Smoke alarm and outlet were half hanging off the walls. Shower was VERY dated and had hair in it.
Bottom sheets was extremely wrinkled, like it was rolled into a ball and EXTREMELY rough and scratchy.
Fridge was barely cool- not cold enough to keep things cold.

This is an older hotel that has been updated. The bathroom impressed me because most hotel updates try to over-modify the bathroom; this update was sensible. The room and bathroom were very clean; no signs of mold/mildew, no stains. LOTS of storage space for clothing between the big set of drawers and the closet. There was a mini fridge and microwave. There is a 24 hour, self-serve \"market\" in the lobby where you can get snacks, beverages, etc. The front desk staff I encountered, with one exception, seemed to enjoy their jobs and interacting with staff (the exception appeared bored and uninterested in their work). I did eat in the Lord Essex Tavern and Grill on my first night there. I got to the restaurant at 8 and asked if I could still be served (they closed at 9). It was no problem. My server was efficient but not personable. The photo of the restaurant on the Kahler website makes it look better than the rather dark and dated space that it is. My burger arrived quickly and was very tasty. I was appreciative that this hotel conveniently connects to the Mayo \"subway\".

Fast ride from the airport in Rochester. The staff is outstanding. Lord Essex restaurant has great food. The interior of the hotel is however dated, but hotel and rooms are clean. Closest place to Mayo Clinics, just walk downstairs or take elevator to LL.

This was a mix of good and bad. I frequently visit quarterly and this is the first time I stayed at this hotel.
Staff were friendly.
They had no free coffee available at any time which I found odd since not sure if I have found a hotel that didn't offer this.
I did park in the adjacent ramp for 2 days but then went out to movie one night and then returned and the lot was completely full so I had to park my car about 3 blocks away.
The room was okay but dated. At about 3am each morning I woke up to the smell of bacon and other days fried onions.
The bed itself was comfortable but pillows were very small and not.
I never received a receipt for my stay and had to call numerous numbers to get a receipt since the automated service when you pressed for assistance with previous stay it routed you to a new reservations system only. I had to call hotels.com to get the hotel phone number.
It is very close to where I work at Mayo Clinic but I will unlikely return.

Tv and WiFi didn’t work when we arrived. It was fixed promptly. Called an hour before room service was to end and they wouldn’t answer the phone. The front desk to me I had to go get it myself. Why have room service? Parking was whoafully inadequate.
Food from the restaurant there was very good though.

Building and rooms are old and it shows. Furniture and finishings are pretty best up, especially in the bathrooms. Bed was clean and comfortable. The rest of the room was cleaned just OK. Front desk staff and valet very friendly and helpful. The parking ramp was full so I had to park a few blocks away in the city ramp which was free but inconvenient. Security guard at the pool was going around telling people kids weren’t allowed to jump in the pool.

The hotel is great and cleanliness was better than most 5* hotels. The hotel location for the Mayo Clinic is perfect.
The only disappointment was the parking!
The parking ramp was full and we had to carry our luggage from where we parked to a block away from the hotel.

Understandable due to the major construction issues.

I recommend staying there for appointment convenience. I’ve stayed there often throughout the years and haven’t been disappointed.

The customer service @ this hotel was HORRIFIC! NEVER staying here again. I had an issue w/ the 3rd party I reserved through, resulting in 3 room reservations. I called the hotel immediately after realizing the glitch (NINE minutes after my cancelation deadline). They told me I had to reach out to the 3rd party as there was NOTHING they could. I called the 3rd part, who contacted the hotel, & was also told there was NOTHING they could do to cancel my extra reservations. As a last ditch effort to try & cancel something, I reached out to the hotel manager, who rudely told me someone from the 3rd party had already tried canceling for me & the notes under my reservation stated I had been informed there was nothing that could be done. Knowing there was a national dance competition in town, I asked AGAIN @ check in if they would be able to cancel @ least 1 of the reservations. As the desk clerk was telling me there was nothing she could do per the notes on my reservation, the clerk next to us turned away another potential customer looking for a room w/ 2 beds, which is what I was trying to cancel. So they wouldn’t have even been out money even, just a bit of time to cancel my reservation & book under the other guest. W/ SO many other great hotel choices in Rochester there is no need to stay somewhere that treats their guests so poorly. If proximity is an issue for you, there are several hotels that even offer free shuttle services for their guests. Check them out!

No breakfast, given a single occupancy despite queen size room for 2 reserved. Completely brushed off concerns, debit was charged full price on day 1 despite telling them i wanted to pay cash. 3 different staff told me three different things regarding my payment. Weve stayed here in years past but we will not be returning and i dont recommend it at this time as their customer service, lack of care and responsibility for their customers comfort and stay as well as concerns was extremely poor and rude

The staff was friendly/helpful, hotel was clean and close to the civic center where we needed to go. Parking was a little difficult, but once figured out worked OK. The provided shampoo fell off the wall the first day when i pushed to dispense. I reported when happened but it was not repaired while we were there. The TV cut out often, checked connection to TV and it was tight. Possibly the TV is provided by satellite and that was being blocked by tree limbs.

