So much shopping nearby and lots of good food. Gail’s Bakery, Cafe Nero, Salad Project, Waterstones, British Museum and more. The breakfast and coffee at the hotel was excellent. Lots of choices and really good coffee. A bonus for me. The staff was super friendly, accommodating, and filled with smiles. I had a large twin room, which was all I needed, and it was well appointed from room furnishings to the bathroom. The water pressure was perfect for showering. AC was just fine. The whole environment was quiet, delightful, and comfortable. I will definitely return when next in London.

Only issue. Was leaky ac they moved us to bigger room. So they did the right thing. Also no lift so you. You have to ask for help with bags. On up side they have no issue helping.

it was good.... but i wouldnt have said 5 star. It was 50 stairs to our room. we are old codgers! Luckily, pretty fit old codgers as this may have been an issue otherwise. Had 3 drinks - charge 3 x service charges of £3! for handing a glass of wine over a bar! i had this taken off, but it is a mickey take. Husband NEVER checks bills. I do. Room was tiny and no mirror in room. just a tiny one on desk would have been great. Bathroom is tiny, so not enough room for me to do makeup and for my husband to be in there too. No plug sockets near mirror- doing hair was a bit haphazard.
but..... the staff were lovely, the breakfast was great, the area perfect. I would stay again, but my expectations hould have been managed better!

I was not privilege to why this is a luxury small hotel, the room was as I would expect for this part of London.
I had a very nice greeting, given my key and directed to my room.
Breakfast was very standard, buffet style.

Great location and the reception areas are well decorated and look lovely. We only arrived late so didn't see the other rooms such as the library or bar.
It was a good price and value for money.
Room on the small side and shower small and on 4th floor. no issue for us, but could be a problem for access issues.
Beautifully decorated and nice touches of complimentary water and soft drinks in the room. Helpful staff.

I was blown away by the kind, caring, and supportive staff at the Academy. Their food was delicious, the bed so comfortable, and my stay was fantastic! It was the perfect location as it was close to all the major sites within walking distance and it was calm, quiet, and tranquil. I would highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were so helpful and accommodating. We were supposed to stay for 2 nights but ended up extending our stay for another 2 nights! The rooms were lovely and warm during the cold weather, cleaned every day and mini bar restocked. The continental breakfast was amazing and with endless cups of coffee. Very close to Covent Garden and West End, perfect location and felt safe walking about at night as lovely area. Would definitely stay here again!

Checkin: yes it’s at 3pm but 5* Hotel have normally your room earlier ready - not here
I asked for a room to change, but not available and needed to change in a tiny toilet. Remember this supposed to be 5*. Carry your luggage yourself is included
Breakfast: I wanted eggs for my prepaid breakfast and was asked a extra £15… every 3* hotel in UK offers for a paid breakfast eggs… and the worst I tried to sleep but couldn’t it’s so terribly noise. The room is next to a major motorway. Literally 1 meter away… this room should be forbidden to rent out to any customers. I feel so sick haven’t been able to sleep till now. I will talk this morning if I survive tonight to change this room since I made a terrible mistake to book this hotel for another 4 nights ..: I would rather forfeit all this money than stay in this place another night! This is no 5* with all due respect. Any decent 3* or 4* for half the price is much better. I will see if there is any Manager tomorrow to stop this insanity

It was a fabulous stay by every metric. The room was delightful and the bed and linens so perfect for sleep after a long day out walking and the breakfast was delicious with many options. One of the best features of the hotel were its numerous public spaces including a garden - and one could sit and read while having a coffee or tea or cocktail. Truly a gem of a place - looking forward to returning soon.

The Academy hotel is very cozy and it is beautifully decorated. The rooms are comfortable, and the breakfast is absolutely wonderful.
It is located in a very nice neighborhood with pretty much walking distance to main attractions London has to offer. There is also plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from.
The staff is wonderful! They are very responsive and making sure you have a wonderful stay.

My second time to stay in the hotel, I really like the vibe and the location is Great. Si Easy to get to from TCR tube station. 10min Walk. The rooms are compact and you have to climb a few sets of stairs to get there about 4 or 5 flights to my room. Last Time I was on ground floor, but no big deal at the same time. Full sized bathroom with shower 🚿 nice bar and courtyard area outdoor for summer drinks. Got complimentary drinks as I didn't get one last time because there was a slight delay with my room last time.
Complimentary soft drinks mini bar and Continental breakfast in the morning which is nice.
Coffee ☕ or tea ☕ and usual cereal 🥣 and pastries 🥐 etc. really Nice.

Feels like being a guest in a beautifully maintained city home. Staff is friendly & helpful. A pleasant outdoor courtyard is great for a drink or your dinner. There are many stairs, and no lift but staff will bring your luggage up & down for you. I would return to this comfortable personal hotel again and again.

Nice, but try to get a room away from street

AC unit started leaking water. Staff quickly fixed the issue and offered another room. Two days later it leaked again. Moved to a new room with more space, but no bathroom sink space and right below the street. In the new room cars, motorcycles and people were noisy throughout the night. Not the hotels fault, just try to get a room not located next to the street.
Great location Walking distance from shopping, stores and broadway shows.

