plugged in! The bedroom was kinda dark as there was no ceiling light. There was a lamp on the dresser but there was no bulb in it. We enjoyed the larger space but the motel was a bit run down and there seemed to be families living there on a regular basis which seemed odd. The location was great. I do hope the owner can invest in the property and make repairs and upgrades. Our son lives in Alameda and we would like to stay there in the future but make look at other options to feel more comfortable. Staff was courteous.

The Inn needs to be renovated. The carpet is beyond cleaning with a vacuum, curtain was torn, mattress was lumpy, bed skirtting was torn, only cold water in shower, free breakfast was limited to 2 dry cereals and milk, yogurt, apple, bread for toast with butter and jelly, orange juice and coffee each day. The TV guide didn't show the correct time of day so it was difficult to find programs and when they would be airing.

The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service.

The Property needs an update. Rooms an common areas could use new carpets! The room i booked* wich was large with a balcony) was ok ,but the TV and Phone and many of the light switches did not work! We were moved to another room with a workin TV... but it was literally the size of a Box! An was just overal TERRIBLE!

Such a great location! The price for a room is very inexpensive but the rooms are dirty and could use a little upgrade. Just a suggestion - maybe upgrade like 20 rooms with new curtains and bedding - probs can get double the money for a slightly upgraded, cleaner room. The drapes have a foot of mold and water stains coming up from the bottom. Just looks gross.
I've reviewed before and said the same thing. Great location - maybe just get a few curtains and throw pillows from Marshalls and keep a few tidy rooms! It would be nice. So sad to see such an amazing location go to waste....

If it wasn't for the location I'd have given it a poor rating, our room key never worked from the first time we tried it, we had to get a staff person to open door for us everytime we came back from our outings, we were told someone would look at it but no one ever did, and the AC unit did not work, no cold air but like I said location was good

Cons: Bad internet, broken appliances, issues with wasps, very VERY dirty carpets (wear sandals around and not just socks), lack of decent plug outlets that work. Location needs some work when it comes to appearances.

The room smelled very musty and in some areas smelled of urine or something similarly foul. The internet did not work. The wifi given was not available as written and the password did not work with the wifi names that were similar. The chair and sofa in the living area were uncomfortable to sit in. I did enjoy the view from the patio and the amount of space were nice. The tv was easy to sign into my accounts so I could conveniently watch my streaming services.

Driving up it looked a little outdated but fine. Checking in was great and friendly. Walking up the stairs to second floor to my room was gross. Stairs were nasty dirty and stinky. Got to room and the light wouldn’t turn on. Kept flickering so we just kept it off. Not a big deal since the other lights worked. But inside the room the carpet was just as gross. Visibly dirt spots and squeaky floor underneath. The curtain in front of the sliding door was also disgustingly dirty. The beds were awful to sleep on. You could feel the springs. The walls were dirty next to the bathroom door handle. The remote had nasty gunk in between the buttons. The only plus was that the sheets smelled clean and so did the towels in the bathroom. Do your self a favor and look somewhere else to stay.

The stairs from the lobby to the 2nd floor looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. The carpet was threadbare. When we opened the door to our room it immediately smelled terrible. The room was so questionable that we went across the street to Home Goods to buy sheets and a candle. We did not bother to try the provided breakfast.

The Coral Reef Inn is in a great location, just a short walk to the beach and plenty of nearby shopping and dining. Breakfast is complimentary but very limited—cereal, yogurt, toast, coffee, and juice—enough for a light start but nothing filling. The pool area definitely needs work, as the fencing is rusted and falling apart, which feels unsafe with children around. Parking, however, was plentiful and convenient. The property seems to have both short-term guests and long-term residents, as some balconies were clearly personalized and decorated. Staff was overall kind and helpful, though communication could be limited at times. The front desk stood out as knowledgeable and professional; one staff member mentioned working there for over 16 years, which gave confidence in the management. We had one minor issue with our key cards, but maintenance quickly resolved it. Our room was comfortable, though very outdated in décor, but everything worked as needed. The big plus was having a working stove and oven, which made preparing meals easy. Wi-Fi was spotty but manageable. Overall, my family enjoyed our stay, and despite its dated look, the inn offered comfort, convenience, and good value for the location. We’ll keep it in mind for future visits. For a great nearby meal, check out South Shore Café—a cozy mom-and-pop spot serving delicious breakfast and lunch, highly recommended.