Had to buy breakfast, and parking was two blocks away. Shower is insane either freezing or scalding. Be careful putting your face in there. Don't let the pictures deceive you, the King room I had, was NOT the king room I was looking forward to. All in all, stay was ok. It was clean and a place to rest my bones.

Shower handles and pipes in bad shape, skipped morning shower at 5:30am because shower pipes rattled and made loud noises when I tried to turn shower on, didn't want to wake up all surrounding rooms this early in morning.

Room was small. Only a desk chair to sit on besides the bed. We only had 2 towels for a 3 night stay. They were worn. Toilet paper was cheap. Bed was not comfortable. Disappointed. Everything outside of the room was very nice.

Rooms have been clean and tidy at each of our 3 stays here. We are only here for Mayo appointments and have had no contact personally. They obviously know what they are doing. We needed just a bed and nice bathroom. and deserve 5 stars. Parking is VERY convenient as we are there with handicapped person so parking has been GREATG.

Drove an hour and a half to there and found out that despite the description saying there was onsite parking and valet - neither were available. My child and I had to find parking several blocks away and walk in the dark carrying all of our stuff to the room. There was some kind of dance event so there were a lot of noisy kids. The walls are very thin. I heard lots of noise in the halls, people going in and out of rooms. A few times I woke up thinking someone was trying to get into our room. I woke up to coughing in another room. The heating and air system doesn’t seem to be adjustable. The tub faucet dripped the whole time. The room was quite dated and overall the hotel needs updates. There is no counter space in the bathroom - to the point where the hotel Kleenex lives on the desk because there is no space for it in the bathroom. So getting ready is a challenge. Our room seamed to be above a kitchen or something because most of our stay, the room smelled strongly of bacon and cooking in general. I feel like the value was not there for what I paid. I would NOT have booked this hotel if I would have known there was not parking on site. This feels like false advertising.

It was close to Mayo Clinic which was the reason we were there. It’s an older hotel and its age is starting to show. We had a few problems with our room which were fixed the following day but no housekeeping. Maybe housekeeping is only every few days?
We did not eat in their restaurants so cannot comment on them.

The room was nothing like how it presented on expedia. The t.v barely worked and cut in and out, the shower was either ice cold or scolding hot, and the toliet leaked water. I was there for a procedure at the mayo clinic and just wanted to relax in my room but i couldn't even do that. This was one of the worst hotels ive ever stayed in.

They are building next door and the noise was horrible.

The staff was polite, attentive, and helpful. We used the valet parking, and they were helpful and fast (though at times they did have a lot more to handle for the number of people on staff). The room was spotless, the furniture (including the bed) was updated and comfortable, and it was also very quiet, day and night. There were several restaurant venues on-site; we only tried one, and it was excellent and reasonable. A very comfortable and short walk under the streets to our Mayo appointment made the stay complete. We'll be back!

As always, the staff is the best reason to stay at the Kahler. The convenience is an issue - it's right across the street from the Mayo Clinic with an easy underground connection. This visit I called the front desk and asked if there was a wheelchair available and the desk clerk said, \"Yes, I'll bring it up and leave it outside your door...\" Just really good service.

Very convenient parking ramp a few steps away from hotel. They gave us a room on same level we parked on which made things very easy for us. The hotel is a block away to Mayo Gonda building which was great!
I will continue to stay at the Kahler Grand Hotel!!

The staff was very friendly....the room was very clean and modern.....however, the HVAC needs to be updated. Even though it was only April, our room never cooled down to a decent temperature to sleep. Even though the thermostat was set to 62 degrees our room was very warm throughout the night. We did not sleep well. Maintenance came and removed the filthy filter but that didn't help. When I complained to the front desk he said \"well it is a 130 yr old hotel\". We only stayed one night.

We were able to have an early check-in. Our room was very clean and well kept unfortunately though we did have to move rooms just prior to bedtime due to the air conditioning not working. They were very accommodating. The hot tub was also broken upon arrival.

Great location, great service, with access to Mayo Clinic via underground access. Only issue is there always seems to be minor issues with the rooms. Broken bathroom door once , TV access failed once, no soap once, —-the Tavern downstairs had a person who spoke no English and could not make him understand. The Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is EXCELLENT. Quite walkable to the city as well.

Pool is super cool! Elevators were wonky, parking a hassle, and there was a bunch of loud construction going on. It’s near a bunch of restaurants and shops. The pool was the highlight, on the top floor, looking at big neon signs through the rooftop windows.

Kahler Grand is in a perfect location for appointments at the Mayo Clinic. We were able to walk there through subways and sky walks which was great for cold and rainy days. There's currently construction going on, so the entrance wasn't so obvious. Uber and cabs know where it is though.
We did encounter some homeless people several times coming into the lobby, which was a little unsettling while waiting for our cab at 3:30am. The elevators require a room key to go above the second floor, so that felt safer. We never had any problems other than one guy who snuck on the elevator with us. I really feel bad for these people but feeling safe is important.
Overall, I plan to stay there again. Our room was clean and comfortable, although we had trouble cooling the room enough at night. There are plenty of restaurants walking distance which made it convenient.
We'll be back.

We did order room service one evening when I was unable to go out in public due to an in room test being conducted by my doctor at Mayo Clinic. We also ate breskfast in the Lord Essix restaurant. Both the room service and the breakfast were excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive.
