The room was clean, I guess it’d be hard to not clean a 12x12 room with barely any room. The hotel itself was nice but the area is horrible, I hope you know how to fight vagrants if you want you stay here because you’ll get harassed anywhere you walk around the downtown area. Staff was great once you’re inside and the lobby security is great for someone that can open a door. 0/10 chance I’ll stay here again for the sole purpose of the area is trashed, the areas “residents” are problematic. Keep your belongings tight and maybe take some personal defense classes if you wanna visit Oakland lol

My daughter and I stayed the night after the Jessie Murph concert. Great location!! Only a quick, straight 4 block walk to the venue, which was so nice to not have to get parking. Loved that you had to have a key to use the elevator…made me feel safe and secure.

In concept- I wanted to like it. I’m going back to Berkeley this weekend but staying elsewhere.

The cleaning people and car service guys are the only nice people. If you check in later at night the service workers for check in are very short (morning people are fine). The Taco Bell across the street has a closed lobby that says a lot.

Front desk staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The tvs weren’t working when I got there and one of the elevators were down. When I left, both elevators were down. The room was very cute but the hallways were dimly lit and a little creepy, but overall a good budget option.

I booked the room because ive seen the hotel from the streets and it looked peaceful. There's a veey large comfy terrace.
Then I read the reviews and was nervous. Most people complained about lots of things. Cleanliness was not a complaint. That made me feel better.
So my son and I and our cat stayed for the weekend. The staff was welcoming and our check in was fast and easy. The room was very clean. It is small and there isnt a dresser, but the room and bathroom was very clean. We enjoyed quiet night sleeps and the lounge area was large and comfy.

Overall. I’d say the visit was great. Needed something close to stay and pricing was a factor for my budget. Rooms and shower look exactly as the photos shown, as well as the main lobby. I wasn’t aware of the required deposit on arrival, and nowhere was it specified to pay for a deposit, other than the usual hotel needing a Credit card on file for purchases, room service etc etc; but never a deposit. So be prepared for that. Lady was nice who checked me in, and for a Sunday, bar is closed and surrounding stores, food, entertainment is closed as well with little to no options to eat close by. Elevator does need upgrading as the button panel is about to fall off and pressing level 2,3,4 does not work so you have to take the stairs.1 of 2 elevators was out of service for maintenced while other had a broken almost about to fall off “button panel” that’s on its last leg. BUT, room was perfect, AC was cold and I couldn’t figure out how to turn off or set to auto the AC but u gotta check the different options and turn up the AC and set to auto or off. I was freezing in middle of night until I figured it out. (I did get my deposit back after a few days which they stated 3-5 business days so I’m happy)

Received a free drink voucher (for beer, wine, or coffee) with our room key. Went to redeem it and was told they didn’t have beer, the espresso machine was broken, and the bar “should be open, but the bartender isn’t here”.
Claimed there was 24-hour security at the parking lot across the street, and, in the same breath, asked that guests provide a 10-minute warning when returning to the lot “so they could send a security guard out to open the gate”.
Room was pretty nice and clean. Very few amenities.
Overall, seemed like maybe they’re close to going out of business and are simply limping along to the end with minimal costs?

We spent three nights and felt like Moxy Oakland was overhyped. One of the two elevators was out of service, the morning coffee service was out of service, the shower was barely hot, there was a king size bed in a room that needed a queen, one chair, no side table on one side of the bed — first world problems to be sure but the website made it sound much more special than it was.

Moxy was a great stop for a quick trip to Oakland. The hotel lobby is a great spot to meet with friends prior to going out any time of day. My bed was super comfortable and the room was plenty spacious. The elevator was really slow (and one was out of service) so I took the stairs multiple times which is fine by me. I'd definitely stay here again.

Good clean place for a short stay. Hotel is a bit unorthodox in some ways but I like it. Rooms are New York style, small but clean, comfortable and well organized. Staff is friendly. The neighborhood is what it is, but if you open your eyes and mind, downtown Oakland is just fine. There are really great restaurants close by.

Went to the bar twice for a drink. Never did get one. The first time, we were told the bartender was on a break. The second time the bartender did not acknowledge us. I would say we waited for five to 10 minutes. We would of understood if the bar was really busy.

Parking was a little annoying as you had to be let into the lot by security at the front desk (though he was prompt and friendly). I prepaid for the nights but when I checked in they charged me several hundred additional dollars for \"incidentals\". !? I guess this is the Intercontinental? Nowhere during my booking, on their website, or on any sign at the check in did it mention this large additional charge that won't be refunded until 7-10 days?!