Noisy families nearby, late at night. Old decor and fixtures, furniture, plumbing, lighting, etc. Booked double queen beds, but ended up with a single queen bed. “Continental breakfast” limited to coffee, toast, and chocolate treat.

We had stayed here several times previously, but the property has become shabby. Desk personnel were friendly and efficient.

Weird Stains all over the curtains and walls, tub and ceilings were moldy, the air conditioner didn't work at all, thankfully there was one old ceiling fan but was very wobbly. The balcony outside had a wasp nest so we coundnt go out there. The place looks like it hasn't had any type of remodel since the early eighties. No joke. Shady people lurk around the streets and parking lot. Breakfast is super minimal and sad. Honestly I never leave reviews on any hotels but this was pretty crappy especially for being over $100. I wouldn't complain if I was paying about $50 a night..this is what id expect. Pics online are decieving too.

Terrible place to stay and don’t recommend to anyone. Supposedly it is a no smoking hotel but soon as you opened the door you get hit in the face with the stench of cigarettes. Light switches not working or lights flickering. Furniture reeked and dirty and bugs everywhere. I had booked for two nights, We couldn’t sleep and had to rough it out for the night and was out at first light. Definitely not worth the money.

Coral Reef has always had a fabulous reputation - great location and a fun family place to stay during vaca times. It’s sad to see the decline of the property over the last 30 yrs since I’ve known it. Just sad. I mean - it’s ok to not upgrade - but how hard is it to vacuum and mop? I was surprised to see how unclean the rooms were. While in my room, I stepped on a pinto bean, an m and m and touched a band aid that was stuck to the side of the bed. I’ve always enjoyed staying there - despite the riff raff in and around the building but sadly - this will be last visit. I’m pretty easy going but the rooms were even too filthy and unkempt for the most relaxed me! Most places to stay in the area are not that great either and charge twice the price so pick your poison!

Upon arrival, check-in went smoothly with friendly check-in staff...but then I went upstairs.

Though it's supposed to be non-smoking, outside my room door reeked of cigarettes

Inside the room, wet kitchen floor, stained curtains and carpet with saggy uncomfortable beds that look like salvation army rejected them ( not fit to even sell).

The faucet had a constant drip in the kitchenette ( quite annoying) and the linolium in kitchen and bath was moldy and tore up around the edges at the wall and connecting parts ( seams/ molding etc)

The only ceiling fan in the room had cobwebs

The tv remote died and needed to ask staff for new batteries ( the originals were corroded)

Pool was cold ( as expected, thankfully but water not overly chlorinated and water not crystal clear)...Thought about it later and wondered how often they clean it and chlorenate it since the room was inadequately cleaned.

Pros: 1)Affordable 2)kitchen for cooking and a larger shared guest kitchen by the pool with pots/ pans etc. so own cookware and dishes not needed, even has dishwasher 3) location is peak just one bowling alley away from the beach and bowling alley has arcade ( fun experience 😀)

Overall, location peak but motel property itself needs major renovations and proper cleanliness lacking

The property seemed like it was a long term living facility. When we went to check in we were told they dont have the room we reserved but they had something similar. We went into the room and it was extremely dirty with cigarette burn marks in the bedding and on the floor, blood stains on the curtains for the back deck and suspicious white stains on the chairs and floors, could have been human or something else but we're not too sure. The bed looked like someone rolled in it before we got there and the shower was wet like someone just showered then left.
