The reception wasn’t very welcoming & warm especially after a long journey ,not particularly,felt rushed and an inconvenience, we were made aware that as we booked through Expedia that we’d have to pay £50 security and that we were only in the basic double,I’m not sure what the purpose of this comment was,it however made us feel like a less valued customer.
the room was comfortable and dining staff friendly.

Couldn't get to the hotel due to a storm, and they had absolutely zero flexibility. Probably a 'fine' hotel if nothing goes wrong, but if it does then they don't want to hear it, and have no inclination to help. I'd avoid - better options elsewhere.

Room was a brilliant size and clean go 3 of us. Probably best shower I have had in a hotel. We all had a brilliant nights sleep.
We had dinner, bed and breakfast.
Dinner was really good but it just needs more atmosphere in the dining room.
Breakfast was really fresh but would say they need to do more continental bits (granola), fresh fruit etc,
Staff brilliant.
Spa was busy but again clean and had everything we needed.

The room was lovely, spacious and clean and with a great view. Lovely bathroom with great products to use, which I was excited to do so. However, when in the shower, I discovered the bottles were completely empty, I know they’re an added extra but still a bit irksome to discover them empty only when I’m under the shower. The staff were very polite and friendly, especially the lovely little lady on breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, it did take over an hour for our starter to arrive at dinner, which again, wasn’t the best, however we were in a lovely setting and it was exceptional food, worth the wait. Even with the little points raised, I would still definitely come back again

We also purchased tickets for the New Years evening silent disco and buffet. It started at 7.30pm we arrived at 8.15pm and there was only a few bits left on the buffet ( hardly anything!
I booked the hotel in November hoping to book the spa nearer I time of stay! We were very disapointed as this was not open!

Spa facilities excellent.
We booked the Swiss style chalet but it was tired and dated. There was no outside light, entrance light or stair light. We asked for it to be fixed but nobody from maintenance was available that night or following morning. Not ideal coming back at night with my 80yr old mother.
Restaurant wasn't busy but it took 20mins for anyone to address us after we were seated. We also had to pay for our food in advance otherwise the kitchen wouldn't accept our order.
Overall it is not a 4 star property.

The Dinner at Hotel was atrocious, the choice of drinks useless and overall very poor value at £31.99 for a very poor curry and a glass of wine !!
Breakfast was also substandard, the room was so cold by the time I’d returned to my table the food on my plate was stone cold. Will not be staying there again !

First visit and arrived quite late. Unfortunately due to the building works going on had a round trip walk through the rain and carpark to get to the swimming pool, found out after there was a shorter route but was sent the long way.
Told I pretty much had to book a dinner time for one that wasn’t very convenient and arrived at a virtually empty restaurant.
Hotel room lovely and a good quiet location. Would stay again after renovating works is finished.

The breakfast was barely warm on both days! The evening meal was expensive for what it actually was. The fish and chips were overcooked and just frozen battered fish, you know the type, the mushy sort of processed fish. The curry was really nice but little chicken and the burger looked impressive but was a standard burger, nothing special. The staff were very busy because there wasn’t enough of them and people kept having to go to the bar to get some attention and then told someone would come over. The room was extremely hot and luckily there was a fan! The bed was very comfortable, the room nice and clean. There wasn’t enough tea and coffee for the two of us and we had to ask at reception but they weren’t able to replenish the decaffeinated coffee as they’d run out. At breakfast I asked for butter but they’d run out of the little ones and was given margarine on a plate from the kitchen instead! Would we stay here again, no I’m afraid not.

The good parts:
The hotel is in beautiful grounds, the staff were also lovely! Easy commute from the M5. The Deluxe room was a decent size and the bed was comfy. The spa has a really lovely outlook, was never crowded and the facilities are fab. Big pool which was great for a decent swim, two hot tubs and sauna & steam rooms. Would absolutely come back to the spa.
The 11am checkout was very welcome so we could take our time in the morning :)

The bad parts:
We essentially paid £170 to not sleep most of the night. It’s an old building and the soundproofing is non existant and the walls may as well be made of paper. Therefore we’ve sadly come away exhausted so it was all kind of pointless!
The hotel needs a huge revamp to modernise it. Very old decor and looking so tired in places. It could be fantastic with work.
The restaurant was overpriced, had no atmosphere and just felt very flat.
Also a balcony over the car park is kind of laughable!

The only thing stopping the stay being a 5 star is that one of the 2 complimentary bottles of water was open and half drank.
I also paid the same price for the same type of room as my work colleague he he got a room triple the size of my with a bedroom and a separate living room with two tvs. I was only staying there for one night so I wouldn’t have made use of the extra space but if my stay was longer I would have had to mention it.

Overall great stay and got me into the Christmas spirit!

We had a window and it was sizeable. Did not stay for breakfast, but the coffee was good. Staff were very good and friendly. They made us feel at home. Room was very tidy and neat.

We stayed here a year ago and the hotel was tired and needed some upkeep. They have done this and the hotel was in very good shape compared to last year. Definitely improved.

The facilities are decent - steam room was nice, though too much Chlorine in the hot tub - burned your eyes. Dinner menu was good and the portions were very generous.

