The lady who seemingly did all the front of house jobs aside chef was so so lovely. Car park useful and included (always nice in Newquay, I stay occasionally for work and it annoys having to put another tenner every time), room was clean and tidy with comfy bed, sound of birds in the morning from quiet location still close to walk to beach, bowling alley strange addition but I’m sure fun if you had kids, I got dinner which was OK nothing world changing but a solid pub fish and chips and a friendly atmosphere with a pint, breakfast had options and a lovely fruit salad alongside fried bits. Really great stay at this hotel. Very spacious mesmerising room. Lovely staffs and wonderful service. The night sleep was peacefull. In morning, I had delicious full english breakfast. I would recommend stay here to others. Also they have extra parking area, if there are no space in front of the entrance.

I arrived at thia property on the Saturday evening at 5pm. There was a note at reception saying latw arrivals were to call a number. I wouldn't call 5pm a late arrival seeing as checkin was only from 3pm. I called the number a few times but the reception was bad. I finally spoke to someone who asked if i had a booking for bowling or the lodge. When I confirmed it was the lodge, a sour faced man appeared from the bar area. This mans demeanour had me feeling that I had interrupted him from whatever he was doing. I felt very uncomfortable and was made feel not at all welcome. I went to my room to work but couldn't connect my laptop as there was no wifi code so I had to go back downstairs to get the code which was stuck up on a piece of paper on the bar. Breakfast the following morning was lovely and the lady serving was very helpful. Unfortunately though at this stage the damage had been done so I checked oit and booked in elsewhere even though I had booked and paid for another 3 nights. I would suggest that this property put someone more welcoming on reception. I would never return

Lovely stay after a very poor start!

My stay would have been excellent if the check in was good. Unfortunately when I arrived there was no one to check me in. I did venture into the ten pin bowling bar area to ask for help and the guy was very rude and extremely unhelpful. He was more interested in his phone than helping me. He has to remember he works in a customer service industry. Luckily, everyone else I came into contact with were very welcoming.

Solid place to stay. Easy walk to the ocean, a little bit more to walk to town. Also, has a: restaurant, bar, & bowling. Stayed in room #15 & then #19. 3 nights in late-March 2025.

Negatives:
Wi-Fi issues: kept having to reconnect as the signal was weak. Also, speed was not adequate. Room #19 did not have USB power (#15 did). Both rooms had weird mis-matched lighting, some were cool white bright, others warm white & way too dim (like that scene in the film Amerlie). Towels were too big. Too much furniture & extra pillows just takes up space. Bed in #19 had excessive soft spot on one side of bed at chest area, other side was fine.

Positives:
Check-in was easy. Lot's of free parking just across the way. Both rooms were very clean & quiet. Water was hot. Extras like biscuits in addition to the standard coffee/Tea & kettle was a nice touch. Silverware/ceramics were clean & spotless. Room #15 had USB power. The included English Breakfast was top notch, restaurant area was clean and service was great. Adjustable hand held shower head is always better than a fixed head.

A friendly stop

We stayed for one night as we had an early flight, we were out before breakfast so they provided a snack in a bag for us without being asked. The room was fine and did what we needed. We ate in the bar and the food was very nice and a good portion. We would use this place again.

Carol and Dave took excellent care of us. Dave is a great cook so food was excellent- breakfast - anything you wanted plus pastries, fresh fruit salad etc every morning. Often took evening meals there too - super. Great fun bowling and playing pool and just a few minutes walk to a wonderful beach with cafes and Loos. Brilliant value for money.

Property is located close to the beach, a 5 minute walk. My family was booked in for four nights, we stayed one night and left due to the conditions. The property smelled damp and was noisy as it is also the home to a skittle alley. Our room had a large patch of mold under the main window, plug sockets were loose on the wall, one bed side lamp didn’t work. The main lamp shade was broken with beads hanging loose. There were four in ceiling lights in the bathroom, two didn’t work, one worked intermittently, leaving only one light working. The floor standing bathroom caddy was covered in rust and the heated towel rail had dust on each rung. We were unable to open windows as the smoking area appeared to be directly under our room window.

More of a Porth hotel than a Newquay hotel

A bit of an odd fish, this place. I booked it because I had been in Falmouth and had an early flight from Newquay. The hotel was a long walk from Newquay - maybe I should have researched this a bit more and is really not suitable for visitors without transport. The check in was very functional ' go upstairs and turn back on yourself' and I wasn't asked if I wanted to book in for dinner. The dining room looked empty, so maybe that wasn't an option.It seems to be a place where locals come to play ten pin and then sit chatting in the bar which has got rooms attached. However, the room was very clean and perfectly adequate for the cost , I can't fault the accommodation. I would recommend it to people with a car.

This was a last minute booking as i need some where to stay for 1 night at the Royal Cornwall show @ £95.00 B&B they were not ripping people off like other hotels in the area. Very pleasant double room with a good shower. Had a great evening meal & the locals were interesting to listen to. Breakfast was very good. I will be staying there again, very friendly people.

We were allocated a lovely apartment instead of the room we were expecting. The apartment was spacious and newly refurbished, an ideal space as we had a dog with us. Only 5 mins walk to Porth beach so well located. The hotel car park was full when we returned in the evening, but we were able to park further up the road in a residential area.

Comfortable accommodation, clean and tidy. Personally had difficulty with access. Steep external stairs and landing was a little difficult for me, but I’m not as fit as I used to be!! Breakfast was good and enjoyable and the hosts/staff very helpful. Whilst the hotel is not 5* it does tick most of the boxes. I would recommend the Porth Lodge for a good base to tour Cornwall. Thank you Carol and Dave for a good holiday.

