Every room has Sea view - this view is way better than some of the expensive hotels on Marine Drive.

Reasonably priced hotel with sea view worth waking up to. Clean and decent sized rooms with functional bathroom.
Friendly staff who go the extra mile to offer great service.
Lots of food options within walking distance.
Very convenient location.

Courteous Hospiltality.

Staff is extremely courteous and very helpful. This is my 2nd stay with Ocean, in a room with the ocean-view. Room & the bathroom are well kept; very clean. You can have dinner even late at night in the ground floor restaurant. Service staff & the chef are very friendly with a very cheerful smiles. Service staff always make sure you are not hungry. I never experienced this much hospitality anywhere in the world.

Our stay here was lovely, and the views were great. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time, helping us organise rides and tickets to events. The rooftop bar was closed for refurbishment while we were there so we didn't get to see it, but everything else was wonderful.

Staff are best asset but hotel is misrepresented. The location and amenities at this hotel are not as they are represented in the photos and the write up. It is on busy Marine Drive and the noise of traffic and the trains are heard through the hotel. There are views of the ocean but over a busy road and railway track. There is a coffee bar advertised but no such place exists. The Mint restaurant is small and the food average. The staff are lovely and keen to do every little thing to help which is why I give it a smiley face.

Good Hotel wiht value for money

This is nice hotel. With very good price options. I would say some of staff were really good. But there are some just not willing to help at all. I asked where is the nearest Coffee Cafe is and the hotel staff replied \"can have coffee in the hotel\" I said no wheer is the nearest cafe and the he said \" Google it\"

Apartment some odd staff this hotel will do just fine.

My second stay. Stayed for 2 weeks. Good value. Clean, comfortable, excellent service from all staff (too many to name) from the lovely doorman to front desk staff, catering, housekeeping. Good location. Easy to get three-wheelers or taxi. Many eating places close by. Lovely view of the sea. Good aircon and shower. Only a couple of issues for me personally. Limited choice on the menu for vegetarians. However many places close by and the hotel allows deliveries to the room. No CNN channel, but has BBC world service. Fully recommend it.

Beach view hotel

We recently stayed here for the very first time ( March 2018) for 4 nights. Very centrally located with room facing Indian Ocean, Room was cell kept with comfortable beds and nice clean bathroom. The break first buffet was excellent
T with choices of both western and Srilankan cuisine. The roof top bar was a nice addition as well especially during night time for a well lighted night view of the city.

I personally thank for Dulsie with the Mint Restaurant who was very friendly and
curtiois. Nishanthi with House keeping was excellent. There was a young maintenance
Guy who helped us with an an urgent luggage issue just prior to our departure.

I will recommend this place very much.

Well located hotel by the Indian Ocean with large sea view rooms well equipped. Staff very friendly and helpful. nice rooftop restaurant with great Buffett breakfast, western and Sri Lankan food. We had a very pleasing stay for 4 nights and will stay again if visited Sri Lanka again. Recomended with no hesitation for travellers intend to stay in Colombo.

Great view and more or less spacious rooms (at least, on Colombo scale). No iron and ironing board in the room, the wardrobe is tiny - keep that in mind if you go for business. Service is slightly sloppy: one day my room wasn't made up, another day it was made up but I wasn't given the whole set of clean towels instead of the used ones, etc. There's a railroad track right in front of the hotel, but the rooms are well noise-isolated so you can barely hear the trains. Overall, I'd say it's a fair value for money ratio.

Faulty equipment spoiling a good hotel

Our last visit to The Ocean in Colombo resulted in the worst night we have ever spent in any hotel. The AC in our room worked for 10 minutes quite well and then turned itself off resulting in a room like a sauna. The only thing to do was to turn the AC back on every ten minutes obviously impossible to get any sleep. We had reported this problem to the Management who tried to help but were only able to offer us another room on the same floor which was even hotter than ours with what seemed to be a very inefficient AC. We were moved to another room the next night which was o.k.

We do not blame the Hotel Staff as they did everything they could but were obviously working with pre set equipment probably set up by the owner to save AC costs. At no time did the Hotel offer any form of reduction or compensation for our terrible night so we still had to pay full price which to say the least surprised me this was not very professional as our complaint was very serious.

We have recommended The Ocean to all our friends in the past but now feel that it is likely we will not be using this Hotel in the future we await a reply from the Management.

Wonderful Views and an all around great hotel

Cant recommend this place enough. As a smaller hotel you get a much more personalized experience. The views from the rooms are amazing. Rooms are well kept and have everything you would expect from a good hotel. Great value for the price!

The sea was my window view, just love it!

