Good staff. Clean room. Excellent bed, one of the best we've had in a hotel room. Shower is excellent if a little dark. Lighting in the room isn't very bright. Glad we had the room with balcony, that was a great spot in the warm evenings for drinks & supper. Handy that the room had a fridge, and breakfast service has a 4 hour window. Evening menu is restricted, especially at weekends, so if using regularly it will soon become boring. Service on Saturday in the restaurant wasn't great. Out of 4 mains, 1 was off and it wasn't busy, the server was very young and not very interested in the job.
Breakfast was always busy but the service was always top notch. Unfortunately, theres only so much cheese & ham you can take 😁 although plenty of options (yoghurts, cakes, danish pastries, cereals). Crispy bacon was a real boon though.
All in all we can recommend Bastion very much, just find a restaurant in town (plentiful). Would be happy to return.

The only problem was the stone driveway. It was a little difficult to wheel a suitcase or someone with a wheelchair to the front doors..

On arrival i had to wait till two staff members finished a personal conversation before they realised i was standing there. Not a good look.

Disappointed i was left one small bath towel and one day a stained hand towel. Was not offered any good will. Stayed here before but this visit has tarnished my view.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel at all costs. It’s old and dirty. The room had 4 single beds, choppy terrible pillows and dirty carpeting. There’s absolutely no sign of any luxury. It has the feeling of an army barracks. The 4 single beds are very strange. We were so horrified that we decided to leave. The woman at the front desk had nothing nice to say (on Christmas Eve!). I asked the front desk if this room is used to house asylum seekers and she didn’t deny it. It actually felt unsafe with the amount of men hanging in the lobby and the parking lot.

Didn't Meet its Potential

Pleasant place and comfy room, but very bad service and mediocre breakfast.

On arrival the hotel couldn't find my booking. I turns out they had cancelled it only hours earlier and made no attempt to inform me of a problem. None of the reception staff knew what to do, but eventually rebooked me in, but there were no longer double beds available.
Asking for a iron in the morning, I was told to fetch if from reception. \"Normally we bring it but it's extremely busy\" - there was nobody there and breakfast almost empty. I was then given a dirty iron which had to be changed. The process took half an hour!
Breakfast service was pretty poor - the waitress forgot I'd ordered an omelette. The coffee was nasty and no toaster for bread.
We did like the free pool table.

The hotel was a bit outdated, parking was good on premises. The hotel was understaffed so the quality was mediocre. At first check in, we were given a room that wasn't cleaned. Dirty sheets unmade bed, dirty towels and toilet. We reported within a minute back at the lobby and were given another room, smaller then ordered originally but it compensated with a balcony (winter not needed). This Bastion in Loo Apeldoorn was nothing in comparison to the Bastion Hotels. If I had to compare the chain of hotel to other neighboring towns in Gelderland, however it is well located. The young staff are friendly and professional but overworked between functions. Would consider for the money spend to stay at another hotel.

Hotel OK but cleanliness of the room lacking, side of cabinet looked like someone had thrown liquid at it you could see where it had run down and dried up. I spilt some shampoo on floor in shower room wiped up with tissue it was filthy glad I used slippers. Bed making poor pillow put in place duvet pulled up job done when you went to bed no difference to when you got up. Our last night Saturday 24th only 1 bed made?????

We could not arrive on the evening we were meant to check in. The receptionist was unsure if they could hold the room despite paying for 3nights! It was referred to the manager and we was able to. Nice area and good sized car park. V comfortable bed. However room did not feel cosy, it was v basic. Double room but One towel, no tea, coffee, milk just a kettle. Phone in room did not work. Had to go from 6th floor to reception to ask for an extra towel and hot drink supplies. Was a pricey stay for something quite basic in reality

Perfect location as we wanted to visit Place The Loo.
Overall a good hotel!

1 minus: Although bathroom is beautiful, it is poorly equipped with racks and places to hang/place your stuff. Also soaps, shampoo and towels were on crisis distribution, apparently: hardly there.
Elevators are very small.
Big groups of people smoking at entrance ruin the fresh air.
Nonetheless hotel is fine!

Very good price, roomy rooms, nice location

I booked the cheapest room there was, but it still felt like a ball room somehow. It was all no frills, but still didn't feel cheap. The price was very affordable. The surroundings are also incredible (Royal Palace on the other side of the road, and close most of the tourist attractions). The (two single) beds were nice and wide, and comfortable. The hotel was easy to find, and the parking space right in front of the hotel was perfect.One weird thing tho was that the cold water tap gave off kinda luke warm water.

Nice hotel but not very clean or corona friendly

My stay was okay. The bed was comfy but the room seemed only half finished as it was very empty for such a big room. A few towels were missing. And a tissue box.
The biggest no-go was a dirty pool area and big lump of hair floating in the pool. And this in corona times and very restricted access (only 2 people at the time for 30min) which they haven’t told us when we called 3 days before arrival (before we booked). The Staff didn’t handle corona distances very well. After breakfast lots of things were kept dirty (tables in the terrace and in the lounge) even until the evening. Sadly I wasn’t very happy with the stay.