We have stayed in many hotels and found The Academy to be just like a small, family run hotel. It was excellent. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful, particularly Felix and the ladies in the breakfast room. The bar and garden are beautiful and the room was spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay again.

What a great place to stay. From my early arrival on Saturday morning (to drop my bag) until my departure two days later, I loved my time at The Academy.
Much as this hotel has many excellent features;
*a convenient location for the west end,
*great nearby transport links,
*a beautifully decorated room,
*breakfast included with the room, *free drinks in the fridge,
*pod coffee maker
*comfortable public rooms
*a garden space to chill,

the best quality of this hotel is its staff. Every member of the team I met in reception, housekeeping and in the dining room was so helpful and looked genuinely happy to be there. Smiles were immediate and warm.
I very much hope to stay here again.

I've stayed in the this hotel more than 20 times so I'm well qualified to speak about it. It's on a lovely street close to the British museum and West End theaters, which works perfectly for me. The beds are terrible and in spite of renovations of the property have not been changed since the 90s when I first stayed there. That and a kind of mediocre breakfast are the downsides. My small room is always clean.

Lovely hotel, only 50 rooms and Continental breakfast was included which was Great, attentive staff and a good selection of food, all the staff were friendly and because my room wasn't quite ready at 15.00hrs I sat in the garden out back with a complimentary drink, it's these nice touches that people remember. My room was compact and the bathroom was on the small size but for a solo traveller it was perfect, the location is great 10min max walk from Tottenham Court road tube and a nice walk to Soho and surrounding areas, the area where the hotel is located is very nice and quiet.
I just might make this place my go to London hotel, nice vibe to the place. Well done staff ,It's a YES from me...

Great boutique hotel in Bloomsbury

This is a lovely small hotel, staff are helpful and friendly and it’s just a short walk to Tottenham Court Road and Covent Garden.
The only negative we had was when we booked it the room description said there was a bath and this is something we always look for. We specifically chose this hotel for that reason however when we accessed our room there was only a shower so we were very disappointed- not sure if this is the hotel’s mistake or hotels.com. I suspect the hotel has given the incorrect information to hotels.com but either way it should be updated. We would not have chosen this hotel otherwise - we usually stay in Covent Garden but thought we’d try somewhere different for a change. Not many hotels in London have bathtubs so when we find one we will book it but we’ll definitely be more hesitant next time.

Two types of store bought salami

The hotel is beautiful and located in a great area. The breakfast was plentiful and High quality, nice complimentary drinks in the room and staff were really lovely. However my single room in the basement was a disappointment- small issues like no plug for the hairdryer (or extension lead) anywhere near a mirror, really noisy air con unit in a very hot room, and poor lighting (nothing bright enough to work in), meant I sadly had a very poor nights’ sleep and didn’t enjoy the stay experience as much as I’d anticipated.

Moved me into a single room (which felt like a closet) because of overbooking. Did give me a credit and also moved my 2 friends into an attic room.
Closed the bar early the first night we were there which was a bit disappointing as my friends had arrived late from different parts of the world.
Breakfast was delicious, the service was very good and the staff friendly. Lounge areas very comfortable and location was great.

Reception staff were really helpful and when we were given a room on the 3rd floor were happy to move us as the stairs were very steep and narrow. There isnt a lift. Breakfast was very nice and service excellent. Bar service wasnt very good and a very very small space. It was nice but i wouldnt stay again and for the price we were very disappointed.

The hotel is attractive and well-maintained. The staff is excellent: helpful, friendly, and very professional. High marks to the house-keeping staff, the front desk, and the breakfast servers. I deliberately chose the hotel so that I could walk back and forth to the British Museum. Other significant museums were easily available by public transportation, Uber, or cab. Some shopping is available on Tottingham Road, near-by. More extensive shopping and vibrant nightlife are found in other parts of town.

This hotel is in a great location in Bloomsbury, but tucked away on a quiet street. The public areas are relaxed and comfortable and the outside space is fantastic. Hotel is definitely not a 5 star hotel. Lobby, sitting area and garden are pretty, but hotel has absolutely ZERO vibes. Bar and garden area never had an attendant during our stay. Complimentary breakfast was missable. Minibar you’re told is free, but also was never replenished. No lift. Towel warmer didn’t function. Room was comfortable and clean. Would have been okay if it were 200per night. Best part of the hotel is the adorable street next to it called Store Street. And breakfast at Honey & Co daily.

Great little hotel.

Very comfortable stay. Very good breakfast. Good location and within walking distance to many sites. Encountered a problem with the plumbing in my room and was immediately offered another room which was an upgrade. Outstanding.

Lift would be nice

Lovely comfortable, well appointed hotel, I know it is an old building, but a lift would be a real benefit if you are travelling with luggage
also as an old building, it is easy to forget where your room is
great rooms and great breakfast!
