Exceptional service from friendly and generous hosts. Stayed 2 nights, good location for exploring Cornwall. Room was snug as described, spotlessly clean and comfortable. John and Amy are great hosts. Small things like having fresh milk available to guests for tea or coffee and having access to the breakfast room for dinner made the stay more enjoyable. Breakfast options were varied and delicious. Overall I can't say enough about how great the hosts are. Would recommend to friends and family without hesitation.

We stayed in the sea-view room on the top floor and it exceeded our expectations. Great view, clean, modern and comfortable, and impressed with the fridge, choice of teas, iron and fan. The WiFi was fast and reserved parking was easy.
The breakfast was very delicious and we received top service. We also ordered the breakfast ‘to go’ bag on the second day which was efficient and thoughtfully put together. We had a sausage sandwich with fruit, yogurt and a juice.
It was close and a short walk to the town centre.

I cannot say enough nice things about gecko's rest the couple John and Amy that run it were so lovely and friendly and helpful the place wasn't just clean it was immaculate all everything was upgraded brand new we just had the best time I would recommend it to anyone I speak to. The little town was a 5 minute walk with plenty of dining options and shopping and

Very friendly and helpful owners. They were in touch pre-arrival and were there to welcome us on the day. The room was modern, clean and comfortable with a view over Newquay to the sea. A comfortable bed, good shower, good Wi-Fi and an excellent cooked breakfast.

Amy and John were really friendly and hospitable hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Good facilities including an honesty fridge, an excellent view from our room, a tasty breakfast and a brilliant location just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. Covid procedures all followed too. Would happily recommend to others.
The only slight negatives were low water pressure in our room (however it turns out this is a temporary fault which was only reported to them by the previous couple and they hadn't had a chance to have it fixed before we arrived) and a lack of air conditioning in the room (but lovely big windows and I'm sure they would have provided a fan if we'd asked for one).

This is a great holiday stay, the owners could not do enough for us, very friendly and accommodating. Lovely clean hotel, every thing has been thought of down to the smallest of detail, such as where to hang the towel when you are in the shower, adjustable heights in the shower with shelving for your bottles of shampoo etc. Definitely on top of my list to revisit.

A nice place and reasonably priced but I feel the customer service was very poor and unprofessional.
After arriving in the afternoon following a 5 hour drive we were lectured because;
1- they “don’t allow kids” which was a complete lie because on all websites advertising this establishment it says ‘families welcome’ and
2- because there were 7 of us and they “don’t do group bookings”. We’d all booked separately so wasn’t aware of this and he was very upset and quite rude because “it’s a nightmare when we’re full and everyone checks out the same day”(!!!!) wow. Have you ever heard such nonsense? The owner of an independent B&B complaining of a busy summer with all those bookings!! 😏 I suggest you hire a maid, Sir.
He also had a meltdown over the thought of having to cook a load of breakfasts at the same time, even though they only offer guests a 1 hour window to opt for free breakfast and there’s no more than 20 seats in their dining room.
The icing on the cake for me was on the first night around 9pm he was rude towards my Sister when she asked him for some warm milk for her 3 year old daughter. I’m amazed that the reviews are so great as I don’t believe for one second that this was a one off.
So, if you want to be greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome go somewhere else, there’s plenty of 4 star places to choose from.
We certainly won’t be returning to this establishment.

Had the pleasure of staying at Gecko's Rest over the 1st May Bank Holiday.
We arrived at the hotel earlier than we expected to but this was not a problem for our hosts who showed us to our room and we were very impressed from the get go.
The room was spotless with a fantastic sea view that was amazing to wake up to each morning after a fantastic sleep in a very comfortable bed.
Breakfast did not disappoint and was extremely good, setting us up for the day.
The hotel is set about a 5 minute walk away from the town and local beach and is easily accessible by road with plenty of parking.
John and Amy are wonderful hosts with plenty of local knowledge about restaurants and travel etc.
We would not hesitate to recommend a visit to Gecko's Rest and would hope to be able to revisit again soon.

We had a lovely stay here while we hiked the south west coast path. The hosts were wo helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was great - a good start. For my daughter, who is vegetarian, the menu was particularly to her liking. A plus, as we were so tired at the end of the day, we didn't want to face a restaurant at the end of the day, we were offered the use of the dining room to enjoy our take away. Thanks for the great stay.

John and Amy who own Geckos Rest are very kind, personable, and all around good people. My room faced the beach as well as the harbor. The location of the bread and breakfast was 10 to 15 minutes walking distance of restaurants and shopping. An early Breakfast was offered daily. I enjoyed my stay.
I was, however, disappointed when first arriving. I was under the impression Geckos Rest was on the beach. I was also surprised how \"close\" the buildings and homes were to each other. I was given the idea that the area was more of a \"quaint\" village setting but it was more of a crowded \"touristy\" seaside resort.
The rooms were clean but small. The shower was extremely narrow and movement was limited.

I was given the idea that the area was more of a \"quaint\" village setting but it was more of a crowded \"touristy\" seaside resort.

Stayed for 2 nights whilst travelling for 7 days around Cornwall. Perhaps the best hotel out of the other 3,the room was immaculate, the hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was spot on! Newquay is such a vibrant town and since the hotel is located within only 5 mins walking from the town centre we had time to thoroughly enjoy it without having to allocate time for getting back or driving. Highly recommended, no wonder they have such a high score on Expedia & Trip Advisor!
