No room service such as not changing towels or giving new toilet roll when not in the room. Aswell as the shower curtain being extremely dirty. Overall, it’s okay for a cheap place to stay for a couple of days.

My initial room was unclean. There were hairs and bits of crumbs(?) on the duvet. Also, the heating didn’t work in this room. The room I was reallocated to was cleaner but the heating still wasn’t great. Staff were relatively helpful in changing my room and giving me a portable heater.

Yes the prices were cheap but you get a bed to rest your head ,TV and kettle ! The bed mattress and pillows were quite firm BUT I had a brilliant night's sleep!!
My only 2 complaints are that the bathroom sink didn't have a correct size plug and you couldn't turn radiator on to heat the room up as it was rather cold.

This IS NOT a 3 star hotel. I’m sorry, but this should not be offered to paying customers. This is used for housing people off the streets and in know way should be charged at anything over £50 a night let alone the £130 for each room we paid. We checked out the minute we went to outlet room.

So originally had different hotel book and paid for with expidea but the over booked hotel with several guests and altough they were very helpful in organising different accommodation we ended up in a very low grade hotel even though we had paid for better accommodation, we paid €123 for one night for original accommodation what we got as a replacement i think would have only be worth €50 and even at ,€50 i wouldn't booked this hotel , i would be very cautious booking with expidia again

I reluctantly write this, as I'm not a fan of writing bad reviews, but I wouldn't want others having a similar experience.
Other than location and the staff this hotel doesn't have much else going for it and I'd strongly advise to avoid like the plague. The stench of illicit substances greeted us as soon as we pulled up outside in the car, this continued through to the lobby, lift and room. The hotel seemed to be being used as some sort of meeting place for the local junkies and alcoholics with a steady stream of these \"guests\" moving through the hotel corridors, which made myself and my wife feel really unsafe! The bed had I actually slept on it wouldve been like sleeping on a park bench, although the upside of the park bench being safer. The final nail in the coffin was the room was riddled with damp.
All in all I spent about an hour in this room, we checked out and booked another room in the Holiday Inn up the road. Best decision I made!

On check-in there was a very rude woman trying to attract the attention of the receptionist to complain about so called 'bed bug' which probably didn't exsist because she said they were in the room not on the bed. The receptionist was calm and continued to deal with us, actions that the rude woman accused of being ignored. We had no such experience. The bed was clean with fresh bedding, the floor, not carpetted but laminated was not crawling with anything. The facilities were perfect for our purposes though the shower curtain could have done with a wash the rest of the room was lovely. Spacious, comfortable a welcome place to rest our weary heads. The staff were friendly helpful and caring. We'd stay again. Thank you.

It is very basic but does what it says on the tin. The heating was on & there was plenty of hot water in the showers. There is a pool table in the hotel & a bar next door to the hotel. It is right in the centre of the city & only two minutes walk from the railway station. It ticks most boxes for me.

Decor was tired in the room and bathroom, but it was clean. The tea cups were chipped - but I had my own.

Exceptionally good location for travellers close to the Bus & Rail station. Initial flight of steps from entrance to reception which can be an issue for guests with mobility issues but lift from thereon. Rooms seem to have undergone refurbishment since a previous visit, pleased with my room.

Good price for a large well spaced out room with excellent access to Hull City Centre.
Some may find the mattress a bit hard, and the toilet is a bit cramped, but generally well kept.

No hot water at any time. The pounding beat of the adjacent nightclub didn’t stop until 2am. The towel ring fell off the wall at first contact. The soap dispenser in the bath was empty and fell off the wall at first contact. The laminate flooring was the cheapest imaginable and moved/creaked with every footstep on it. The cabinet/desk appeared to have a drawer completely missing. No on-site parking. No breakfast. All in all it was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in since I was backpacking in third world countries.

SUPER weird smell in room, kind of like damp/musty/like something died in there a while back, so we had to have the windows open all weekend which isn’t ideal in sub zero temperatures. Some questionable electrical safety and insulation.
Overall decent enough if you’re on a budget and won’t be spending much time in the room.

Wish someone had told me it was a hotel where the local prostitutes go. People coming and going at all hours, the noise from the road and coldness and dampness of the room kept me awake all night. I was an alone and I felt unsafe so I popped a chair up against the door as the lock didn’t work properly. The staff were friendly and the sheets clean enough but it wasn’t enough to change my overall experience.

We have stayed at the Gilson many times before and have always been happy with the service…….I paid for my stay online which I had done numerous times before but when I got to the hotel was told unless I had credit card details I could not stay at the hotel. It was pure luck that my partner had his credit card but it was in the car which he had to go and get which added another half an hour on our check in time. If this is procedure then this should be made clear in the welcome email that was sent. Was not happy with the service at all

I booked this hotel as it was close to the venue of a show we were seeing. The pictures on Hotels.com made the hotel look amazing, it was not. The hotel advertised food served daily both on the Hotels.com site and outside their premises, there was no food, only breakfast. They also advertised an upstairs “sports bar” but we were told it hasn’t been open for months. We had to ask for a fan for our room and also a teaspoon to make tea. The shower temp was horrific and although the room was clean enough it wasn’t great. The walls of the bathroom were covered in scum. Also no extractor fan. The lift was disgustingly dirty and the whole place was grimy. No parking so had to pay to park in the train station. Also one of the noisiest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The bed was 2 single mattres pushed together to make a double bed and not comfortable at all. Hense didnt sleep well and ached all over the following morning. We were only staying for a couple of days to do some shopping and see family. The hotel was comfortable and the staff were friendly and courteous.
The room was clean and contained everything it required. The TV was a little small for the size of the room. We did not have breakfast on site so cannot comment on it.
All in all though a great place to stay for a city break.

We was so excited to get to the hotel and relax with our little one but we got in the room it was absolutely freezing and smelt like a dirty old man’s pub it was vile I refused to stay especially with my 2 year old we visited the deep it was overall the worst experience ever!
