We stayed for one night and had a mixed experience. Unfortunately, the heating in the room wasn’t working when we arrived, but when we reported it to reception they were helpful and quickly provided a portable heater, which warmed the bedroom well enough.

There was a noticeable amount of mould present in the bathroom, which isn’t something you expect at this price point. The layout of the bath/shower also means there is a window and windowsill within, so water splashes directly onto the sill and blinds when showering. Combined with the mould and the flaking paint around the window, it made the bathroom feel quite run down and in need of maintenance.

On the positive side, the bed, pillows and duvet were extremely comfortable and we slept very well. The curtains also did a great job of blocking out the light.

Overall, the stay was comfortable enough for one night, but given the price and the expectations that come with a Hotel du Vin, the room felt a little tired and not quite worth the cost. It has the feel of a luxury hotel, but one that could benefit from some maintenance and updating. Toby on reception was very friendly and helpful.

Staff are very helpful and always polite!

There is a lovely lady at breakfast - so friendly and I’m always usually in a row so she makes sure the order isn’t held up!

We so enjoyed our stay at the elegant Hotel du Vin. It surpassed our expectations. The staff at reception were welcoming and friendly, in fact all the staff we spoke to were very helpful. We had a beautiful room with a high ceiling and tall windows, looking onto the garden. It was spotlessly clean. We were happy we had booked parking as it was so nice to arrive at the hotel and find a space at the front of the hotel with our name on it! I loved swimming in the outdoor heated pool - such a treat in January! A lovely stay, thank you, and we plan to return.

Very attentive staff and bottle of bubbles help put things right, however, the dust is still there🤔😳 Overall lo ed the laid back style the roaring fire, the breakfast options, the comfortable bed, the free overnight parking in the adjoining street (top tip). Lovely hotel but 2 things which weren’t perfect was that the air con was pretty ineffective so we ended it opening windows which was then very noisy! Also there was no hot water when my husband showered! We did alert the hotel about this & they assured us they would get maintenance to check it. However, this is the 3rd time staying at their hotel & the atmosphere is lovely & being an old hospital, the building is superb with lots of historical features. Staff are also very good.

The room was clean and had everything we needed. I appreciated the small things eg the cold water in the fridge and the lovely toiletries. I wasn’t keen on the open plan bathroom though, I do prefer a door!
The pool was excellent. It would have been a haven of peace were it not for the two ladies who swam up and down talking really loudly to each other.

Downgraded on check-in (even though Platinum Hotels.com status) given free breakfast to make up for it. Poached eggs overcooked. Staff generally seemed confused at check in.

Sent an email asking if wanted car parking to which i said yes, but guess this was not sent from hotel as no reservation made. Overhead over people checking in who also thought they had requested car parking but not provided.

Having been pushed repeatedly before arrival to use the online registration, it was clear why. We had to wait 5 minutes at an otherwise empty reception whilst the receptionist at check-in figured out how to use the new system. Overall the hotel felt tired and below the standards that I’d normally expect from this brand. The room was dark and poorly designed. Disappointing experience overall. Positives were that dinner was enjoyable and the wine excellent.

The smallest, pokiest room we have ever experienced at any of the hotels within the HdV collection - despite it being a Deluxe category. No safe in the room. Very little space to place clothes. Impossible to open the bathroom door if someone was sitting at the desk/dressing table (crazy!).
We booked for lunch in the bistro, which was supposed to be a treat on our son's graduation day. The food was good but the restaurant was almost empty and therefore lacking atmosphere. Despite the lack of diners, service was very slow and we had to chase some items that we had ordered at the start.
Overall a very disappointing experience and bad value for money; not what we expect (and have experienced) at Hotel du Vin in previous years.

The staff were helpful, Aircon was broken and there were no people availabke to fix during our stay, there was musshed food in the stair carpet which was there when we arrived and was still there when we left ! we could see a lift or would have avoided the stairs as it had tools and poles and trolleys with broken glass and dirty dishes on . so Everytime we went back to our room it wasnt pleasant to walk passed . its a shame as the hotel was nicely decorated and clean apart from this BIG Dirty stair well which we had no choice but to use to get to our room ! Our room was ment to be a twin bed as me and my 17 year old were booked to share but there was no available so we had to share. it was unbelievabley hot and very little sleep was got . The man on reception did apologise for the aircon and gave a discount . I didnt have the heart to tell him about the mess as well . x

I recently stayed at the Hotel du Vin in Exeter and was drawn to the hotel’s charming blend of historic architecture and modern boutique style. The location is excellent—just a short walk from Exeter Cathedral and the quayside—making it very convenient for exploring the city.

The room itself was stylish and comfortable, with a unique character that sets it apart from more generic hotels. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the attention to design detail gave the space a luxury feel. The staff were polite and helpful throughout my stay.

However, I was disappointed by the lack of electric vehicle (EV) charging options on-site. As someone who travels with an EV, it was inconvenient to find no facilities available, especially given the increasing importance of sustainable travel and the hotel’s otherwise modern amenities. I had to search for charging points off-site, which was time-consuming and detracted from the experience. For a hotel of this calibre, I expected better provision for eco-conscious guests.

The Bistro du Vin offered a delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere, and I appreciated the outdoor pool and library spaces as lovely touches. But the EV issue left a sour note, and I would hesitate to return unless improvements are made in this area.

Room was very dusty 104 internal glass dividers had hand and greasy marks on it inside bathroom window cill dusty, room 103 has a faulty door closer so door slams and shakes our room being woken at all hours. Unable to contact the Spa before trip to book treatments, they also did not return voice messages and on arrival tried to book for my wife and without even checking just said no for the next 4 days

Short but sweet stay. Pool was out of order for renovation which was disappointing. Our room had no shower gel. Unable to book a parking space. Not enough water in the room so make sure you take your own because like me who drinks water through the night when thirsty it was a struggle. Great Stay with a Minor Parking Issue

We had a fantastic two-night stay at Hotel du Vin in Exeter. The breakfasts were excellent, and we enjoyed delicious drinks and nibbles at the bar while staying warm by the wood burner. The location is great—an easy walk into town—and the overall atmosphere was lovely.

However, there was one frustration with the hotel’s parking system. We had reserved a spot, which was great when we arrived as our name was displayed clearly. But when we returned in the evening, someone else had parked in our space. Unfortunately, the hotel was unable to assist and suggested we park in someone else's reserved spot. I would suggest the hotel implement a better system perhaps a parking pass system. Additionally, a polite notice could be placed on the windscreen of any car parked in a reserved spot, explaining that the parking is reserved. Despite this, we enjoyed our stay.

I’ve stayed at this hotel twice and whilst it’s a beautiful building and the staff are great, I’ve had issues both times. Last night the air conditioning was stuck at 25 degrees and they couldn’t change it. I was moved to a tiny room at 2am. They did give me a 50% discount on my stay which was generous. The hotel is generally noisy as it’s an old building, on the main road with a lot of doors that slam.

Parking is a pain and an xtra 20 pound which isnt great but it is what it is.
We were given a free upgrade on the second nite which was lovely as the first room although nice only had a smalll radiator to heat the room and it didnt do its job
Only down mark over our great stay is i got the booked date wrong and they wouldn't change the date over due to company policy so jad to pay for another nite again. They could have least made a small charge to chsnge the date. PS receptionist were all very nice and friendly

Staff were the best part of this short break. They couldnt be anymore helpful. The room itself was pretty small with the thinest wardrobe i have ever seen. Hotel was in excellent order and well located. Car park next door was handy as £20 a day to park at your hotel is steep. Also paying £25 for a dog each day needs to be taken into account.
