We stayed from 24th to 27th Aug 3 nights and didn’t realise when we booked we had stayed 10 yrs ago.Which Mark mentioned when we checked in as his Wife Kaz recognised the name. Had a lovely stay the weather was amazing, good breakfast and parking. The Seagulls were a bit annoying as they woke us at 5am but apart from that.We won’t leave it as long next time.

A lovely home from home on the island

We had a wonderful time here during our stay on the Isle of Wight - the BnB is ran by a lovely couple who catered a tasty fresh breakfast for us each morning. The beds are extrenely comfortable in peaceful rooms - would highly recommend for anyone looking to explore the island. Meeting their adorable rescue dog was a treat too!

The hosts are engaging, responsive and friendly, ensuring all guests are welcomed and comfortable. Breakfasts are well cooked and plentiful. The rooms and ensuites are generously proportioned, clean and well decorated.
The property is very well appointed for pubs, restaurants and only a short walk from the esplanade and beach. I highly commend this establishment.

The Richmond location is ideal for walking, buses and train station. The property is comfortable and has everything you require in the room. If i was being picky i would like to see less sugary items at breakfast and opt for plain greek yogurt, Weetabix, low sugar muesli as the options on offer are too sweet. Also less plastic flowers and plants which attract the dust but that is only my preference otherwise all good.

The Richmond was quiet and restful, which was what we were looking for. The room was large and airy, comfortably furnished with plenty of storage space. Breakfast was perfectly cooked with plenty of choice. The owners were friendly and helpful, keen that we enjoy our stay. We would be very happy to stay there again. We were sad that this lovely couple, working hard and doing a great job, have had to take abuse from unreasonable people who expect the service of a 5* hotel from B & B proprieters. Read the information before you book folks and leave vacancies at this lovely place for people who appreciate it.

A lovely bed and breakfast with very friendly hosts. Very clean and tidy with nice decor. The aduslts only policy is a bonus as it was very quiet.

The location is within walking distance of the beach, the bus and railway stations as well as the restuarants in the old town.

Wonderful stay through and through.

The Richmond is a wonderful b&b with faultless service through and through. The only slight niggles were the car parking which can be a little tricky to negotiate (but we did park on-site for our entire stay) and the size of the room, as we had the smaller double room. It was still big enough to accommodate both of us, but there was no storage space but we knew this in advance. Otherwise it was superb - Mark and Caz are wonderful, friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were lovely and it is in a great location for the centre of Shanklin, and only a few minutes walk from the old village. It is also by far the cleanest b&b we have ever stayed in. Faultless.

Upon our arrival we were greeted by Mark who checked me & my Husband in for a 3 night stay as it was the weekend of our wedding anniversary,we were shown upto our room & i must say what a pleasant suprise this was it was immaculate to say the least.Mark & Caz his lovely wife were very helpful& made our stay a very pleasant one nothing was too much trouble for this lovely couple,the breakfast were cooked to perfection & the rooms were cleaned daily cant fault this b&b we will be returning next year.

Shanklin: The Richmond Hotel Bed & Breakfast lovely well presented home
Home & life, Is exactly what it is in a family setting
In a family setting you have great comfort, food appears to come to you in a very clean and well catered for manner, service some what, wanting an opinion of customer satisfaction ummm, they would not go a miss from speaking to local butchers about produce, produce of clean food but no local values, wipe of marker pens for day out on their folder map, and more security of being a family orientated business on belongings, dust was another fault, I would advice a flat handled, flat cloth folding slide branch in which all services have for hard to reach places under beds, for anyone allergic, I would also add blinds, their security runs in line with Ariel braker in which controls viewing, In my opinion of my stay, they should also have ansilary bins in the bathroom and no over head dumb light over shower, especially when it is not a sealed unit, but other then that and shoe problems, I had a fantastic family stay at Shanklin

Great Place to Stay

We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived and Mark explained everything we needed to know. The room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was superb every morning, eggs cooked to perfection. The breakfast room was clean and it was easy to chat to other guests and get to know them too. We thought parking may be an issue but were able to park on the premises every day and evening during our stay with no problems. We would definitely recommend this B & B and will hopefully stay there again in the future.

Handy for the old town as well as close to beach

We were made very welcome. Because of the limit to space, cars needed to be parked in front of one another and keys left for the owner to move the car if necessary. We fully appreciate the need to do this and could see no alternative. Undoubtedly, the owner is a skilled driver and insured. However, it would have been nice not to have needed to do this. In no way did this take away from our enjoyment.

We had a fabulous long weekend on the island. We brought our car over on the ferry (which we gratefully got a discount on via our hosts) and travelled all around over the 3 days visiting Carisbrooke, the Needles, Quarr Abbey and Osbourne House. We were very happy we chose both Shanklin and The Richmond B&B. Our hosts were friendly and informative and the rooms were immaculate with a fair price. We will definitely return should we come back to the island and would highly recommend it to others.

Great B&B, very friendly, lovely room

An amazing 4 days at the Richmond B&B. Mark Kaz were fantastic, really helpful and genuinely lovely people, if you want to see red squirrels they kmow the places to go. Food was really nice too. Good size room with all you could need (if there was one thing i would have liked was a small fridge in the room, there was plenty of space for one, but this is really being picky) overall a wonderful stay. Well done and thank you.

Warm, welcome stay after a long walk

I stopped in Shanklin along the Isle of Wight coastal path. Those last few kilometres from Ventnor hurt. The owners were lovely, and helped me with some printing I had to do for a job I was starting the following week. I was the only person staying, but they made me feel welcome and the room was super cosy and warm. What else do you need?

Too early for breakfast

Very well situated in Shanklin close to all the shops, pubs and restaurants. A 5 minute walk to the beach.
The room was very spacious with a sitting area with TV. Bathroom was clean but only has a electric shower with not much water pressure.
The major downside was breakfast was only between 8.00- 8.30 and had to be ordered the night before. If I'd known this I would not have booked as when on holiday I don't want to have to get up at 7.30 every morning for breakfast, we felt we had to fit in with the owners requirements.

Great Stay !

I don't normally write these reviews but on this occasion I felt compelled to as I thought that the effort that both Mark and his wife put into the overall standard of this hotel needed to be recognized. I have always been a bit dubious of B&Bs and have tended to stay in hotel chains wherever possible, however on the IOW this is quite difficult so we plumped for the Richmond and I am glad that we did. The cleanliness, amount of space in the room, the welcome, the breakfast were all much better than I have received in most traditional chain hotels (and I have stayed in many with work) so I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any visitors who decide to stay in Shanklin and it has certainly changed my opinion of B&Bs and I will certainly consider staying in another at some point in the future, that is, so long as they are as good as the Richmond :)

Excellent B and B in the heart of Shanklin

You'd be hard pushed to find a better B and B than this. Spotlessly clean, fresh modern rooms with FST and power showers and a delightful, light-filled breakfast room with choice of hot breakfast, coffee, cereal, yoghurt, juice. Mark and Caz were friendly and attentive. Well placed for the village and bus routes.

Lovely place

Myself and my wife stayed over in this hotel (house). Lovely place to be. Its very close to city centre so could find restaurants easily. Drawback is no outside food allowed in the house.
The beach is very close too. Walkable distance. The breakfast was good with few options to chose. Very good hospitality.. Rooms were clean and comfy with room service everyday.
Another drawback was the radiators weren't turned on so rooms were cold.
Otherwise i would highly recommend this place.