Only improvement is that there are ONLY 2 EV Chargers on site. If you are late, you might struggle. We were lucky to get the second one. Also when you are trying to pay for the chargers - you can't read the instructions at night (and it gets dark early)... But worked well.

Stayed 3 nights. Refused entry to resturant first night in a very rude and abrupt fashion. ‘It’s full’ there were 5 people eating!!! Out of principal. would never choose to eat the in Pulse resturant. Went to local pubs in Topsham and Woodbury. Treated respectfully, menu choice much better etc.
Room okay though heating / cooling didn't work. Room very hot 33C as agreed by room service staff. Reception staff and room staff great.

Parking was fine, but not well sign posted the actual hotel. So it took a bit of time trying to find the right building.
Which only says hotel in small letters. But everything else in big letters. The reception was not the most welcoming.there phone for the reception or room service didn’t work. Even when I rang directly using my mobile phone they didn’t bother answering. Only one chef on at their restaurant. Wasn’t even that busy. But still took a while. Plus they didn’t have everything instock for meals and breakfast as well, wasn’t a full breakfast because they hadn’t had their delivery. Room was clean but not well stocked. With hot drinks. And they didn’t have any menus for their restaurant or drinks menus. Which if you want people to eat at your place you would make the effort to do. I have stayed in cheap hotels and had much better experiences. But thought this is a birthday present for my wife who has been very unwell. And I would stay somewhere a bit more nicer sounding. But was left disappointed.

Very impressed with all of the staff. They were extremely friendly and helpful.
On the downside the rooms are very dated, carpets and need decorating, plus really tatty net curtains and falling off one window.
The main areas were okay, but bedroom was disappointing.

I found the restaurant logistics somewhat odd though having to reserve a table even though it was empty and then having the bill brought to my table with card machine and asked to pay before the food had even arrived. Food was good though.
The clubhouse food also good but menu there is quite limited.

Overall great value for money albeit the decor could do with a spruce up as looking a little tired in lots of places.

Lovely hotel in a peaceful and picturesque setting but only a short drive into Exeter.
Room had everything I needed and very comfortable. Pool and Spa area are amazing.
The only slight negative was the onsite restaurant, although food quality was very good the menu itself was quite limited and there wasn’t really anywhere else close by to eat in the evening.

Third time visiting and staying at the hotel and on this occasion, left feeling pretty underwhelmed.

Location and facilities remain a huge positive, but staff and general service was poor and not to the standard experienced at the hotel in the past.

Staff on reception were particularly unfriendly and un-attentive. An ongoing issue with key cards was annoying, as is the need to collect towels for swimming from the main hotel reception rather than the reception at the swimming pool/gym.

We stayed in one of the lodges which we’d stayed in previously. This time, we found it to be very tired and not in the best condition. Loads of cobwebs and dead spiders in the corners of rooms and around light fittings - although bathrooms and kitchen was very clean.

Room was lovely, nice big suite with excellent shower and big comfy bed.
Reception staff were not welcoming and were disinterested.
Hotel restaurant was out of service for the women's French rugby team, and will be for a month, so we ate dinner at the golf club. It was comparable to Wetherspoons food, but at golf club prices.
Similarly, no room service was available.
Breakfast buffet was not available - so usually-free picky bits like toast, cereal and juice we had to pay for at the golf club and wait 20 minutes for.

The pool, sauna, hot tub and steam room were lovely.

This was given as a gift.was not allowed to book a table in the main restaurant, despite several emails saying to book a table so I rang but was told we could not eat here -so we were obliged to eat in the other one. My wife had a Coconut Curry, the rice was barely warm and could not taste the coconut in it, “chef” came past the table so we told him about it but he was disinterested & walked away £16 wasted.i had a jacket potato & to be honest we would have been better served going to Wetherspoons.
We were not aware that the pool would be so crowded with children.
The room was reasonably clean but tired, the menus in the room were grubby & stained. The noise of the pipes plus the noisy room above us was unacceptable. Therefore we did not have a restful night. This was relayed to reception in the morning - “I will pass that on”was her reply.
Therefore I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This was fine for an overnight stay to visit the Sidmouth Folk Festival. Not our sort of place as it has no character as it’s a sports centre and health spa but if that’s your thing you’d love it.
Our room was perfect in every way except it overlooked the central atrium so there were no outside windows and you can’t open the window for fresh air.

We had a deluxe room for one night as we were just passing through. Reception staff were helpful although not very smiley or friendly.
The room was lovely. Clean with a large, very comfortable bed. The bathroom was dated but suitable with a very powerful shower. A mini fridge in the room would have been helpful
We had supper in The Clubhouse which was lovely and relaxing. More veggie options would have been nice.
I had a massage at the Spa and it was wonderful, as was Abbie who did my treatment. Would highly recommend.
Breakfast was plentiful although no vegetarian sausages immediately available and with a fifteen minute wait. Would have been nice to have some ready to serve. However the fruit, yogurt, pastries, toast etc were plentiful and delicious.
Overall this is a good place to stay with great facilities and spacious rooms. We would definitely stay here again.
