This is a little gem of a hotel right in the middle of the prettiest part of Nuremberg's old town and historic centre. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful and the woman at Reception went out of her way to suggest places of interest and give advice. Breakfast was really good and the hotel was very clean and quiet. All in all, an excellent choice and great value.

This place is a hidden gem, if you like a small hotel with lots of character. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. The rooms are rather small and spartan, but the section of the building we were in was built in 1345, so set your expectations accordingly. Underground parking for your is right next door and you can easily walk to everything, so it's very convenient. I will definitely stay there again next time!

Prior to our arrival, I asked for a first floor room based on recent double knee surgery. Upon arrival it was disclosed that they had put us on the third floor. Though the front desk did have someone help us with the luggage, it was tough to go up and down the stairways. Other than that, the stay was nice, breakfast was good and they did get us a taxi for a very early flight.

This is a lovely hotel in old Nuremberg. Great location, at the edge of the pedestrian area, and close to the Dürer House and the Nuremberg castle. Clean and nicely set-up, with friendly staff. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Charming historic hotel, great location
The Hotel Elch is a quaint, charming hotel in a perfect location. The part we stayed in was the historic building with half timbered walls. There are stairs to get to the rooms, which are on the small side, but still comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Definitely will be back and would stay at hotel Elch again. If you are looking for a small, charming, unique hotel this is it. I loved hearing the church bells throughout the day! The hote is beautiful and has a balcony at the back of the hotel were you can enjoy a drink or food. We enjoyed our room overlooking the street. The rooms are spacious and clean. Recommend parking outside the city as the streets are small and google maps aren’t always correct. When we arrived it was spring festival which added to the atmosphere and liveliness of the city. Great location.

I stayed here for one weekend during my study abroad trip and absolutely loved it. The hotel is walking distance to many of the city’s main attractions, and the staff was beyond excellent. The room was small, but perfect for a solo traveller like myself, and was very clean. I would absolutely stay here again next time I visit Nürnberg!

This hotel works surprisingly well for a business trip, and will all its history has bags of character. The staff are obviously proud to work for one of the oldest hotels in the world, and convey that in their engagement with their visitors.
My room was intelligently laid out, given the constraints of the building. I visited during a heatwave, and the room had a portable air-conditioning unit, which was effective.
There is a really good organic Thai restaurant in the same building. But it is popular, so you will need to book in high season.
One thing to watch out for is that the free broadband has quite low bandwidth, so for serious work you will probably need to use your phone's data connection.
This hotel is in the center of a city, so don't expect it to be quiet. I didn't find the noise from bars and restaurants intrusive, even when I had the windows open for the heat. Definitely don't aim for a lie in though. The hotel is close to St Sebald's, and no one can sleep through the bells at 07:00!

This historic hotel has two areas, the older \"historic\" part and the newly renovated area. I stayed in the older historic part, which meant the rates were cheaper but the room was very dated. The lighting was rather dim, the television was small, the bathroom had rust on the fixtures and holes in the walls and didn't have a fan so it steamed up quite a fair bit, and the hair dryer often shorted out after a few seconds of turning it on. The hot water was rather inconsistent, and sometimes gets very hot with no warning, so be careful about that. The room had a view of concrete walls, and still managed to be noisy. Noise from the kitchen and people in the halls and the pipes in the walls really made it difficult to rest peacefully at night. You can hear the footsteps of the people on the floors above you. The pillows were the worst part of all, felt like it was barely filled and very uncomfortable. Staff were really friendly and warm, and the hotel lobby offered free spiced wine, likely a seasonal December thing. We did not try their breakfast as it was easier to get cheaper food for breakfast elsewhere in the area. The location was excellent, within walking distance to all the best parts of Nuremberg. Everything worth seeing was less than 20 minutes walk away.

We loved the design and how the layout was incorporated into the old building. The staff were always very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and spacious. We were in the attic room and even though we are both quite tall we both felt very comfortable! Breakfast was tasty and fresh, and always set us up nicely for the day. Lovely hotel. Nice mix of modern, boutique type with a traditional building. Room was great, nicely decorated, timbered ceiling. Only criticism, and it is a really small one, is my same gripe with most European hotels, somewhere to get or make a coffee at night would be really appreciated. But that really is a small gripe, the place is great and very good value. I really enjoyed staying here and was very surprised when I saw the room.

