My room (no 3) had been totally renovated and was spotlessly clean. The evening meal at the hotel restaurant was also very satisfactory and good value for money. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be staying there again and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

The hotel is dated but the staff were friendly on arrival and during breakfast.
The room was clean, just dated. Bed a bit soft but difficult to please everyone.
Great location and a short walk to the beach.
Breakfast was adequate and the lady who served us was super helpful as we had a young child with us.

We have stayed here before and again got a family room for 3 nights. This one was better than the last one. We did not stay here for breakfast and went to Morrisons instead. There is limited parking at the hotel and overnight parking on the roads available. Ok if you’re off out for the day, they supply towels and a little bar of soap each. You need to supply shampoo etc. very friendly staff

Can do so, so much better with very little effort.

The male receptionist was lovely, very kind and friendly. The hotel was very, very disappointing. I have stayed in Youth Hostels that really put the Medehamstede to shame. I absolutely hat writing bad reviews because i always worry about the staff and their jobs. And as I have mentioned the receptionist / concierge was wonderful. Why on earth has the hotel not at least been painted on the outside? Why are there so many crappy fire doors - just paint them white and you will improve the appearance by 100%. There is absolutely no love shown by the owners in this hotel, and it is such a shame as it could be a real gem if it was just given a few days of cosmetic love.

For somewhere to lay your head and not worry about the state of the room its ideal, the pillows were great. Unfortunately thats the positives. Was greeted by a rude man when checking in as i asked about the parking as there was only a few spaces and was full, instead of apologising and stating its limited he was very rude to me about it which i wasnt expecting and was only asking. So after walking quite some distance with a 5 year old and all our bags after finding a space on the road which i had to move by 10am the next day we arrived to a very dirty room. I made the mistake of moving the bed up against a wall to barrier for my child and there was medication in tablet form and other random stuff under there aswell as about 5 years of dust. The skirtings have never been cleaned and the grout etc was disgusting. The bathroom and decor was extremely run down and only a soap bar for the sink provided no toiletries for a shower so im glad i took my own luckily. There was a tiny window which opened half way and in 30 degree heat in the day and 22 at night it was unbearable. Upon checking out as our room was via the resturant we had to negociate people eating and moving around with all our luggage in tow and via many stairs.

Check in was relaxed, cordial, and efficient. The Hotel is well located and close to town and beach. The amenities include entertainment in a spacious bar. Lounges with reading material. Good sized garden. Rooms are functional, with beds being firm, yet comfortable. The restaurant was superb with fast and efficient service catering with a menu that was in keeping with the clientele.

Pretty meh but you get what you pay for

This place is in desperate need of renovation.
However it’s adequate if you just need somewhere to crash for a night as I did.
I would have rated it a tad higher as given the price you can’t expect too much. However the walls are paper thin, which meant I was kept awake by drunken lads next door, so you’re at the mercy of your neighbours as to whether you get a decent nights sleep.

My room is on the ground floor with garden view and a little bit of sea from the window.
(+) No noise in the night, good breakfast and friendly staff, close to the seaside and shops/restaurants, great value for budget travelers
(-) No lift to upstairs, no wifi in the room, on-site car parking is limited but plenty spaces on the street - free after 6pm but have to move by 10am

Read horror stories about this hotel with outdated decor etc,yes the decor is a bit dated but the most important thing is the room was clean,the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was decent.
Remember if you want 5 star accommodation book a 5 star hotel.

Staff were very nice but the place hadn’t been touched since the 1960’s. There was rust around the taps. Nothing had been restocked, toilet paper or coffee/tea/milk. There was lots of sugar! The mattresses sunk to the divan when we sat on them.

It should have been cheaper.

The hotel is well located. I had booked a single room. The room was very small but adequate. The hotel has inadequate parking which on occasion meant parking elsewhere with time restrictions meaning you having to watch the time and regularly move your vehicle. The staff are polite.