The staff are soo helpful, this is relaxing. they smile, listen and try their best to make you happy. I got three rooms at the same floor next to each other, another good point. the rooms were just comfortable. there was a (QIBLA) sticker in the drawer, which was a great help, thanks for that. Mentioned to the reception that my sheets smelt like cigarette and they changed them immediately, perfect! the breakfast was a mixture of continental and local, suggested different kind of cheese and they manager was more than happy to try it.the area has parlors, restaurants and other good hotels, which is an addition to the hotel itself.

Worst hotel experience ever

The first day after checking in at the hotel I went out then came back to the hotel by taxi. So the problem started when the taxi driver wanted more money after he relized where I am from, but I didn't give him any money, so he followed me to the hotel and tried to hit me inside the hotel. After that I asked the hotel to call the police and give the police the camera recorded about everything happened. In contrary, the started yelling at me because they said I am the reason that brought the taxi driver to the hotel. Also they said that they will not cooperate with anything. Moreover, the manager of the hotel started saying this is not your country and he also said go back to your country to your dead king. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone.

Like vacationing at a construction site

While the hotel is decent enough, there was a avoidable incident that impacted our stay. As we were due to arrive at the hotel at 3am, I had taken the trouble and expense to make sure I booked another day to cover this. Putting our heads down at 4am, at 8am we were in for a shock. We were awoken by a deafening noise. It transpired to be construction work taking place 2 floors above us and was SO loud, we could hardly hear ourselves talk to each other. This was without any warning whatsoever. We called down asking for this to stop, but 20mins later it still continued so we had to call again. This time someone came to our room. I asked if we could be moved to another room, she said there would be a like for like one available but not until later. I then asked if other ones would be available. She said this would not be possible. Eventually I had to go down to see the manager. He was suitably apologetic but again no real alternative was offered to address the immediate need. He eventually agreed to throw in free breakfast as compensation which I had to ask for. However what was this hotel thinking letting guests book in to a construction site! Had I known I definitely not have stayed here. This construction work also looked like major work, which also meant there was no swimming pool! Again a facility I paid for but could not avail ourselves of and no compensation offered.

Underwhelming hotel, though with some promise

This hotel is almost brand new. It's well constructed, with nice, modern finishes. The shower was among the best I've had in SL. The breakfast buffet was well cooked and had decent service. The staff is generally friendly, though check in and check out take longer than they should.

That said, the overall experience was mediocre at best. The hotel sells itself on its views, but the waterfront along Marine Drive at this location is underwhelming. A busy road, railways track, and powerlines separate the hotel from the water, and there are no redeeming features. The room I had was clean with a good modern washroom. The towels and bedding are generally fine. The WiFI is so slow to be unusable in the evenings. My room had a musty smell, as if molds were growing in the air conditioner. The AC would work for 15 minutes and then turn itself off, requiring a manual restart to get it to start cooling again. Most seriously, my stay was noisy. Beyond the regular commuter trains going past, there was ongoing construction in the hotel, with drilling or jackhammering going on for 30 minutes plus at a go, extending from early morning to the early evening. That was interminable.

This isn't a bad hotel. Colombo hotels in this price range can be much worse. This place would be great for a night or two without the construction noise, an improved AC system, and better WiFi. But, you can find better (sometimes much better) hotels for comparable prices if you look around.

Nice location, good place to stay..

Stayed here for five nights. Hotel doesn't have any good restaurant but they have room dining service. Location is good. Rooms are sea facing that makes your morning and evening pleasant but air conditioners are not strong enough to keep room cool in late afternoon when sun directly strikes your window glass. Its too hot to stay there.

For the extra bed it was said no blankets are available and only a bed sheet was available for two days of our stay. The Website pictures are really amazing and reality is to tally contrary. With the same money better options are available which we found after our arrival.

Room had a clogged sink and random hair in the bathroom when I arrived. Hotel staff did fix the problem in an hour. Place is good if you want simple accommodations in Colombo. Most places are a quick taxi ride away. There is limited sidewalks and street lights on the main road by the hotel.

it was a pleasant stay. friendly staff and clean rooms. Unfortunately air conditioning was not the best. It was very hot and I was not pleased. Although Air conditioning worked it was not adequate for the room. my girlfriend and I ordered food through room service and once we were done we called to have our plates cleared, all though we were assured someone would come and collect the plates, no one returned and we were forced to sleep with plates with remaining food till we checked out the following morning.

A happy and comfortable stay

The view from the hotel is fabulous. As a family, we found the room standard excellent and the restaurant served a good range of foods for both adults and kids. Some noise from the railway but worth putting up with it to get the views.