I was first attracted to Hotel Elch for its history, but I got so much more than that. The building feels home-y and warm but elegant; though the building is old, the decor and facilities are modern; and the staff is ever so friendly and accommodating. I loved my stay here, and if I ever return to Nürnberg, I will stay here again.

When we arrived at 8pm, hotel staff advised us that the historic room we had booked had been given away and the only room they had left was a smaller room in the modern part of the hotel. We agreed feeling little other option that late in the evening. The room was so tiny it was set up with towels etc for one person not two! We expressed our disappointment on the night and they reiterated there was nothing they could do. We mentioned it again when checking out and a staff member actually scoffed at us. If you plan to stay here, arrive early to ensure they have your room available and be aware that the place they tell you to park costs €12 per night (not free).

The hotel was good it was clean, people were friendly, and the free breakfast was nice to have. The location was great. It was close to the downtown and many restaurants and an easy walk from the train station. The only negatives were, no elevator, it was tough carrying our heavy suitcases up 3 floors. The shower stall was very small, it was a challenge to was lower body. The double bed was really two twins next to each other which offered other challenges.

Hotel Elch is a cute hotel in the old part of Nuremberg. Very close to the castle and other sites as well as restaurants and bars. Reasonable breakfast and the rooms are well equipped and of a good size. Really enjoyed our stay!

I actually wouldn't know anything about the Hotel Elch's rooms, since I didn't get to stay there due to a reservation error. I'm not sure who made the error, but Hotel Elch staff was downright superb in dealing with the issue. They had no room for me, so they found several other hotels at which I could stay close by. They even paid the difference between the their rate and the other hotel's. Though I didn't receive it until later, they DID send me an email to let me know the problem before I got there. That's more than I can say for hotels.com, which hasn't even acknowledged the issue as far as I can tell. Any ratings I provided for the rooms is based on what I can tell from the rest of the hotel, which was pretty much just the lobby and dining area. It was clean, updated, visually appealing, and welcoming. Add that to the exceptional staff, and I'd bet the rooms were equally awesome.

Great historic hotel. Given its history the rooms are small - and you have to accept that for history or go to the Hilton. The desk clerk when we checked in and out was fantastic and helpful. Very enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel in a lovely city.

This hotel has a very modern and luxurious interior within an ancient looking building making it rather quaint! The Staff, facilities and décor are excellent and a good range of fresh food is offered at the breakfast buffet. However, there are no lifts. There are two step-changes on the floor and one at the bottom end of the main stairs but none are not marked out thus making tripping a high possibility hazard, unless extreme care is taken at these hazard points. The hotel location is excellent for visits to the Christmas Market.

Decent hotel, well located for historic district, but old section had no elevator and our room was in the rafters. Staff seemed not overly friendly and free parking was not available although German guests had places: we were sent to public parking three blocks away with a discount hotel rate. Breakfast was adequate. At Christmas approach by Halletor gate as old Nuremburg is cut in half by street closings and traffic is very complicated and weekends are crazy crowded.

Wonderful Hotel in Great Location
Hotel Elch was a great hotel for my 3-night stay. Was located about a 15 minute walk from Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof. Was also very close to the main city centre - about 5 minutes. Lots of shops and restaurants near with a lot of variety. The hotel itself was really old and cute. I booked a single room and ended up with two twin beds pushed together, so the room was definitely big enough for one person. Staff were great - spoke really good English and were super friendly. Breakfast was also good. Lots of variety (meats, cheese, breads, cereal, yogurt, juices/tea/coffee) so there is something for everyone. I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Nuremberg and would also recommend this hotel if you want a nice, comfortable, traditional German hotel that's close to the city centre for a really good price!

Its a charming hotel although I am glad we only had small suitcases as there is no lift and we were on the third floor. The location was excellent as we visted so we could go to the famous Christmas Market which was very near by. The whole of the old town is very walkable and compact.

Lovely old hotel in the Altstadt. Fantastic location. Close to all the main sights, everthing is within easy walking distance, even the walk up the hill to the castle is not too hard going. Hotel is nice and clean and the hot buffet breakfast is excellent, also plenty of cold meats and cheeses. Staff were also very pleasant and helpful. Would stay here again if we returned. Nuremberg itself is absolutely wonderful, the castle and all the old town are beautiful, a photographers dream.

The Hotel Elch is located in the old town area of Nurnberg. It is about 10min walk from the U-bahn, so a taxi from the station if you have a lot of luggage is a good idea. The rooms are comfortable. Watch out for the Elk heads on the stairs (not real ones!)