Nice hotel with massive room

Stayed here for just one night in July. Had plenty of free parking, suitable for a larger vehicle with no height restrictions. Located a short walk from the centre, so ideal location. We had a massive room with a massive bathroom, good decent room.

De kamer was zowat geheel leeg, erg koud qua inrichting. je krijgt dan op de laatste avond een bon voor een gratis drankje, maar als je die wilt gebruiken is de bar dicht. personeel is traag, niet erg hulpzaam. Als je belt met de receptie duurt het lang voordat ze opnemen, terwijl er 3 dames staan die niets te doen hebben. De kamer is donker, er zijn te weinig lichten en de lichten die er zijn zijn niet sfeervol. Er is geen enkele kamer met een bad.

Near Perfect!!

We absolutely loved our stay here!
We only chose to stay in Apeldoorn as we were visiting three different areas of Holland and Apeldoorn was in the middle of all of our destinations.
As we were approaching Apeldoorn, we were taken in by now pretty the area was. The hotel itself looked even better than it does in the photos.
Our rooms were lovely, we were lucky in that one of the rooms we were given was on the corner of the ground floor, giving us more windows along the outside walls and a larger surface space along the wall compared to the room next door.
The only small problem we had was with the car park because it is a gravel car park. We all had cases so it make it hard to wheel them over because of the gravel but it didn’t spoil it for us.
We ate at the restaurant in the hotel one evening and the food was excellent and really good portion - would highly recommend the mixed grill!
Every member of staff we spoke to were nice and friendly. We couldn’t fault the service we received.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again, and would love to explore more of a Apeldoorn.

Not glamorous but relatively cheap

This hotel used to be quite glamorous located in a lovely part of town and in a stately building. However, don’t expect anything fancy today. It’s practical and clean, and our Family Room was very large with plenty of space for many suitcases. Parking is free and adjacent to the hotel. The staff was responsive and efficient. If you book the Family Room (we had suite 248) expect the parents to sleep on a pull out sofa. The 2 twin beds in the room I assumed were for the kids. We were disappointed by these sleeping arrangements. In the bathroom you’ll find everything you need but nothing is special. The towels are small and very hard (we even had one with crosses drawn on with permanent marker, I assumed it was to be discarded and had been put out in our room by mistake). The toiletries are reminiscent of a YMCA and consist of only a small soap bar and a tube of shower gel. It would be helpful if the hotel gave an explanation of the heating system as we didn’t realize how it worked and froze the first night.

A bit eccentric!

The gym and pool were being refurbished, a fact that was not dicloded when I booked. Two days before chalking in I received a message to this effect and when I complained the response was that I could cancel at no cost - unsatisfactory under the circumstances. The wifi in my room did not work and they only moved me into another room after repeated complains for two days. Once I returned to my room and found the door wide open with all my stuff In it. When I reported this they apologised and iffferrd me a free drink. The breakfast was good but too expensive for what it was. Had to ask about the laundry servire and collect it from the reception, which was not explained. The area is nice, close to the palace and park, good for walking and running. Overall inconsistent with some good and some bad elements.

Tired and felt more like a hostel than a hotel

This is a rather tired hotel. It's really big for where it is and it's clear it's had a lot of additions which has caused it to be rather oddly chopped up. The reception staff were very friendly, that's the major plus. The room I was in was very tired and felt old, almost more like a hostel than a hotel. It was a no-smoking room yet there was a cigarette burn on the bath. Clearly someone took a bath while smoking and burnt it. I will try and publish a photo of that.

Breakfast was pretty horrible. Very limited selection of food and one young girl making eggs, which she clearly didn't know how to do very well. In all breakfast consisted of an 'egg station' for omelets etc, some dry bacon, clingfilm wrapped selection of meats, a few yogurts and a few different breads. There was a coffee machine and some juice. That was about it. Not much to choose from and not very appealing.

All in all, for a \"hotel\" there has to be a lot better options out there. I won't be going back.

Good location near the Het Loo. Convenient access to restaurant area (by car). Our room was on the front of the hotel over the stone driveway which was loud at night with cars coming and going. Breakfast served until 0900 (we didn't realize & showed up at 0915) but waitress nice enough to let us get our food before taking away the buffet. The hotel rooms are a little \"tired\" but okay for a one night stay.

Nice hotel outside city center

We came to Apeldoorn to visit Apenhuel and De Hoge Veluwe. The hotel is a bit outside the city center but just a 10 minute bike ride to Apenhuel and had a great restaurant. The hotel had excellent bikes for rent and the bus stopped right outside making it convenient to get back downtown. The staff members were all very nice. The restaurant was excellent.