From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave you are well looked after by the friendly family run lodge. This is a little hidden gem offering a great stay with amazing food. Perfectly situated on the out skirts of Newquay allowing you to walk in and out when ever you wanted with in 10 minutes. Lovely beach at the bottom of the road so don’t need to go far before hitting the sand and sea. Will be back xx

Very lovely and friendly owners who were very accommodating. No request was too much bother and we felt like we were friends after only a day! Although we didn't use it there was, remarkably, a Ten Pin bowling alley in the hotel. Down a country lane. In Cornwall. By the beach !! Great to keep everyone amused if it is pouring with rain. Highly recommended hotel. And the pretty walk down to the beautiful, small Porth Beach is delightful.

A Little Gem 💎

We had a lovely stay at Porth lodge. Lovely welcome from the owner on arrival, who also allowed us to check in early. We loved the location, it was perfect & in walking distance of porth beach. On site free parking was a bonus, there are two parking areas, space for about 4 cars at the front & a large car park to the rear. We liked the front seating area in the front garden, was a cosy place to sit & have a drink in the evening with the solar lights. The apartment was a nice surprise, we certainly got a lot more than we were expecting, great value for money.Beds and linen extremely comfortable & of good quality.The kitchenette & bathroom looked new. Large smart tv was nice for the evenings & the sofa was comfy. The room had extra touches like the use of an iron and a hoover & a cot for a young one if required. There were a few cobwebs around the window when we arrived but actually we thought it added to the charm of the place & we were not bothered about that at all. The metal staircase & balcony that leads to the apartment rooms was a bit noisey when people walked on it but again didn't affect our stay. In general the location was lovely & quiet & we woke every morning to the tranquil sounds of nothing other than birds singing. Breakfast is included but we didn't have breakfast on site on this occasion as generally we aren't big eaters in the morning. On check out the lady owner was lovely & chatty. We would recommend porth lodge to anyone & will definitely come again.

Very nice hotel tucked away above the beach in Porth, easy walk down hill to beach but a steep walk back up, was staying for work so didn't visit beach during day time. The owners were very nice and as I was leaving before breakfast every day the did me a packed lunch, on the last day as I was leaving for home I got to try breakfast there were many choices and all cooked very well, there is also a bar in the hotel and with guest ales owner knows his beer as the 3 I tried were all good.

Never felt welcome here

Very disappointing from the start- we were met with a miserable faced lady- Carol on arrival, who always made us feel we were a burden. There is a great big \"rated 8.8/10 from hotels.com guests\" sign at the desk- but we would not rate this more than 3.3! Not even one smile throughout our 3 days there- despite, there being several problems with the rooms we had: 1 apt & 1 twin. In the apt- the shower outflow was blocked which we reported- never got fixed; in the twin- no functioning shower- we were told it had been fixed 2 weeks earlier-clearly not- then had to stay in this room, but go across the hall to shower in another room. Equally bad, was the fact that there was no evening hot water to shower with- only to be met with \"we dont normally have people showering in the evening\"- I presume no surfers, beach goers ever stayed there then.
The only saving grace was that the quality of the food was good.

Would recommend, very nice place to stay

Unbeatable location, so close to the beach, we left our car at the lodge and walked 5 mins to the beach... our room was very nice, comfy bed, breakfast was included and really nice with a large amount of food, the full English was epic! Had a cute bar which we had a cheeky pre drink before a nice walk to a restaurant on the strip. Fully enjoyed our stay!

Would book a room there again, was off the beaten track a bit so was nice as not touristy.
The bar down stairs was a bit loud but wasn’t open late and it didn’t make any difference to us and we were told about this when we arrived anyway. Overall nice comfortable stay.

We had the displeasure of staying in Room 15....

It is poorly ventilated, smells a tad funny, was not clean and the decor is ageing. The beds are shot to bits, pillows lumpy and duvets old and again lumpy.

The shower was so poor we were unable to properly wash ourselves for 48 hours, we resorted to removing the shower head to effectively have a low pressure hose wash like some third word refugees!

When we raised the issue of the appalling shower we were told \"it is a gravity fed so that as good as it gets\"

On the plus side the location is excellent only a few minutes walk from the beach.

Management really should invest ASAP as Porth Lodge has the potential to be excellent due to its location.

Lovely little place with character

Was so happy with our last minute booking to this hotel. We weren't expecting it to be quite so good. The owners were lovely people making sure you were comfortable. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. Could smell antibacterial spray in there. The only downer was the bedsheets could have been cleaner. They seemed to have marks on them. But if we had made a fuss I do believe we would have had them changed. But we arrived late in the evening and were only there a couple of days. At one point the shower was cold in the morning but I think this is because everyone in the hotel was having a shower at the same time. Because in the evening it was lovely and warm. I would still recommend this place and if we were back in Porth we would certainly stay here. The breakfast was delicious! The location to the beach was brilliant, like our own personal beach. Only about 4minutes walk down the hill.

Really good hidden location however was really close to the beach and not too far from the centre. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and there was a huge amount of character to the lodge. The breakfast was a massive perk, home cooked and tasted amazing... And to top it off the bowling alley, perfect for a chilled evening in. Would definitely return !

Not a good impression!

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. And we travelled with our 2.5 years ald son. The first impresion was terrible, we got there and a guy was showing us the room. He gave us the key so we can enter the room. When we first got in we could sense an odd smell, then when we entered the hallway the floor was sticky. In the kitchen/livingroom it felt that it was not cleaned at all before our arriving. The mugs had signs of coffee on them, the fridge had a bad smell, the carpet on the floor was very dirty and with loada of stains. The bed on the living room was broken. There was nothing to wipe the floor with in the bathrooms after showering. This are justa few things as I don't want to write more. The breakfast was good though, I think that was the only thing we enjoyed. And the location waa quite good as very close to beach. Overall not a good impression and we would never stay here again.