The hotel is and older building and in parts looks a little tired and could do with a redecorating. The location is excellent close to the sea front and town centre. The staff were very friendly and the cooked breakfast was very nice. They will only service your room during your stay if you specifically ask them. The room was only suit and had tea/coffee in the room, the mattress was a little uncomfortable. Please note the hotel does not have a lift, this didn't bother me but if you are elderly or disabled you may want to request a ground floor room. The hotel had a well stocked bar that was not over priced and they had a live singer on the Thursday night, I would stay here again

Good location, near to town and beachfront

Enjoyable 3 night stay. Room was basic and needs updating as does the hotel, however some outside repairs were underway during our visit so maybe it's in the pipeline. Just remember it's a 2* hotel and not 5* and you'll be fine. Breakfast was good and couldn't fault the friendly staff throughout the hotel. Parking is first come first served so if it's busy you might struggle to park but there's bays around the hotel with free parking for 2 hours or between 6pm-8am if I remember correctly. Hotel seems to cater for a mix of coach parties of elderly residents and independent bookings of mixed ages. We didn't use the bar as we preferred to walk to the old town in the evening which takes about 10 mins stroll. All in all the stay was good and if you're looking for a not too many frills break this will tick your boxes. Best points: friendly staff and location. Worst points: needs some TLC.

A nice stay very close to Shanklin Beach, only a few minutes walk down to the promenade. The accommodation is a little dated and could really do with some TLC, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Breakfast is the standard full English so no nasty surprises there!

We got there early and asked if we could use their carpark before our check in time, they said yes and as the room was ready they let us have that early too. Which was lovely as we were able to drop the bags and freshen up. We were also able to book a breakfast on any morning we wanted it, a handy thing when you don't know your plans.

We only stayed for 1 night due to coming a night earlier before other hotel, due to ferry cancellations. We didnt have breakfast. Hotel needs alot of updating especially the rooms.

I would avoid this hotel. The parking is very limited. The room is very dirty, even the toilet seat had pee stains all over and the bath curtain was dirty . Overall a dusty room and bed was not so great either.

The hotel was seedy but that is in line with price . The main factor was the dining the food was brought out with little pleasantries it was as though they were automatics wound up and set on there programmes. Any ambiance was lost with bus parties arriving not my idea of a holiday. My other concern was with the cleaners trying to get access to the room before I had a chance to get ready to go out. On the + side the 2 of the receptionist were very helpful Food was a joke

Plenty of reviews have mentioned that this place is faded and past its best, but if you've ever stayed in an English seaside B&B you'll know what to expect. This was part of the attraction for us. They even had evening 'entertainment' - we didn't risk it! The staff were really friendly and helpful, which makes a difference and the rooms were certainly good value for the price. Its very close to the sea front and only minutes from the town centre, bus station, railway station (with the oldest trains anywhere in UK - 1938 underground, great!), theatre (which seems to have undergone a bit of a revival recently), old village, restaurants and pubs. We really liked it - we'll be back!

The hotel was shabby, tired, and somewhat rundown. I chose the hotel because it was cheap (much cheaper than the alternatives), as such it provided a bed for the night, an en-suite shower and wc , and a so-so breakfast. It was adequate for my needs, but I would have been disappointed if I was expecting the hotel to form a greater part of my holiday experience ( I was meeting up with relatives in a nearby flat each day).

Hotel is a bit dated in decor but this added to its charm. Breakfast was good and hotel staff were willing to go above and beyond to help you out. Bed was comfortable, only thing was room was very hot - no air con - and rooms themselves would benefit from being updated. Parking is also limited - first come first served basis. For value for money, you can't beat it.

Good budget hotel in Shanklin

Have stayed here before and would do so again. It's a basic hotel that caters mostly for coach parties, but which has the major selling point of being ridiculously cheap - possibly the cheapest place on the Isle of Wight. The service is fine and it is in a decent location in Shanklin, only a couple of hundred meters, possibly not even that, from the cliff edge.