Moxy is a mindset. It belongs to Marriot but it has lots of character. It doesn’t feel sterile, and it offers a variety of activities like trivia night or DJ knights, and games during the week. Their bar is cool and open until 2pm on Thursday. Leilani, David and Thor other front desk coworkers are super nice and took care of my needs. My only complain was the non-working phone (they have bedside stories on it) and and broken AC. They are walking distance from great restaurants and short Ubers from other attractions. I’ll make sure to go back when we are in the area

Moxy Oakland Uptown is a chic hotel with a cool vibe, good bar, and a great and friendly staff. The neighborhood is close to some homeless camps and the pay parking lots nearby are not secure at all. The Moxy subleases a parking lot which is fully fenced and is secure. It is across the street and to the left of the front of the hotel so not super convenient but it was worth the $47.00 daily parking fee for the peace of mind knowing that our car was not going to be broken into. The room is nicely furnished, modern, and the TV must have been 80\" and 4K. We stayed for one night only for my nephew's wedding. The room was super quiet, the bed was great, and overall I give this place a thumbs up.

The wheelchair accessible rooms did not have blackout curtains as advertised, but the manager kindly moved me to a room that could accommodate my chair and had that needed amenity. Hotel was pretty and staff was nice, but we had the following issues:
1. No shower water pressure (have video but I’m unable to upload)
2. Elevator safety permit expired by 3 years
3. AC was not working. Set at 64° and room was consistently hot at 75-77°. Staff brought us 2 fans.

Upon check~in, the guy working check in desk tried to charge me for taxes on the room. He then told me parking was $47. I reminded him that the room was paid in full, and told him the Expedia confirmation number. I also reminded him that their website said parking was $41 dollars. I also show him the website. He said $47 included taxes and the website was incorrect. The room door wouldn’t open and one of the two elevators was out of service. I will not be staying here again.

Big wet spot on the bed! They kindly cleaned it up. We were told to “then just go to another hotel” when we were concerned that the water was being turned off all day for repairs. They gave us a wheelchair accessible room. Not asked for. Only FIVE INCHES between the bed and the wall. The other side was designed for the wheelchair. If you are handicapped then travel ALONE to this hotel. Shower knob fell off. Paint flaking off soap holder. Window blinds would not open due to broken controls. No one came to fix it. Nothing covering the cold hard cement floor. I assume it’s for wheelchairs but is really unfriendly for others. “City view” was a joke. No restaurant. But it looked like a fun bar for people under 40. And I wouldn’t call it “downtown”. More like downtown adjacent. They shouldn’t just try to be cool with the really cheap decor.

Great Room, But Some Inconveniences During Our Sta
The room itself was great—clean, comfortable, and perfect for a good night’s sleep! However, there were a couple of downsides to our stay. The water was shut off at 8 AM (we were notified in advance), which meant we had to wake up extra early to shower. Additionally, the cook was unavailable, so there were no food options, only free beer. While we appreciated the complimentary drink, having no meal options was inconvenient. Overall, a good stay, but these issues could be improved for a better experience.

Parking is self park in a lot across the street for $50 no matter the circumstances. (We got in at 11pm and were leaving at 5am and it didnt matter) we booked a king size bed and it definitely was a queen. Just so happen the power went out or someething earlier that day so there was no TV or internet or phone. So we had to go down to get info on that since the phones didnt work. As a mom with a family traveling TV was so important. And they didnt even let us know at check in

Doesn’t live up to Marriott Standards
Although this hotel is fairly close to Lake Merritt, some good coffee shops, and restaurants-it lacks a lot. Parking is terrible….had to wait more than 20 minutes to get our car. (No valet parking). Coffee in lobby was never hot, they didn’t have creamer. Hallways are dark, hotel is old, not clean. I would definitely look elsewhere.

I didn’t even get to check in and had to get a refund because the hotel does not have valet and the receptionist who was very rude and condescending when she told me this, said that they have limited self parking and they were full. Basically with an attitude like “sucks to suck”. Luckily I was able to get a refund but now my NYE plans are cancelled =(

We love the Moxie brand hotels! They're chic, eccentric, comfortable, and always in a convenient location. This one is right near the Paramount and Fox Theaters, so it's perfect if you're coming in from out of town to see a show or concert.