A great find!

Stumbled on this very reasonably-priced hotel, situated within a short walk of the wonderful Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn, and along a very nice street of villas. It was a 10-min walk into town, but just a few doors down is a fantastic restaurant, De Bon Vivant, serving all sorts of venison. I stayed in one of the ground floor, newly-refurbished, rooms and it was large and contemporary with a walk in shower and enough space to cartwheel across the room!! (I didn't try this myself!) I did not try the breakfast, but saw people enjoying coffee on the comfortable sofas at the window. Charming staff. A great find!

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The receptionist was fantastic and was very efficient when checking us in. The room was of a decent size and the beds were comfortable.

It was only a 10-15 minute walk to a local bakery and restaurants. We ended up eating at a pub called Het Stadscafe which was amazing.

Good choice for buffet breakfast. But hard work getting it.
Need customer trays for self service, otherwise need 2, 3 or 4 visits to counter. It was painfully frustrating to watch the tables being cleared as the staff also did not have any trays. Each table took 3 visits. 2 to clear the stuff and another person to wipe down.

Wonderful Hotel for a low price.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a middle weekend on a two week business trip. I initially picked it because of the low cost and great reviews. I was not disappointed. this has been one of the best value for money places I have stayed in the last few years. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food and bar service were excellent. If the hotel services arent enough for your needs they are a 20 minute walk away from the town centre. One small issue could be the gravel car park. I witnessed many a guest struggling to wheel their heavy cases across the car park. But that is the only thing I can see wrong. I would definitely look to stay here again should I be in the area.

A good weekend

Our weekend at Bastion was pleasing. The room was spacious and clean, however, the lighting was poor which made reading and writing very difficult. Plentiful parking made life easy and we were able to walk to Hett Loo to see the splendid Palace and gardens.

Very good hotel for the price. Room was clean, beds comfortable, bathroom very nice, however the rooms were on the cold side even with air con off and the heating on high.
Could hear the hotel music in our room at a low volume as there was a speaker situated outside our room, wasn't a major problem but could hear it once you went to bed.
Does have a restaurant with a minimal choice on the menu and quite expensive, breakfast was expensive too but had a good selection of food, continental breakfast with excellent croissants, fruits, yoghurts, hot breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles) and omelettes of your choice available.
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Within 10/15min walk to the city centre, easily accessible by bus from the train station with the bus stopping right outside the hotel.
Would stay again at this hotel, the only thing that would make me question it is the temperature of the room in winter, it needs to be a lot warmer.

The hotel is perfectly located near Palace, forest and public transport. The restaurant has a good quality, the personnel is ok, the rooms are fine but the beds are awful. WiFi was excellent and secured

We returned to this hotel after a previous very comfortable stay, and found our initial experience confirmed. The hotel is within easy reach of the motorway but reasonably secluded in a pleasant area, and reasonably priced. The staff are polite and extremely helpful, the room comfortable and quiet and the food most enjoyable. We enjoyed a pre-breakfast swim in the hotel's lovely pool before a long day travelling. We hope to visit it again.

Nice Hotel

I have stayed here several times and every time the stay has been satisfactory. Nice rooms and staff, good parking conditions and the location is good (10-15 minutes walk to the city center).

Good quality Hotel in great location

In a very smart part of town within walking distance of the town centre and the Royal Palace Het Loo. Also a very good upmarket resturant 200 yards away on Loolan road. On bus route which connects to railway station. Hotel was very comfortable and the bar staff very friendly. We were a group of 8 in Apeldoorn to watch Netherlands play Kent at cricket in nearby Deventer. On the last morning we were given a Champagne breakfast on the house - probably due to the amount we spent in the bar the previous 3 days!!. I would recomend this Hotel to anyone who needs to stay in the local area.

very expensive!!!!

The hotel was adequate , the room fairly clean although the linens were not replaced or the beds made throughout our stay. ...it looked like an 12 year old had cleaned the room, most of our stay. The cleaner threw out some of our souvenirs that we had left on the desk. Very surprised when we found we had an extra 300.00 bill that was for taxes that we were unaware of, that we had to pay for before we left.(This made this hotel more expensive than the five star one we stayed in Amstedam!!!) Close to bus stop, expensive to rent a bicycle from the hotel. Would not stay here again.!!!!!

Value for Money. Good location.

Good location. Close to the airport. Decent restaurant. Good value for money. Close to NH Hotel for another restaurant option and just across the parking lot from McDonalds, if you would eat there. Airport shuttle is free, but only runs from 0600-2400 hrs, so if you have an early flight or are arriving late, you will have to take a taxi. Ensure to book a spot on the shuttle or order the taxi the night before. Don't assume a taxi will be available at 0400-0600 hrs.

This hotel is the best in the area but should REALLY do something about their food, I take every opportunity not to eat there as the foods terrible
